Giverny travel guide and discussion

This latest exhibition at Sotheby’s flagship gallery in Central features the rare late-career masterpiece Iris by French Impressionist master Claude Monet, appearing in full color in Asia for the first time. Exhibition Highlights ~ This work was painted between 1924 and 1925 during Monet’s later years in his garden at Giverny. Measuring approximately 160 x 180 cm, it is one of the largest and most significant core works from his "Iris" series (consisting of about 20 pieces) currently in private hands. Using purple-toned light and shadow combined with abstract brushwork, the painting captures the interplay between the irises in the garden and the shimmering water. Its style approaches abstract expressionism, showcasing Monet’s ultimate exploration of light, nature, and perception during his final years. For nearly a century, the painting remained in the private collection of the Schlumberger family in France. It has never been publicly exhibited, with only black-and-white photographs existing as records. Its debut as a full-color original in Hong Kong carries an estimated value of 22 million to 30 million euros, setting a record for the highest estimate of a single painting in French auction history. The exhibition is part of the Asian preview for Sotheby’s Paris sale, "Le Temps Retrouvé: The Schlumberger Collection." Featured works include several pieces by Monet, alongside other Impressionist and Modern masters such as Renoir and Chagall. The exhibition runs from September 22nd to 27th, 2026 (from now until this Sunday). It will then continue its world tour before finally going up for auction in Paris on October 22nd. During the same period, Sotheby’s Hong Kong is also hosting an auction preview for Modern and Contemporary Art (running until the 29th), with the auctions held on the 28th and 29th. The atmosphere is lively, often with queues at the entrance. Sotheby’s Maison itself is a large-scale cultural space located at Landmark Chater in Central. The environment is bright and professional, making it ideal for viewing original masterpieces up close. Admission is free (for general public exhibitions), but there may be queues during peak hours. How to Get There ~

The exhibition isn't just about Monet; it's a beautiful fusion of Eastern and Western garden aesthetics. Visitors can also look forward to: A portrait of Monet (painted by French artist Albert André) Works by Japanese ukiyo-e master Utagawa Hiroshige Large-scale interactive art installations: an illuminated paper-sculpture garden and a blue chinoiserie paper-cut window framing Victoria Harbour A giant mural blending Chinese pavilions with iconic water lily motifs What makes it even more special is the breathtaking view of Victoria Harbour just outside the exhibition hall's floor-to-ceiling windows. The indoor artwork perfectly complements the real-life seascape outside. Enjoying the art while snapping some great photos is incredibly therapeutic. It's hands-down the most worthwhile art event this summer! Hurry up and grab your friends to go together! Who would've thought! At MixC Qianhai in Shenzhen, I discovered a real-life Monet Garden – clusters of jacaranda flowers so vividly purple it's like someone tipped over a paint palette. The moment I stepped in, I was instantly overwhelmed by romance! 💜 Right after getting off at Guiwan Station, a faint floral scent led me to Breeze Valley following the signs. Turning a corner, I was suddenly greeted by a sea of purple! Jacaranda blossoms hung in clusters, sunlight filtering through the petals and casting lilac-tinted spots on the ground. When the wind blew, petals fluttered down like a scene straight out of a K-drama! 📸 Hidden in the middle of the floral sea is a charming French-style manor. The vine-covered archway is perfect for backlit shots, and by the piano fountain, a girl was playing *Canon*—the notes blending with the floral fragrance gave me goosebumps! A white bench at the cottage entrance made me feel like I’d transform into the lady of the manor any second. 🏰 Moms with kids, don’t miss the floral slide! Shaped like purple petals, kids sliding down look like they’re tumbling into a flower sea. Nearby, a vintage magic mirror frames both the blossoms and the sky—perfect for bestie photos that’ll blow up your social feed! 👭 I even bumped into a "lion NPC" in a white suit! Wearing an eye mask and holding a bouquet, he was so gentlemanly, straight out of a fairy tale. He offered to take photos, and my post had everyone asking where this was! Pssst—he usually appears around 3 PM, so plan your visit! 🦁 Address note: Take Line 5 to Guiwan Station. The floral displays are at Breeze Valley and the B2 courtyard of MixC Qianhai. Best time? 4 PM—soft light for dreamy backlit shots. Wear pastels to complement the purple blooms! This floral paradise is pure therapy, with romance sweetening the air. Shenzhen folks, don’t miss this purple dream—hurry and book your floral date! 💐

#attractive #postandearn #MonetGarden #Giverny #FranceTravel #ClaudeMonet #Impressionism Visiting Fondation Monet in Giverny was like walking into a living painting. Just an hour from Paris, this was Claude Monet’s home and garden for over forty years – the place that inspired some of his most famous works. As I entered, I was instantly surrounded by colours and harmony. The Clos Normand flower garden bursts with rows of tulips, irises, roses, and poppies planted in a free-flowing, artistic style. Every path felt like it led into a new canvas of blooms. Crossing under the archways of climbing roses, I reached the Japanese Water Garden, where the iconic green bridge is draped in wisteria and reflected in the tranquil pond dotted with water lilies. Standing there, I could almost see Monet painting his Water Lilies series, capturing the subtle play of light and shadow on water. It felt peaceful yet deeply inspiring. Inside Monet’s house, pastel-coloured rooms, blue kitchen tiles, and his collection of Japanese prints offered glimpses into his daily life and artistic vision. Looking out the windows onto the gardens he created made me appreciate how his environment was his art. ✅ Practical Tips: – Best visited April to October for full blooms. – Purchase tickets online in advance to avoid long queues. – Arrive early morning or late afternoon for quiet reflection and better photos. – Giverny is accessible by train from Paris to Vernon-Giverny station plus a short shuttle bus. 📍 Fondation Monet is a must-visit for art lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking beauty and calm. It’s not just a garden or museum – it’s walking into Monet’s world, where art and nature blend seamlessly into poetry.

🌟 Shenzhen Monet Garden: An Impressionist Masterpiece in the City 🏙️ French Romance in a Futuristic Metropolis Hidden within Shenzhen's fast-paced CBD lies a breathtaking "Monet Garden." Inspired by the Impressionist master, this secret oasis perfectly recreates the water lily pond and Japanese bridge of Giverny, bringing Parisian artistic charm into the urban jungle. Standing amidst blue-violet hydrangeas, you might almost hear Monet whisper to Camille: "I couldn't paint your beauty, so I planted you in my garden." 🌸 A Living Tribute to Art History 1️⃣ Eternal Ode to Water Lilies Original: Monet's late-career "Water Lilies" series Backstory: The Impressionist master personally dug channels at Giverny to create his water lily pond, producing over 250 oil paintings on this theme over 20 years. While smaller, Shenzhen's version equally captures shifting clouds and sky reflections, with irises along the banks - Monet's favorite compositional element. 2️⃣ Oriental Charm of the Green Bridge Original: The Japanese Bridge in Monet's garden Easter Egg: The moss-covered texture deliberately replicates the faded blue-green tones from Monet's "Japanese Bridge" paintings. At sunset, light filtering through the arch creates water reflections identical to the master's brushstrokes. 3️⃣ Monet's Color Palette Flower Field Brilliant Design: Flowers planted according to color spectrum From pale pink to deep purple hydrangeas forming "paint tubes" to complementary blocks of golden sunflowers and blue-violet sage, walking these paths feels like strolling across Monet's palette. Dawn is especially magical, with dewdrops refracting light to perfectly demonstrate Impressionist "poetry of light." 💐 My Personal Experience At 8am, the garden resembles a waking maiden, with water lilies still holding night dew in the mist. Wear light-colored dresses for photos - when sunlight filters through the glass dome, you'll be bathed in soft-focus glow. Weekend afternoons often feature art students sketching, their easels evoking Monet painting "Impression, Sunrise" at Le Havre in 1873. What moves me most is how this garden interprets eternal artistic emotion with Shenzhen speed. When the city skyline peeks through blossoms, you'll understand - technological innovation and natural beauty are ultimately two facets of the same brilliant crystal.

✨Knaresborough—the place where God accidentally spilled the paint palette✨ [Photo 1: Viaduct, river, boat, panoramic view of the town] 📸Photo 1: Knaresborough’s “portrait” | The birthplace of this postcard Nothing defines “British small-town aesthetics” better than this! The 600-ton Knaresborough Viaduct stone bridge silently arches its back, allowing the Nidd River to gently trace its reflection. Rent a small boat (£10/h) and become part of the painting—green trees, white houses, blue sky, low clouds, ancient bridge arches… all postcard elements slowly blend before your eyes. When the oar strokes the water, time itself seems reluctant to flow too fast. [Photo 6: Bridge, train, river, houses] 📸Photo 6: The soul moment of the stone bridge | A flowing scroll A snapshot moment! The blue and white train roars through the century-old stone bridge arch—the romantic duet of industrial civilization and medieval stone. The bridge is frozen poetry, the train is a lively note, and the town sleeps and wakes within this harmonious poem of motion and stillness. [Photo 2: Stone steps covered with vines] 📸Photo 2: Falling into a fairy tale path woven by vines Don’t just stare at the river! Turn around and dive into an unnamed stone stairway, where greenery rushes like a waterfall, sunlight is shattered into gold coins by the leaves, and the Tyndall effect takes tangible form here. Take a deep breath of the damp scent of moss mixed with stone—has time folded back several centuries in this light and shadow? [Photo 3: Thatch-roofed cottages and visitors] 📸Photo 3: A living specimen of British aesthetics | Even hobbits would be tempted The thatch-roofed cottages on the slope (Cotswold style invading North Yorkshire?) are the town’s exquisite surprise! Black windows, white walls, flowers at the corners, even passersby become the perfect embellishment. No need to squeeze into the Cotswolds; every window frame here is a picture frame. [Photo 4: Arched passage entrance and weathered walls] 📸Photo 4: Even corners worn by life have charm A secret passage entrance stumbled upon by chance! Graffiti on the weathered walls, a shaky old sign, tangled wires—this unadorned “worn beauty” is the core of Knaresborough’s relaxed vibe. The coexistence of decay and refinement is the true human warmth. [Photo 5: Riverside, crowd, houses] 📸Photo 5: A lazy slice of riverside life Sitting on the riverside railing, you become a scenery observer. Watch locals holding coffee chatting by the rail, boats full of laughter glide past reflections, colorful houses crowd the hillside like Lego blocks. The shadows of clouds dance on the rooftops—if only there were a scone to go with it, it would be the perfect British afternoon! 📍Travel tips Transport: Manchester train 🚆 2 hours direct, step off the station right onto the bridge (Photo 1 view)! Regret art: If you miss Mother Shipton's Cave (the mysterious prophecy cave) and the small castle, save the memory for autumn 🍁 Food: Bed Race frenzy crowding restaurants? Escape to the riverside coffee cart for a break, it’s more atmospheric than Greggs! 📢 To every “runaway painting protagonist”: No need to wait for a reservation at Monet’s Garden; this hidden North Yorkshire town has already laid out a “flowing feast” by the Nidd River. Bring your pixel-packed eyes and a heart ready to relax anytime, come under the bridge, by the water, at the stone steps’ corner, and claim a never-fading British summer ticket. 🌿 A weekend stepping into a painting #UKBeyondLondon #HiddenGemsHealing #VeniceOfNorthYorkshire #PostcardsNowHaveCoordinates

This is Monet's House in Giverny. It is the actual place where Monet lived and also where the garden that inspired his Water Lilies series is located. The garden is beautifully maintained, making it a highly recommended spot for nature lovers. You can also tour the interior of Monet's house. While there may not be anything particularly extraordinary just because Monet lived there, the house does feature a well-curated display of his works, reflecting his life. Beyond Monet's house, the village of Giverny itself is a picturesque setting. Since the village is not very large, if you visit Monet's house, I highly recommend taking the time to explore Giverny as well. The souvenirs at Monet's house are also lovely. There are so many tempting items that it can be hard to resist buying them all. I ended up purchasing a music box inspired by the Water Lilies series, and I am very satisfied with it.

#cityplaybook #stunningview Step into a masterpiece at Monet’s Garden in Giverny, where every petal, pond, and pathway reflects the genius of Impressionist painter Claude Monet. Wander through the vibrant Clos Normand flower garden, and be mesmerized by the iconic Japanese Water Garden, complete with water lilies and the famous green bridge. This enchanting retreat isn’t just a garden—it's a living painting, offering the same light and color that inspired Monet’s most celebrated works. A must-visit for art lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. #MonetsGarden #Giverny #ClaudeMonet #Impressionism #FrenchGardens #WaterLilies #ArtInNature #VisitFrance

It is located in Kent, one of the ancient medieval cities in the UK, and is home to the ruins of St. Augustine's Abbey, medieval city walls, and many ancient churches and buildings. · ▪ Canterbury Cathedral The oldest church in the UK and the religious center of the UK, located in Canterbury, Kent, in southeastern England. It was designed and constructed by the best Italian architects, Bramante, Michelangelo, Della Porta, and Carlo Martel, and was built in 324 AD. The existing buildings are mainly in the Gothic style from the 11th to 15th centuries. The three towers were built in different periods. The tall and narrow nave, the towering central tower, and the north and south towers on the west facade all exhibit Gothic style, while the east facade exhibits Norman style. · ▪ St Augustine's Abbey Built in 598 AD, it is located in Canterbury, Kent, England. Originally a Benedictine abbey, it is a Baroque-style building. This area originally had three churches, dedicated to St. Pancras, St. Peter, and St. Paul. It once housed a large collection of vestments, golden chalices, silver crosses, ivory statues, silk cloaks embroidered with gold thread, and oil paintings. However, these precious collections were lost during the war. · ▪ St. Martin's Church Built in Roman times, it is located at the foot of the mountain east of the city. It mainly consists of a nave, altar, and western tower. The detailed structure is very complex and was built with Roman materials. · ▪ Westgate Gardens Located in the riverside area in the city center, it has wide lawns and tall trees. The flower beds are full of colorful flowers, blooming continuously from spring to autumn. Walking along the path by the river, you can see the clear river water, weeping willows, and leisurely swimming ducks and swans. · ▪ The Crooked House A half-timbered bookstore and cafe built in the 16th century. It tilted due to the renovation of the chimney. The windows and door frames are all tilted, and there are Dickens' words on top. It has undergone multiple repairs, and the interior retains ancient wooden beams and floors. Charles Dickens' famous work "David Copperfield" was inspired by this small house.

|Live in Monet's garden. 💖Reason for recommendation: Dear friends😎, I have been to this place three times, Canterbury is so beautiful😍! There are super old cathedrals, charming ancient town gardens, and castle ruins full of history. It is beautiful for taking photos and has a full literary and artistic atmosphere. It is especially worth a visit. 🏰Attractions introduction: · Canterbury Cathedral⛪: This is one of the oldest churches in the UK. It is also the cathedral of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the chief bishop of the Church of England, and the religious center of the United Kingdom. · West Gate Gardens🌸: Full of Shakespearean architectural style, it is named after its proximity to the West Gate of Canterbury. It used to be a private residential garden, but now it is open to the public. The Stour River flows quietly beside the garden, and swans and wild ducks often play there. The scenery is so beautiful that any shot you take will be a blockbuster, making it the best place to take photos in Canterbury. · Canterbury Castle🏰: One of the three royal castles in Kent, built in 1066. Today, only the remains of the square tower remain. It takes about an hour by train from Paris. If you like Monet, you can go and see the real scenes in Monet's paintings. There is Monet's residence, garden, pond and Japanese bridge. There is also a museum. The garden is really big. I wonder how he took care of it? I would also like to remind everyone that after arriving at Vernon-Giverny Station, you can take a shuttle bus, rent a bicycle, walk, or call a taxi directly. Although the shuttle bus schedule seems to seem to run very often, there are actually quite a lot of buses. It was Sunday when I went there, so of course there were a lot of people queuing up. It took me about 40 minutes to get on the bus. The number of bicycles is limited, so I couldn't rent one on the day I wanted to. #Monet's Garden

The name of this inn is Les Rouges Gorges. The price starts from about 12,000 yen. There is no hospitality like in a Japanese inn lol We were only told that we could use the kitchen, bath, heating, etc. freely, so if you are looking for hospitality like in a Japanese inn, I think it will be quite disappointing. This inn is suitable for people who just want to stay or cook their own meals. The surrounding area is surrounded by nature and is a quiet place 🐦 For all three meals, I personally procured food from a nearby supermarket. I also had home-cooked meals and cider, a specialty of Giverny. If you want to visit Monet's house, nearby museums, churches, etc., why not stay here? I think it's worth buying and drinking the cider! 🌟🍷 #lesrougesgorges#French tourism#Paris suburbs#Monet's pond#Monet's house#French accommodation

[Love] 2015/06/22 France (Giverny - Monet Garden Fondation ClaudeMonet) [Love] I often dream of the time when I went to Paris for business and inspection 7 years ago. During the weekend, I drove my niece Jiaying and me with lawyer Zhu Xiaoyang's family. We had a half-day of leisure and drove for about an hour to Monet Garden. Every painting looked like an oil painting. I really liked it.

When I go to Paris, I really want to go to Giverny. You have to take a train for about an hour from downtown Paris and then take a shuttle bus to get there. It was Monet's garden, which is a hundred years old, and it seemed like he took good care of it. The flowers were so pretty.ㅠㅠ 💐 There's a lot of grass in June, so May might be the best! #OverseasTravel

The place I'm introducing today is the background of Monet's 'Water Lilies' Giverny! 🏞 The blue sky reflected in the pond 🌳 Trees of different heights ☀️ Sunlight pouring down between them And the feeling of being under them I happened to visit Orsay and Orangerie in Paris I found Monet's garden really suddenly But it still remains in a corner of my heart An unforgettable scene❣️ ✔️You can get to Monet's garden by taking the train from Paris to Benon Station And then by bus or mini train! If the time is right, I recommend the mini train👍🏻 It's convenient because the departure times are fixed And you can feel the childlike innocence of the mini train for 8 euros round trip♡ . #France travel #Giverny #Monet #Paris suburbs #Train travel #Life travel destination

No need to go to Provence or Monet's Garden; right next to the Shenzhen Qianhai International Convention Center, it's as beautiful as an oil painting🎨! The Japanese gardens are also a splendid feature, featuring an authentic Japanese entrance and house. There's also the Bonsai House featuring different types of Bonsai trees. If there's one thing Asians are good at, it's building gardens 🇯🇵 After walking through the enchanted rainforest, we went to the cafe to eat lunch. The cafe has a beautiful view of the greenery and great food! They make the BEST ham & cheese toasted sandwiches, using deli quality leg ham and Swiss cheese. Mummy's not usually one for Swiss cheese, but she says it's one of the BEST ham & cheese toasties she's had! We also had a house-made brownie which was a great dessert. We highly recommend this cafe for a good lunch after exploring the gardens 🥪 #familyfun #familytrip #familytravel #travel2026 #travel #naturalwonders #thingstodo

For a good part of our visit it was raining, but we're telling you, gardens in the rain are an underrated beautiful sight. There's something so beautiful about rain, especially when you observe it in a garden with greenery and/or colourful flowers🌧️ There were some beautiful lakes and ponds, including one with actual lily pads (Also known as water lilies)!🍀 We strolled through the beautiful fern room, and we didn't know how many different types of ferns there were! As you see in some of the photos, they have labels usually with a Latin name, followed by a description of what they are and where they come from🌿 But the biggest attraction, and easily a favorite, is the Tropical Dome. It's absolutely beautiful! Lots of lovely trees and plants with a picturesque pond in the middle. The dome is huge, and definitely a must-see when visiting, with all its botanical beauty☘️ #thingstodo #naturalwonders #travel #familytravel #familytrip #familyfun #travel2026
