🇳🇴 Oslo, Norway | The City I Almost Skipped… But Ended Up Loving the Most ❤️
When planning my Norway trip, I was excited about the fjords, Bergen, and the breathtaking landscapes.
Oslo?
Honestly, I almost skipped it.
I thought it would simply be a city to fly in and out of. Instead, it quietly became one of the biggest surprises of my journey.
Unlike many European capitals filled with crowds and busy attractions, Oslo felt calm, clean, and incredibly relaxing. The city has a unique rhythm where people aren't rushing from place to place. Instead, locals enjoy coffee by the waterfront, families relax in the parks, and cyclists glide through tree-lined streets.
After spending a full day here, I finally understood why so many Norwegians love their capital.
✨ My Experience
I started my morning at the Oslo Opera House, and it immediately became my favourite place in the city.
Unlike any opera house I'd visited before, you can actually walk up onto the roof.
Standing there with panoramic views of the Oslo Fjord, I watched ferries quietly crossing the water while locals sat on the white marble steps enjoying their morning coffee.
I wasn't rushing to tick off attractions anymore.
I simply sat there for nearly an hour, enjoying the fresh air and peaceful atmosphere.
Sometimes, the best travel memories come from slowing down rather than doing more.
From the Opera House, I walked towards Karl Johans Gate, Oslo's most famous street.
The walk itself became part of the experience.
Beautiful historic buildings stood beside modern shops, cafés spilled onto the sidewalks, and talented street musicians filled the air with music.
Eventually, I reached the Royal Palace, where people were relaxing on the lawns instead of crowding around for photos.
That was something I noticed throughout Oslo.
It never felt overwhelming.
It simply felt comfortable.
One place I almost removed from my itinerary was Vigeland Sculpture Park.
I expected it to be "just another park."
I couldn't have been more wrong.
Walking among more than 200 sculptures telling stories about family, childhood, friendship, and aging was surprisingly moving.
It wasn't just an outdoor museum.
It felt like a walk through human emotions.
As evening approached, I made my way to Aker Brygge.
This quickly became another highlight of my trip.
The waterfront came alive with people enjoying dinner, boats gently floating in the harbour, and golden sunlight reflecting across the Oslo Fjord.
I bought a coffee, found a bench by the water, and watched the city slowly transition into evening.
Looking back, it wasn't a dramatic sunset.
But it was one of the most peaceful evenings I experienced in Norway.

❤️ Final Thoughts
Before visiting, I thought Oslo would simply be the starting point of my Norway adventure.
Instead, it became one of the places I remember most.
It wasn't because of famous landmarks or spectacular attractions.
It was because of how the city made me feel.
Peaceful.
Comfortable.
Unhurried.
