After exiting the Sphinx Observatory elevator, I descended into the Ice Palace, carved 30 meters inside the eternal ice of the Aletsch Glacier. The tunnel stays at –3°C year-round. I touched sculpted ice bears and eagles, their surfaces smooth as glass. Photography is tricky; my phone fogged instantly in the humidity shift. Beyond the Ice Palace, the marked route leads onto the Plateau—a vast snowfield at 3,454 m. Here, the “Snow Fun Park” offers sledding (CHF 15 for a plastic toboggan) and a short zip line (CHF 20). We visited during the summer, so it wasn't the best season for skiing. However, the breathtaking scenery made the trip absolutely worthwhile. Standing at the summit, taking in the views, immersing yourself in the moment, snapping a few photos, and marveling at the grandeur of the glaciers was simply amazing. There's also a small restaurant at the top. If the weather permits and the trails are accessible, you can enjoy hiking along the paths. Overall, it was an incredible experience, highly recommended.

Photos simply cannot capture the awe-inspiring feeling of being there in person. Once you've seen the Aletsch Glacier, you'll understand what I mean. On your left, you'll find the hiking trail that gently descends. Follow the signs towards Märjelen Lake and the GeletscherStube mountain restaurant, and eventually head in the direction of the Fiescheralp cable car.
