It is more convenient to go to the main tourist attractions. Recommended hotels—— Baode Haiyu Hotel, Xi'an. 【茶饮者】 Location: No. 49, Renmin West Road, Qindu District, Xi'an. 2.5 km from Baoquan Road Metro Station. Hotel class: Basically meets the standard of a four-star hotel. The hotel was newly opened in 2023. It has excellent facilities and hardware conditions, is stylishly decorated, and is spacious and bright. The rooms are fully equipped and furnished with ornaments, and the rooms are spacious. There are so many ancient tombs to see just outside of Shaanxi. This Mid-Autumn Festival, I set off on a self-drive trip from Xi'an to visit the long-planned Qianling Mausoleum. The first stop was the Tomb of Princess Yongtai. Princess Yongtai, Li Xianhui, was the seventh daughter of Emperor Zhongzong of Tang (Li Xian) and the granddaughter of Empress Wu Zetian. Historical records state that on September 3, 701, her brother Li Chongrun (Prince Yide) and her husband, Wu Yanji, the Prince of Wei, were executed by Wu Zetian for privately discussing the Zhang brothers (Zhang Yizhi and Zhang Changzong). The epitaph on her tomb, however, states that Princess Yongtai died on September 4 due to a miscarriage ("zhu tai hui yue"). Given the timing, it's difficult to believe that this difficult birth was unrelated to the execution of her brother and husband. At the time of her death, Yongtai was still a commandery princess, only seventeen years old. After Emperor Zhongzong was restored to the throne, he posthumously bestowed upon her the title of Princess and, in 706, had her remains moved to be reburied near the Qianling Mausoleum. The scale of her tomb is comparable to that of an emperor, making her the only princess in ancient Chinese history whose tomb is referred to as a "ling" (mausoleum). The princess's tomb was once robbed, and as a result, the underground palace has been opened to the public. Entering the tomb passage, you can see that the underground palace consists of five passageways, six courtyards, eight side chambers, front and rear corridors, and front and rear burial chambers. The original funerary objects and murals have been moved to several museums, leaving only the stone coffin in its original location. The most famous murals are the "Court Ladies," particularly the one depicting a court lady holding a glass of wine. Her graceful posture and gentle smile have earned her the title of "The First Beauty." Although it's a replica, the exquisite details are still evident.

The tomb of Prince Zhanghuai is 180 meters long and 143 meters wide. The mound is in the shape of a funnel, with a square base, a side length of 43 meters and a height of 18 meters. The underground palace is 71 meters long, 3.3 meters wide and 7 meters deep. More than 600 cultural relics, including murals, painted pottery figurines, tri-color ware, ceramics and stone carvings, were unearthed from the tomb of Prince Zhanghuai, providing relatively important physical materials for the study of Tang Dynasty history, culture and art. On March 4, 1961, Qianling Mausoleum, including the Tomb of Prince Zhanghuai, was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

Today I would like to tell a few words about Chinese pyramids. This is Qianling 乾陵。There is probably the hugest pyramid in the world. its height is about 300 m. Xianyang / Xi'an surroundings counts more than 200 pyramid-shaped hills where emperors, their wifes, princess, generals and high ranked servants were buried. Most famous mound belongs to the Qing Shi Huang Di. But we will try to understand what does make Qianling special. At first, we have to note, that all mounds were made from pressed soil, and only Qianling demonstrates stone walls. Qianling actually is considered as a mountain, there is accurately avoided fact to name it pyramid. In this location (photo is presented) we can see two other mounds, those belongs to Wuza Tian empresses and her husband. These two really looks like non professional replica compared to tall mountain))))) Fact number two. All mounds construction / creation process was documented with details by lovely writing ancient Chinese bureaucrats, except... Qianling mountain. Tourists are not allowed to climb Qianling, but it's easy to do. Just turn right from tourist path, come around and start to climb trough the forest from back side. My wife and I have visited almost all big mounds in Shaanxi plain area, but only Qianling lonely and forgotten pyramid is made of rock with its big stone steps like a huge stair. It looks so old, ancient, even archaic. You will feel that, the pyramid had stood before Chinese ancient civilization bloom, watched epoch by epoch, and it is still standing now. How to get there : from Xi'an 城西客运站 just take a intercity bus to 乾县，busses departs every 30-40 minutes.
