The afterglow is so strong that when I got home and saw the evening glow, I instinctively opened the window looking for the colorful mountains😭✨ Who understands! In July, Zhangye avoids the scorching noon heat of the Hexi Corridor. The 24℃ evening breeze mixed with the sweet scent of Gobi apricots and Li Guang apricots slips into your collar. The colorful mountains, ancient passes, and grasslands come together to form a half-frame Silk Road masterpiece. A week after returning, I even want to squeeze out some of that Danxia-style honey sweetness when peeling oranges. My mind is full of the scattered light leaking from the Buddha caves carved into the cliffs at Mati Temple! · ----- 🌈1. The Danxia colorful rock mountains are so hot they burn your shoe soles, plus the dry, hot Gobi wind carries fine sand that sneaks into your collar for a brutal roasting experience! A real July summer experience in Zhangye | Holding freshly bought apricot peel tea, I hadn’t even walked 100 meters before the steam made the flavor heavy. After stepping on countless colorful gravel, red sand filled my hiking shoes, but I still had to capture the rainbow Danxia glowing golden under the sunset, plus the Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon where the wind sweeps eagles low past the ocher rock cliffs and crevices 🗻 Who understands, family! Just after biting into freshly bought milk egg fermented rice at the Danxia viewing platform, before the sweet aroma even settled, the Gobi hot wind blew fine sand into my mouth, making my teeth grit. I opened the ride-hailing app to book a car and rush back to the city to collapse in an air-conditioned rental. Then I looked up and saw the orange-red sunset soaking the entire colorful hills in molten gold. Even the camel grass sprouting from the rock cracks was edged in warm light. If you want to detour to Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon, you won’t have to squeeze into a shuttle bus full of sand. You can stop anytime to pick fresh Li Guang apricots hidden by the roadside. Visit the centre of China and travel to the Rainbow Mountains in 📍Zhangye, Gansu Province! We saw this amazing natural site on our Silk Road Tour 🙌✨️⭐️ 📖 Our tour guide shared the story of how the Rainbow Mountains became a tourist attraction. A boy was visiting his uncle and followed him around as there was not much to do in the town. One day the uncle took his nephew to the mountains and the nephew took some photos of the rainbow rock formations. The nephew was a journalist and when he returned home he published his photos in the newspaper. 📽 Readers were amazed and interested. Famous Chinese film maker Zhang Yimou (director of Beijing 2008 Olympics opening) also featured the rainbow mountains in his film A Simple Noodle, further showcasing the beauty of the natural site. And thats how the Rainbow Mountains became a tourist site! 🌈 We hopped on and off a bus which took us to each platform to view the amazing mountains. We saw vivid colours of red, orange, yellow, and blue. Purple, green, and grey are also present but hidden to the eye as it has not rained in a long time! Platform 3 had the best views! 💲Admission cost is about 74 yuan for park entrance and hop on/off bus (approx $11 USD/ $19 NZD). Super reasonable price for a geographical park rated as the top 10 by National Geographic! Make sure you pack some sunglasses and a hat, the sun is super bright outside!
