Stockholm one day trip 🇸🇪
I had an 8-hour layover in Stockholm, so I decided to make the most of it and do a mini city walk instead of staying at the airport.
From Stockholm Arlanda Airport, I took the train into the city and arrived at Stockholm Central Station. The fastest option is the Arlanda Express, which takes about 18 minutes between the airport and Stockholm Central.
From Stockholm Central Station, I started walking toward the old town area. On the way, I passed Strömsborg, a tiny islet in the middle of central Stockholm.
My first fika stop was Café Krans, a cozy little café in Gamla Stan. After that, I walked to Stortorget, one of the most photogenic spots in Stockholm. This is the famous square in Gamla Stan with colorful historic buildings, cobblestone streets, and that classic old-town atmosphere.
Around this area, I also stopped by Caffellini Espresso Bar, a tiny Italian-style espresso bar in Gamla Stan. The place is small, but the coffee was really good, and I loved the pistachio cannoli.
Another fika stop is Bröd & Salt, where I tried a Swedish-style cinnamon bun. Right next to it is Paloma Tea Company, a beautiful tea shop with a very cute display. When I visited, the window display had moving penguins, and it was so adorable that I had to stop and look. The shop itself has a clean, minimal, elegant style, and it focuses on premium tea blends sourced from different places around the world.
Then walk to Karl Johans torg, around the Slussen area. It is a good spot to enjoy a wider city view of Stockholm.
Then go to Östermalms Saluhall, a beautiful historic food hall that has been around since 1888, with restaurants, cafés, seafood, cheese, pastries, and many high-quality food stalls. I tried salmon there and really enjoyed it. The place felt clean, organized, and easy to sit down for a proper meal during a short city visit.
Before flying out, I grabbed a drink from Joe & The Juice at the airport. It is a Danish café and juice chain founded in Copenhagen, you see it a lot around Scandinavia. They are known for juices and shakes, it was a nice final airport stop before my next flight.
This was a small and easy Stockholm city walk for an 8-hour layover. I did not get to explore everything deeply, but it was enough to enjoy a little taste of Stockholm. If I had more time, I would definitely love to come back and explore the museums, viewpoints, and more neighborhoods properly.
