Yesterday I shared with you the magnificent three-colored legend of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Today, I want to zoom in a bit more and talk about the aesthetic details hidden behind this grand architecture. Many people think that this stunning marble facade is a masterpiece completed in one go during the Renaissance. In fact, it went through a long relay of nearly 600 years. In 1296, Arnolfo di Cambio established the concept of the three-colored marble facade. Later, Giotto integrated the rigorous geometric order and aesthetic proportions of painting into the architectural design. It wasn't until the 19th century that architect Emilio De Fabris, with respect for his predecessors, completed this final piece of the puzzle using a Neo-Gothic language. Six centuries, different eras, different architects, yet all guarding the same dream. Therefore, every carving, every inlay, and every set of proportions we see today is not the work of one person, but a dialogue completed by generations of craftsmen across time. When you zoom in, the beauty of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore begins to slowly unfold. The green serpentine from Prato, the white marble from Carrara, and the pink marble from Maremma are interwoven, as delicate as a fine-brush painting. The geometric patterns of the facade unfold in layers, presenting a rhythm almost like tapestry in the sunlight. The colorful ceramic mosaic "Ecce Ancilla Domini" ("Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord") on the lintel gleams, while the folds of the saints' robes, the textures of flowers and leaves, the carvings on the capitals, and even every line of stone carving seem to still retain the breath and warmth left by the craftsmen when they chiseled them. It is precisely because of this that what is truly breathtaking about the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is not just its dome that soars into the clouds, but those details that make people want to stop and gaze closely. When you stand before it, you look up at faith, but when you draw near to touch it, you are touching time. This is not just a church, but more like an epic written in marble. Six hundred years of time have not made it old; instead, they have allowed every texture to accumulate the depth of the years, and have allowed this land of Tuscany to forever inscribe its deepest love for art, faith, and aesthetics onto the skyline of Florence.

This museum surprised me. A textile museum? Walking into the first room, it was what you would expect: expensive and old capes and clothes. But then the second room… it becomes multi-sensory. Do you know the difference in feel between wool, camel hair, and alpaca? Or between cotton, linen, and silk? Reach into the clear plastic boxes and touch them. Dyeing? I had a vague idea, don't you? This museum shows you the original organic materials people used to make different colours centuries ago – and tells you how they went about it, with examples of each step right in front of you. Material made from milk fibre? Feel it. Surprisingly good, and supposedly good for the environment. Upstairs, another room about the history of the textile industry in Prato. Ho-hum. Skip it. The final two rooms are the most surprising – rotating temporary exhibitions. When I was there, the exhibition was called "The Thread That Links Inspiration to Creation" . First, a room with canvas: mixed media and yarns like paintings, plus a video of sketches and photos by the same creator . Then you step through – and the paintings and sketches have been brought to life in full human-sized wearable outfits . Textiles as art. A very interesting museum – worth the trip, and just a short, well-signposted walk from the station. History, science, art, all in one. Above the window arches, delicate shields and reliefs unfold layer by layer. Even the smallest base is carved with the craftsmen’s almost stubborn precision. Saints in the niches gaze quietly at the square, backed by mosaics of gold stars on a deep blue background. That deep blue calls to mind the clear, cloudless Tuscan night sky. The mosaic of the Coronation of the Virgin above the main door shines brightly in the sunlight, echoing the vivid colors of the paintings at the square’s art stalls—ancient faith and everyday life gently coexisting on the same stone pavement. Looking up, Giotto’s bell tower points to the sky like a long sword, with pointed arches, stained glass, and layers of colorful marble intertwined. It’s more than a church; it’s a sonnet written in stone. Every line and every crack holds the glory of Florence’s golden age. Standing here, you realize that what truly moves people about Florence isn’t just the Renaissance treasures it left behind, but that six hundred years later, the sunlight still falls on the same marble, letting faith, art, and life meet as they always have.

This is MAG56 If you go to Florence, you should definitely visit this restaurant✨✨✨It's a little far from the city center, so you have to get there by train or taxi, but it's a great restaurant and I'm really glad I went🫶🏽🫶🏽 I was introduced to this restaurant by an acquaintance, and the main chef is amazing and a very kind person who loves Japan. I heard that he came to Japan to train and honed his skills by eating seven times a day😌 I think you can taste something different from regular Italian food.

#100WaysOfTravel It took more than 4 hours to drive 300 kilometers from Rome to stay in the second hotel in Italy. The hotel is located in the very center of the town, with many restaurants and a medium-sized supermarket called LIDI in about a 10-minute walk (prices and Roman attractions are much more reasonable). The hotel facilities are also good. The room is quite spacious and has a sofa. Personally, I prefer the soft mattress. The shower room is slightly small, and there is no place to put toiletries, which is not very convenient. Pub Disposable toiletries and slippers are provided. The breakfast is not rich, but moderate. Basically, there are 1 to 2 basic varieties,.

Don’t skip this gem of a city. There are no crowds and it is a beautifully preserved place. The food and cafes are very cheap and it is only a 30 minute ride from Florence. Don’t forget the Chinatown street where you have 1-2 kilometers of Chinese restaurants and shops too. You can stop at Prato central station and walk to the city centre or take the further Prato station and walk though Chinatown and then to the old town nearby. Wonderful!
