Unreal beauty at Changbaishan!

I went to the North gate of ChangBaiShan on a very cold day near the end of December. It was too windy so they weren’t letting tourists go up to Tianchi Lake, but the visit was still very much worth it. A bus takes you 50 minutes to a viewing area for the famous hot springs and waterfalls. The waterfalls were frozen, which was stunning. You can walk up stairs to the viewing platform, which takes 10-15 minutes depending on how often you stop for photos or how slowly you walk in the snow. You can pay to take a snow mobile up, but it’s really not necessary unless you have mobility issues. There are other photo-op attractions like boiling eggs in the hot spring, tossing water in the air to form a snow arch, or riding a wooden sled. Snacks and hot beverages are also available to purchase. Then, the bus will take you back down the mountain with stops at various viewing areas like Small Tianchi Lake, another pool of water with waterfall, and the underground forest. The walk through the forest was calm and beautiful with everything blanketed in snow. Take the time to enjoy the nature with all your senses! (don’t just think about getting a cute photo.) It’s a wondrous experience!

Changbai Mountain

Located at the bouncer between China and North Korean, Changbai Mountain is one of the most scenic and famous mountain in the northeastern China. Changbai Mountain is huge and can be divided into four parts. The north, south, and west part are located in China and the east part is in North Korean. The west part is most convenient since the airport is located there. There are also lots of resorts for skiing and vocations. The north part is accessible by rail, while the south part needs a car to get to. The core part of Changbai Mountain is the Tianchi, which is located at the top of the mountain and is very beautiful

A unique experience in China

The Puppet Emperors palace is must visit if you are visiting the far north east of China. This was the seat of Manchuria government for a short time and the home of the Puppet emperor. This building is incredibly well preserved and looked after. So often historic buildings in China are refurbished too much, leaving behind less of the history. However, you really get a feel from the palace that it has been left almost untouched since it was abandoned all those years ago. Parking and tickets is easy. There is a large parking lot next to the attraction and we needed passports and health codes to get tickets in the ticket office on the day. There is also a metro station very nearby. The palace is not far from the city and relatively easy to get to. I have heard that it can get very busy, however, the twice I have been it has been very quiet. There are often lots of large tour groups but we just try to avoid them and visit different rooms. The palace is a really interesting place to spend half a day and learn about some more recent political history in China. A very unique experience in China.
