Pollensa travel guide and discussion

⛰️ Cape Formentor is the northernmost and most scenic point on Mallorca—a narrow, rocky peninsula stretching about 20 kilometers. The scenery here is a breathtaking blend of sheer cliffs, the turquoise Mediterranean Sea, and lush pine forests. Mallorca is the largest of Spain's Balearic Islands. ⛰️ Viewpoints: The most famous is Mirador de Es Colomer, perched over 200 meters above sea level. It offers stunning views of the rugged cliffs and the rocky islet of El Colomer jutting out from the waves. ⛰️ Formentor Lighthouse (Cap de Formentor): A historic lighthouse built in 1892, standing about 30 meters tall. It marks the very tip of the peninsula and is accessible via a famously winding mountain road. ⛰️ Formentor Beach (Platja de Formentor): A serene sandy beach with crystal-clear water and dense pine trees, perfect for swimming and relaxation. Nearby is the legendary, historic Barceló Formentor hotel, which has hosted numerous celebrities over the decades. ⛰️ The serpentine road on the cape was designed by the renowned engineer Antonio Parietti in the 20th century. The road is notoriously narrow, with sharp hairpins and dramatic drops. During the summer, private vehicle access to the lighthouse is typically restricted during the day (special shuttle buses operate for tourists to prevent traffic jams). The best time for a trip is early morning or evening, when you can catch a spectacular sunset without the heavy crowds. travel nature travel

I based myself in Port de Pollença in June 2026 and learned the hard way that the Ma-2210 road to Far de Formentor is closed to private cars 10:00–22:00 daily from 15 May to 18 Oct. I arrived by rental car at 9:40 am, drove the 20 km spine past Mirador Es Colomer (stopped 10 min—spectacular 180° cliff drop), reached Formentor Beach car park (€5 summer, fills by 11), and pushed on to the lighthouse by 9:58. By 10:01 a camera would have fined me €100–200 if I'd been one minute later. The lighthouse itself is a white 1863 tower on a 200 m cliff, free to walk around, no café, no toilet—pack water. Then I backtracked to the Cala Figuera / Cala Murta bus stop, parked the car at Formentor Beach, and rode TIB line 334 back (card tap €1.80, cash €3, 50 min to Port de Pollença). Cala Figuera here is not the famous fishing village in the southeast—it's a pebble cove beneath the northern cliffs, no sand, no chiringuito, accessed by a steep 15-min descent from the roadside stop; the water is that impossible Mallorcan turquoise. Mistake: I assumed "Cala Figuera" meant the postcard harbor and wasted 20 min confused. Another mistake: not bringing windproof layer—the cape gusts 50 km/h even in June. Verdict: drive before 10 am for sunrise control, or surrender to the bus and hop off at Es Colomer + Cala Figuera. The cliff drive is one of the Mediterranean's best; the fine risk is real. Question: is a pre-10-am stressed drive better than a relaxed €1.80 bus ride with the same view?

Located in the center of Pollença, the Parroquia Mare de Déu dels Àngels is the main church of the town. While its origins date back to the 13th century, the current structure was primarily built in the 18th century, between 1714 and 1790. Initially associated with the Templars and later the Hospitallers, it eventually became the church we see today. The exterior is relatively plain, but the interior is far more captivating. The painted vaulted ceiling adds striking character to the nave, featuring elaborate religious decor that conveys a sense of richness despite the church's modest size.

This was our second visit to this hotel, and once again, we had a fantastic stay! The place is beautifully clean, and the staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly. The food is excellent, and the drinks are enjoyable. Adding more cocktail options to the all-inclusive menu, like piña colada, would be a great touch. Lunch is particularly impressive as you order from a menu, and everything is freshly prepared. The staff are very prompt and efficient. Rooms are spacious enough, with comfortable beds. It’s generally easy to find a sun lounger, which is a plus. Even during the peak season, the hotel doesn’t feel overcrowded. We look forward to visiting again!

Our stay at Hoposa Pollentia was absolutely amazing. It matched all the glowing reviews we read and exceeded our expectations. The hotel is ideally located about a 10-15 minute walk from the center, offering a peaceful setting. It sits directly on the beach, providing breathtaking sea views and easy access to great bars and charming restaurants nearby. Conveniently, there's a pharmacy just 2 minutes away and small supermarkets on either side. The hotel service is exceptional, with a team that’s genuinely attentive and dedicated to ensuring you have a memorable experience. Although it was our first visit, we’re already planning to return. The rooftop pool is delightful, and there’s also a second swimming pool available. The verandah is a popular spot, not just for hotel guests but also for visitors from other hotels. It’s a perfect place to enjoy drinks and admire the stunning sunrise and sunset views.

Fantastic hotel with an incredible team! It's located right across from the beach, with about six restaurants just a 5-minute walk away, yet the area remains peaceful. The rooms are all air-conditioned and include walk-in showers. Sea-view front rooms feature a balcony, adding to the charm. There's a pool at the back of the property and a plunge pool on the rooftop terrace. We loved it so much, we're definitely planning to return!

This was our third visit to Puerta Pollensa and by far the best hotel we've stayed at. The clean lines, spacious layout, and modern decor create a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, topped off with a rooftop terrace and a ground-floor pool. Miriam at reception provided superb service and is truly an asset to the hotel. The breakfast area, including the outdoor seating, is lovely and Eli manages it exceptionally well. Outstanding customer service throughout. Restaurants are nearby, and the pine walk is about a 25-minute stroll away. It's also very close to the beach, making it the perfect location. We've already rebooked for next year!

Our group stayed at the Pollentia Hotel for 5 days during a cycling vacation, and it couldn't have been better. The location is ideal—right by the beach and the main bike path, and within riding distance of Cap Formentor, Sa Colobra, Victoria Peninsula, and other fantastic routes. The bed was very comfortable, the rooms were quiet, and the daily breakfast was excellent! The staff went out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable and problem-free. The facilities for bike storage, washing, and maintenance were top-notch. We'll definitely return!

Everything about the hotel was fantastic. The rooms were modern, featured a lovely bathroom, and were spotlessly clean. The view from the balcony, especially during sunrise, was breathtaking. Breakfast was excellent, offering a wide variety of options, and the staff during breakfast were extremely helpful and polite. The service at the rooftop bar was also great. Evening entertainment was enjoyable, particularly the musician who performed rock songs. The reception team was very helpful in arranging restaurant bookings and taxis. Gaby, the evening waiter, was incredibly friendly and truly an asset to the team. We've already booked for next year!

Mallorca is a much larger island than you might expect. If you book your accommodations in a single location or without considering your travel route, you will end up spending more than three hours a day traveling back and forth in your car. Here are three recommended locations for the most efficient accommodations based on your travel style, along with connecting itineraries. 1. Recommended Accommodation Locations by Region in Mallorca Palma City Center (Palma de Mallorca) — [First Visit / Public Transport / Gourmet & Shopping Hub] Features: It is a 15-minute drive from the airport and is densely packed with Palma Cathedral, the Old Town, famous restaurants, and brand shops. You can stay out late at night, and it is convenient for using connecting tours. Disadvantages: Hotels in the city center often have limited parking spaces or high daily parking fees. If using a rental car, it is essential to check if your accommodation has a private parking lot. Sóller or Port de Sóller — [Relaxation / Charming Small Town / Rest Hub] Features: A quaint, fairytale-like village in the western mountainous region. It is the perfect place to relax and watch the sunset at the restaurants lining the beach, with wooden trams passing by. Disadvantage: The western mountain roads are narrow and winding, which can be challenging for novice drivers when driving at night. Portenza or Southeastern Beach (Port de Pollença / Cala d'Or) — [Beach Snorkeling / Rental Car Only] Features: Close to famous cliff beaches (Calas) such as Cala Moro and Cala Lombards, and features many resort-style accommodations with relatively easy parking. Disadvantage: It takes some time to travel to downtown Palma or the airport. 2. Practical Tips for Driving & Parking Rental Cars Vehicle Selection: Since the alleys and mountain roads in small towns (Valldemossa, Deia) are very narrow, small hatchbacks or compact SUVs are much more convenient for passing and parking. Parking in the Blue Line (Zona ORA): You must pay for a parking ticket using a self-service payment machine or the dedicated app (mobiAPParc) and place it on the inside of the vehicle's windshield. If you are charged a fee due to exceeding the time limit, press the 'Cancel' button on the payment machine and insert the fee (approximately 6 euros) to have it cancelled immediately. 3. Recommended 3-Night, 4-Day Itinerary Day 1 (Palma City Center) Visit Palma Cathedral (Catedral de Mallorca) ➔ Stroll through the alleys of the Old Town ➔ Watch the sunset at the lake area in front of the cathedral [Accommodation: Palma City Center] Day 2 (Western Charm Small Town) Valldemossa Village ➔ Deía Viewpoint ➔ Arrive in Sóller city center, take the wooden tram to Port de Sóller and have seafood paella for lunch [Accommodation: Palma City Center or Sóller] Day 3 (Southeast Emerald Beaches) Arrive at Caló des Moro or Cala Piquera before 9:30 AM for snorkeling ➔ Transfer to Ses Salines for lunch [Accommodation: Palma City Center or Southeast] Day 4 (Northern Drive & Return) Cap de Formentor Viewpoint ➔ Souvenir shopping in city center, then airport Move #MallorcaAccommodationLocation #MallorcaTravel #SpainMallorca #MallorcaAccommodation #MallorcaRentalCar #PalmaCathedral #Sóller #Calamoro #Valldemossa #SpainTravel #EuropeanResort

Stayed for 11 nights in a premium pool suite, which featured a charming private garden area with a Bali bed, sunbed, and table with chairs. A small, semi-private pool right next to us was warm and very relaxing. The staff here are outstanding—friendly, attentive, and quick to respond to any queries or requests, truly a credit to the hotel. The location is just a short 20-minute walk to the main area along a stunning coastal path, making it a lovely spot overall. However, I did have one issue with the bathroom's sliding door. It doesn’t fully close, which I found quite frustrating. I don't understand why hotels use this design—it really lacks privacy. Unfortunately, I was unwell for five days during my stay, and the lack of proper bathroom privacy added to the discomfort. If the bathrooms were updated to include better doors, this hotel could rank among the nicest I've ever stayed in.

This was our second visit, and certainly not the last! We had an incredible time. The rooms have been recently renovated, and as requested via email beforehand, we got a lovely pool view. The staff are all so friendly, and the food is absolutely delicious—though I did gain 6 pounds in just a week! We stayed half board, and it worked perfectly for us. My husband enjoyed cycling around the island with his bike, while I spent my days relaxing at the hotel after a pleasant 15-minute walk into town, which I really enjoyed. Already looking forward to coming back, hopefully for a 10-day visit next time instead of a week! 😊

Fabulous Four Seasons at Mallorca Formentor.

We stayed at the Cabot Romantic as a couple and found the room to be small, but it had everything we needed including a kettle, fridge, and a safe (paid for at reception, which we used). The shower was very powerful, and toiletries were provided inside, which was a nice touch. The balcony was spacious, offering a lovely view of both the mountains and a side sea view, which we absolutely loved! Breakfast had a wide variety, including croissants, fresh fruit, yogurts, cereals with healthy toppings, full breakfast options, and different types of bread. The chef consistently replenished the food with fresh items. My husband, who is celiac, was wonderfully accommodated with a gluten-free breakfast consisting of a warm baguette, chocolate cookie, and two small muffins—a thoughtful gesture from the hotel. He only had to ask, and the warm baguette was particularly enjoyable. We had lunch at the hotel twice, and they catered to my husband’s dietary needs without any issues, even providing gluten-free beer, which he thoroughly enjoyed. The view of the sea from the hotel’s dining area was fantastic, especially while eating or drinking. The reception staff was extremely helpful, assisting us with local bus timetables and directions to various destinations. Using the buses was simple, with tapping on and off when boarding and alighting—more economical when using a card instead of cash. We visited Alcudia, Old Town Pollença, and Palma, which were all delightful, especially Palma. The hotel’s location was excellent, directly across from the beach, which we frequented daily as the sea was warm and inviting. Additionally, we had access to two pools at Cabot sister apartments, just a short walk from the hotel. The reception kindly provided clear directions, which was very convenient.

Rented SUP boards from Mallorca Beach and Beyond at Cala Molins—undoubtedly the best experience of my entire vacation. The quality of the boards is incredible, and with their helpful tips, we discovered the stunning Blue Cave in Cala Boquer. The staff provided excellent service, were highly knowledgeable, and even offered gear delivery. A solid 5-star experience—highly recommend!

We stayed in a third-floor apartment with a roof terrace. It was lovely and clean upon arrival, with water provided. The kitchen had all the essentials along with a cleaning pack. The sofa bed in the lounge worked well for our kids aged 12 and 8, though when unfolded, it blocked access to the balcony. The air conditioning in the living area worked flawlessly and was on constantly. The bathroom was spacious but had poor lighting and a subpar hairdryer. There were stains in the shower, no lock on the door, and wall-mounted toiletries that were too high for our 8-year-old to reach. We weren’t always provided with four towels after cleaning. The bedroom featured a large wardrobe but lacked adequate hangers and needed more drawers or shelves. The safe cost an extra €3.50 per day, and beach towels required a €10 deposit each. While the bed was comfortable, the long, hard pillows were less desirable. The upstairs area saw little use. The day bed had metal poles on the sides that didn’t stay secured, causing noise against the frame. The whirlpool took ages to fill and was fairly loud. The pool was fantastic; our kids enjoyed using floats, and loungers or day beds were readily available. Before heading out in the evenings, the kids loved playing pool. A nearby Spar was convenient for breakfast pastries and drinks, and the beach was just across the road. However, walking 20–30 minutes to reach the bars we preferred was a bit of a downside.

Upon check-in, we immediately knew we had made the best choice to book this place as our home in the sun for eight days. Every staff member who interacted with guests greeted us with a cheerful "buen Dias" and a smile. The rooms were clean, spacious, and serviced daily to a high standard. The food was varied, fresh, and abundant—what more could you ask for? Overall, the hotel truly deserves its 4-star rating without question.

This was our second 10-night stay in two years, and we still absolutely love the hotel. The staff is amazing, the breakfasts are fantastic, the rooms are spotless, and the whole place has a wonderfully relaxed vibe. Our seaview room offered breathtaking views, and the rooftop sun lounge area was equally impressive. The cleaning staff does an excellent job every day, keeping the rooms immaculate. Miriam at reception was her usual professional and kind self, ensuring that the check-in process went smoothly. The team’s willingness to go above and beyond is commendable. The hotel offers a bed and breakfast option, and the breakfast is outstanding, with a great variety, fresh ingredients, and an enjoyable atmosphere while overlooking the water each morning. Special thanks to Eli, whom we got to know during our stay—she is a true credit to Hoposa and this hotel. We loved our experience here and truly consider it the best hotel in Port Pollenca.

Booked a one-bedroom apartment on the first floor, Block 6, room 6201. No lift available, and there are 16 steps to reach the apartment, which made carrying luggage a bit of a hassle—probably more challenging for those with children. The balcony was fantastic, equipped with a table and chairs, and faced south towards a couple of pools. The apartment interior was spacious, with enough seating, a sofa bed, and two TVs (one in the lounge, one in the bedroom). On the downside, there were limited British TV channels—only three. Wi-Fi was mediocre and frequently dropped out in the bedroom, balcony, opposite pool, and the hotel's main pool area. The small kitchenette was well-stocked for a 1-2 week stay. There's an on-site minimart and ATM, but the prices were high—€3.60 for 1 liter of milk! The safe was free to use, but we had to pay a tourist tax upon check-in. The bed was firm, which I didn’t mind, but the pillows were awful. Unfortunately, the back of the apartment faced a small road, and mornings were noisy with trucks, garbage collectors, delivery vans, and loud conversations starting from 5 a.m., even with earplugs. The window wasn’t properly double-glazed, adding to the disturbance. Air conditioning worked well. However, the sofa wasn’t comfortable enough for long sitting sessions. Both pools were spotless, with well-maintained grassy surroundings. This side of the complex, quieter and family-oriented, seemed ideal for those with babies due to the pool sizes. In early September, plenty of sunbeds were available. The busier main pool, located at the back of the hotel, featured a pool restaurant and staff encouraging guests to join games like water polo and darts. Music played in this area, and one exceptional staff member went around adjusting umbrellas to keep guests cool in the shade—brilliant service. Housekeeping maintained a high standard of cleanliness throughout the stay, although they don’t clean two days a week. A bus stop two minutes away provides easy access to Alcudia or Puerto Pollensa port. A tip: don’t pay with cash on the bus since it’s 40% more expensive. Use a debit card or Apple Pay as there’s no prepaid card option available. Both Alcudia and the port offer a variety of delightful restaurants. The bus ride to the port takes about 10 minutes and 15 minutes to Alcudia. Airport transfer took 1 hour and 20 minutes via an 11-seater minibus provided by TUI. Overall, we had a wonderfully relaxing time and would definitely consider returning.

What a delightful place! The resort is ideal for families, but as two adults with a 16-year-old, we enjoyed every moment of our stay. Everything you could possibly need was readily available, and the staff were incredibly friendly. We visited in early July and found plenty of sunbeds, including shaded ones, along with ample space in the pools. The activities, such as Pilates, water aerobics, and football, were well-organized, offering plenty of options to keep us entertained. Music played every evening, including a disco for the little ones, but everything wrapped up peacefully by 10:30 or 11 PM. The refreshing Mediterranean breeze kept the temperatures from feeling too hot. Pollensa Bay, with its stunning beaches and water sports, is about a 35-40 minute walk away. If walking isn’t your preference, there’s a reasonably priced bus running between Pollensa and Alcudia; using a tap card is the most economical choice. Alcudia’s Sunday market, 13th-century walls, and beaches are well worth exploring, as is a trip to Formentor, with ferries departing from Pollensa Bay. The area felt incredibly safe, even late at night, and there were numerous restaurants to choose from. However, the resort itself offers so much that you might not feel the need to leave. The walk to Pollensa Bay could be challenging in the midday heat, but the on-site food and drink options were fantastic. The buffet breakfast was impressively extensive, and we were happy we included it in our booking. We used the gym daily and also indulged in relaxing spa massages. The reception staff were consistently helpful, and the large pool never felt crowded. Smaller pools for kids are available too. The layout of the resort is excellent, featuring a mini-mart, smoothie bar, various restaurants, and incredible cocktails. The room and amenities perfectly matched the photos on the website. We booked through EasyJet, and the transfers were seamless. It was a genuinely relaxing stay, and we’d love to return!

We stayed at this hotel for seven nights and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. What truly stood out was the staff. Everyone we encountered – from reception to breakfast to the housekeeping team – was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful. We genuinely felt cared for and valued as guests throughout our stay. The hotel itself is fresh, modern, and very well-maintained. Our room was spotless, and the housekeeping was excellent all week. A special mention goes to the air conditioning – possibly the best we’ve ever had in a hotel! It worked exceptionally well and kept the room perfectly cool and comfortable. The facilities are excellent, and we particularly loved the charming courtyard. It was a delightful spot to relax in the evenings, with enjoyable live performances that created a lovely atmosphere. The location is fantastic, right by the sea and within walking distance of restaurants, bars, and nightlife. You get everything close by while still enjoying the beautiful seaside setting. Breakfast was another highlight. The buffet was large, fresh, and varied, with nearly everything you could hope for. Overall, we had an outstanding seven-night stay and would gladly return. The combination of wonderful staff, a great location, cleanliness, fantastic facilities, and a warm atmosphere made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Highly recommended!

Our stay at Can Auli was absolutely amazing. Despite arriving late due to a flight delay, we were warmly welcomed by Toni at reception, who went above and beyond to make us feel at home. The beautiful room and stunning surroundings, exuding calmness and tranquility, instantly impressed us. What stood out even more was the incredibly kind and fabulous staff, always eager to assist every guest. The breakfast service was outstanding, and the overall vibe made it a perfect place to relax. Thank you to the entire team – you all deserve immense credit for creating such a wonderful experience. Simply fabulous! ❤️

We really enjoyed our stay at Hobby Club, although we were initially disappointed to find it full of families with children. As an older couple, we had hoped it would be quieter at the end of August/beginning of September, but you live and learn. The apartments are lovely, spacious, and clean on arrival. The location is outstanding—right across from the beach and just a short walk to shops, bars, and restaurants. However, we were let down by the housekeeping service. We're not sure our bedding was changed at all during our 14-night stay. Reception states that apartments are serviced every other day, but in reality, that service seems to consist of sweeping, emptying bins, and changing towels. On our second trip to Puerto Pollensa, we chose Cabot accommodation due to a great previous experience. While the apartments here are good, we noticed some differences—such as the lack of a quality hairdryer, which might matter to some guests. Instead of a GHD hairdryer like in Las Velas, Hobby Club only has a basic wall-mounted one. I bring this up because it might catch others off guard. Other minor downsides included the near-constant dragging of furniture in neighboring apartments, either by guests or housekeeping, often early in the morning. With the pool enclosed on three sides, noise bounces off the walls and can be heard even from the beach. That said, there are several positives. We appreciated the washing machine and dryer on the ground floor—€4 for the wash and €3 for the dryer, with detergent and softener included, which is very convenient. Pool and beach towels can also be hired from reception by leaving a deposit. A fee of €2 is charged for each towel change, which is another handy feature. We spent most of our days at the beach where two loungers and a parasol cost €21. Overall, we would happily return to Hobby Club but would make sure to avoid school holiday periods next time.

It’s a truly gorgeous spot. We’ve heard that it tends to get crowded in summer, and now we understand why. The beach is relatively long but narrow, which leads to space limitations. However, when we visited on a September morning, we found it easy to access and had no issue finding parking. The recommended alternatives, like taking a bus or a boat from Port de Pollenca, make perfect sense after experiencing the challenging drive. The road zigzags steeply along the high Mallorcan terrain to Cap de Formentor, with numerous cyclists to navigate around. Facilities are good, and the water is absolutely pristine. Just a heads-up: parking costs €10 for two hours, which isn’t cheap. Additionally, in the first section of the beach, the cost for two sunbeds and a parasol was an eye-watering €80. It’s much better to bring your own umbrella and seating. Overall, don’t let these small inconveniences deter you. Plan carefully and you’ll leave happy!

I recommend this activity 1000%! 🤩 Paco and Antonio are absolutely amazing, as is the entire team! If you're visiting Majorca, don't hesitate to try this, you won’t regret it! ❤️ We swam with fish in turquoise waters, enjoyed the sun on Formentor beach—a true slice of paradise—and had a feast fit for royalty! The food was absolutely delicious. 😋 And Antonio’s surprise left us with literal chills! 🥹 The atmosphere aboard the Robinson was just incredible; we soaked it all in from start to finish! 🎉 It’s such a pity we don’t have many days left in Majorca because we’d have definitely done this again without hesitation! A huge thank you to the entire team for these wonderful shared moments and all the amazing memories (including the pirate ship photo 🥰) you've given us. ❤️ See you next year! ☀️🇪🇸

It was our first visit to Mallorca, and we absolutely loved our stay at Hoposa Pollentia. We decided to upgrade to a junior suite and enjoyed a lovely balcony with an ocean view. The hotel is conveniently located just across the street from a pristine beach where getting seats was very easy. The service at the hotel was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious, along with the lunch and snacks. The bar served amazing cocktails, with the espresso martini being a standout. We also enjoyed live music on the patio on some evenings. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return!
