[Shizuoka Tourism] Fuji Sengen Shrine⛩
📍 East Gate Main Shrine, Fuji Sengen Shrine
This shrine is honored as the starting point of the Subashiri trail to Mt. Fuji, and is also known locally as Subashiri Sengen Shrine.
In the early Heian period, during the reign of Emperor Kanmu in 802, the eastern foot of Mt. Fuji erupted, and court officials set up a shrine in Subashiri on the east side of Mt. Fuji and held a fire-extinguishing ceremony to pray for the fire to cease for the frightened residents. The eruption subsided on the first day of the first month of April that year, and this shrine is said to have been founded in 807.
The side of the approach to the shrine is a waterway and a walking path, and the greenery and spring water make this a very soothing shrine⛩
