Although I thought 5 hours would be plenty of time, there were more things to see than expected, and the time flew by. To fully enjoy everything, I recommend spending an entire day there. Additionally, the opening hours vary depending on the building, so it’s a good idea to check the hours in advance and start with the places that close earlier. Upon arrival, I immediately went to meet Santa at the Santa Claus Office. It felt like meeting Mickey Mouse at Disneyland, with a charming path leading to Santa’s room that made me excited. Meeting Santa is free, but purchasing photos or videos costs extra. (You cannot take pictures with your own camera or smartphone.) When I told Santa I was visiting from Japan, he surprised me by speaking in Japanese! ✨ (I was amazed—how many languages can he speak? 😳) I initially thought the Santa meet-and-greet was only at the Santa Claus Office, but it turns out you can also meet Santa at the Christmas House located further inside. Helsinki is the capital of Finland. The city is small but very atmospheric, strict, and minimalist. My family and I have visited here more than once. I want to share some places that are worth visiting if you are in Helsinki for one day (or during a layover) to get a fuller impression of the city. 🔸Senate Square. The heart of Helsinki. Located in the Kruununhaka district, this is a great starting point for exploring the city. ✔️You can hop on a double-decker Hop-on Hop-off bus at the square. The square features the Senate building, merchant houses, the University of Helsinki, St. Nicholas Cathedral, and a monument to Alexander II in the center. ✔️You can enter St. Nicholas Cathedral and listen to the organ. The square often hosts events such as fairs, concerts, and festivals. 🔸Market Square (Kauppatori). Located by the sea and operates year-round. Here, you can try national street food and buy souvenirs. ‼️Beware of large seagulls that might steal food right out of your hands! 📍Accessible by tram 2 and 2H, or bus 17. Address: Kaivokatu 5, Naantali We stayed at a hotel in Turku and took the bus to Naantli in the morning. 📍You can buy a ticket at the ticket office on site. However, be aware that there may be lines, so I recommend purchasing your ticket in advance on the website. The park itself is located on an island. You can access the park from the mainland via a bridge. The ticket office is located behind the bridge. I recommend picking up a guidebook (printed in several languages) right away. ‼️The park is located in a forested area with lots of slides and rocks. Make sure to bring comfortable shoes beforehand. It's best to dress warmly, as it's always windy and humid. What to do in the park? 🔸Of course, you should say hello and hug all the characters. 🔸Go to the show. Even though it's in Finnish, everything is clear)) We really enjoyed it. 🔸Climb around all the houses. Recently, I visited the VALO Hotel & Work Helsinki. I liked the hotel and can recommend it, but there are a few nuances to consider when choosing it. ✔️ The hotel is located at: Helsinki, 109 Mannerheimintie 🔸 In my opinion, VALO Hotel is more suitable for those traveling for work or by car. 📍 The hotel is not close to the city center or metro; you need to take a bus to get to the center. The travel time is approximately 30 minutes. 📍 The reception desk operates 24/7. The staff speaks English. You can also check in independently, which is very convenient. ‼️ Upon check-in, you need to provide a European bank card or a deposit of 150 euros. Our Belarusian card was not accepted, so I recommend having cash just in case. ✔️ Free internet is available throughout the hotel. There are many comfortable spots for work or meetings. ✔️ For an additional fee, you can visit the spa center (sauna, pool, jacuzzi). 🔸 The room is small but has everything you need. It's clean, and the mattresses and pillows are comfortable. 🔸 Breakfast is buffet-style, diverse, and filling. If I travel for work again, I will likely stay here again.

I made a reservation in advance through the official website. The fee includes towel and locker use. The exterior has a modern and stylish atmosphere. The facility is divided into a restaurant and sauna area. I thought there were only two saunas, but on the day I visited, they also had a private sauna available, so I was able to use a total of four. Instead of a cold bath, I jumped into the Baltic Sea, which is an experience you don't often get in Japan, and it was really fun. I'd never been to a proper sauna before, so I thought I could stay for two hours, but when I actually went, the two hours flew by and I wished I'd stayed longer. After leaving the sauna, I went to Löyly Helsinki for dinner. I tried to enter the restaurant, but it was fully booked. They told me to sit wherever I wanted at the bar and order at the counter, so I ended up having a hamburger from the bar menu. So, if you'd like to eat at the restaurant, I recommend making a reservation for the sauna as well. The hamburger I ordered was absolutely delicious! The accompanying fries were quite salty (though other Nordic places tend to be quite salty as well), but the portion was huge. Should you take the VR overnight train to see the Northern Lights in Finland? 🤔 This question has been swirling in my mind for a long, long time! 😵 On one hand, the train experience sounds super cool, but on the other hand, I heard the compartments are super narrow and you have to sway for 12 hours… 😫 I thought, that time is enough for several round-trip flights, so why not just fly directly to Rovaniemi! ✈️ But in the end, my partner and I couldn’t resist our curiosity and decided to try it ourselves! 🤷‍♀️ And guess what? It was amazing! 🥰 Although I admit, the space is indeed small, and you have to be very careful turning around with two people inside… 😅 But! It’s clean! Comfortable! The experience is top-notch! 💯 We bought our tickets on the VR app, super convenient, and chose a sleeper with a private bathroom on the second floor! 🛌 The big suitcase couldn’t be opened, so we packed toiletries and such in a small backpack. 🧳 What surprised me the most was the bathroom! 🚽 Pull the curtain, and it instantly turns into a shower! My wife and I even took a shower on the train, which felt so amazing! 🛁 The best part was my partner, the super light sleeper “Pea Princess” 👸 She actually slept through the night until morning and said she slept really well! 😴 In the morning, we went to the dining car for breakfast, watching the snowy scenery slowly pass by outside… ❄️ At that moment, I really felt it was all worth it! #northernlights Two months ago, we made a last-minute decision to chase the northern lights in Finland. Since we booked so late, most glass igloos were already full, and the only option left was the original Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort. I kept scrolling through Xiaohongshu for tips but couldn’t find very detailed reviews. Honestly, the décor color scheme made me a little anxious, but we had no other choice, so we just went for it. Because our trip including flights was only seven days, we decided to skip Santa Claus Village and head straight to the Arctic Circle.

#northernlights I was so lucky this time! On the first day, I got to see the northern lights, and right after that, Finland treated us to the season’s first snow ❄️. Tonight, we stayed in the most beautiful glass cabin. Lying in bed, we could see a sky full of stars. We waited until 1 a.m., and finally, the aurora exploded again!
