Sutton Forest travel guide and discussion

If you're looking for a quick escape from Sydney, Bowral is an incredibly relaxing choice. There's no need to pack your itinerary with attractions; just half a day is enough to soak in the completely different vibe of the Southern Highlands. My trip to Bowral this time revolved around two main goals: seeing the tulips and eating at Gumnut Patisserie. 🌷 Tulip Time I arrived right in time for Bowral's tulip season, and the whole town was instantly brimming with spring vibes. Huge patches of tulips in various colors bloomed across the gardens, with red, yellow, pink, and purple beautifully intertwined. Compared to the massive flower shows in Melbourne or Sydney, I actually find Bowral to be much more laid-back. The town itself isn't huge. After admiring the flowers, you can just wander around the neighborhood, checking out the streets and residential areas without the pressure of rushing to the next spot. 🌸 Spring in the Southern Highlands Located in the Southern Highlands, Bowral enjoys a much cooler climate than Sydney. So, even if you just drive down for half a day, you'll definitely notice the change of scenery and atmosphere. With its sprawling lawns, lush woods, and English-style town architecture—all perfectly paired with spring tulips—it's the ideal spot for a relaxing weekend getaway. 🥐 Gumnut Patisserie After enjoying the blooms, you absolutely cannot miss Bowral's renowned Gumnut Patisserie. It's an extremely popular bakery in the Southern Highlands, famous for its desserts, pastries, and pies. I'd say the best way to go about it is to grab a few treats after your tulip viewing, find a cozy spot to sit down, and savor them at your own pace. Once you've seen the flowers and had your dessert, your half-day itinerary is pretty much perfectly complete. 📍 Bowral | Southern Highlands, NSW 🚗 Getting there: Half-day road trip from Sydney ⭐ Personal recommendation: Flower viewing + town stroll + pastries

This is not your typical tourist garden; it is a dreamlike haven crafted by a passionate gardening enthusiast, a "paradise" cherished by flower lovers and nature photographers alike. ➡️ A Southern Hemisphere Ode Inspired by British Style Established in the 1820s, Red Cow Farm is an ancient farmhouse with nearly a century of history. Today, it stands as one of Australia's most beautiful English-style gardens, spanning 2.5 hectares. The garden's design draws inspiration from classical European horticulture and modern naturalist trends, blending culture and nature seamlessly. Here are some must-visit areas: · The Formal Garden: Symmetrical English geometric designs paired with neatly trimmed boxwood and colorful flowers, showcasing the quintessential British manor style. · The Pond Garden: Willow trees casting shadows, reflections on the water, often attracting birds and insects—this is the most tranquil corner of the garden, ideal for contemplation. · The Secret Garden: A hidden haven behind low walls and hedges, often featuring romantic flower arches and benches, a favorite spot for couples to take photos. · Woodland Walk: A rustic forest trail lined with hydrangeas and ferns, with sunlight filtering through the leaves—perfect for an afternoon stroll. · The Monastery Garden: Inspired by medieval European monastery plant arrangements, blending herb and aromatic gardens to present a different kind of serene beauty. 🎭 Nourishment for Art and the Soul Red Cow Farm is not just visually stunning; it is a place where many travelers find solace for their souls. It does not aim for widespread popularity or commercialized facilities but adheres to the principle of "gardening with heart."
