📍Doyo Address: 148-121 Cheonghak-dong, Yeongdo-gu, Busan Hours: Weekdays 12:00-21:00, Weekends 11:00-22:00 As you wind your way up the steep hills of Yeongdo, a striking red brick building suddenly catches your eye. 🧱🌊 Doyo, which appears to be a stylishly remodeled old house, features expansive windows on all sides, offering an unrivaled panoramic view of the blue sea from the neighborhood's highest point. The refreshing ocean vista unfolding before you is so captivating it makes the strenuous climb completely worth it. This spot is renowned not only for its stunning scenery but also for its refined and elegant Korean-style desserts. 🍵 They serve items like Yakgwa Patbingsu (shaved ice with honey cookies) and individual honey cookies, all beautifully plated to satisfy both your eyes and your palate. I was particularly impressed by the 'Matcha Yakgwa'—the bitter notes of the matcha paired perfectly with the sweet honey cookie. Gazing at the open sea with a sweet treat in hand, all your daily stresses seem to melt away for a moment. If you're looking to escape the crowded, generic mega-cafes in Busan and want a quiet, atmospheric ocean view, I highly recommend Doyo. 💯👍 There is no better place to enjoy a peaceful moment of 'water-gazing' in a cozy hilltop setting. For a truly relaxing and unique dessert experience during your Busan trip, this is a must-visit!

🌿Reedy Joy Jiangxi Cuisine (Honyu City First Store) A more refined, atmospheric Jiangxi dining experience with a wabi-sabi, rustic vibe. The bamboo and pottery decor makes for great photos. You can choose between "Nanjing spicy" or "Jiangxi spicy," making it beginner-friendly. The signature Nanchang taro beef pot features creamy, melt-in-your-mouth taro and tender beef; the sauce is perfect for mixing with rice—you'll want to polish off 2 bowls. The Ningdu chestnut three-cup chicken arrives bubbling at the table; the chestnuts are sweet, and the chicken is coated in a rich, savory sauce. They also have beautiful desserts and fruit drinks. Perfect for dates or group meals, with thoughtful plating—ideal for those who care about both environment and taste. 🔥Ganlaobiao Jiangxi Stir-fry (Nanjing First Store) Pure, authentic, wok-fired stir-fry. They focus on high-heat, made-to-order dishes—no pre-made food here. It has that original, street-side Jiangxi restaurant vibe. The stir-fried pork intestine with sour cabbage and the stir-fried pork with smoked bamboo shoots are must-orders; they're spicy and satisfying. Pair them with a clay pot soup to warm your stomach and balance the heat. The rice is fluffy and fragrant, and the price per person is reasonable. Great for foodies looking to feast, and the go-to spot if you're craving hardcore, authentic Jiangxi stir-fry. 🌶️Zhuochunni Chili Stir-fried Beef Jiangxi Cuisine (Jingfeng Center Store) A popular Jiangxi restaurant in Jiangning, and their signature chili stir-fried beef is legendary! They use fresh ribeye paired with Yugan chili, stir-fried over high heat for 8 seconds to lock in the tenderness. The fresh, spicy flavor hits you instantly—a total rice-killer. The soybean-braised chicken feet fall right off the bone, and the Ningdu three-cup chicken is rich and savory. Located in a mall, the environment is clean and fresh. If you're shopping at Jingfeng and craving spice, head straight here. The Jiangxi flavors are consistent, making it a top choice for small gatherings with friends.

During my visit to Ningdu County, Jiangxi Province, I had the pleasure of exploring the famous Danxia mountain and cultural landmark, Cuiwei Peak Scenic Area. This is a national 4A-level tourist attraction and a provincial-level scenic spot. Known for its perilous peaks, strange rocks, secluded valleys, and beautiful springs, it is a famous mountain that integrates Taoist, Confucian, hermit, and revolutionary history. The highest peak in the scenic area, Cuiwei Peak, stands at an elevation of over 468 meters. Climbing to the top offers a panoramic view of Ningdu County and the famous Twelve Peaks of Jinjing. The peaks are steep and rugged, with endless imagery—some resemble fierce and majestic lions, others look like galloping horses with manes flying, and some appear as ships riding the wind and waves. Jinjing Cave, nestled between two mountains, is also known as a "grotto heaven" because it is said that Zhang Liying, a woman from the Western Han Dynasty, practiced Taoism and attained immortality there. Notably, the Battle of Cuiwei Peak, which took place here from August to September 1949, was the largest mountain siege battle south of the Yangtze River during the War of Liberation. The mountain retains numerous battle sites, including bunkers, fortress walls, and trenches, which serve as constant reminders not to forget the heroes who performed meritorious service for the people, and especially not to forget the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of New China. Take a walk through Cuiwei Peak, and you will surely be impressed by this Danxia mountain, with its breathtaking natural scenery and profound cultural heritage.

No wonder so many people come from far and wide, even though it's tucked away in an alley! The live singers are truly top-notch. When they play popular tracks, the whole place sings along—it's just like being at a mini concert, the atmosphere is electric. They specialize in Jiangxi-style comfort food, and the flavors are spot on. The Ningdu three-cup chicken is plump, tender, and smooth with a sweet aftertaste; the pork jowl with fig bits is thick and springy, coated in the unique aroma of figs, making it the perfect pairing for a drink; the skewers are full of smoky flavor, and the more you eat, the better they taste.

Weekend itineraries for a fun National Day getaway without taking leave 01 Hohhot | Inner Mongolia Leave Friday after work, return Sunday night—the timing is perfect. The Laoniuwan Yellow River Grand Canyon Tourist Area is best visited early Saturday morning; it's about a 2-hour drive from the city center. ⏰ Arrive before 10:00 AM for the best light on the water. It's windy by the canyon, so don't skip the jacket. The Chilechuan Grassland Cultural Tourism Area is close to the city, perfect for Sunday afternoon. 📍 The area around Huheta East Street has wide-open grasslands; rent a bike and cruise around. 🍜 Back in the city, have some shaomai with brick tea—one liang is enough to fill you up. ⚠️ Some observation decks at Laoniuwan have steep steps, so wear non-slip shoes. Prices at horse ranches on the grassland vary wildly; ask about the duration before paying. 02 Nanjing | Jiangsu Nanjing is a top choice for a quick weekend trip, but don't overdo it. Visit the Presidential Palace and Xuanwu Lake on the same day; they're connected by Metro Line 2. ⏰ Get to the Presidential Palace right when it opens at 8:30 AM; it gets crowded with tour groups after 10:00 AM. ⚠️ It's closed on Mondays, so don't waste a trip. Save the Confucius Temple-Qinhuai Scenic Area for the evening. 📍 Walk from Pingjiangfu Road to Dongguantou—the moment the lights come on is worth the wait. 🍜 Look for small shops in the alleys for duck blood vermicelli soup; the ones on the main tourist street are expensive and mediocre. Dedicate half a day to the Niushoushan Cultural Tourism Area; the underground palace of the Usnisa Pagoda is stunning. If it's your first time, follow the "West Gate entrance—Underground Palace—Usnisa Pagoda" route; don't do it in reverse. Stay in the Xinjiekou or Confucius Temple area for easy night tours and transfers. 03 Baoji | Shaanxi This Baoji route is perfect for those who want to hike or just relax. Choose between Taibai Mountain and Guanshan Grassland, depending on your energy levels. ⏰ Enter Taibai Mountain at 7:00 AM and head back down before 3:00 PM—don't linger. Half a day is enough for the Famen Temple Cultural Scenic Area; the Namaste Dagoba is the highlight. 📍 Located in Famen Town, Fufeng County; it's actually closer from Xi'an than from downtown Baoji. 🍜 Back in the city, have some ganmianpi (dried noodle skin)—it's sour and spicy—with a meat burger (roujiamo). Guanshan Grassland is great for seniors and kids; the meadows are gentle. Negotiating horse riding down to about 80 yuan is reasonable. "Frozen Mountain Wind" (Dongshanfeng) sounds cold, but it's actually a great spot for sunset. ⚠️ It cools down quickly in the evening, so bring a fleece jacket. 04 Ganzhou | Jiangxi Shicheng and Sanbai Mountain—one for the villages, one for the water. Shicheng is great for Saturday; the Danxia landforms of Tongtianzhai paired with the morning mist are beautiful. ⏰ Arrive at the observation deck by 6:30 AM, or the mist will clear. 📍 The villages around Qinjiang Town, Shicheng County, have the most vibrant "autumn drying" (shaqiu) scenes in October. Visit Sanbai Mountain on Sunday; the water at the source of the Dongjiang River is incredibly clear. ⚠️ The shuttle bus inside the scenic area costs extra; buy a joint ticket in advance to save time. 🍜 Ganzhou stir-fried fish and Ningdu three-cup chicken are well-made in city restaurants. Stay in Zhanggong District to explore Zao'er Lane and the Ancient Floating Bridge at night. For your first visit, follow the "Shicheng—Stay in Ganzhou—Sanbai Mountain" route to avoid backtracking. 05 Anshun | Guizhou The Huangguoshu Waterfall and Dragon Palace are the twin highlights of Anshun. ⏰ Enter the Huangguoshu scenic area at 7:00 AM, head straight for the Great Waterfall, and visit Doupotang before noon. ⚠️ You'll get wet in the Water Curtain Cave; buy a raincoat on-site for 5 yuan—don't bring an umbrella. Take a boat into the cave at Dragon Palace; the reflections of the stalactites look like a fake photo. 📍 Located in Longgong Town, Xixiu District; it's about a 40-minute taxi ride from the city. 🍜 Anshun wrapped rolls (guojuan) and crispy buns (posubao) are concentrated around Gufu Street. Staying in downtown Anshun is more cost-effective than staying at the scenic area entrance, and you can have hot pot (laoguo) at night. If traveling with seniors, skip the second half of Tianxingqiao—there are too many steps. Check official announcements for ticket prices and opening hours on the day of your visit. 06 Enshi | Hubei The Enshi Grand Canyon and Shennongxi Stream Tracker Cultural Tourism Area—one is tough on the legs, the other is a feast for the eyes. ⏰ Enter the Grand Canyon at 7:30 AM; walk the Yunlong Ground Fissure first, then head up to Qixingzhai. ⚠️ There are steps throughout the entire route; think twice if you have bad knees. At Shennongxi, you can take a boat to see the trackers; it's mostly a performance now, so don't set your expectations too high. 📍 Located in Yanduhe Town, Badong County; it's a long drive from Enshi, so set aside a full day. Visit the Enshi Tusi City and the Enshi Qingjiang River on the same day; Tusi City takes two hours, and you can take a boat on the Qingjiang River to see the scenery on both banks. 🍜 Look for Zhangguan Hezha and Tujia oil tea soup around Hangkong Road in the city. Stay in the Wuyangba area for convenient dining and transfers. 07 Shuozhou | Shanxi Shahu Pass is the most worthwhile trip in Shuozhou. ⏰ Arrive after 4:00 PM; the sunset hitting the rammed-earth city walls creates the richest colors. 📍 Shahu Pass Village, Youyu County; driving yourself is the most convenient way, as public transport is a hassle. It's so windy here it can blow your hat off, so ⚠️ bring a windbreaker in spring and autumn. Tickets aren't expensive, but there are few dining options nearby, so bring your own water and snacks. Suitable for those who like a desolate vibe; not really suitable for children. Back in downtown Shuozhou, have a bowl of sheep offal soup (yangzaguo) to warm your stomach. For your first visit, navigate to "Shahu Pass Scenic Area" to avoid ending up at the old village. 08 Shizuishan | Ningxia Shahu is the star attraction of Shizuishan, where the desert and water meet for a striking contrast. ⏰ Enter the park before 9:00 AM; take a boat to Bird Island first, then explore the desert area. 📍 Shahu Tourist Area, Pingluo County; it's about an hour from Yinchuan. 🍜 Food inside the scenic area is expensive and mediocre; we recommend heading back to Dawukou District for cold noodles (liangpi) and hand-grabbed mutton. ⚠️ The UV rays in the desert area are strong, so don't be lazy with sunscreen. If traveling with kids, try sand sliding and camel riding; couples should take a boat ride at sunset to see the reeds. It's crowded during the National Day holiday, so buy boat tickets online in advance. Stay in Dawukou District for an easy return trip the next day. These eight routes are perfect for a weekend. Pick one close to you and head out after work on Friday.

Students and young professionals, save this now ✨ 📍Ganzhou, Jiangxi | A living Song Dynasty city Avoid the crowds of Nanchang. This is a living Song Dynasty city with large areas open for free. It's less commercialized and has fewer tourists, making it perfect for budget travelers who love nature. 🚄Transport: High-speed rail to Taining Station. The town is small; use taxis or buses to get around. 🏨Accommodation: Homestays in town are just over 100 yuan. Try to choose local, long-standing shops for beef. ✨Mid-Autumn budget travel tips 1. Prioritize staying in the city center and avoid homestays in scenic areas to save a significant amount on holiday premiums. 2. Only plan 1–2 activities per day. Leave time to gaze at the moon and relax; avoid "special forces" style travel. 3. Prioritize visiting free old streets, riverfronts, and parks. Only choose paid attractions that you are truly interested in. 4. Avoid "internet-famous" restaurants when eating. Head into residential areas to find authentic flavors and save money. Mid-Autumn travel is all about a relaxed atmosphere. By avoiding the crowds, you can still have a wonderful holiday.

Listen to my advice, everyone! Ganzhou in September and October is seriously underrated 😭 The autumn air is crisp and clear, the breeze is gentle, there are fewer crowds, the scenery is beautiful, and prices are incredibly low! As the largest city in Jiangxi Province yet the most underrated, it hides a thousand-year-old Song Dynasty town, the wonders of Hakka walled villages, and stunning Danxia autumn forests—and the best part is, most attractions are free. This post is a complete summary of the pitfalls and treasures I discovered during my four-day trip! 🗺️ How to get there? See here Day 1|Song Dynasty Town Cultural Walk Wake up naturally and head straight to Zao'er Alley. This 227-meter-long ancient alley preserves Hakka residential architecture from the Ming, Qing, and Republican periods, and the cracks in the bluestone slabs are filled with the everyday life of old Ganzhou. The alleyways aren't overly commercialized trendy shops; instead, you'll find decades-old tailor shops and handcrafted bamboo ware stores. Find a 30-year-old Ganzhou restaurant, order freshly made stuffed tofu and stir-fried fish, and slowly enjoy your meal by the courtyard – this is the daily life of old Ganzhou residents. Walk a few hundred meters east from the alley entrance to the Jianchun Gate Floating Bridge. Many tourists just take a photo on the bridge and leave. It's recommended to wait until evening, when the sunset paints the river golden-red. Sit on the floating bridge and watch the old men fishing and children chasing each other. As night falls and the lights on the opposite bank illuminate the city walls, you can truly experience the slow pace of life ingrained in the people of Ganzhou. In the evening, stroll through the Jiangnan Song City historical and cultural district, taking photos of the illuminated pavilions and towers, as if traveling back a thousand years. Day 2 | Tongtianyan + Hakka Walled Village Exploration In the morning, visit Tongtianyan, the largest grotto complex in Jiangnan. The Danxia landform combined with cliff carvings is breathtaking. In the afternoon, we visited the Longnan Guanxi Hakka Round House, a classic example of a Hakka round house with an exquisite layout of "nine buildings and eighteen halls." Early autumn sunlight streamed through the courtyards, casting warm dappled patterns on the bluestone slabs. Strolling through the house, we saw the tall walls reflecting the shadows of the autumn trees, every corner exuding a rustic charm blending with nature. For dinner, we returned to the city for authentic Gannan cuisine: Three-Cup Chicken, Braised Pork Belly, and Fish Cake Soup. A very satisfying meal for about 50 yuan per person. Day 3 | Autumn Colors of Yangming Lake In September and October, Yangming Lake perfectly blends the freshness and tranquility of early autumn in Gannan. A boat trip on the lake offers views of the layered mountains and swirling mists on both sides, and you might even spot egrets fluttering in the air. The Gannan Arboretum by the lake, with its more than 1,300 species of trees gradually turning autumnal, adds a touch of romance to the autumn scenery. Day 4 | Leisurely Stroll and Eat on the Way Back Sleep in late, then get up early to experience the vibrant local atmosphere of Ganzhou at a breakfast shop on Dongjiao Road. Order a bowl of mixed rice noodles with a clay pot soup – the soul of a local breakfast. After shopping, buy some souvenirs, like Nan'an roast duck and Hakka rice wine, and leisurely head back. 🍜 A Taste Only Locals Can Find Ganzhou locals wake up to a bowl of Anyuan Three Delicacies Rice Noodles 🍜 Lao Yang Anyuan Three Delicacies Rice Noodles is hidden in a residential alley next to the Weifuli Market. A 36-year-old establishment, their authentic Anyuan handmade thin rice noodles are chewy and smooth. The broth, made with pork bones, free-range chicken, and dried scallops, is simmered overnight to create a rich and flavorful base. The pork liver is freshly sliced and has no unpleasant smell. The noodles are stir-fried over high heat, giving them a wonderful wok hei (wok aroma). The local breakfast formula: any kind of rice noodles/noodles + a bowl of clay pot soup – this is the taste etched into the DNA of Ganzhou people. Gannan-style stir-fried fish is a must-try, a true soul dish. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a tangy and spicy flavor, it's so delicious you can't stop eating it for just 30 yuan a serving. For authentic home-style flavors, head to Grandma Liu's Private Stir-Fry, hidden on the first floor of a residential building at No. 116 Zao'er Lane. A 30-year-old establishment, the grandma and her husband personally cook their signature stir-fried fish, enhanced with aged vinegar for a crispy exterior and tender interior. It's all thanks to word-of-mouth recommendations from local gourmets; the alley is so deep it's hard to find even with navigation. Ningdu meatballs are a must-try! Hand-pounded meatballs are bouncy, smooth, and chewy. Xinfeng radish dumplings are made with translucent sweet potato flour wrappers filled with sweet local white radish and fresh meat, steamed in bamboo steamers until soft, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Also try the vinegar-braised pork intestines, a tangy and spicy dish that's incredibly appetizing. The intestines are exceptionally tender and have an amazing texture – highly recommended. Pork belly wrapped in rice flour is a staple dish at Gannan Hakka banquets. Local pork is wrapped in rice flour and steamed until oily but not greasy, a century-old flavor. Xingguo's "Four Stars Gazing at the Moon" features fresh grass carp served with handmade rice noodles, the fish infused with a spicy and flavorful sauce—a top choice for locals' autumn and winter gatherings. Autumn in Ganzhou is also a feast for the senses. Gannan navel oranges, Xunwu tangerines, Nankang pomelos, Yudu persimmons… the aroma of fruit fills the mountains and streets, each bite bursting with the unique sweetness of autumn. 🏨 Where to stay conveniently? The Zhanggong Old Town is the most popular accommodation area for tourists. Centered around Bajingtai, Yugutai, and the ancient city wall, it covers most of the places you'd like to visit within a three-kilometer radius. Mid-range hotels cost around 200 RMB per night on weekdays, suitable for weekend travelers with limited time who still want to explore, foodies, and those who prefer a relaxed pace. The riverside promenade is ideal for those seeking photogenic views and comfortable walks. The confluence of the Zhangjiang and Gongjiang rivers offers stunning night and morning views, attracting many locals for weekend strolls. Standard river-view rooms cost between 200 and 400 RMB on weekdays. If your main goal is the surrounding scenic areas, mid-range chain hotels around Ganzhou West Railway Station cost 200-300 yuan per night. The rooms are newer and more standardized, suitable for catching early trains or arriving late at night. My suggestion is to stay in the old city or riverside area for the first two nights, and near the West Railway Station for the last night. This way, you can experience the city while minimizing the stress of catching your train. 📸 Several photogenic spots The flower border along the Zhangjiang River grows at the foot of the ancient city wall and beside the pedestrian walkway. There are no entrance fees or fences. Cosmos and verbena spread along the curve of the riverbank, in pink, purple, and white hues, perfectly capturing the sunset's glow. Every shot is a masterpiece. Jinjizhai Park is a hidden gem in Ganzhou. Ancient pavilions and bamboo groves complement each other beautifully. The stream is so clear you can see schools of fish. Arriving before 9 am when the morning light is soft is perfect for photography. A 15-minute walk along the stone path leads to the mountaintop viewing platform, offering a truly healing panoramic view of the bamboo forest. Qishanbei Red Sand Ridge, nestled in Xinwei Village, Shashi Town, Zhanggong District, is known as "Little Northwest of Ganzhou" by tourists. Rolling, ochre-red sand dunes stretch to the horizon, their surface displaying a gradient from orange-red to deep red when sunlight shines on them. Wearing light-colored clothing creates a striking contrast with the red dunes. At sunset, the entire ridge is bathed in golden-red hues, a scene more captivating than an oil painting. The lakeside viewing platform at Bajing Park offers a dreamlike view as sunlight spills onto the lake's surface. The ancient-style corridor is a perfect backdrop for photos in Hanfu (traditional Han clothing). In the autumn morning light, the Ganzhou Song Dynasty City Wall filters through the newly yellowing leaves, dappling the bricks with delicate light. The ancient floating bridge over the Gongjiang River sways gently with the water, creating a scene imbued with a fresh and vibrant spirit. ⚠️ Avoid these pitfalls (read carefully!) Never touch the cheapest tours! Some tour groups offer ridiculously low prices, almost at cost, which can easily lead to forced shopping, brainwashing marketing, poor food and accommodation, and a completely ruined travel experience. Choose a reputable travel agency, sign a formal contract, and never trust low-price advertisements. Don't hire unlicensed guides at the entrance of scenic spots. Some people have encountered tours led by people without tour guide licenses who provide perfunctory explanations and overcharge. Licensed guides will proactively show their credentials. Be careful when taking photos at Hongshaling. The red sand is soft and slippery, so be sure to wear non-slip shoes. Don't run on the steep edges of the sand dunes. There may be snakes and insects in the woods, so try to stay on the main routes. Tongtianyan and other popular attractions are overcrowded during holidays. It's recommended to travel during off-peak times, going early in the morning or late in the afternoon for a much better experience. Don't just look at the description of accommodation as "5 minutes walk to the attraction." This description assumes the fastest straight-line distance. A more reliable description is "within one kilometer of the attraction," about a 15-minute walk, which is less tiring and allows you to enjoy the scenery along the way. Rooms near the pedestrian street and food street are quite noisy until 11 or 12 at night, so light sleepers should avoid them. Finally, let me tell you the truth: the beauty of Ganzhou isn't in those must-see lists, but in that moment after finishing a bowl of Sanxian noodles, strolling slowly along the ancient city wall, watching the sunset turn the river golden on the floating bridge. Listen to my advice, everyone! A piece of honest advice before you stay in Ganzhou: don't try to save money by staying too far out in September. The old town area—Jiangnan Song City, Yugu Terrace, Zao'er Lane, and the Ancient City Wall—are all clustered together. It's best to just walk around and grab some rice noodles at night without needing a taxi. You can snag small hotels around Nanmenkou and Junmenlou for about CNY 150–200. It's an easy walk to Song Dynasty Night City and Bajing Terrace. If you want something newer, head to the Zhangjiang New District near MixC or Jiufang. The AC is newer, elevators are faster, and there are plenty of food delivery options. Comfortable hotels run CNY 200–350, while upscale lake-view rooms are CNY 350+. When booking on Trip.com, checking the cancellation policy is more important than looking at the photos. I once booked a non-refundable room to save money, and when my itinerary changed, it was a disaster.💔 I almost cried at my own stupidity when it came to dining.🙃 Gannan-style stir-fried fish is the soul of the local cuisine—grass carp that's pan-fried and then simmered in a sour and spicy sauce. Old-school restaurants in the city center average CNY 40–50 per person, with individual dishes ranging from CNY 20–38. Pairing it with a clay pot soup for CNY 6–10 is a great deal. Ningdu Three-Cup Chicken is about CNY 58, and the Xingguo rice noodle fish dish "Four Stars Watching the Moon" is about CNY 46—fresh, spicy, and flavorful. If you don't eat spicy food, ask for "mild" in advance, or Jiangxi-style spice will make you question your life choices.🌶️ Hakka stuffed tofu is a dozen or so per plate—tender tofu stuffed with meat, pan-fried and braised—and it's mild-friendly. Don't miss the mixed rice noodles or Anyuan three-fresh rice noodles for breakfast. They're CNY 7–10 a bowl, and adding an egg makes it even more filling. Huangyuan rice cakes, lamp cakes, and douba snacks are great for munching, and you can get a bunch for around CNY 10. Navel oranges aren't at their sweetest in September, so I honestly don't recommend making a special trip to an orchard to pick them; wait until late October for a better experience. For regular fruit, buy it near local markets and don't get scammed by "specialty gift boxes" at tourist attraction entrances. Don't cram all the attractions into one go. Most spots like Jiangnan Song City, Yugu Terrace, Bajing Terrace, the Ancient City Wall, Zao'er Lane, Wei Family Courtyard, and Fushou Ditch require free reservations. Song Dynasty Night City is most photogenic when the lanterns light up at night—you'll be happy even when your legs get tired from walking.🏮 For the Tongtian Rock cliff carvings, tickets are CNY 55, with half-price for students. There's plenty of shade, but the steps are exposed to the sun. Going at noon in September will be miserable, so I suggest going in the morning and leaving after 2 hours. The Ancient Floating Bridge is free. It's super relaxing to catch the breeze and look out over the Gong River in the evening. Wear non-slip shoes; the bluestone slabs are like ice after the rain. I wore leather shoes the first time and almost did a split.😅 If you're traveling with kids or as a couple and want to do activities, Fantawild Oriental Heritage tickets are CNY 280 for adults and CNY 129 for teens, and the Circus City is CNY 59. Don't try to do everything in one day—the lines and the sun will wear you out. If the Fantawild water park is open, plan that separately. If you have extra time, head to Anyuan Sanbai Mountain. Package tickets start at CNY 145 and include the glass bridge, cable car, and boat ride. It's cooler in the mountains, but the drive is long, so don't treat it like a casual city-center attraction. I wrote these September tips based on my own mistakes.🌞 Check the weather forecast—it's usually 31–33°C, but it can feel like 35+°C. Don't force yourself to walk the open-air city wall in the afternoon. If you don't bring the "three essentials"—sun protection, a small fan, and water—you're just asking for trouble. Bring a folding umbrella for rainy days, as the old town alleys get slippery. Wear sneakers, not thick-soled new shoes, or your feet will revolt after 3 days of walking.👟 Check opening hours in advance when buying tickets on Trip.com. Some venues require reservations, and you might waste a trip if you try to buy tickets on-site. Parking in the old town is tight. If you're staying in Song City, don't drive into the alleys; taking a taxi to the entrance is the easiest way. If you stay in the new district, it's only a 10-to-15-minute drive into the city. If you have a sensitive stomach, don't challenge yourself with spicy Ganzhou food at every meal. Order the stir-fried fish "mild" and stick to clay pot soups so you won't regret it later. Overall, for a 3-day, 2-night trip, excluding random purchases, accommodation is around CNY 200. Dining is CNY 50–80 per person. Tickets depend on what you do. A light tour of Song City costs almost nothing in ticket fees. It's really great value.✨

Everyone! Just got back from Ganzhou, and I have to highly recommend it: this "Jiangnan Song Dynasty City" has been seriously underrated for far too long! 😭 When you think of Jiangxi, people only think of Wuyuan, Lushan, and Jingdezhen, but Ganzhou, a national historical and cultural city, boasts the only completely preserved ancient city wall from the Song Dynasty in the country, Yugutai (the site of Xin Qiji's famous poem "Clear River flows beneath Yugutai"), and Tongtianyan (known as the "Number One Grotto in Jiangnan")... Plus, it's affordable; a two-day, one-night trip can be had for just 300-400 RMB per person! I visited all three sections shown on this map, arranged in the order of "Historical Culture—Natural Landscape—Urban Leisure," focusing on avoiding detours and disappointments. For first-time visitors to Ganzhou, here's a sample itinerary: 🗺️【Three Main Sections & Basic Attraction Information】 🏯 Section 1|Historical and Cultural Area (Song Dynasty Heritage, within walking distance) · Yugutai Park (Free): This is the very place described by Xin Qiji's famous line, "Beneath Yugutai flows the clear river, how many tears have been shed by travelers along its banks!" Standing on the platform, you can clearly see the distinct "Mandarin Duck Waters" of the two rivers—it's truly magical. 🌊 · Ancient Floating Bridge (Free): A Huimin Bridge with over 800 years of history, this bridge is made of more than 100 wooden boats linked by iron chains. Walking on it, swaying gently, is one of Ganzhou's most romantic photo spots. ⛴️ · Zao'er Alley (Free): An ancient alley from the Song Dynasty, with bluestone slabs, arcade buildings, and time-honored shops, full of local life. 🏮 · Ganzhou City Museum (Free): Rich in collections, air-conditioned, perfect for escaping the midday sun. 🏛️ ⛰️ Section 2|Natural Landscape Area (Taxi/Driving Required) · Tongtianyan (Entrance fee approx. 60 RMB, approx. 30-minute drive): Known as the "First Grotto in Jiangnan," featuring Danxia landforms, Tang and Song Dynasty cliff carvings, and an ancient temple. The wooden boat + iron chain + river surface create a stunning scene, especially when wearing Hanfu (traditional Han clothing). ⛴️ · Ba Jing Tai (Eight Mirrors Terrace): Stand on the platform to photograph the confluence of the Zhang and Gong rivers – one clear, one murky, the dividing line between the two rivers is clearly visible, incredibly magical. 🌊 · Yugutai: With Xin Qiji's poem stele as a backdrop, wear simple clothes for a scholarly and artistic photoshoot. 📜 · Tongtianyan: Photograph the Danxia red rocks and cliff carvings, or use the light and shadow of the grottoes to create silhouettes for a strong sense of history. 🗿 · Zhangjiang Night View: During the light show, use the ancient city wall as a foreground to photograph the reflection on the river; long exposure creates a more dreamlike effect. 🌃 💡【Practical Tips】 1. Best season: March-May (spring warmth and flowers, terraced fields irrigated) and September-November (crisp autumn air, golden terraced fields); Ganzhou is very hot and humid in summer, so be prepared for heatstroke. 🍂 2. Transportation: Take the high-speed rail to Ganzhou West Station, then a taxi to the old town takes about 30 minutes; attractions in the old town are within walking distance, but for Tongtianyan and Shangbao Terraces, it is recommended to take a taxi or hire a car. 🚗 3. Admission: Almost all attractions in Songcheng are free! This is so considerate; only Tongtianyan and Fantawild require an entrance fee. 🎫 4. Clothing: Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes! The ancient city wall, Zao'er Lane, and Tongtianyan all have stone-paved roads and steps. 👟 5. Time: The ancient floating bridge is most beautiful in the early morning and evening. Midday lighting makes photos unremarkable, so don't choose the wrong time. ⏰ 🚫【A Guide to Avoiding Common Mistakes】 1. Don't book low-priced "Ganzhou day tours," especially those touring Tongtianyan and Shangbao Terraces. They often include shopping stops. Use reputable platforms or hire a private car. 🙅♀️ 2. Don't go to Shangbao Terraces empty-handed: The scenery is less impressive outside the irrigation season (winter is dry). Check the season before you go, otherwise it'll just be an ordinary mountain field. 🌾 3. When eating stir-fried fish, don't just go to trendy restaurants. The home-style restaurants in the old town alleys are more authentic and cheaper. Go to the one with the most locals. 🐟 4. Don't buy "Gannan Navel Oranges/Tea Oil" at the scenic area entrance; they're overpriced. Go to supermarkets or reputable specialty shops in the city center, and make sure they're from the place of origin (Gannan Navel Oranges are best after November). 🍊 5. Be careful on the ancient floating bridge: there are gaps between the wooden boats, so hold your child's hand tightly. The wooden planks are slippery on rainy days. ⚠️ 6. There are tons of mosquitoes in summer, especially along the river and in the mountains. Bring mosquito repellent. 🦟 Okay! Ganzhou is truly a "low-key yet heartbreakingly beautiful" Song Dynasty city 💛. It has thousand-year-old city walls, the Yugu Terrace from poetry, swaying ancient floating bridges, and unforgettable stir-fried fish. The key is that almost all attractions are free, and prices are half that of first-tier cities! Would you rather walk along the ancient Song Dynasty city walls first, or watch the sunset from the ancient floating bridge? Or do you have a hidden gem of a Ganzhou restaurant? Let me know in the comments! 👇 Ganzhou Travel Guide Everyone! Just got back from Ganzhou, and I have to highly recommend it: this "Jiangnan Song Dynasty City" has been seriously underrated for far too long! 😭 When you think of Jiangxi, you only think of Wuyuan, Lushan, and Jingdezhen, but Ganzhou, a national historical and cultural city, boasts the only completely preserved ancient city wall from the Song Dynasty in the country, Yugutai (the site of Xin Qiji's famous poem "Clear River flows beneath Yugutai"), and Tongtianyan ("The First Grotto in Jiangnan")... Plus, the prices are affordable; a two-day, one-night trip can be had for just 300-400 RMB per person! I visited all three sections shown on this map, arranged in the order of "Historical Culture—Natural Landscape—Urban Leisure," focusing on avoiding detours and disappointments. For first-time visitors to Ganzhou, here's a sample itinerary: 🗺️【Three Main Sections & Basic Attraction Information】 🏯 Section 1|Historical and Cultural Area (Song Dynasty Heritage, within walking distance) · Yugutai Park (Free): This is the very place described by Xin Qiji's famous line, "Beneath Yugutai flows the clear river, how many tears have been shed by travelers along its banks!" Climb to the top and overlook the Zhangjiang River; the ancient poem instantly comes to life. 📜 · Ganzhou Ancient City Wall (Free): The only completely preserved Song Dynasty brick city wall in China! Walking along the wall, with over 3600 meters of Song Dynasty bricks beneath your feet and the river flowing outside, you'll feel an overwhelming sense of history. 🧱 · Bajingtai (Free): The confluence of the Zhangjiang and Gongjiang rivers to form the Ganjiang River. Standing on the platform, you can clearly see the distinct "Mandarin Duck Waters" of the two rivers—it's truly magical. Wang Yangming once lectured here. 🗿 · Shangbao Terraces (approx. 1.5-hour drive): One of China's three major terraced fields, mirror-like during the irrigation season and golden in autumn, a photographer's paradise. 🌾 · Sanbaishan (approx. 1.5h drive): Source of the Dongjiang River, featuring waterfalls and primeval forests, a perfect summer retreat for water activities. 💦 · Yangming Lake/Qiyun Mountain/Dayu Yashan: Optional if time permits; each area boasts beautiful scenery and unique features. 🏞️ 🎡 Section 3|Urban Leisure Area (Family-Friendly + Night View) · Fantawild Oriental Dawn (approx. 280 RMB): A red-themed Fantawild attraction, perfect for a whole day of fun with kids. 🎢 · Zhangjiang Riverbanks + City Central Park (Free): Enjoy the evening light show and river breeze for a relaxing stroll. 🌃 · Rongjiang New Area/MixC: A modern commercial district offering one-stop shopping and dining. 🛍️ · Polar Ocean World (Family Option): A favorite among children, indoors and sun-protected. 🐬 🚗【3 Days 2 Nights - Super Convenient Itinerary】 Day 1: A Day Trip Through Song Dynasty Town 🏯 · Morning: Yugutai → Ganzhou Ancient City Wall (walk from the North Gate to Bajingtai) → Bajingtai for the confluence of the two rivers 📜 · Noon: Enjoy snacks at Zao'er Lane, including Ganzhou-style stir-fried fish and Ai Mi Guo (a type of steamed rice cake) 🍜 · Afternoon: Ancient Floating Bridge (stroll and take photos) → Ganzhou Museum 🛶 · Evening: Enjoy the night view and light show along the Zhangjiang River. The lanterns on the ancient city wall illuminate the Song Dynasty atmosphere 🌃 Day 2: Grottoes and Danxia Landforms ⛰️ · Morning: Tongtianyan (approx. 30-minute drive), see cliff carvings, Danxia landforms, and Wang Yangming's inscription 🗿 · Afternoon: If you have the energy, you can take a boat trip on Yangming Lake, or return to the city center to shop at MixC for a cool respite. 🛍️ · Evening: Enjoy an authentic Gannan Hakka meal, with must-try dishes like Three-Cup Chicken and Stuffed Tofu 🍲 Day 3: Terraced Fields or Amusement Park – Choose One 🌾 · Option A (Photography Enthusiasts): A day trip to Shangbao Terraced Fields (approx. 1.5 hours drive). Enjoy the morning mist and evening sunset; the best time is during the irrigation season (April-May, September-October) 📷 · Option B (Families): A full day at Fantawild Oriental Heritage → Polar Ocean World → Return trip ?? Only a weekend? Day 1: Songcheng + Day 2: Tongtianyan – two days to see the highlights! 🏨【Accommodation Selection?】 · First choice: Zhanggong District Old Town (near Yugutai/Bajingtai): The core area of Songcheng, within walking distance of most historical sites, convenient for nighttime views, 150-300 RMB – a lazy person's dream. 🏨 · Value for money: Hotels in the MixC/Rongjiang New Area commercial district, 200-350 RMB, new facilities, convenient parking. 💰 · Families: Stay near Fantawild Adventure, there's a shuttle bus, so you can be among the first to enter the park the next morning without queuing. 🎢 🍜【Must-see for foodies|The irresistible flavors of Gannan Hakka cuisine】 1. Gannan Stir-fried Fish: Ganzhou's signature dish! Grass carp cut into chunks, thickened with vinegar, chili, and potato starch, sour, spicy, and tender. Despite being a "stir-fry," it's as tender as tofu—a must-order! 🐟 2. Three-Cup Chicken: One cup of rice wine, one cup of soy sauce, and one cup of lard, the chicken is braised until fragrant to the bone. Ningdu Three-Cup Chicken is the most authentic. 🍗 3. Stuffed Tofu/Stuffed Chili: A Hakka classic, minced meat stuffed into tofu or chili and pan-fried, bursting with juice in every bite. 🫑 4. Ai Mi Guo (Sticky Rice Dumplings): Made with mugwort and glutinous rice, fragrant and soft, available in both sweet and savory varieties, perfect for spring. 🌿 5. Ganzhou Fish Noodles/Suo Fen (Fish Noodle Soup): The soul of breakfast, rice noodles with fish soup, spicy and appetizing, a bowl to wake you up for the day. 🍜 6. 01 Bijie | Guizhou Bijie impressed me most by perfecting both its "underground" and "above-ground" attractions. 📍 Zhijin Cave: Don't treat this like a typical cave. The full route takes about 2 hours and is one-way, so don't plan on turning back for photos. The most stunning part is the "Bawang Kui" section, where the lighting makes it look like an inverted palace. ⚠️ The cave maintains a constant temperature year-round, so bring a light jacket even in summer. Baili Dujuan is better in spring, when the mountains are covered in waves of pink and white flowers in April. If you only want to see the flowers, don't buy the full sightseeing bus ticket; it's more relaxing to just walk at your own pace. 🚄 It takes about 40 mins by taxi from Bijie Station to Zhijin Cave; carpooling is more cost-effective. 02 Dalian | Liaoning For Dalian, I suggest splitting your trip into "seaside" and "city" routes—don't mix them. Jinshitan National Tourist Resort is worth a full morning. The coastline at the Geopark is more interesting than the beach, with rocks carved into various shapes by the sea. Laohutan Ocean Park is more family-oriented; if you have kids, head straight to the Polar Museum. Get to the dolphin show 30 mins early to grab a seat, or you'll just be looking at the back of people's heads. Tangli Lake Park is where locals go for walks. Arrive at 5:30 PM, and the lake surface will be coated in gold—no need to fight for a photo spot. Xinghai Square looks better at night than during the day; walk along the seaside after the lights come on, with the scent of grilled squid in the sea breeze. ⚠️ Jinshitan is far from the city center, and taxi fares add up, so I recommend taking Metro Line 3. 🍜 Don't order a large portion of seafood noodles at the entrance to the scenic area; the servings are huge. 03 Bayingolin | Xinjiang This area is huge, so I'll give you the highlights: sunset at Bayanbulak, sunrise at Taklamakan, and the Populus euphratica forest at noon. The "Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns" in Bayanbulak has the softest light around 9:30 PM. When the sun touches the horizon, the river shatters into a field of golden scales. ⚠️ The last shuttle bus in the scenic area is at 10:00 PM, so don't get too caught up in taking photos. The Taklamakan Desert is best visited in the early morning before footprints ruin the dune textures. Walking barefoot on the fine, cool sand is amazing. If you want to save energy, ride a camel, but climbing a dune yourself feels 100 times more real than any photo. The Tarim Populus Euphratica Forest Park is most beautiful in late October, when the leaves turn a brilliant yellow. 🚄 The spots are far apart, so I recommend chartering a car; don't count on public transport to connect them. 04 Ganzhou | Jiangxi Ganzhou is an underrated, slow-paced city. I spent two days here: one for Shicheng and one for Sanbai Mountain. Shicheng isn't just a county; it's the ancient village below Tongtianzhai. Arrive before 8:00 AM, when the stone paths are still covered in dew, old wooden doors creak open, and cooking smoke drifts from the roof tiles. 📍 The lotus pond below the fortress is best in summer, but in autumn, the ginkgo tree by the pond is the real star. Sanbai Mountain is better for hiking enthusiasts; the full route takes about 4 hours. At the Dongjiang Source Waterfall on the mountain top, the mist hits your face, and from the observation deck, you can see the entire bamboo sea rolling below. ⚠️ There is a cable car from the foot of the mountain to the halfway point, but you must hike the second half yourself, so be careful if you have bad knees. 🍜 The Ningdu meatballs in downtown Ganzhou are worth a special trip. Springy meatballs with spicy sauce—one bowl will wake you right up. 05 Jixi | Heilongjiang Jixi's obscurity is exactly what makes it so charming. Hutou Town is on the Wusuli River, right across from Russia. Standing on the river embankment, you can see the church spires on the other side, and the river breeze carries the scent of water plants. 📍 You can visit the WWII memorial in town, but I recommend going to the riverbank in the evening to watch the fishing boats return to port, as the sunset dyes the river orange-red. Xingkai Lake has a different vibe; it's so big it feels like the sea, and the sound of waves hitting the shore is no different from the beach. The sand is fine and soft, perfect for walking barefoot. ⚠️ It's very windy by the lake, so bring a windbreaker even in summer. 🚄 It's about a 1-hour drive from Jixi city to Xingkai Lake. There's no direct bus, so I recommend renting or chartering a car. 🍜 The grilled fish stalls by the lake serve fish caught and grilled on the spot, sprinkled with cumin—it smells so good you won't be able to walk past. 06 Yichang | Hubei Yichang is the starting point of the Yangtze Three Gorges, but I don't recommend just staring at the Three Gorges Dam. The best part of the Yangtze Three Gorges is between Wuxia and Xilingxia. Take a cruise; the cliffs on both sides look like they were sliced by a knife, and you can hear echoes in the narrow parts of the river. ⏰ The 9:00 AM boat is the most comfortable, as the river mist hasn't fully cleared and the light is soft. The Three Gorges Tribe scenic area is more like a living folk museum, with stilt houses built against the mountains and boatmen's chants echoing through the valley. 📍 The "Longjin Creek" section in the scenic area has water so clear you can see the texture of the stones—perfect for taking off your shoes and wading. The Three Gorges Waterfall is most spectacular in the rainy season; you'll need a raincoat for the Water Curtain Cave section, or you'll get soaked. Qingjiang Gallery is best visited in the afternoon, with its emerald water reflecting the green mountains on both sides, like a flowing ink wash painting. ⚠️ Yichang's attractions are scattered, so I suggest leaving at least 3 days; don't try to do everything in one day. 07 Changzhi | Shanxi The Taihang Mountains in Changzhi are the most rugged mountain scenery I've ever seen. For Baquan Gorge in the Taihang Mountain Grand Canyon, you must take the cable car up and walk down. The cable car passes through clouds and mist, with a bottomless canyon beneath your feet—if you have a fear of heights, I suggest closing your eyes. The observation deck at the top offers a wide view, where you can see the entire Taihang Mountain range like the spine of a giant dragon. Don't take the same route back down; follow the boardwalk, and you'll pass several waterfalls with roaring water and cool mist hitting your face. 📍 The "Xuanquan" section is the most photogenic, with the waterfall spraying out from a crack in the rock wall like a white silk ribbon hanging in mid-air. The Taihang Mountain Grand Canyon is better for self-driving; the mountain roads have many curves but are in good condition. ⚠️ Go after the rainy season for more water and double the scenery, but some sections may be temporarily closed, so check the scenic area announcements before you set off. 🚄 It's about 1.5 hours from Changzhi city. There are many mountain roads, so take motion sickness medication in advance if you get carsick. 08 Diqing | Yunnan For Diqing, I suggest arranging your trip from low to high altitude to let your body acclimate. Baishuitai is southeast of Shangri-La city. The altitude isn't too high, and the calcified pools are layered like terraces filled with milk. ⏰ Arrive before 10:00 AM; the slanted sunlight makes the water glow with blue-green luster, but it turns whitish after noon. The boardwalk around Shudu Lake in Pudacuo National Park takes about 2 hours to walk. Yaks graze slowly on the meadow, and squirrels will run up to beg for food. ⚠️ Don't feed them; it's against park rules. The sunrise at Songzanlin Monastery is worth waking up early for. As the morning light hits the golden roof, the whole temple seems to emerge from the mist. 📍 The Lamyangcuo Lake in front of the temple has reflections that are clearer than the real thing. Tiger Leaping Gorge is most stunning in the rainy season, when the Jinsha River is squeezed into the narrow canyon, the water roars like thunder, and you can feel the ground shaking from the observation deck. 🚄 There are shuttle buses from Shangri-La to Tiger Leaping Gorge, but return trips are infrequent, so it's best to book a car in advance. Of these eight places, my personal favorites are Bijie and Diqing—one hidden underground, the other suspended in the clouds. How many have you been to? Let's chat in the comments about which one made you feel like "this trip was worth it."

Friends, I really found a gem for short trips around Ganzhou✨ It's only a 30-minute drive from the city 🚗, one push on the gas and you're there Don't want to travel far on the weekend but still want to get out? This is the top pick! 📍About the attraction Xianfeng Valley is on the outskirts of Ganzhou, a hidden eco leisure valley in the mountains🌳 The valley is lush with plants, and when mist rolls in it truly looks like a fairyland! As one of the top-rated 4-star hotels in Ningdu, the Ningdu Cuiwei Hotel perfectly embodies what a "Selected 4-Star" stay should be—delivering excellence in luxury, amenities, and service. 🏨 The rooms are impeccably clean and well-maintained, providing total peace of mind. The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, which makes the whole stay even better. Based on this experience, I’ll definitely make this my first choice for future trips and will be recommending it to my friends. Quick Tip: I recommend waking up early for a stroll around the area and heading up to Cuiwei Mountain. It’s a renowned National AAAA-level scenic spot and a historic Taoist holy site. The surrounding scenery is stunning and absolutely worth the trip. Overall, Ningdu Cuiwei Hotel doesn't just meet the 4-star luxury standard; it offers heartfelt service that makes you feel right at home. If you care about the quality of your stay, be sure to bookmark this one! 👍 _reviewer

As it turns out, Nanjing Jiangning top good food 👍 If you want to eat authentic Jiangxi cuisine in Nanjing, you can just grab the spring mud! The shop is full of fireworks, and the wooden decoration is very textured, which is suitable for friends to gather for dinner. ~ 🥢Fresh and spicy yellow bean grilled chicken legs must try, stewed soft and seasoned, lightly sip the bones, yellow beans absorb full of fresh and spicy soup, super hungry! 🥢Ningdu three cups of chicken is simmered in a casserole, the sauce is rich, with a little wine, the chicken is tender and not woody, the sauce is covered with every piece of meat, the rice is absolutely perfect. 🥢Jiangxi chili stir-fried meat pot is full of flavor, spicy enough, tender meat, a proper rice killer! Finally, there is a Nanchang white sugar cake to finish, crispy on the outside and glutinous on the inside, sweet and soft, just neutralize the spicy taste, refreshing and comfortable. 📍Peck Spring Mud · Chili Stir-fried Beef · Jiangxi Cuisine (Jing Maple Center Store)

Escape the summer heat with these 8️⃣ less crowded and beautiful places: 01 Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture | Yunnan Summer in Dali is cool in the mornings and evenings, requiring a jacket. During the day, the sun shines on Erhai Lake, and the breeze is cool, not the artificial coolness of an air-conditioned room. I suggest staying in Xizhou Ancient Town, avoiding the crowded old town. Xizhou's morning market opens at 7 am; a bowl of rice noodles with fried dough sticks costs only 5 yuan and you'll be stuffed. After eating, stroll along the paddy fields; the rice in August is a vibrant green, with Cangshan Mountain in the background—the view is far more valuable than any trendy cafe. ⏰ After 4 pm, visit the Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple. The sunlight shines obliquely on the pagodas, reflecting in the pool—perfect for photos without filters. The entrance fee is 75 yuan. Note that the Three Pagodas Reflection Pool is on the exit side, so don't leave immediately after visiting. For the Erhai Lake loop, I recommend renting an electric scooter along the western section, from Caicun to Xizhou. The entire route is an ecological corridor, inaccessible to motor vehicles. Along the way, you'll encounter many unnamed flower fields; stop and take photos whenever you feel like it. Nanzhao Folk Island is in Shuanglang; you need to take a boat to get there. When it's crowded, the queue can be at least half an hour. ⚠️ Boat tickets and entrance tickets are bought separately, so don't get scammed by scalpers. If you're short on time, you can skip Shuanglang; the scenery in Haixi alone is enough to keep you entertained for a whole day. 02 Shigatse City | Tibet Going to Shigatse in August is a serious way to escape the heat; the highest temperature here is only slightly above 20 degrees Celsius. But don't assume you can easily see Mount Everest. It takes six hours to drive from the city to Everest Base Camp, climbing to an altitude of 5200 meters along the way. I advise you to stay in Tingri County on your first day to acclimatize, rather than rushing straight to base camp; a headache will prevent you from seeing anything. The Everest entrance ticket is 160 yuan, and you also need to transfer to an eco-friendly bus to enter the mountain; the bus ticket is 120 yuan. ⏰ The best time to see Everest is 7:00 AM, when there are the fewest clouds, and you can see the entire mountain bathed in golden sunlight. Going in the afternoon will basically just show you clouds, and if you're unlucky, even the summit may be hidden. ⚠️ The toilets and tent area at the base camp are basic, so be prepared. Back in the city, visit Tashilhunpo Monastery (entrance fee 55 RMB). This is the Panchen Lama's residence; it's very large, and a visit takes about two hours. The white stupa and red walls are particularly beautiful in the afternoon light. I recommend hiring a guide, otherwise it will just be a rushed experience. Walking the pilgrimage route around the monastery entrance with the locals allows you to feel their daily faith, which is more meaningful than simply taking a photo. 03 Hengshui City | Hebei Hengshui Lake is the largest freshwater lake on the North China Plain. In August, the lotus flowers are in full bloom. Boating through the reeds, the air is filled with the fragrance of lotus leaves. Entrance is free, but boat rides are separate: speedboat 80 RMB per person, hand-rowed boat 60 RMB. I recommend the hand-rowed boat; it's slower, but you can smell the lotus flowers. Speedboats create a lot of splashing water. ⏰ Arriving at the lake around 6 AM is best; the water is misty, and birds are chirping in the reeds. Hengshui Lake is a stopover for migratory birds; egrets and herons can be seen in August. Bring a telephoto lens; your phone won't be able to capture the birds. There's a fish restaurant at the Laoyanhe Wharf in the lake area; their specialty is stewed mixed fish, averaging around 50 yuan per person. The fish is freshly caught from the lake. ⚠️ Weekends are crowded, and there are queues for boats; it's recommended to go on weekdays. There's a cycling path around the lake; renting a bicycle costs 20 yuan per hour, and a complete loop takes about two hours, suitable for families with children. The path is flat with no hills. 04 Shennongjia Forest District | Hubei Summer in Shennongjia is like a natural air-conditioned room, averaging 20 degrees Celsius. A combined ticket is required to enter the scenic area; it costs 269 yuan per person, valid for five days, and includes six smaller scenic areas. If time is limited, I suggest only visiting Shennongding and Dajiuhu. Shennongding is the roof of Central China, at an altitude of 3106 meters; wear a jacket as it's windy. The morning mist at Dajiu Lake is breathtaking, but you must arrive at the transfer center before 6:00 AM to catch the bus, otherwise you'll miss it once the mist dissipates. ⏰ The best time to see the morning mist is between 7:00 and 8:00 AM. There's a small train within the scenic area that stops at each lake. It's recommended to get off at Lake 4 and hike to Lake 5; that section is the most beautiful. ⚠️ Mountain weather is unpredictable. Raincoats are more useful than umbrellas; they cost 15 yuan each at convenience stores, don't buy them for 30 yuan at the scenic area entrance. For accommodation, I recommend Muyu Town, which is close to the scenic area and convenient for dining. There's a wild vegetable restaurant in town that serves stir-fried small potatoes and rice with cured pork; it costs around 40 yuan per person, and locals eat there. Shennongjia is suitable for escaping the summer heat and taking children, but there are many steps, making it difficult to push a stroller. 05 Alxa League | Inner Mongolia The poplar forests of Alxa are exclusively for autumn, but if you go in August, the Badain Jaran Desert is the main attraction. Summer in the desert is indeed hot during the day, but it's cool in the mornings and evenings. Just avoid the period between noon and 3 pm for a completely different experience. The entrance fee to the Badain Jaran Desert is 70 yuan, and an off-road vehicle costs 400 yuan to enter the desert; each vehicle seats four people. The driver takes you on a dune surfing adventure—the feeling of weightlessness is more thrilling than a roller coaster, but some people get motion sickness, so take motion sickness medication beforehand. The lakes deep in the desert are salt lakes; the blue-green water against the yellow sand looks like something out of another world when photographed by a drone. The Populus euphratica forest tourist area is in Ejina Banner. In August, the poplars are still green, but if you want to avoid the crowds during the National Day holiday, seeing the green poplars now offers a different experience. The sunrise at Juyan Lake in Ejina Banner is breathtaking; the entrance fee is 60 yuan. ⏰ Sunrise is around 6:30 am; arrive half an hour early to find a good spot for your photo. Accommodation is in Badain Jaran Town; hotels costing just over 100 yuan a night offer very good conditions. Stargazing in the desert at night, with the Milky Way visible to the naked eye, is a experience no amount of money in the city can buy. 06 Xuzhou City | Jiangsu Province Xuzhou Yunlong Lake is a local's summer retreat. It's free to enter, and the lake is quite large; a complete loop is 10 kilometers. I recommend renting an electric scooter for 60 yuan an hour. ⏰ Go after 6 PM; the lake sparkles with golden light, and the breeze is incredibly refreshing. There's an artificial beach on the east bank of Yunlong Lake, but the sand is very fine, and kids play there until dark. The lakeside park has a free fitness trail; wear sneakers, not flip-flops. There's a Xuzhou Museum nearby, free, but closed on Mondays, so be careful not to go there empty-handed. The museum exhibits Han Dynasty stone carvings, worth spending an hour seeing. For food, go to the street opposite Kaiyuan Mingdu by the lake; there are several restaurants serving stewed chicken in a clay pot, around 50 yuan per person. The flatbread dipped in the soup with the stewed chicken is absolutely delicious. 🍜 Xuzhou is famous for its barbecue, but not the large skewers popular online; it's small skewers, grilled until dry and fragrant. Peak hours are after 10 PM, with queues starting at half an hour. Yunlong Lake is suitable for evening walks, playing in the sand with children, and cycling in the breeze. It's not recommended to go during the midday heat; without shade, you'll be unbearably sunburned. 07 Ganzhou City | Jiangxi Province Ganzhou is a Hakka-populated area. Visiting in August offers a cool respite from the summer heat and allows you to experience the Hakka walled village culture. Sanbaishan is the source of the Dongjiang River, with extremely high forest coverage and numerous waterfalls in its canyons. The temperature is five or six degrees Celsius lower than in the city. Entrance fee is 85 yuan, sightseeing bus is 20 yuan. ⏰ Morning is the best time to visit, as the light in the canyons is good, and you can capture rainbows at the waterfalls. The glass sky bridge at Sanbaishan is a popular attraction, but those with a fear of heights should avoid it; there are alternative mountain paths. The boardwalk is gentle and suitable for both the elderly and children. After descending the mountain, visit Shicheng (not the famous Stone City, but Shicheng County in Ganzhou), famous for its lotus flowers. In August, the lotus flowers in Shicheng County are in full bloom, covering tens of thousands of acres. Tongtianzhai in the county seat features typical Danxia landforms; the entrance fee is 60 yuan. 🍜 Ganzhou cuisine tends to be spicy and salty. Locals recommend Ningdu Three-Cup Chicken and Xingguo Rice Noodle Fish. Buy some lotus seed tea from Shicheng County; it's refreshing and helps relieve summer heat. ⚠️ Ganzhou often experiences afternoon thunderstorms in summer, so bring an umbrella; the rain comes and goes quickly. If you want to see authentic Hakka walled villages, go to Guanxi Xinwei in Longnan, about an hour's drive from the city center; the entrance fee is 80 yuan. That's the real-life version of "Big Fish & Begonia," much more interesting than commercialized tourist attractions. 08 Zhoushan City | Zhejiang In Zhoushan's summer, sea breezes and seafood are the main attractions. Putuoshan is a Buddhist holy site; the entrance fee is 160 yuan, and a round-trip boat ticket is 60 yuan. It's very popular, but it gets crowded in August. I suggest taking the first boat at 7:00 AM and visiting the South China Sea Guanyin statue first for a quieter experience. ⏰ Tour groups started arriving after noon, making Fayu Temple and Puji Temple extremely crowded. If you're not particularly keen on burning incense, I recommend Gouqi Island. Located in the Shengsi Islands, Gouqi Island boasts stunningly blue waters – the true way to experience the East China Sea. The boat trip from Shenjiawan Wharf takes four hours and costs 85 yuan. Dawang Beach on the island is free, with fine sand; you can even find small crabs after low tide in the evening. 🍜 The island's cuisine features seafood caught that day by fishing boats; swimming crabs and ribbonfish are must-try dishes. Street food stalls cost around 70 yuan per person, half the price of Putuoshan. ⚠️ Boat tickets must be booked in advance on their official WeChat account; during peak season, tickets are usually sold out on the day. Accommodation on the island ranges from guesthouses costing 200 yuan to sea-view rooms costing 500 yuan. I recommend staying in Dawang Village, as it's convenient for dining and transportation. The sunrise at Gouqi Island is best viewed from the eastern cliff of Shengshan Island. Tickets are 50 yuan, and you need to leave at 4 AM, but seeing the sun leap from the sea is worth it. Of these eight places, I highly recommend Shennongjia and Gouqi Island. Shennongjia is truly cool, and Gouqi Island is truly blue. Do you know any other less crowded, beautiful summer retreats? Tell me in the comments, and I'll explore them next time. Reverse Tourism to Escape the Summer Heat: These 8️⃣ Places Are Less Crowded and More Beautiful 01 Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture | Yunnan In Dali's summer, the mornings and evenings are so cool you'll need a jacket. During the day, the sun shines on Erhai Lake, and the breeze is cool, not the artificial coolness of an air-conditioned room. I suggest you stay in Xizhou Ancient Town, avoid the crowded old town. The morning market in Xizhou opens at 7 AM; you can eat your fill of rice noodles with fried dough sticks for just five yuan. After eating, take a walk along the paddy field ridges. The rice paddies in August are a vibrant green, with Cangshan Mountain in the background – the view is far more valuable than any trendy cafe. ⏰ After 4 PM, visit the Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple. The sunlight shines obliquely on the pagodas, reflecting in the pond, making for perfect photos without filters. Tickets are 75 yuan. Note that the Three Pagodas Reflection Pool is located towards the exit; don't leave immediately after visiting. For the Erhai Lake loop, I recommend renting an electric scooter along the western section, from Caicun to Xizhou. It's an ecological corridor, inaccessible to motor vehicles. You'll encounter many unnamed flower fields along the way, perfect for stopping and taking photos. Nanzhao Folk Island is in Shuanglang; you need to take a boat to get there. When it's crowded, the queue can be at least half an hour. ⚠️ Boat tickets and entrance tickets are purchased separately; don't get ripped off by scalpers. If you're short on time, you can skip Shuanglang; the scenery along the western section is enough to keep you entertained for a whole day. 02 Shigatse City | Tibet Going to Shigatse in August is a serious way to escape the summer heat; the highest temperature here is only slightly above 20 degrees Celsius. But don't assume you can easily see Mount Everest. It takes six hours to drive from the city to Everest Base Camp, climbing to an altitude of 5200 meters along the way. I advise you to stay in Tingri County on your first day to acclimatize, rather than rushing straight to base camp; a headache might prevent you from seeing anything. The entrance fee to Everest is 160 yuan, and you need to transfer to an eco-friendly bus to enter the mountain, which costs 120 yuan. ⏰ The best time to see Everest is 7:00 AM, when there are the fewest clouds and you can see the entire mountain bathed in golden sunlight. Going in the afternoon will mostly result in seeing clouds, and if you're unlucky, even the summit might be hidden. ⚠️ The toilets and tent areas at base camp are basic; be prepared. Back in the city, visit Tashilhunpo Monastery (entrance fee 55 yuan). This is the residence of the Panchen Lama, and it's quite large; a visit takes about two hours. The white stupas and red walls of the monastery are particularly beautiful in the afternoon light around 4:00 PM. I suggest hiring a guide, otherwise it'll just be a rushed visit. Walking the prayer wheel path around the temple entrance with the locals allows you to experience their everyday faith, which is more meaningful than simply taking a picture. 03 Hengshui City | Hebei Hengshui Lake is the largest freshwater lake on the North China Plain. In August, the lotus flowers are in full bloom. Boating through the reeds, the air is filled with the fragrance of lotus leaves. Admission is free, but boat rides are separate: speedboats are 80 yuan per person, and hand-rowed boats are 60 yuan. I recommend the hand-rowed boat; it's slower, but you can smell the lotus flowers. Speedboats create a lot of splashing water. ⏰ Arrive at the lake around 6 am; the water is misty, and birds are calling in the reeds. Hengshui Lake is a stopover for migratory birds; in August, you can see egrets and herons. Bring a telephoto lens; your phone won't be able to capture the birds. There's a fish restaurant at the old Yanhe Wharf in the lake area; their stewed mixed fish is a specialty, costing around 50 yuan per person. The fish is freshly caught from the lake. ⚠️ Weekends are crowded, and boats may have long queues; weekdays are recommended. There's a cycling path around the lake; bikes cost 20 yuan per hour, and a complete loop takes about two hours, suitable for families with children. Shennongding is the "Roof of Central China," at an altitude of 3106 meters; a jacket is necessary as it's windy. The morning mist at Dajiuhu is spectacular, but you must arrive at the transfer center before 6 AM to catch the bus, otherwise, you'll miss everything once the mist dissipates. ⏰ The best time to see the morning mist is between 7 and 8 AM. There's a small train within the scenic area that stops at each lake. I recommend getting off at Lake 4 and hiking to Lake 5; that section is the most beautiful. ⚠️ Mountain weather is unpredictable; raincoats are more useful than umbrellas. They cost 15 yuan each at convenience stores, don't buy them for 30 yuan at the scenic area entrance. For accommodation, I recommend Muyu Town, it's close to the scenic area and convenient for meals. As long as you avoid going between 12 pm and 3 pm, the experience is completely different. The entrance fee to the Badain Jaran Desert is 70 yuan, and it costs 400 yuan per off-road vehicle to enter the desert; each vehicle can seat four people. The driver will take you surfing on the dunes; the feeling of weightlessness is more thrilling than a roller coaster, but some people get motion sickness. ⚠️ If you are prone to motion sickness, take motion sickness medication beforehand. The lakes deep in the desert are salt lakes; the turquoise water against the yellow sand looks like something out of another world when filmed by drone. The Populus euphratica forest tourist area is in Ejina Banner. In August, the poplars are still green, but if you want to avoid the crowds during the National Day holiday, seeing the green poplar forest now offers a different experience. The sunrise at Juyan Lake in Ejina Banner is breathtaking; the entrance fee is 60 yuan. ⏰ Sunrise is around 6:30 am; arrive half an hour early to find a good spot for your camera. Accommodation is in Badain Jaran Town; hotels costing just over 100 yuan a night offer very good conditions. At night, stargazing on the desert shore reveals the Milky Way clearly—a sight that no amount of money in the city can buy. 06 Xuzhou City | Jiangsu Xuzhou Yunlong Lake is a summer retreat for locals. It's free to enter, and the lake is quite large; a complete loop is 10 kilometers. I recommend renting an electric scooter for 60 yuan an hour. ⏰ Go after 6 pm; the lake glitters with golden light, and the breeze is incredibly refreshing. The museum exhibits Han Dynasty stone reliefs, worth spending an hour seeing. For food, go to the street opposite Kaiyuan Mingdu by the lake; there are several restaurants serving stewed chicken in a clay pot, around 50 yuan per person. The cornbread dipped in the broth is amazing. 🍜 Xuzhou is famous for its barbecue, but not the big skewers you see online; it's small skewers, grilled until dry and fragrant. Peak hours are after 10 pm; expect a wait of at least half an hour. Yunlong Lake is suitable for evening walks, playing in the sand with kids, and cycling in the breeze. It's not suitable for going in the middle of the day; there's no shade, and you'll be exposed to intense sun. 07 Ganzhou City | Jiangxi Province Ganzhou is a Hakka-populated area. Visiting in August offers a cool respite from the summer heat and allows you to experience the Hakka walled village culture. Sanbaishan Mountain is the source of the Dongjiang River, boasting extremely high forest coverage and numerous waterfalls in its valleys. The temperature is five to six degrees Celsius lower than in the city. Entrance fee: 85 yuan; sightseeing bus: 20 yuan. ⏰ Morning is the best time to visit, as the light in the valleys is better, and you can capture rainbows at the waterfalls. The glass sky bridge at Sanbaishan Mountain is a popular attraction, but those with a fear of heights should avoid it; there are alternative mountain paths. The boardwalk is gentle and suitable for both the elderly and children. After descending the mountain, head to Shicheng (not the famous Stone City, but Shicheng County in Ganzhou), renowned for its lotus flowers. In August, thousands of acres of lotus flowers are in full bloom in Shicheng. Tongtianzhai in the county seat features typical Danxia landforms; entrance fee: 60 yuan. 🍜 Ganzhou cuisine tends to be spicy and salty. Locals recommend Ningdu Three-Cup Chicken and Xingguo Rice Noodle Fish. Buy some lotus seed tea from Shicheng County; it's refreshing and cooling. ⚠️ Ganzhou experiences frequent afternoon thunderstorms in summer, so bring an umbrella; the rain comes and goes quickly. If you want to see authentic Hakka walled villages, go to Guanxi Xinwei in Longnan, about an hour's drive from the city center. The entrance fee is 80 yuan. It's the real-life version of the movie *Big Fish & Begonia*, much more interesting than commercialized tourist spots. 08 Zhoushan City | Zhejiang In Zhoushan's summer, sea breezes and seafood are the main attractions. Putuoshan is a Buddhist holy site; the entrance fee is 160 yuan, and a round-trip ferry ticket is 60 yuan. It's very popular, but it gets crowded in August. Street food stalls cost around 70 yuan per person, half the price of Putuoshan. ⚠️ Boat tickets must be booked in advance on their official WeChat account; during peak season, tickets are basically sold out on the day. Accommodation on the island ranges from guesthouses for 200 yuan to sea-view rooms for 500 yuan. I recommend staying in Dawang Village, as it's convenient for dining and transportation. The sunrise on Gouqi Island is viewed from the East Cliff on Shengshan Island. The entrance fee is 50 yuan, and you need to leave at 4 am, but seeing the sun leap from the horizon is worth it. Of these eight places, I most recommend Shennongjia and Gouqi Island. Shennongjia is truly cool, and Gouqi Island has truly blue skies. Do you know any other less crowded and beautiful summer retreats? Tell me in the comments, and I'll explore them next time.
