Fujin travel guide and discussion

I've long heard that Fujin is a hidden gem of a small city. I arranged a 2-day short trip, and after visiting in person, I truly feel it was worth the trip! It's not crowded, the scenery is diverse, and it's relaxing and unhurried—perfect for a weekend getaway 📸 ⛰️ Wurguli Mountain You must climb Wurguli Mountain when you come to Fujin! The mountain path isn't too difficult, the mountain is full of green trees, and the air is fresh. The moment you reach the top, your view opens up, with the entire Sanjiang Plain spreading out beneath your feet, and a sense of vastness rushes toward you. Standing on the summit, feeling the breeze, and looking out at the endless horizon, every photo you take captures grand natural scenery—it's stress-relieving and photogenic. 📜 Songhua River Stele Forest A niche cultural spot right next to the Songhua River 🌊 The ancient buildings in the park, paired with the forest of calligraphy stone carvings, create a full atmosphere of ink and culture. Stroll slowly along the river, admiring the calligraphy carvings by famous masters while enjoying the breeze from the Songhua River. There are very few tourists, it's quiet, and you don't have to fight for photo spots—perfect for taking your time to read, take photos, or just zone out. 🎡 Leqi Adventure World A joy-filled stop on the journey 🎠 You can see the landmark Ferris wheel from far away, and it's great for photos. With rich amusement rides like bumper cars and pirate ships, it's suitable whether you're bringing kids or relaxing with friends. The park is clean and tidy, allowing you to play to your heart's content and harvest plenty of happiness. 🍲 Local Fujin Cuisine How can you miss the iron pot stew when visiting the Northeast! The big pot bubbles away, steaming hot, with generous portions of ingredients and rich flavors. Paired with refreshing local side dishes, it's full of authentic local vibes and incredibly satisfying. 🏨 Accommodation | Jinxi Business Hotel I stayed at the Jinxi Business Hotel for the entire trip, and I have to give it a shout-out 👍 The location is great, making it convenient to travel to all the check-in spots. The hotel environment is quiet, the rooms are kept clean, the bedding is comfortable, and the hot water and air conditioning are very stable. The front desk service is warm, check-in and check-out are efficient, and they respond to issues promptly. The room facilities are complete, allowing for a good rest after a day of running around. The price is reasonable, the accommodation experience matches the price point, and staying here is worry-free when visiting Fujin! A 2-day itinerary with mountain views, river views, a cultural stele forest, and a fun amusement park—plus great food and accommodation. No crowds, just a slow-paced experience of the unique charm of this northern small city. I recommend everyone come to Fujin for a visit!

🏨 Accommodation | Jinxi Business Hotel I stayed here for both nights. The main reason for choosing it was the location; it's very convenient for driving to all the attractions. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the city area was quiet at night. It was very relaxing to take a shower and rest after a day of outdoor activities. Honest feedback: The front desk is efficient, there is free parking, and it's road-trip friendly. I recommend booking in advance, as rooms can be scarce during holidays. Overall, it offers great value and is very suitable as a transit accommodation. Day 1 | Fujin Museum → Bielayinzi Mountain | Urban Culture + Mountain Hiking 🚗 Drive time: About 10 minutes from the hotel to the museum. About 35 minutes from the museum to Bielayinzi Mountain. 📍 Fujin Museum Visit in the morning. It's closed on Mondays ⚠️, so make sure not to make a wasted trip. The museum isn't large; you can finish touring in about 1–1.5 hours. The exhibits on the agricultural history of the Sanjiang Plain and the folk customs of the Great Northern Wilderness are very rich, making it a great place to bring children for some educational fun. 💡 Photography & Tips: The temperature inside the exhibition halls is low, so bring a light jacket even in summer. Flash photography is prohibited. Focus on the agricultural and folk customs exhibition area—it's very photogenic. Do not touch the display cases. After finishing the tour at noon, head back to the city for some Northeast Chinese cuisine. 🍽 Lunch | Yinghua Bingdian A local institution with huge portions! The sweet and sour pork is delicious, and the "pig slaughter" stew is authentic. If there are two of you, don't over-order, or you won't be able to finish it. Head to Bielayinzi Mountain in the afternoon. 📍 Bielayinzi Mountain No strenuous hiking is required. The trails are relatively gentle. From the observation deck at the summit, you can see vast fields and windmills at a glance, offering an expansive view. It feels wonderful when the breeze blows. ⚠️ Real-world tips to avoid pitfalls: There are very few kiosks on the mountain!! Be sure to bring your own drinking water. You'll face a double whammy of mosquitoes and UV rays in the forest, so definitely bring mosquito repellent and a sun hat. It's very windy on the mountain; even at noon, the summit is cool, so bring a light jacket. Stick to the official trails and don't wander into the wild woods. It's best to come here between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM when the light is soft—it's perfect for taking epic photos of the plains and windmills. Head down the mountain in the evening and drive back to Jinxi Business Hotel to rest. Day 2 | Wanmu Liangtian Rice Park | Fujin National Wetland Park, see rice fields and the sunset 🚗 Depart from the hotel; it's about 40 minutes to Wanmu Liangtian Rice Park. The drive from the Rice Park to the Wetland Park is 25 minutes. 📍 Wanmu Liangtian Rice Park 🌾 A must-visit in Fujin! You must climb the Jinxiu Harvest Tower to overlook the entire rice paddy art; the land art is truly more stunning in person. The rice grows best from July to September, and the golden autumn atmosphere is at its peak. 💡 Photography & Tips: ✅ Best time to shoot: After 3:00 PM, when the sunlight is soft and the rice fields don't reflect glare. ❌ Do not trample the crops; strictly follow the tour routes. The Harvest Tower observation deck will have queues on weekends. Park your car in designated parking lots. The park has an agricultural experience hall and camping lawns, so you can take your time—allow 2.5–3 hours. 🍽 Grab a quick lunch nearby, then head straight to the Wetland Park in the afternoon. 📍 Fujin National Wetland Park Northern reed marshes, with wooden boardwalks winding through the water. You can often see water birds skimming across the lake surface. You must come here to watch the sunset! ⚠️ Hard-learned advice: The mosquitoes in the wetland are the worst of the entire trip—spray your mosquito repellent generously!! If you have children on the boardwalks by the water, keep a close eye on them and do not climb over the railings. Boat rides and electric carts are extra costs; choose as needed. Do not feed wild birds; protect the ecosystem. The light and shadows on the lake around sunset are stunning—the absolute highlight for photography on this trip. The wind drops sharply by the lake in the evening; remember to add layers after watching the sunset. Return to the city in the evening for a hot meal of Xiajili Iron Pot Stew. The goose stew with corn cakes is delicious, and the broth-soaked cakes are incredibly fragrant. Return to Jinxi Hotel to rest after eating. Day 3 | Leqi Amusement Park | Have fun and enjoy the return trip 🚗 It's a 10-plus minute drive from the hotel to Leqi Amusement Park, which is very convenient. 📍 Leqi Amusement Park 🎡 Keep the last day relaxed and dedicated to fun. There are many ride options; the Ferris wheel offers a panoramic view of Fujin city. There are thrilling rides like the pirate ship and pendulum, as well as many gentle facilities suitable for children. You can easily spend half a day here. ⚠️ Tips: Strictly follow the ride instructions for thrilling attractions; those with high blood pressure or heart conditions should be cautious. If bringing children, accompany them at all times. Some rides may splash water, so you might want to bring a change of clothes. Popular rides will have queues during holidays; keep your belongings safe. 🍽 For lunch, choose Fujiu Xiang Scallion Pancake & Claypot Restaurant. The claypot with braised pork bones and the soft, fluffy scallion pancakes are warm and comforting—the perfect way to end the trip. After a full meal, pack your bags and conclude your three-day trip to Fujin. ✨ My overall thoughts 1. Most of Fujin's attractions are outdoors. You won't be able to do without the "three essentials": sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and a light jacket. The temperature difference between day and night is larger than you might imagine. 2. Self-driving is the best way to get between attractions; public transportation is not very convenient. 3. I stayed at Jinxi Business Hotel for the entire trip. Its central location saved time and effort when traveling to and from various scenic spots. Remember to book your room in advance before you travel.

Took a weekend road trip to Fujin, spending a leisurely short getaway on the black soil of the Sanjiang Plain. There are no crowds here. Two green mountains rising from the flat land, paired with the great river and vast farmlands, offer the unique, healing vibe of a small northern city that surprises you at every turn. ⛰️ [Hiking | Bielayinzi Mountain] Bielayinzi Mountain Forest Park Bielayinzi Mountain is about 35 km from downtown Fujin. Locals also call it West Mountain, as it is part of the Wandashan mountain range. The summit features Jintai, also known as the "First Terrace of the North," a four-story antique-style pavilion. From the observation deck, you can overlook the entire Sanjiang Plain and see wind turbines in the distance. ✅ Travel tips: Free admission with free parking at the base. We recommend heading up at 3:00 PM to avoid the midday sun. The round-trip hike takes about 1.5 hours, and the evening light is perfect for viewing the plains from the summit. ⛰️ [Hiking | Wuerguli Mountain (Wuding Mountain)] Wuerguli Mountain Located east of downtown Fujin, Wuerguli Mountain stands at an altitude of 538.7 meters and is known as Fujin's "East Mountain." The mountain is densely forested and features a bronze statue of Chang Longji at the summit, blending natural scenery with revolutionary history. You can drive up the mountain road to the halfway point. Once at the top, you can gaze out at the winding Songhua River and take in the vast black soil landscape. ✅ Travel tips: Free admission. It's easy to visit on the same day as Bielayinzi Mountain since they are located on the east and west sides of the city, respectively. A car makes the trip much more convenient. 🌊 [Songhua River sunset] Songhua River Stele Forest You must head to the riverside in the evening to catch the sunset. The setting sun paints the river in warm gold, and the gentle breeze makes the water sparkle—it's the most romantic scenery in Fujin. There's no need to hunt for "internet-famous" photo spots; anywhere along the river is picture-perfect. 🍲 [Local food | Shancheng Layun hot pot] Shancheng Layun (Yujing Dongfang Branch) After hiking, find a hot pot restaurant to refuel. Shancheng Layun Hot Pot offers fresh ingredients, with their fresh-cut meat being a standout. The soup base is rich and flavorful. It costs about CNY 60 per person. Enjoying a hot meal after a hike is the perfect way to wash away your fatigue. 🏨 [Accommodation experience | Jinxi Business Hotel] Fujin Jinxi Business Hotel End your day by checking into the Jinxi Business Hotel. The rooms are spacious, the bedding is comfortable, and the private bathrooms are clean and tidy. The hotel is well-equipped, offers convenient parking at the entrance, and is located not far from the city center, making it a great place to rest after a long day of travel. When traveling in Fujin, there's no need to rush. Climb the two mountains, watch the sunset over the great river, stroll through the vast farmlands, enjoy a hot meal, and experience a relaxed, slow-paced trip on the Sanjiang Plain. The mountain and river breezes are gentle, and every meal is healing. 📍 Location: Fujin, Jiamusi

Fujin National Wetland Park: A marshland in the heart of the Sanjiang Plain chosen by waterbirds Heading southwest from downtown Fujin, the road is flanked by vast, flat farmland and rows of poplar trees. After about a 40-minute drive, as the farmland gradually gives way to reeds and water, an expansive marshland unfolds on the horizon—you have arrived at Fujin National Wetland Park. Located in the heart of the Sanjiang Plain, it covers a total area of 2,200 hectares and serves as a vital stopover on the migratory route for birds in Northeast Asia. First, step into the reed marshes Upon entering, you are greeted by dense reeds. They tower over your head, stretching from the roadside to the water's edge. When the wind blows, they ripple like green waves, and a rustling sound comes from all directions. Follow the wooden boardwalk that stretches for over 2 kilometers into the park. The boardwalk is built above the water, flanked by cattails, bulrushes, and water lilies, with plant colors transitioning from light green to dark green. The boardwalk is narrow but stable, with 4 leisure pavilions along the way where you can rest. The pavilions are small, but they are perfectly situated by the water, where you can look down and see schools of fish swimming under the arched bridges. Waterbirds are the masters here Over 170 species of birds have been recorded in the Fujin Wetland. Among them, red-crowned cranes, Oriental storks, and hooded cranes are national first-class protected animals, while white-naped cranes, whooper swans, and Eurasian spoonbills are second-class protected animals. Summer is the most active time for waterfowl. Thousands of waterbirds gather deep in the wetland, some pacing on the shallows, others flying low over the water. Standing on the viewing platform and looking into the distance, reeds and water alternate. As the flocks take flight and land, their wings flash like tiny white dots in the sunlight. If you are lucky, you can see white-naped cranes gliding over the reed beds, their wings flapping slowly with graceful movements. Deep in the wetland, there is a bird-watching tower. Once you climb up, the view opens up instantly. The entire marshland lies beneath your feet, with winding waterways weaving through the sea of reeds like ribbons, and the water's reflection peeking through the gaps in the plants. In the distance, fields and villages merge into a blurred line at the horizon, with dense green nearby and faint grayish-blue in the distance. The lotus pond and those quiet corners The lotus pond in the scenic area is in full bloom during the summer. Lotus leaves crowd the water surface, and pink and white flowers peek out from between the leaves—some fully open, others still tight buds. The wooden boardwalk by the pond winds through the lotus leaves. Walking along it, the fresh scent of lotus flowers mixes with the water vapor. When the wind blows, the lotus leaves sway gently, and water droplets roll across their surfaces. There is also a water lily viewing area nearby. Water lily flowers are smaller than lotus flowers, with lighter colors, spreading out close to the water surface and staying quietly in their own corners. Colors of the four seasons The four seasons in Fujin Wetland are very distinct. In spring, around April and May, migratory birds return from the south. Hundreds of thousands of waterfowl stop here to molt. The shallows are densely packed with egrets, wild ducks, and sandpipers, and the sound of flapping wings continues from morning till night. In summer, the reeds and lotus leaves are at their most lush, a deep, rich green, and waterbirds build nests and breed deep in the reed beds. In autumn, the leaves of the reeds and cattails turn yellow, and the entire reed marsh is dyed golden. Climbing the bird-watching tower to look down, the winding waterways weave through the golden sea of reeds, and as the light slants, the reflections on the water change layer by layer. In winter, when the snow falls, the lake freezes over, the reeds are wrapped in frost, and the entire wetland is so quiet that only the sound of the wind passing through the reed stalks remains. Practical information The wetland park is located southwest of downtown Fujin, about a 40-minute drive from the city center. There is a parking lot at the entrance of the scenic area. Opening hours are approximately 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The boardwalk is well-paved and easy to walk on, so just wear comfortable shoes. There are more mosquitoes in the wetland than elsewhere, so bring mosquito repellent if you visit in summer. It is windy on the boardwalk, so even in midsummer, it can be cool in the morning and evening; bringing a light jacket is a safe bet. The bird-watching tower is the place to see the panoramic view and photograph the reed marshes. In autumn, the best light is after 3:00 PM or 4:00 PM. When I stepped off the boardwalk, the sky was already dim. Looking back at the marshland covered by reeds and water, a few waterbirds flew over the water, their wings tracing shallow marks in the twilight. The reed marsh was still swaying in the wind, unhurried and steady. This wetland has been lying here for a long time, with flocks of birds coming and going year after year.

National Day holiday trip to Jiamusi (Fuyuan, Tongjiang, Fujin) || Visit date: October 2024 (National Day holiday) 1️⃣ Route: We took this route during the 2024 National Day holiday. We flew from Beijing to Fuyuan Airport, then chartered a car to tour Fuyuan, Tongjiang, and Fujin, and finally returned to Beijing from Jiamusi Airport. The total trip was 5 days and 4 nights. We actually added Raohe County in Shuangyashan between Fuyuan and Tongjiang, but we only visited Dadingzi Mountain. Personally, I feel that adding just this one attraction made the driving much longer, which was too tiring and not really worth it. If you spend all your time in these few places, it won't feel rushed, and the travel will be more relaxed. Unless you plan to spend a few more days in Shuangyashan, I wouldn't recommend adding this detour. 2️⃣ Fuyuan attractions: These are the places that left the deepest impression on me in Fuyuan, and they are quite classic attractions. Dongji Square (Photos 1–2), the place where the mainland of our country welcomes the sunrise earliest. We got up and left after 3:00 AM that day, and the sunrise was truly beautiful. The Fish Museum (Photos 3–4) is in the city center and was quite a pleasant surprise. You can see sturgeon, kaluga, and other fish, as well as large specimens. There is also a science and technology museum next to it where you can take children to play. Riverside Park (Photo 5), next to the Fish Museum, is beautiful for watching the sunset. Heixiazi Island, a China-Russia border island, requires taking a sightseeing bus inside. There is the original Russian outpost (Photo 6) and a bear park (Photo 7). Photo 8 is a spot we stopped at randomly on the road from Fuyuan to another place, called Daomeng Wusu Agricultural Park, where you can see rice paddy art. Photo 9 was taken from the car, and the scenery was really amazing. 3️⃣ Tongjiang attractions: Photo 10 is a sightseeing hotel next to the Starting Point Square, where you can pay to go to the observation deck to watch the sunset over the Sanjiang Confluence. Photo 11 is the Hezhe Ethnic Culture Village, where you can watch performances. Photo 12 is the Lahasusu Customs Site Museum, Photos 13–14 are the Hezhe Museum, Photo 15 is the Tongjiang Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall, and Photo 16 is the Russian Style Park. 4️⃣ Fujin attractions: We actually only visited the National Wetland Park in Fujin, which is shown in Photos 17–18. There is also a Rice Park, but since we had been to a similar one in Fuyuan, we skipped it due to time constraints. If you don't include the day in Shuangyashan, you can visit more attractions. 5️⃣ Food: I won't post photos, but it mainly consisted of fish soup noodles, iron pot stew, and barbecue. It was standard and decent, but nothing that particularly amazed us. 6️⃣ Tips: The attractions are very scattered, so I recommend chartering a car or driving yourself. You must wear plenty of clothes to watch the sunrise in Fuyuan. It's already quite cool there during the National Day holiday, and it's really cold in the morning. I even had to borrow a military-style overcoat later.

I'm going to give you the real scoop! This severely underrated border city in Northeast China is truly amazing for sightseeing and eating! I've visited 6 times, and today I'm sharing all the pitfalls I've avoided and the gems I've found. Just follow this guide and you'll have a great time✅ 📍 Location Jiamusi is in the northeast of Heilongjiang Province, at the confluence of the Songhua, Heilongjiang, and Wusuli rivers, facing Russia across the river. Around National Day is the perfect time to see the "Five-Flower Mountain" (colorful autumn foliage) at its most spectacular. From late September to early October, the forest looks like an overturned palette, with red, yellow, and green intertwined—autumn is everywhere you look. 🚗 Transportation You can take a high-speed train directly to Jiamusi Station. Make sure you don't book tickets to Jiamusi West Station! It's far from the city center, and your taxi fare will be double. If you're transferring from Harbin, the high-speed train takes about 2.5 hours. Taxis within the city are very cheap; most trips to attractions cost around 10 yuan, offering great value. 🥢 Food Recommendations (Highly Recommended) 🌞 Breakfast: Sanxiao Jianbing Guozi. Freshly made thin crepes wrapped around crispy fried dough, brushed with a secret sauce. One bite and it's soft on the outside, crispy on the inside, with a savory explosion of flavor—this carb fix is exactly what you need to start your day. 🍜 Jiamusi Mixed Noodles. Soul food! The hand-pulled noodles are chewy and springy, served with a sweet and spicy sauce, shredded cucumber, and crushed peanuts. Once mixed, every noodle is coated in sauce, hitting all the right notes: sweet, sour, spicy, salty, and savory. I recommend Sanjiemei Cold Noodle Restaurant and Xingxing Cold Noodle Restaurant—both are decades-old local institutions where you can get a huge bowl for CNY 15 and leave stuffed. 🥩 Guobaorou (Sweet and Sour Pork). Jiamusi's Guobaorou is absolutely amazing! Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with the perfect sweet and sour sauce ratio—not too sweet or too sour. It crunches when you bite into it while hot. Laorenyi Restaurant is a long-standing local favorite. 🍢 Northeast BBQ. If you want the best BBQ in China, look to the Northeast, and for the best in the Northeast, look to Jiamusi. Try the fatty/lean meat skewers, grilled solid eggs, vegetable rolls, and grilled eggplant, paired with an ice-cold "Big Pear" soda. You can eat your fill for about CNY 40 per person. 🌙 Night Market Must-Visit: Youfang Hutong Night Market has a history of over a hundred years. Grilled cold noodles with egg and sausage are a staple, sizzling teppanyaki squid is a must, and the meat-stuffed flatbreads and shuan du (boiled tripe) are the ultimate feast for carb lovers. 🏠 Accommodation Guide Comfort: Wanda Jinhua Hotel is right next to Wanda Plaza, making dining and shopping convenient. The rooms have good soundproofing, and the breakfast selection is rich. Atour Hotel is also well-located, with a supermarket and snack street right across the street. It's a CNY 10 taxi ride to Riverside Park and Youfang Hutong. Economy: Chain hotels in the city center cost about CNY 150–200 per night, offering convenient access to dining and transport. If you want to save money, just look for budget chain hotels; their prices are transparent, and they won't overcharge you. ⚠️ Tips to avoid pitfalls: Don't just look for river-view rooms; it can be noisy by the river at night. Choosing a homestay in an old residential area or a chain hotel in a quieter location is a safer bet. 🗺️ Itinerary Day 1 City Stroll: In the morning, visit the Jiamusi Museum to see the Hezhe ethnic fishing and hunting culture exhibition area. It's free, but bring your ID card (closed on Mondays). In the afternoon, take a walk in Riverside Park and enjoy the river breeze; the Flood Control Memorial Tower is an iconic photo spot. In the evening, go to Xilin Road Night Market or Youfang Hutong for food. Day 2 Autumn Sightseeing: Drive or charter a car to the Fujin Ten-Thousand-Mu Rice Park. Climb the 39-meter sightseeing tower to overlook the 100,000 square meters of 3D colorful rice paddy art. In autumn, the rolling waves of rice are spectacular. In the afternoon, return to the city and head to Sifeng Mountain Scenic Area. In autumn, the red maples cover the mountains, and you can climb up to get a panoramic view of Jiamusi. Day 3 The Eastern Frontier (Optional): If you have 4 days, I highly recommend going to Fuyuan! Watch the first sunrise of the country on Heixiazi Island, take a photo at the "Eastern Frontier of China" monument at Dongji Square, and then head to Jiejinkou Hezhe Ethnic Township for a full-fish feast. The raw fish and "Talaha" (traditional Hezhe fish dish) are incredibly fresh. It takes about 2 hours by high-speed train from Jiamusi to Fuyuan, and renting a car or chartering one locally is more flexible. 📸 Great Photo Spots Sunset by the Songhua River: Arrive at the riverside 1 hour before sunset. The sunset glow reflecting on the water is a perfect match, and every shot is a masterpiece. Fujin Ten-Thousand-Mu Rice Fields: The best viewing period is from late September to early October. Wearing white or red clothes makes for better photos. Between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM, the sunset glow spills over the rice waves, creating a healing, Japanese-style aesthetic. The G102 National Highway along the route from Jiamusi to Huachuan is an excellent spot for photos. Daliangzihe National Forest Park: The "Five-Flower Mountain" scenery is most concentrated here. Walking along the forest trails, you'll be surrounded by colorful foliage—it looks great from any angle. Dale National Forest Park: Over 780 mu of purple verbena flower fields. This year, a 350-meter fog system has been added, creating a fairyland atmosphere with fine mist. Sanjiangkou Eco-Tourism Area: The clear and murky waters meet at the confluence of the two rivers. Standing on the viewing platform to take silhouettes is very atmospheric. It's recommended to go after 3:00 PM when the light is softer. 🚫 Tips to Avoid Pitfalls 1️⃣ Don't get the stations mixed up: Jiamusi Station is the city station; Jiamusi West Station is far from the city, and taxi fares will double. 2️⃣ Don't forget mosquito repellent: The small black flies in the wetlands and by the river are fierce. Remember to spray repellent before getting out of the car, and don't run into the grass wearing skirts or shorts. 3️⃣ Say no to cheap roadside tours: Ignore those "low-price wetland day tour" signs on the street. Most are just shopping tours in disguise. It's more reliable to arrange things yourself through official channels. 4️⃣ Be cautious with chartered cars: Be careful of the men at the station shouting "chartered car to Fuyuan." I've heard of them raising prices halfway through the trip. Only book through official channels to have proof of your booking. 5️⃣ Bring your border documents: You need to apply for a border pass in advance to visit Heixiazi Island. Always carry your ID card, and don't cross the border to take photos within the scenic area. 6️⃣ Book in advance for National Day travel: Accommodation is tight during holidays, so it's best to book your hotel in advance. Traveling on off-peak weekdays means fewer crowds, better scenery, and you can even negotiate prices. 💬 Final Word Jiamusi is truly an underrated treasure of a city. The cost of living is more affordable than in Harbin, it's less crowded, and the "Five-Flower Mountain" in autumn is unbelievably beautiful. If you don't want to go to crowded tourist hotspots during the National Day holiday, this is the place to be!

September Escape the Crowds: A Slow and Relaxing Trip to Fujin | 2 Days 1 Night Autumn Scenery Guide In September, Fujin is just beginning to feel the autumn colors. The winds of the Sanjiang Plain carry the fragrance of rice blossoms, and thousands of acres of rice paddies ripple with golden waves. Migratory birds are gradually migrating south through the wetlands. There are no crowds like in popular border cities, only the vast and relaxed black soil and the lively atmosphere of a small northeastern town. As the "Grain Capital of the North," this place hides the most pristine autumn scenery of the plains, perfect for those who want to avoid the crowds and leisurely stroll through the wetlands and rice paddies. Day 1: Wetland Walk, Chasing Migratory Birds In the morning, head straight to Fujin National Wetland Park, an important stopover for migratory birds in Northeast Asia. September is the peak birdwatching season. Take the park's electric cart deep into the reed beds, strolling slowly along the wooden boardwalk. The reeds on both banks are beginning to turn golden, and egrets and wild ducks occasionally glide across the water. The wind is filled with the crisp scent of grass and water vapor. Be sure to take a wooden boat ride, slowly gliding through the reed maze. The oars cut through the ripples, and in the distance, the water and sky merge into one. Occasionally, a flock of waterbirds will startle and take flight, creating a picturesque scene of a tranquil, waterside plain. Climbing the birdwatching tower offers the best panoramic view; the lake resembles shattered silver embedded in the yellow-green reeds. If you're lucky, you might even spot a flock of white-naped cranes resting there. For lunch, enjoy a pot of stewed river fish at a farmhouse near the scenic area. Fresh Songhua River fish is served with potato noodles, and cornbread is piled around the edge of the pot. The cornbread, soaked in fish broth, is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside—a truly authentic Northeastern flavor. In the afternoon, stroll along the Songhua River Stele Forest. Dozens of calligraphic stone carvings are scattered along the riverbank. Quiet and less crowded, walk along the riverbank, and enjoy the breeze rustling through the poplar trees—perfect for relaxing and daydreaming. In the evening, return to the city and explore the Central Street night market. Try the grilled cold noodles, old-fashioned fried skewers, and ice cream—the vibrant atmosphere is truly captivating. Day 2: Waves of Rice in the Wind, Experiencing the Harvest of the Grain Capital of Northern China On the second day, we drove to the outskirts of the city to the 10,000-mu (approximately 667 hectares) rice paddy park. In September, the rice ears were heavy with ripeness, and the entire field stretched out as a golden sea of varying shades—the most atmospheric time of year. Climbing the observation tower, we were greeted by four giant rice paddy paintings that incorporated local elements such as sturgeon, white-naped cranes, and a steam train. The wind blew the rice into waves, creating a breathtaking scene more stunning than any oil painting. Walking along the field paths, we ventured into the sea of rice, the golden ears brushing against our clothes, the air filled with the sweet fragrance of rice—perfect for close-up photos. At noon, we ate at a local farmhouse restaurant in a nearby village. We ordered the signature pork stew and handmade cold noodles; the ingredients were all locally grown, and the portions were generous and delicious. In the afternoon, you can take a short hike in Wudingshan Forest Park. The mountain path is gentle and easy to walk, and the forest is just beginning to show signs of autumn, with the fallen leaves rustling underfoot. From the summit, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Songhua River winding through the plains, offering an extremely expansive vista. After descending the mountain, return at a relaxed pace. Practical Tips · Transportation: From out of town, you can fly to Jiamusi East Suburb Airport and then take a 1-hour direct bus. If driving, the Harbin-Tongjiang Expressway has smooth traffic; taxis in the city generally cost less than 10 yuan. For visiting the wetlands and rice paddy parks, it's recommended to drive yourself or hire a car. · Accommodation: For value, choose a budget hotel near Central Street in the city center; it's convenient for visiting the night market and dining. If you prefer a quieter environment, choose a riverside hotel with river views right outside your window. · Clothing: September has a large temperature difference between day and night, and it can be cooler in the wetlands and along the river. Remember to bring a light windproof jacket, and comfortable sneakers are more comfortable for walking on the boardwalks. · Note: Mosquitoes are still present in the wetlands, so bring mosquito repellent. When taking photos in the rice paddies, walk along the paths and avoid stepping on the rice stalks. A leisurely trip can be had for around 700 RMB per person. With fewer crowds and expansive scenery, it offers a truly healing experience of autumn on the plains, making it a hidden gem for a September getaway in Northeast China. September Off-Peak Getaway | Fujin 2-Day 1-Night Plains Autumn Scenery Guide In September, Fujin is just beginning to blush with autumn colors. The winds of the Sanjiang Plain carry the fragrance of rice blossoms, and thousands of acres of rice paddies ripple with golden waves. Migratory birds are gradually migrating south from the wetlands. Without the crowds of popular border towns, there is only the vastness and relaxation of the black soil and the lively atmosphere of a small northeastern town. As the "Grain Capital of the North," it hides the most pristine autumn scenery on the plains, perfect for those who want to avoid the crowds and slowly explore the wetlands and rice paddies. Day 1: Wetland Trekking, Chasing Migratory Birds In the morning, we headed straight to Fujin National Wetland Park, an important stopover for migratory birds in Northeast Asia. September is the peak birdwatching season. We took a shuttle bus deep into the reed marshes, strolling slowly along the wooden boardwalk. The reeds on both banks were beginning to turn golden, and egrets and wild ducks occasionally glided across the water. The air was filled with the crisp scent of grass and water vapor. A must-do is taking a wooden boat ride, slowly gliding through the reed maze. The oars cut through the ripples, and in the distance, the water and sky merged into one. Occasionally, a flock of waterbirds would be startled and take flight, creating a picturesque scene of a tranquil plain. Climbing the birdwatching tower offers the best panoramic view; the lake resembles shattered silver embedded in the yellow-green reeds. With luck, you might even spot a flock of white-naped cranes resting. At noon, we ate stewed river fish in an iron pot at a farmhouse near the scenic area. The fresh Songhua River fish was served with potato noodles, and cornbread was stuck around the edge of the pot. Soaked in fish broth, the cornbread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside – a truly authentic Northeastern flavor. In the afternoon, we strolled along the Songhua River Stele Forest. Dozens of calligraphic stone carvings were scattered along the riverbank, creating a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Walking along the riverbank, the river breeze rustling through the poplar trees was perfect for relaxing and daydreaming. In the evening, we returned to the city and explored the Central Street night market, trying grilled cold noodles, old-fashioned fried skewers, and ice cream – a truly vibrant and lively experience. Day 2: Waves of Rice Waves in the Wind, Experiencing the Harvest of the Northern Grain Capital The next day, we drove to the outskirts of the city to visit the 10,000-mu Rice Paddy Park. In September, the rice ears were heavy, and the entire field stretched out like a golden sea of varying shades – the most atmospheric time of year. Climbing the observation tower, four giant rice paddy paintings unfold across the land, incorporating local elements such as sturgeon, white-naped cranes, and a steam train. The wind ripples through the rice paddies, creating waves that are more breathtaking than any oil painting. Walking along the paths into the sea of rice, the golden ears of grain brush against your clothes, and the air is filled with the sweet fragrance of rice—perfect for close-up photos with a wonderful atmosphere. For lunch, eat at a local farmhouse restaurant in a nearby village. Must-try dishes include pork stew and handmade cold noodles. All ingredients are locally sourced, and the portions are generous and delicious. In the afternoon, you can take a short hike in Wudingshan Forest Park. The mountain paths are gentle and easy to walk on. The forest is just beginning to show signs of autumn, and the fallen leaves rustle underfoot. From the summit, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Songhua River winding through the plains—a truly expansive vista. After descending the mountain, return at a relaxed pace. Practical Tips · Transportation: From out of town, fly to Jiamusi East Suburb Airport and then take a 1-hour direct bus; for those driving, the Harbin-Tongjiang Expressway offers smooth traffic, and taxis within the city generally cost less than 10 yuan. For visiting the wetlands and rice paddy parks, self-driving or hiring a car is recommended. · Accommodation: For value, choose a budget hotel near Central Street in the city center, convenient for exploring the night market and dining; for a quieter experience, choose a riverside hotel along the Songhua River with river views right outside your window. · Clothing: September has significant temperature differences between day and night, and it's cooler in the wetlands and along the river. Remember to bring a light windproof jacket and comfortable sneakers for walking on the boardwalks. · Note: There are still mosquitoes in the wetlands, so bring mosquito repellent; when taking photos in the rice paddies, walk along the paths and avoid stepping on the rice plants. A leisurely trip like this can be had for around 700 yuan per person. With fewer crowds and expansive scenery, it offers a truly healing autumn experience on the plains, making it a hidden gem for a less-traveled trip to Northeast China in September.

In September, Jiamusi has just shed the summer heat. The rice paddies of the Sanjiang Plain are immersed in a golden ocean, and the reed marshes along the Heilongjiang River sway in the wind. Without the summer crowds or the peak autumn season of the National Day holiday, it offers great value for dining, accommodation, and activities. This route avoids conventional tourist spots like Heixiazi Island and Daliangzi River, instead taking you through old alleys, rice seas, and fishing villages hidden by locals. Tested and verified, no tourist traps. Day 1 Old Town Alleys | Local Life and Autumn Vibes on the Mountainside Spend the morning strolling through Xilin Old Street, the core of the old town in Xiangyang District, which is free to enter. Don't just stick to the main road; turn into the side alleys where 1980s state-run grocery stores, old photo studios, and watch repair shops still retain their original look. Faded slogans on the walls are full of nostalgia. In September, the maple trees along the street start to turn yellow, and elderly residents sit at their doorways drying cabbage and radishes. It's full of local charm, and you won't run into many tourists even after walking for half a day. For lunch, head to Laodaowai Shaguoju, a long-standing restaurant on Xilin Road that has been open for over 20 years. Their signature sauerkraut and pork belly casserole features tangy, appetizing sauerkraut and pork belly that is rich but not greasy. The broth is thick and flavorful. Pair it with a piece of tender braised pork and rice for a warm meal at about CNY 30 per person. Locals share tables during peak hours, so go before 11:00 AM to avoid waiting. In the afternoon, visit Sifengshan Scenic Area, a 20-minute taxi ride from the city center; admission is CNY 20. Don't just take photos by the lake; walk half the loop along the lakeside trail. You'll pass through wetlands and cross the Rainbow Bridge, with the autumn colors slowly spreading across the distant Wandashan Mountains and the large wind turbines on the mountaintop turning slowly. The light is softest at 3:00 PM in September. Standing on the observation deck overlooking the lake and mountains, you'll see where locals come on weekends to hike and get some fresh air—it's much more comfortable than crowding into popular tourist spots. For dinner, go to Xingxing BBQ, a popular long-standing restaurant near the university. The shuan du (boiled tripe) is CNY 2 per skewer, thick and flavorful. The grilled beef skewers are coated in dry spices and sizzle with aroma. Add a bing jia chuan (flatbread sandwich with skewers)—the crust is crispy and packed with meaty flavor. You can eat until you're stuffed for about CNY 50 per person. Day 2 Rice Seas and Reed Marshes | A Harvest Painting of the Sanjiang Plain In the morning, drive for 1 hour to the Fujin Ten-Thousand-Mu Rice Park; admission to the sightseeing tower is CNY 30. Don't just take photos at the base of the tower; climb the 39m tower for a bird's-eye view. 40,000 mu of golden rice fields stretch to the horizon, with giant rice paddy art clearly visible. As the wind blows, the rice waves roll, full of the harvest spirit of the Great Northern Wilderness. In early September, the rice has just turned yellow, and tourists haven't flooded in yet. You can see harvesters working in the fields—it's a real agricultural scene. For lunch in downtown Fujin, eat at Laodifang Tieguodun (Iron Pot Stew). Enjoy freshly caught Songhua River carp with hazel mushrooms and corn cakes stuck to the side of the pot. The cakes soak up the broth and are crispy and flavorful. You can eat until you're full for about CNY 45 per person, and all ingredients are locally sourced. In the afternoon, visit the Fujin National Wetland Park; admission is CNY 40, including the boat ticket. Don't just walk the short boardwalk at the entrance; be sure to take a boat deep into the reed marshes. In September, the reeds start to turn golden. From time to time, red-crowned cranes and egrets skim across the water, and it's so quiet that only the sound of the punting pole and bird calls remain. The bird-watching tower deep in the wetland offers an excellent view. Wait for the sunset, when the golden light spreads across the water—it's incredibly healing. Stay in downtown Fujin for the night. A standard room in a chain hotel is around CNY 110. There are restaurants right downstairs, offering great value. Day 3 Hezhe Fishing Village | An Ancient Tribe by the Border River In the morning, drive 1.5 hours to the Jiejinkou Hezhe Ethnic Culture Village; the half-price ticket in September is CNY 35. Don't rush to the performance; first, visit the Hezhe Folk Museum. The fish-skin clothing, fish-skin paintings, and birch-bark boats are authentic historical artifacts, and the guide will tell you about the fishing and hunting history of the Hezhe people. There is Yimakan storytelling at 10:00 AM every day. The ancient tone is full of stories, and it's worth stopping to listen for a while. For lunch in the village, eat at the Hezhe Renjia Fish Restaurant. The "sha sheng yu" (raw fish salad) is crispy and refreshing, and the "talaha" (grilled fish) is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Pair it with a bowl of fish roe and millet porridge to cleanse the palate. It's a comfortable meal for about CNY 60 per person, all made with fresh river fish caught from the Heilongjiang River. In the afternoon, take a stroll along the Jiejinkou river embankment, a free, pristine section of the river. Don't go to the Sanjiangkou Scenic Area to crowd with others. Walking along the embankment, the Heilongjiang River flows slowly, and the forests of Russia on the opposite bank are clearly visible. Old fishing boats are moored by the river, and fishermen are mending nets and drying fish on the shore, full of the local life of a border fishing village. Head back after 2:00 PM, and you'll be back in the city by 4:00 PM. Travel Tips · Clothing: In September, daytime temperatures are around 19°C, and nighttime temperatures are around 7°C. A thin trench coat and long-sleeved T-shirt are essential, as it is windy by the river and in the mountains. · Transportation: Attractions are scattered, so self-driving or chartering a car is recommended. It's more convenient than taking a bus and costs CNY 260 per day. Attractions in the city can be reached by taxi. · Avoid Pitfalls: Drones are prohibited in border areas. There are many mosquitoes in the wetlands, so bring mosquito repellent. Do not step on the ridges when taking photos in the rice fields. · Accommodation: Staying in Xiangyang District is most convenient in the city, close to old streets and food. Staying in downtown Fujin offers great value. You can fully explore the area for around CNY 1,000 per person. The beauty of Jiamusi has never been in the popular tourist spots, but in the local life of the old streets, the waves of the rice seas, and the fishing songs of the Hezhe people. Come in September when it's less crowded and quiet, and take your time to savor the autumn vibes of this border city by the three rivers.

In September, Tongjiang enters early autumn. The summer heat has faded, the river breeze is cool, and the rice paddies are turning gold. With far fewer tourists than in the summer, it is the perfect time to explore the border, see the confluence of the two rivers, and taste fresh fish. This border town, located where the Heilongjiang and Songhua rivers meet, lacks the crowds of popular tourist spots but offers the vastness of the border river and the simple charm of the Hezhen ethnic group—perfect for those looking to slow down and unwind. Day 1: The Confluence of Three Rivers, Chasing a Border Sunset In the morning, head to the Sanjiangkou Ecotourism Area, Tongjiang's most iconic landmark, which is free to enter. Stand on the observation deck to watch the Heilongjiang and Songhua rivers converge. The northern river is black and the southern one is yellow; the two distinct water lines flow side-by-side for dozens of miles without mixing, a natural wonder often called the "Yin-Yang Hot Pot." The zero-kilometer monument of the Tong-San Highway is located within the scenic area. The monument is inscribed with, "The rivers meet here, the road begins here, and the sea connects here." From here, you can drive all the way south to Sanya, which is quite significant. For lunch, you can have Demoli stewed fish at a nearby fish restaurant. The tofu and vermicelli soak up the fish broth, making it especially delicious when paired with rice. In the afternoon, stop by the Sanjiangkou Rice Paddy Park. In September, the rice is just turning yellow, and the wind makes it look like golden waves. There are also giant rice paddy paintings in the fields, which are great for photos. Next, head to the Sanjiangkou National Wetland Park. The wooden boardwalk winds through the reed marshes, making for a very comfortable walk in the crisp autumn air, where you might occasionally spot water birds skimming the surface. Return to the city in the evening and walk to the Russian-style Garden. The colorful little Russian houses have an exotic feel, and the Matryoshka Square and musical fountain are perfect for casual photos. For dinner in the city, try the sturgeon hot pot—we recommend the "Huangxiong Yushan" health pot. The fish is tender and not fishy, and the broth gets richer the longer it boils, making it a very warming meal for autumn. Day 2: Exploring Jiejinkou, the Fishing and Hunting Life of the Hezhen People On the second day, drive 40 minutes to the Jiejinkou Hezhen Ethnic Township, the core area for experiencing Hezhen culture. First, visit the Hezhen Ethnic Culture Village, where fish-skin clothing, birch-bark boats, and traditional fishing and hunting tools are on display. There are Hezhen song and dance performances and Yimakan storytelling at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM daily, with a singing style that feels ancient and ceremonial. If you enjoy crafts, you can try making fish-skin paintings, following a master to make small pendants out of chum salmon skin for about 50 yuan per person. In the afternoon, hike the Beishan Scenic Area. The 260-meter glass skywalk hangs over the cliffs by the Heilongjiang River. Beneath your feet is the border river, and across from it are the mountains and forests of Russia. The breeze blowing from the river is incredibly healing. There is also a glass slide and a Ferris wheel on the mountain if you are feeling brave. After coming down the mountain, find a fish restaurant in the village and be sure to try the Hezhen specialties: raw fish (sha sheng yu) and talaha. The raw fish is served with wild chive flowers, and the grilled fish is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside—a taste of fishing and hunting traditions passed down for thousands of years. Travel Tips · Transportation: Travelers from out of town can fly to Jiansanjiang Wetland Airport and then take a bus. If driving, the G331 National Highway offers beautiful border river scenery along the way. Within the city, taxis to attractions are generally under 10 yuan. For trips to Jiejinkou, it is recommended to charter a car or drive yourself. · Accommodation: For the best views, stay at a Russian-style river-view homestay within the Sanjiangkou scenic area, where you can see the river right from your window. For better value, choose a 7 Days Inn or Xinju Hotel in the city, which are within walking distance of major shopping districts. · Clothing: The river breeze is strong in September and it gets cool in the morning and evening, so be sure to bring a windbreaker. Wear comfortable sneakers as there is a lot of walking. · Note: Do not cross the border in border areas, follow scenic area regulations, and respect the customs of ethnic minorities. You can have a very comfortable trip for about 800 yuan per person by taking it slow. With fewer crowds, quiet scenery, river breezes, and fresh fish, this is a rare, hidden treasure on the Northeast border line in September.

The hotel is in a prime location, making it very convenient to reach major attractions and restaurants without wasting time on the road. The decor is simple and fresh, and the public areas are clean and bright. The rooms are spacious, with soft, clean bedding, complete bathroom facilities, and a stable supply of hot water. After a long day of exploring, you can return to your room to shed your fatigue and rest peacefully. The staff is attentive and thoughtful, and the overall value is excellent. Whether you're traveling solo or with friends, this is a reliable accommodation choice for your visit to Fujin. 🌾Take in the vast waves of rice, enjoy the evening breeze in the wetlands, savor the flavors of daily life, and find a comfortable place to rest. Fujin, this little city hidden in the Sanjiang Plain, is worth experiencing for yourself.

Jiamusi is best enjoyed at a slow pace, so there is no need to pack your itinerary too full. The city is connected to the river and wetlands, offering both expansive natural scenery and the quiet atmosphere of life in the Northeast. If it is your first time, we recommend setting aside about 3 days, following a city, riverbank, and wetland structure. Spend the first day getting familiar with the city's rhythm. You can start with a walk along the river to see the skyline, the riverbank scenery, and the daily life of the locals. Save the evening for the riverside; the softer light is perfect for photography, and you can really feel the relaxed, unhurried character of Jiamusi. For the second day, plan a visit to Sanjiangkou or the surrounding river landscapes, focusing on the confluence of the rivers, the reed islands, and the expansive views. This is not a place for a quick photo op; we suggest taking your time to enjoy the view, feel the breeze, and wait for the right light. Sunny days reveal the layers of the water, while cloudy days offer a more vast and desolate beauty. If you enjoy nature and birdwatching, consider adding wetland landscapes like Heixiazi Island or Fujin National Wetland Park to your itinerary. The wooden boardwalks, shallow waters, reeds, and migratory birds are the highlights. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes, bringing binoculars or a telephoto lens, and staying quiet to keep a respectful distance from the wildlife. The seasonal differences are quite distinct: spring and summer are great for seeing the fresh greenery of the wetlands and water birds; autumn offers more layered colors in the reeds and trees; and winter is perfect for experiencing the icy riverbanks and the crisp, cold sky of the Northeast. If traveling in winter, prioritize staying warm and be mindful of your phone and camera battery life in the cold. For other seasons, pack wind protection and sun protection. For meals, prioritize restaurants frequented by locals to try Jiamusi cold noodles, guobaorou, shazhucai, Northeast-style barbecue, and niandoubao. To save money, focus on public transportation, walkable riverbanks, and concentrated sightseeing to avoid backtracking between attractions. We suggest an overall rhythm of "nature in the morning, city in the afternoon, and hot food in the evening," leaving a little room for weather changes and spontaneous discoveries.

If you want a road trip route in Northeast China with a "harvest vibe" in September, the Jiamusi—Fujin—Fuyuan route is perfect: rice paddies, wetlands, cranberries, and the sunrise over the border river are all on the same road heading east. It's better suited for two or three friends to drive slowly, rather than cramming every spot into one day. 🌾 Set the pace to 3 days. After arriving in Jiamusi, pick up your rental car and head east along the Sanjiang Plain; Fujin is for seeing rice paddies and wetlands, while Fuyuan is for cranberries, the riverside, and the easternmost sunrise. Public routes list the drive from Fujin to Fuyuan as about 3 hours, but actual travel time depends on navigation, road construction, and weather. It's more convenient to stay in Fujin for the first leg. The Ten Thousand Mu Rice Park is best visited during the day when the light is good; the layers of the vast fields are worth lingering over more than rushing to check them off your list. If you plan to go birdwatching in the nearby wetlands, a pair of lightweight binoculars is enough. Don't park your car on the farm production roads just to take photos. 🦆 The stretch from Fujin to Fuyuan is the part of the route that needs the most buffer time. It's recommended to leave after breakfast, make only short stops along the way, and confirm your accommodation and the route for the next morning's early start once you arrive in the afternoon. The temperature difference between morning and evening in September can be significant, so keeping a light down jacket or fleece in the car is more practical than bringing an extra outfit for photos. Experience the Fuyuan cranberries during the day. The local public summer/autumn rural leisure routes list the cranberry base as a stop from August to October, but before you set off, check directly with the base or local tourism channels to see if it's open to visitors and if there are harvesting experiences available. Until confirmed, treat it as an optional stop. 🫐 In the evening, you can head to the Easternmost Square and the Wusu Town area, and let the breeze of the border river accompany a slow walk. This is a great place to watch the water and the sky darken. It's not recommended to make "must see the sunrise" a hard requirement: cloud cover, wind speed, and the ability to wake up early are all very real factors. If you want to chase the light, prepare your parking, warm clothing, and hot drinks the night before. Heixiazi Island deserves a half-day on its own; don't try to squeeze it into the same morning as the sunrise or the cranberry base experience. The National Forestry and Grassland Administration recently mentioned that facilities and interactive activities on the island are being upgraded, but reservation rules, opening hours, entry methods, and border management requirements may change, so you should rely on official information on the day of your departure. 🌅 The benefit of this route is that there's no backtracking between cities. Use Jiamusi as your arrival point, see the harvest colors on the black soil in Fujin, and end in Fuyuan at the easternmost waterfront. If you only have two days, cut out one wetland or save Heixiazi Island for next time; don't sacrifice sleep to rush for the sunrise. Finally, divide the tasks among your travel companions: one person handles navigation and fuel levels, one is responsible for reservations and weather, and one brings snacks and a thermos. Autumn on the Sanjiang Plain doesn't win by having a dense itinerary; leaving time to pull over, wait for the light, and look at the fields makes it feel more like a truly relaxing road trip. 🚗

In Fujin, 90% of people just visit the wetland park and leave. But let me tell you—the wetland park is only half of Fujin; the other half is hidden in the rice paddies and on the hills. This is a guide I put together after scouting the locations myself, so follow it to avoid any pitfalls. 🎯 Stop 1: Ten Thousand Mu Rice Park (must-visit!) 📍 Location: Chang'an Town, Fujin City, about a 20-minute drive from the city center 💰 Admission: Please check the official park notice for current pricing ⏰ Recommended visit time: 2–3 hours This is the country's first "Rice Sea Countryside Complex," and the core experience is simple: get up high. The 39m sightseeing tower is the centerpiece of the park. Take the elevator up (yes, there's an elevator, no climbing required) for a 360-degree view of 4 giant rice paddy paintings. What does that mean? It means different varieties of rice are planted to create massive patterns in the fields. Looking down from the tower, it looks like a 3D oil painting on the earth. In August, the rice is at its greenest and the patterns are clearest, offering a stunning visual impact. Below the tower is the "Rice Knowledge Science Museum," where you can learn the entire process of rice from sowing to harvesting. It's quite interesting. ⚠️ Tips to avoid pitfalls: · Definitely go on a sunny day! On cloudy days, the colors of the rice paddy paintings are significantly dulled · The light is best between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, making the patterns look most 3D · You can take a small rice paddy train in the park, but the route is short; if you're short on time, you can skip it · There are few dining options in the park, so it's recommended to bring your own water and snacks 🏔️ Stop 2: Jintai + Bielayinzi Mountain (severely underrated) 📍 Location: Bielayinzi Mountain, Fujin City, about 30 minutes from the city center 💰 Admission: Free ⏰ Recommended visit time: 1.5–2 hours Jintai is an ancient-style pavilion built on the highest peak of Bielayinzi Mountain. It is 30m high, has 4 floors, and features Qing Dynasty imperial architectural style. The plaque was inscribed by Ouyang Zhongshi. I give the view from the top a perfect score— Below your feet are the millions of acres of fertile fields of the Sanjiang Plain, and in the distance is a cluster of 71 white wind turbines. On a clear day, you can see for dozens of kilometers. "Walk the road to prosperity, climb Jintai, and welcome good fortune." Locals say climbing Jintai brings good luck, so since you're here, you might as well climb it. ⚠️ Tips to avoid pitfalls: · The last part of the mountain road requires walking, about 15 minutes, so wear comfortable shoes · It's windy on the mountain, so it's recommended to bring a light jacket even in summer · Arriving an hour before sunset is best to see the wind turbine fields in the sunset glow · The facilities are quite simple; there are no kiosks, so bring your own water 🗺️ What's the most reasonable itinerary? Option A (one-day intensive version): 6:00 AM–9:00 AM: Wetland Park (morning mist + sunrise, fewer crowds) 9:30 AM–12:00 PM: Ten Thousand Mu Rice Park (good lighting) 2:00 PM–4:30 PM: Jintai + Bielayinzi Mountain 5:30 PM–7:00 PM: Sunset at Jintai (if you have time, you can visit twice) Option B (two-day leisurely version): Day 1: Wetland Park all day (take your time, take plenty of photos) Day 2: Morning at Ten Thousand Mu Rice Park, afternoon sunset at Jintai 🚗 How to handle transportation? Fujin doesn't have an airport. The nearest is Jiamusi Airport, which is about a 1.5-hour drive from Jiamusi to Fujin. You can take a high-speed train to Fujin Station; it's very convenient to take a taxi to the city center after exiting the station. There is no public transportation between the attractions. Suggestions: · If you have a group, charter a car for the day, which costs about CNY 300–400 · If you are traveling alone or in a small group, you can carpool or take a taxi; a one-way trip from the city to the attractions costs CNY 50–80 · Driving yourself is the most convenient, and the road conditions are very good 🌡️ What to wear in Fujin in August? Daytime temperatures are 25–28°C, and 15–18°C in the morning and evening, so there's a large temperature difference. A short-sleeved shirt + light jacket is the standard outfit. Be sure to bring a jacket when visiting the wetlands and mountains. It's recommended to wear long pants to prevent mosquito bites and because it's cool in the morning and evening. Wear sneakers or hiking shoes, as they are needed for the wooden boardwalks and mountain paths. 📌 A few honest words to conclude Fujin isn't one of those "viral check-in spots." It doesn't have crowded throngs of people or an overly commercialized atmosphere. What it does have is the most pristine wetlands, the most expansive rice paddies, and the quietest wind turbine fields. If you're tired of crowded popular attractions and want to find a place to truly relax, Fujin is definitely worth a visit. Choose a place to stay by the rice paddies—a small courtyard where you can open the door to endless green. The rooms are cozy, with Northeast floral fabric cushions and wooden furniture. The breakfast made by the owner feels like home. Sitting in the courtyard at night to watch the stars, you can see the Milky Way—you can't see this many stars in the city.

🍜 In August, the average temperature in Jiamusi is only about 22℃. The river breeze blows away the summer heat, making it the most comfortable season in the “Northern Granary”🌿. This time, I explored the city’s Songhua River area and Fuyuan Dongji. Three days and two nights cost just over 1,000 yuan per person. Here’s my detailed experience. 🏨 Accommodation tips In the city, it’s best to stay near Wanda Plaza in Xiangyang District or around Jiamusi Station. There are many chain hotels priced between 150 and 300 yuan. Dining and taxis are convenient. I booked a high-end hotel near Wanda Plaza on Trip.com, rated 4.8, starting at 276 yuan. It includes free shuttle service and smart room controls, with city night views right outside the window✨. If you want to catch the Dongji sunrise, stay the second night in Fuyuan city. Chain hotels near the river cost 150–300 yuan per person. Taking a taxi early morning to Dongji Square to see the country’s first ray of sunlight is worth it🌅. Trip.com also offers many options like Fuyuan Fengyue homestay. Sisters wanting to experience a farmhouse kang bed can go for it. 🍻 Food recommendations Jiamusi is truly a paradise for carbs and river delicacies. In the city, you must try a bowl of secret recipe mixed noodles, about 15 yuan. The sauce coats the chewy noodles, paired with cucumber strips and crushed peanuts, so good you’ll lick the bowl🥢. Don’t miss the Fuyuan salmon, whether steamed or braised. The meat is firm and fresh. Riverfront fish restaurants serve satisfying meals for 60–80 yuan per person🐟. At Tongjiang Street Jinkou Hezhe Culture Village, try taraha (half-roasted river fish) and fresh fish, ancient fishing flavors. Dip in vinegar with chili oil for a flavor that’ll blow your mind. For late-night snacks, head straight to Youfang Hutong night market. Grilled cold noodles, stuffed pancakes, and silly pig’s trotters rotate through, filling you up for about 40 yuan per person. The morning market is busiest before 5 AM. Lamb soup with sticky bean buns for 10 yuan is a local secret way to start the day🌯. ⚠️ Travel tips In August, Jiamusi has big temperature differences between morning and night. The river breeze feels chilly, so pack a light jacket🧥. Sunscreen and mosquito repellent are essential. Mosquitoes in the wetland reed beds are no joke. Spray your whole body before heading out. The drive from the city to Fuyuan Heixiazi Island takes about 3.5 hours. Renting a car for a day costs about 180 yuan, which is the best deal. Or book a day tour on Trip.com in advance for convenience and no detours🚗. Heixiazi Island scenic area ticket plus shuttle costs 142 yuan. Daytime hours are 8:30 AM–5:00 PM. Sanjiang Natural Ecology Museum adult tickets start at 123 yuan, open 8:00 AM–6:00 PM. Buying tickets on Trip.com lets you scan the code to enter easily🎫. Songhua River Wetland Park is free all day! Take bus 1 or 5 to the riverside area in the city. Birdwatch in the morning, watch the sunset in the evening. Rent a bike for 20 yuan per hour and ride the 10 km greenway. Every shot looks like a Windows desktop background🚲. 📸 Recommended attractions Fuyuan Heixiazi Island must be your first stop. It’s the earliest place in China to greet the sunrise. The island’s wetland boardwalk, Dongji pagoda, and Sino-Russian border river views are all in one place, rated 5.0🌟. Dongji Square is open 24/7. Sunrise is around 3:30 AM, so moving you to tears. Back in Jiamusi city, Songhua River Wetland Park is a hidden natural gem. Reeds grow thick, water birds circle. Walking the wooden boardwalk along the river takes 2–3 hours. The west riverbank is the best spot to watch the city sunset🌇. At Tongjiang Sanjiangkou, see the “one river, three colors” phenomenon where the Songhua River meets the Heilongjiang River. The border marker is free to visit. For a deep dive into Hezhe culture, visit Jinkou Hezhe Culture Village to try fish skin painting and experience intangible cultural heritage🪡. If you have extra time, visit Fujin National Wetland Park from June to August to see flocks of migratory birds and lotus ponds. It’s known as the “Northeast Baiyangdian.” Daliangzihe Forest Park has primeval red pine forests that block the sun. As the easternmost point of China, it boasts the earliest sunrise in the country, the spectacular confluence of three rivers, the fertile plains of the Great Northern Wilderness, and the mysterious Hezhe ethnic culture. A 6000 yuan budget for 6 days is enough for a high-quality, in-depth exploration. Without further ado, here's a tailor-made travel guide! First, let's do the math: how can we make the most of our 6000 yuan? According to the latest information, a comfortable daily expense in the Jiamusi area is approximately 500-600 yuan per person. Planning for 6 days, the total budget will be around 3000-3600 yuan. Your 6000 yuan budget is more than enough, allowing you to stay more comfortably, eat better, and have more freedom in transportation. · Transportation (round-trip airfare/train tickets): This is the biggest variable. It's recommended that you check flight schedules from your city to Jiamusi East Suburb Airport in advance, or take the high-speed train from Harbin (approximately 2.5 hours). A budget of 1500-2500 yuan is suggested. · **Local Accommodation:** Jiamusi offers a wide variety of accommodations at reasonable prices. Comfortable hotels in the city center cost around 250-400 yuan per night, while characteristic guesthouses in Fuyuan and Tongjiang cost around 300-500 yuan per night. A total budget of approximately 1800 yuan for 6 nights is suggested. · **Local Transportation:** This is crucial! Jiamusi's attractions are scattered, and public transportation is inconvenient. The most recommended approach is a combination of high-speed rail and local car rental/charter. For example, take the high-speed train from Jiamusi to Fuyuan (approximately 2 hours), then rent a car locally (approximately 200-300 yuan per day) or hire a car. This is both time-saving and flexible, with a transportation budget of approximately 1000-1500 yuan for 6 days. · Tickets and Dining: Tickets to major natural attractions in Jiamusi are inexpensive, such as Heixiazi Island (around 100 yuan) and Fujin Wetland Park. The real expense is in the food! The Hezhe ethnic group's whole fish feast and authentic Northeastern cuisine offer generous portions and delicious flavors. A daily food budget of 100-150 yuan per person is enough for a very satisfying meal. This part of the budget is approximately 800 yuan. With everything ready, let's officially begin! Here is a 6-day immersive itinerary: Day 1: Arrival in Jiamusi, First Impressions of the Three Rivers · Upon arrival, settle into the city. If you have enough time, don't rush to the attractions. We recommend taking a stroll along the Songhua River at the Educated Youth Square. This is not only a place for citizens to relax but also carries the weight of the "Great Northern Wilderness" educated youth era. Looking at the sculptures and memorial walls, with the river breeze on your face, you can instantly feel the deep historical pulse of this land. In the evening, you must start your culinary journey with an authentic "Jiamusi mixed noodles" or "pickled cabbage and pork hot pot." Day 2: Heading North! Towards Fuyuan, the Easternmost Point of China · After breakfast, take the high-speed train to Fuyuan City, the first highlight of your trip. Upon arrival in the afternoon, you can first visit the Fuyuan Fish Exhibition Hall to learn about the rich fish resources of the Heilongjiang River, laying the groundwork for tomorrow's "all-fish feast." · Before evening, be sure to reach Wusuli Town and Dongji Square. This is the place marked "China's Easternmost Point." Standing in the square, you'll see the wide Wusuli River in front of you, with the Russian landscape on the opposite bank. Check the sunset time in advance; the twilight scenery here is vast and serene, extremely breathtaking. Check your accommodation in Fuyuan that night, and remember to get some rest, as you'll be witnessing China's earliest sunrise tomorrow. Day 3: The First Rays of Sunlight and Exploring Heixiazi Island · Today you'll need to get up early (sunrise in summer may be between 2-3 am!) to head to Heixiazi Island. Wait at Dongji Square, and when the first rays of sunlight of the Republic pierce through the clouds and shine upon you, the sense of ceremony and excitement is indescribable. · After sunrise, visit the island. Here you can not only witness the confluence of the two rivers (Heilongjiang and Wusuli), but also visit a black bear-themed park and search for the border markers between China and Russia. In the afternoon, you can head to a cranberry plantation; if you visit during autumn (September-October), you might even have the chance to experience "water-picking" cranberries. In the evening, be sure to savor the Hezhe-style "whole fish feast" or "raw fish," the freshest gifts from the three rivers. Day 4: Downriver along the river, exploring Tongjiang, the ancestral home of the Hezhe people · Drive or hire a car from Fuyuan along the Heilongjiang River to Tongjiang City, enjoying the scenic border river views along the way. Upon arrival, head straight to the Jiejinkou Hezhe Ethnic Tourism Resort. This is one of the main settlements of the Hezhe people. You can visit the Hezhe cultural village, admire the amazing fish skin painting technique, listen to the ancient "Imakan" storytelling, and gain a deeper understanding of the unique culture of this "fishing and hunting people." Stay overnight in Tongjiang and enjoy the tranquility of this border town. Day 5: The Confluence of Three Rivers and the Return Trip to Jiamusi · In the morning, visit the Sanjiangkou Scenic Area in Tongjiang. This is the confluence of the Songhua River and the Heilongjiang River. Due to their different colors, the two rivers flow distinctly eastward, creating a spectacular sight. Stand at the starting point marker of the "Tongsan Highway" and feel the charm of this geographical landmark. · In the afternoon, take the high-speed train or drive back to Jiamusi city. In the evening, you can take a walk in the riverside park to observe the local life, or find a barbecue to experience the warmth of a Northeastern night. Day 6: A Modern Landscape of the Black Soil Granary and a Warm Return Trip · On the last day, we suggest focusing on this fertile black soil. You have two options: · Option A (Natural Ecology): Visit Fujin National Wetland Park. Take a boat trip through thousands of acres of reeds, watch waterbirds flutter, and experience the poetic feeling of "boating through reeds, people traveling in a painting." Option B (Modern Agriculture): Visit the Fujin 10,000-Mu Rice Paddy Park. Climb the observation tower to see the giant rice paddy art painted on the earth's canvas and the rice seedlings' paint, and experience the modern atmosphere of this "granary of a great nation." Depending on your flight or train schedule, return leisurely from Fujin or Jiamusi city, concluding this fulfilling and unforgettable trip to the easternmost point of China. A few helpful tips to make your trip even better: 1. Clothing Guide: Jiamusi has four distinct seasons. Summers are cool, so bring a jacket. Winters (December-February) are extremely cold, with temperatures reaching -20 to -30 degrees Celsius. Be sure to wear a thick down jacket, snow boots, a hat, gloves, and other full-body warm clothing. 2. Border Notice: When traveling to border areas such as Fuyuan and Tongjiang, be sure to carry your identification documents and strictly abide by the border management regulations of the scenic area. Do not take inappropriate photos of boundary markers or the other side of the border. 3. Food Radar: When ordering, please note that Northeastern Chinese cuisine is known for its large portions. Two or three dishes may be enough for two people to avoid the sweet dilemma of having more eyes than stomachs. 4. Seasonal Activities: In addition to the summer/autumn activities mentioned above, Jiamusi in winter is a winter wonderland. You can visit the Tangyuan Daliangzi River National Forest Park to admire the rime ice and go skiing, or experience ice sports at the Ice and Snow World in the city. Final Remarks The charm of Jiamusi lies not in its exquisitely crafted scenic spots, but in its vast and boundless atmosphere and the authentic life rooted in the black soil. When you stand at Dongji Square to greet the sunrise, touch the fish skin paintings at Jiejinkou, and marvel at the rice paddy paintings in Fujin, you will find that what you get for 6,000 yuan is a three-dimensional memory of the land, rivers, ethnic groups, and harvest. Isn't this vastness and depth exactly what we've been searching for on our journeys? Isn't this vastness and depth exactly what we are always searching for on our journeys?

To be honest❗ Jiamusi is stunning, but I really don’t recommend visiting in August and September😭 Many people ask when Jiamusi is at its most beautiful. The honest answer: Jiamusi’s romance is undeniable, but August and September are by far the worst months to visit all year! This hidden gem on the northeastern border offers vast Sanjiang plains, soothing border river views, pristine forest wetlands, and the unique culture of the Hezhe people. Each season has its own vibe, and every photo you take captures the healing northern scenery. But having been there twice and fully experienced the local travel rhythm, I sincerely advise: don’t come during the August–September summer peak! The scenery is still great, but the experience is cut in half! No hype or negativity today, just solid facts with a full guide to Jiamusi. If you’re planning a trip, save this✅ 🌧️ The honest reasons to avoid Jiamusi in August and September 1. Unpredictable weather makes your trip a gamble August and September are the rainiest and most unstable months in Jiamusi. The weather changes wildly! One moment it’s bright and sunny, the next you get sudden heavy showers with no warning. Most local attractions are outdoors, like Daliangzihe National Forest Park, wetland boardwalks, and riverside viewing platforms, which have almost no rain shelters. After rain, forest trails and mountain steps become very slippery, ruining photo opportunities and interrupting hiking, lake tours, and other activities. Carefully planned routes can be canceled anytime, making the trip exhausting. Even worse is the hot, humid feeling! Don’t assume northeastern summers are cool. In August, Jiamusi’s humidity is very high, making it sticky and uncomfortable, with no refreshing northern breeze. After a few hours outside, you’ll feel hot and tired, and the experience suffers. 2. Mosquitoes everywhere! Two minutes of photos, half an hour scratching This is the biggest summer pitfall in Jiamusi💣 Forests, wetlands, and riverside grasslands are swarming with mosquitoes, especially in rural attractions. They’re numerous and aggressive. Even with long sleeves, pants, and mosquito repellent, bites are almost unavoidable, especially on ankles and neck. Instead of enjoying the natural northern scenery, you’ll be distracted swatting mosquitoes the whole time, ruining your mood. 3. High summer prices with poor value August and September are peak travel season. Local hotels and guesthouses double their prices. Budget guesthouses and value hotels that usually cost just over 100 yuan more than double their rates, and rooms are scarce without advance booking. Popular attractions have packed parking lots, and restaurants have long waits. This quiet border town suddenly feels crowded and noisy. Paying high prices but missing out on Jiamusi’s best healing scenery is not worth it. 4. Big temperature swings make dressing tricky Many think summer means just short sleeves, but that’s a big mistake! In August and September, mornings and evenings are cool, while midday is hot and sunny. Evening winds bring a strong chill. Wearing only short sleeves can leave you cold, but long sleeves feel stifling at noon. Dressing is hard to get right, and you risk catching a cold from the temperature swings. ✨ But! Jiamusi’s beauty is worth the trip (off-peak must-see list) Though late summer and early fall are disappointing, late September to mid-October is Jiamusi’s peak season! The sky is clear, the weather dry and cool, mosquitoes gone, rice fields golden, forests colorful, prices drop, and crowds thin. It’s the best time for comfort and photos. Here’s a list of hidden gems👇 🔥 Must-visit natural scenery 1. Daliangzihe National Forest Park A little-known natural oxygen bar in the northeast and Jiamusi’s top forest secret! In autumn, the whole forest turns golden and orange, with endless layers of trees creating a soothing sea of color. The pine resin and fresh vegetation scent the air, which is incredibly clean. Wooden boardwalks wind through the forest, streams babble, and the temperature is comfortable. Walking here is a full sensory experience, perfect for forest photography. Avoid summer for the best experience. 2. Fujin National Wetland Park A stunning wetland secret on the Sanjiang plain, best visited in mid to late September! Endless reeds slowly turn golden, set against a bright blue sky. Water birds skim the lake surface, creating a gentle, healing atmosphere. Drive along the wetland road for endless views. It’s barely commercialized, preserving its original natural charm—quiet and soothing. 3. Heixiazi Island A treasure island on the China-Russia border. Reserve a full day to explore! Half Chinese, half Russian, it offers unique landscapes and wide river views. In autumn, the river is clear and the sky transparent. Visit the border marker and boardwalk, see the contrasting scenery on both sides, and feel the unique border romance. Few people and vast views make it perfect for photos. 🌿 Off-the-beaten-path cultural experience Aoqiwan Hezhe tourism area A great place to learn about the little-known Hezhe fishing and hunting culture! Not recommended in summer; spring and fall are best with fewer visitors and a better atmosphere. Try traditional fishing and hunting activities, watch fish skin crafts, and meet locals drying specialty foods. Experience the authentic northeastern border culture. For fishing activities, it’s better to book with local villagers running family inns, which offer better value than paid attractions. 🍜 Jiamusi must-try local food | affordable and reliable Jiamusi is a foodie town hidden by its scenery, with very low prices and great value! ✅ Jiamusi mixed noodles: a local signature with a sweet, sour, and mildly spicy secret sauce. The noodles are chewy and refreshing, served with tofu skin and bean sprouts. Locals eat a bowl daily. Cheap and delicious. ✅ Iron pot stews: authentic northeastern iron pot stews, including goose, ribs, and fish, never disappoint. The pancakes are soft and flavorful. Perfect for warming up in autumn and winter. ✅ Riverside wild fish feast: fresh river fish cooked on the spot, tender and free of fishy taste, with pure, sweet flavor. A must-try in this border town. ✅ Grilled corn: a popular street snack, soft, sweet, and fragrant. Holding hot grilled corn in the autumn breeze creates a perfect atmosphere. 📝 Complete off-peak travel tips 🌟 Best travel time ✔️ First choice: late September to late October No mosquitoes, no continuous rain, dry and cool weather, golden forests and rice fields, stunning autumn colors, fewer tourists, lower prices, and a perfect experience. ✔️ Second choice: April to May spring Nature awakens, riverside scenery is fresh, few tourists, ideal for a quiet vacation. ❌ Avoid: early August to September Hot, rainy, mosquito-infested, expensive, and unstable travel plans. 🎒 Dressing advice (spring and fall travel) 1. Big temperature swings, bring thin long sleeves and a windbreaker for warmth and wind protection 2. Wetlands and riversides are windy; pack a knit sweater and long pants to adapt to all temperatures 3. Light and solid colors photograph best, matching forests, rivers, and reed marshes 💡 Practical tips 1. Heixiazi Island is far from the city; start early and reserve a full day 2. Local prices are very low; no need to stock up on snacks, local restaurants offer better value 3. Autumn wetlands are windy; wear comfortable, non-slip shoes for hiking 4. Travel off-peak to avoid summer crowds and unlock Jiamusi’s ultimate beauty at budget prices Final thoughts Jiamusi is truly a gentle and healing border town. It has the vastness of the north, the tranquility of forests, the softness of wetlands, and the uniqueness of the border. It’s a little-known, non-commercialized place with a peaceful, timeless atmosphere. Just don’t blindly rush there in August and September! Avoid the rainy and mosquito seasons. Wait for the autumn breeze and golden forests to unlock the town’s ultimate romance. It will be worth the trip🍂

Travel and accommodation guide Jiamusi’s travel map is clear, divided into four main areas: the city’s cultural riverfront, Fujin’s ecological wetlands, Tangyuan’s forest mysteries, and Fuyuan’s easternmost border. Driving is the best way to get around. The Sanjiang Plain offers wide-open views along the way, with alternating scenes of rice fields, wetlands, and forests—stop whenever you like. Solo travelers can choose taxis in the city or shared shuttles to the outskirts for convenience and time savings. Accommodations can be chosen based on your needs. For easy transportation and concentrated dining options, the city’s commercial areas are best, surrounded by night markets, supermarkets, and long-established restaurants. For an immersive nature experience, stay at farmhouses near wetlands or forests. If you want to catch the sunrise at the easternmost point, it’s recommended to stay overnight in Fuyuan city for easy early-morning access. The local climate has a large temperature difference between day and night. The wetlands and riversides near the suburbs are windy, so it’s advisable to always carry a light jacket. The forest and wetland areas have dense vegetation and many mosquitoes, so mosquito repellent is a must. The local cuisine features fresh fish from the three rivers, Korean ethnic flavors, and traditional northeastern home cooking. The flavors are rich and the value is excellent, suitable for all kinds of palates. Three-day essential itinerary Day 1: Stroll through the river city’s everyday life and explore its cultural heritage The first day focuses on a relaxed city tour to discover Jiamusi’s urban character and local warmth. Start early at a traditional morning market, tasting chewy handmade noodles, classic tofu pudding, and sweet sticky bean buns to fully experience the old city’s lively atmosphere. In the morning, visit the Jiamusi City Museum, which is free to the public. The museum showcases the history of the three-river basin, Hezhe fishing culture exhibits, and border development records. Unique fish skin clothing and fishing tools highlight ethnic features, making it easy to understand the land’s thousand-year history. Note that the museum is closed on Mondays. In the afternoon, take a leisurely walk in Xinglin Lake Park, where shimmering water and green trees surround you. Small bridges and flowing water complement the garden scenery, creating a quiet and peaceful atmosphere perfect for strolling, relaxing, and taking photos. Then walk along the Songhua River Park, enjoying the wide river view, the breeze rippling the waves, and fishing boats gently moored. Visit the Zhiqing Square and riverside scenic area to feel the city’s unique relaxed vibe. In the evening, explore the city night market, sampling local snacks. The evening breeze and lively atmosphere reveal Jiamusi’s gentle nightlife. Day 2: Head to the wetland secret realm and encounter nature’s creatures On the second day, immerse yourself in the ecological beauty of the Sanjiang Plain and get close to nature. Spend the whole day at Fujin National Wetland Park, which covers over 30,000 acres of pristine wetlands. Tens of thousands of acres of reeds roll like waves, and a 2.6-km wooden boardwalk winds through the reed sea. Climb the birdwatching tower for a panoramic view of the vast wetlands. Take a boat through the reed maze, often spotting wild water birds like egrets and white-naped cranes dancing in flight. The untouched natural scenery is deeply healing. During breaks, visit Fujin’s tens of thousands of acres of lotus ponds and rice field park. In midsummer, lotus flowers bloom and fill the air with fragrance. In summer and autumn, the vast rice fields turn green and ripple like waves. Giant rice field paintings create a striking visual impact. The countryside breeze is refreshing and comfortable. Stay overnight at a nearby farmhouse and enjoy an authentic three-river fish feast. Day 3: Explore the forest border and discover unique ethnic customs On the last day, connect the forest oxygen bar with the easternmost border highlights to conclude the trip. For those who prefer quiet mountain forests, visit Tangyuan Daliangzi River Forest Park. Its high forest coverage creates a natural oxygen bar. The original red pine forest shades the sky, streams flow gently, and the trails are flat and comfortable for all ages. Hike through the forest to refresh your lungs and relax, far from city noise. For those who love border scenery, head to Fuyuan’s Heixiazi Island, the country’s easternmost landmark. Climb the easternmost pagoda to overlook the two rivers’ confluence with their distinct colors. Walk the wetland boardwalk, visit the wild bear park and the China-Russia border marker, and fully experience the grandeur and solemnity of the border. If time allows, visit Aoqi Bay Hezhe ethnic village to try intangible cultural heritage projects like fish skin painting and get up close with the little-known Hezhe fishing culture. Must-try local specialties Hezhe full fish feast: Jiamusi’s signature dish, relying on high-quality river fish from the three rivers. Authentic preparations include raw fish, Talaha grilled fish, and clear stewed mixed fish, preserving the fish’s fresh sweetness. It’s a unique border flavor. Jiamusi mixed noodles: A local classic, with chewy handmade noodles and a secret sauce that’s sweet and sour and rich. Paired with side dishes, it unlocks the authentic old city taste in every bite. Northeast iron pot stew: Firewood-cooked river fish and stewed native chicken, with corn cakes stuck to the pot edge soaking up the broth. Full of homey flavor, with a solid balance of meat and vegetables. Special snacks: Sweet and sour Korean cold noodles, crispy stuffed pancakes, sweet sticky bean buns, paired with chilled soda and birch sap drinks. Refreshing and satisfying, found throughout street night markets. Travel tips 1. All major cultural and museum venues in the city are closed on Mondays. Plan your itinerary accordingly to avoid wasted trips. Forest and wetland parks close entry at dusk, so visit in the morning to allow enough time. 2. Fujin wetlands and Daliangzi River forest areas have many mosquitoes. Be sure to protect yourself. The wetland boardwalk can be slippery when wet. Stay away from deep water when enjoying water activities and be cautious. 3. Heixiazi Island is a border control area. Always carry your ID, follow border management rules, and avoid photographing control facilities. Visitors must take the designated sightseeing shuttle. 4. The temperature difference between day and night is significant near rivers and forests. The wind picks up in the evening, so dress warmly to avoid catching a cold. Summer often has short showers, so carry an umbrella. 5. Outlying scenic spots are far from the city with long travel times. Prepare drinking water and snacks in advance. Buy local specialties in city supermarkets for better value and to avoid inflated prices at scenic spots. A city embracing the three rivers’ grand views, with wetlands and forests hiding charm. Jiamusi perfectly blends magnificent river scenery, pristine wetlands, tranquil forests, and unique border customs. Without crowded crowds, its gentle, off-the-beaten-path northern scenery holds a healing poetry unique to northern borderlands, ideal for slow-paced, immersive travel.

📸 photo spots In July, just standing on the west bank of the Songhua River embankment, the wind blows your hair into a dramatic scene 🌾. To capture the vast border feeling, rush to the "East" landmark at Fuyuan East Pole Square. When the early morning light hits the river, it truly takes your breath away 🌅. The rice paddy art and sightseeing train at Fujin’s 10,000-acre rice park, with green waves against the blue sky, create a full Japanese-style healing vibe 🚂. At Tongjiang’s Sanjiangkou, where two rivers meet with clear and murky waters distinctly divided, shooting silhouettes on the riverside slope is full of story 🌊. If you like ethnic style, renting a Korean ethnic costume in Huachuan Xinghuo Village costs only 20 yuan, instantly perfect for photos 🎎. Tangyuan Daliangzi River Forest Park’s red pine mother forest blocks out the sun, with forest streams as the backdrop, naturally cooling the scene 🌲. ⚠️ avoid pitfalls July temperatures in Jiamusi range from 17 to 29℃. Wear short sleeves during the day and a light jacket in the evening. Sudden showers can come anytime, so keep an umbrella handy ☂️. The little black mosquitoes near wetlands and lotus ponds are fierce. Apply mosquito repellent thoroughly before getting off the car, and avoid running into the grass wearing skirts or shorts 🦟. Ignore the small signs on the street advertising "low-price wetland day tours." Most are disguised shopping tours. I booked official tickets and admission on Trip.com for a smooth experience 🚫. Be cautious of the men at the station offering "chartered rides to Fuyuan." Midway price hikes are common. Booking through official platforms ensures you have proof. Prices at the river fish restaurants inside scenic areas are doubled. For the Hezhe full fish feast, go directly to local restaurants at Jiejinkou. Heixiazi Island requires a border pass in advance. Remember to bring your ID and don’t cross boundaries or take photos indiscriminately at the scenic entrance 📷. 🍜 food recommendations You must try Youfang Hutong! Cold noodles mixed, grilled cold noodles wrapped with stinky tofu, and pancake wraps with vegetables—filling for just a few yuan 🌯. Jiamusi’s mixed cold noodles are the soul of the city. Buckwheat noodles are chewy and springy, coated in a sweet, sour, and spicy sauce. Both Xingxing Cold Noodle Restaurant and Three Sisters Cold Noodle Restaurant have been around for decades. A large bowl costs 15 yuan 🍜. Guobaorou (sweet and sour pork) is crispy and sweet. Lao Renyi Restaurant’s version is crispy outside and tender inside, with a satisfying crunch 🥢. At Tongjiang Jiejinkou, the Hezhe full fish feast is a must-try. Raw fish, taraha, and shaved fish slices are so fresh your tongue will tingle 🐟. Fujin’s iron pot stewed goose served with corn pancakes is huge. Four people couldn’t finish it, and it costs only 30 to 40 yuan per person—so filling you’ll need to lean against the wall after eating 🍲. Fuyuan’s smoked salmon makes a great gift and is half the price of Harbin’s. It’s amazing mixed with rice at home 🎁. 🗺️ itinerary Four days and three nights without rushing is the most comfortable. Taxi rides within the city usually cost under 10 yuan. Don’t be fooled by unlicensed taxis. In July, Jiamusi welcomes China’s earliest sunrise with a summer breeze at 22℃.
