Tirimbina Natural Reserve is a beautiful example of private conservation in Costa Rica. Located in La Virgen of Sarapiqui, primary and secondary rainforest are preserved in 345 hectares. Great location for bird 🐦 watching. Tirimbina biological reserve has 4 hiking paths open for public, accessed through a hanging bridge, that allows you to walk over the Sarapiqui river (and enjoy the rafting). Restaurant is highly recommended, great service and nice food. Lodge is quite nice, although some rooms have one shared bathroom. Colombian coffe in La Sabana

Near La Sabana, you can find a small and cute coffee shop to spend a nice breakfast, or if you are craving for coffee. Juan Valdez Café has good ambiance, location and nice coffee. Beef empanada is delicious, specially with the local spicy sauce. Chilean style cake was nice but quite hard. Manuel Antonio National Park is located in the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, one of the most beautiful and affordable places you can find. Even voted one of the 25 Most Beautiful Beaches in the World! Marlin Restaurant in Manuel Antonio beach promises the best of happy hour next by a mind-blowing sunset and one of the most gorgeous beaches in Costa Rica. Restaurant is literally 10 steps away from the beach! Food is very nice, burger with cheese 🧀 was better than chicken burger. Ceviche was good, although we had tried better ones. Shrimp 🦐 brochette was great, you are used to small shrimps 🍤 but they brought us a jumbo size, to die for. Happy hour is everyday, after 4:30. Heineken draft 2x1 is one of the best offers we had ever found. At night, they turn on the fire 🔥 lanterns to provide a nice ambience. Explore a grotto with history

In Mora county there is a theme park built inside a mountain, with gorgeous views to Virilla River and grotto paths within a mountain. The grotto takes you to few chambers decorated with different cultures, including ancient Egypt and Greece, Easter Island, Medieval dinner halls and ancient churches. If you buy a Yuplin ticket, you can get inside by half-price ($14, 2 persons) and enjoy a discount in the pizza restaurant. My favorite by far was Divina Comedia pizza, with prosciutto and mushrooms. Eight pieces pizza is perfect for couples, enjoying a cocktail with great view of the mountain or the beautiful sculpture fountain. Guided tour takes 35-40 minutes and starts at 11am. Costa Rica is not only well known for its nature but amazing community life you can experience in traditional towns. Specially, coffee towns ☕️. Dota is a very special county, not only its located at the foothills of Talamanca (highest mountain range ⛰), 1.5 hours from capital San Jose, has an amazing natural forest (San Gerardo de Dota area), but also is one of the popular coffee areas in the country. Santa María de Dota, county head town, is a traditional town. In Costa Rica, the church is always one of the most representative buildings in any town/city. This town has a museum for preservation of their cultural heritage, and had made efforts to keep a traditional lifestyle to attract tourists (national and international). During our visit, it was nice to see homes decorated with ox cars or maintaining their traditional architecture. Santa María is also very close to the Quetzals National Park, ideal for birds watching, sightseeing and definitely hiking tours. San Gerardo de Dota is called a magic cloudy forest land, but can be farther than expected. Visit Golfito beaches

Golfito beach is gorgeous, like many beaches in Costa Rica, inside Golfo Dulce (Sweet Gulf). Golfito town is located very near Golfito National Wildlife Refuge you can go hiking for the day, and next by the Marina ⛵️. Howe I won’t suggest you to try scuba diving 🤿 in this area, there are lots of fishermen and boats around that you can’t fully enjoy the experience. Unless you are told you can do it near wildlife reserve. Sailing ⛵️ in this area is great, you can ask the local fishermen to move you to another beach 🏝 where you will be alone to enjoy nature and your day. La Paz Waterfalls Gardens in Heredia

La Paz Waterfall Gardens Natural Park is one of the most famous tours for tourists in Costa Rica, located only a few hours from San Jose (and 1 hour away from airport). They offer accommodation, restaurants services or just one-day hiking trip into the rainforest and their animal sanctuary. Remember zoos were banned in Costa Rica years ago, only few sanctuaries are open to public as rehabilitation center for many wild animals. La Paz trails includes 5 different waterfalls, a small lake, birds 🐦 , butterflies 🦋 , snakes 🐍 , monkeys 🐵, hummingbirds, orchid station, insects, frogs 🐸 and few jungle cats, like jaguar, ocelots and more 🐆 . Remember to carry a jacket and probably raincoat when you visit, either in summer or rainy season. Temperature in rainforest is always a bit chilly and you will definitely get wet around the waterfalls trails. Carry comfortable shoes, this hike can be exhausting. Outside the gardens, few minutes into the main road (route 126), you can watch the amazing La Paz waterfall that falls. The waterfall is 37m height. This waterfall is also very near Poas volcano 🌋, if you want to spend the night in the gardens you can continue your trip next day to hike around the Poas Volcano National Park, or just visit the crater. Wonders of Playas del Coco - Coco Beach

El Coco, Guanacaste is one of the most popular beaches in Costa Rica. Nothing like having a cold drink while you enjoy the view, walk over the sand and get inside that refreshing blue waters. By looking at the ocean, feeling the warm salty wind in your face, you will see how the time stops just to the sound of the waves. This beach is internationally recognized for diving and surfing. Taking a boat ride to surrounding islets it’s a must. Many tours are available daily for different adventures, depending on your mood. You can also enjoy a beer watching the amazing sunset, while you have some chicharrones (fried pork) or a wonderful steak casado. Don’t forget to add ceviche to whatever meal you’re having, or just with a nice cold drink. It’s extremely important to keep hydrating your body (water & sunscreen) because of the dry weather. Most of Costa Rica’s beaches hold the Ecologic Blue Flag award to demonstrate their commitment with conservation and green community lifestyle, and Playas del Coco is not the exception. Tourists are requested to follow all recycling and clean behavior to minimize impact in local environment. Hidden: Rubber Lagoon, Wildlife refug

The Rubber Lagoon (Laguna de Hule) is located in the National Wildlife Refuge Bosque Alegre, near the Poas volcano and La Paz waterfall. Be aware this area has no structure or entrance fee, as it isn’t a national park. In the lagoon entrance, you find a delicious restaurant to enjoy breakfast and keep yourself strong for all the energy and calories you’ll definitely burn next. For full Costa Rican experience, go for a nice pinto with egg, meat, sour cream and coffee. Now, you’re ready!! First, you are required to descend 500m to the base of the lagoon, this could take around one hour. Additional 2-3 hours to go around the lagoon, find the perfect spot to eat, enjoy your surroundings and even go for a swim! Let me warn you, water might be warm but area in general is cold. However, a trip I have repeated a few times. This is a great spot for bird-watching. Some people mentions this could be an amazing area for kayaking, if you are willing to carry your kayak in a vertical and difficult trek. This location is mostly unknown, therefore has high touristic potential without the crowds you can find in many national parks in Costa Rica. Scenery along the trekking paths is amazing. Be prepared to walk inside the river, to get yourself covered in mud, and don’t forget your waterproof jacket. Stunning sunset colors

I had to wait a whole month to capture this amazing sunset (rainy season in Costa Rica can be harsh). We volunteered at a turtle hatchery in Matapalo, which is a small village on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Our camp was right on the beach. The beach is very quiet, but beautiful and very good for surfing. If it's not raining, you will get gourges, sunset, the most beautiful ones I have ever seen, and on a clear night, you can even see the milkeyway. #volunteerworld #sunset #beach #costarica

In Multiplaza Escazu you can find a great pizza restaurant near the food court. Good ambience, great flavor, and space to enjoy your food. The Crew Pizza 🍕 gives you the option of creating your own pizza by choosing the ingredients, from several options of meat and vegetables. Additionally, they offer you to add fresh basil and olive oil. Roasted wings were simply delicious. They prepare each pizza with care, thin crust, and exactly as you like it. Hiking for 7 waterfalls

Senderos Bar & Restaurante is located in Piedades Sur, San Ramon, about 10 minutes in car from downtown. Hikings are programmed at 8:30am, lunch and guide included. Treks follow 7 different waterfalls, some are quite small but one of them is 17m and you can enjoy the view from the top! This trek is a bit difficult, as the trails are unclear, so guide is necessary. Restaurant and trails are pet friendly. If you prefer, you can decide to relax after the hike by bathing in the waterfall. Enjoying the hills in Naranjo

Costa Rica is well known for its amazing topography and biodiversity. So many hiking/trekking places to discover even for locals. The Western Zone (Zona de Occidente) of the Metropolitarean Area is one of its hidden gems. You have urban towns and nature very close to you, and most towns are connected by very good roads. Naranjo is a small county with many recognized mountains you can visit in one-day trip, couple hours from the capital or even on your way to/from the beach. These mountains are open to people to visit for fun, to sit down and enjoy nature or even have a controlled fire 🔥 at night, camping experience without camping. Although, there are no guards or park rangers is most of these areas so you are responsible for your own safety. Getting a breath with your family and friends, hiking up and down the mountains, only you and those gorgeous natural surroundings, it’s what makes Costa Rica so great. You don’t need to spend money to visit great areas, you just need to know where to find it. Best canopy in Costa Rica: Monteverde

Monteverde is worldly known for its amazing cloud forest and biological reserves. Located 3 hours from San Jose, this small town is one of the best locations to visit for ecotourism. Perfect for outdoor activities, bird watching, hiking, sightseeing, and some indoor museums/gardens also focused to promote conservation. Now, imagine crossing over those gorgeous cloud forests in zip lines. Coming to Costa Rica, or visiting Monteverde without experiencing a canopy tour is a waste. This is an amazing family experience! Should I say, this moment I shared with my sister and my mom was definitely one of the best in life. This particular canopy takes about 2:30 hours, some zip lines are short, one is very long (and scary high!), and changes your life (adrenaline rush). The mystery of the stone spheres

The monoliths of Finca 6 in Diquis, Costa Rica are one of the biggest archaeological mysteries, due to their perfect symmetry and roundness. Since mid 1900’s, over 300 spheres have been found. Not only in Diquis Delta, but in the Isla del Caño (20 km offshore!). Most of them are made from gabbro, few of them from limestone and sandstone. Their origin is suggested between 200 BC-1500 AD. Imagine, the rocks used to crear this spheres are located over 30 miles away from the site. They moved such heavy rocks from a long distance to create this perfect spheres. Why?
