Spain - Casa Vicens, the House of Vicens
The second Gaudí building I like is Casa Vicens.
This is the first house designed by Gaudí.
It was built between 1883 and 1885.
Before 2014, it was a private residence.
After 2017, it was acquired and turned into a museum.
Only then did we have the chance to go in for photos
and listen to the guided tour.
Influenced by neo-Moorish architecture,
there is a large arrangement of geometric patterns.
Decorations with tiles, metal products, and bricks.
Notice that all the iron railings have different floral designs.
Photo 3 shows a small room with a blue to purple gradient, which is the smoking room.
Hey, even the smoking room is so stylish.
It's so beautiful that smokers might want to 'chur' a few more.
Photo 4 is the ceiling of the first room right at the entrance.
It's a place you don't want to leave,
because every corner is beautiful.
Photos 5-7
The design of the terrace and the rooftop.
There are always surprises, like a fairy tale castle🏰.
A little tip🔔 At the underground souvenir shop,
where they sell books, there's a video playing
about the restoration of the entire Casa Vicens.
After watching it and then looking at photos 8-11,
you'll understand why I love this house so much.
A good architect and designer
is responsible for construction and aesthetics,
but it takes good builders
to turn the ideas in their minds into reality.
Gaudí in his earliest days
must have really loved plants and flowers.
You can see his careful thoughts in many delicate details.
Just look at the bricks and wrought iron he used, and you'll know.
A little secret from the trip🤫
is that I foolishly didn't make a reservation
and ended up not being able to enter the Sagrada Familia.
So, I went to this Casa Vicens instead.
Is it a blessing in disguise?
Great trip in Barcelona 🇪🇸

In last summer holiday 2023, I have been Barcelona again to visit and go sightseeing with my family. I will say the architecture in Barcelona are amazing and they all look unique and attractive. The colours and design are great.
Furthermore, I have been a mountain which is called Montserrat which is 1 hour closed to Barcelona. This mountain is gigantic and huge!!
Overall, it was a good trip and I couldn’t wait to come to visit again.

Visit the incredible Casa Batllo in Barcelona
This winter, I had the privilege of exploring Casa Batlló in Barcelona, and it left an indelible mark on my travel memories. The chilly air outside only heightened the warmth of the experience within those architecturally enchanting walls. Gazing at the intricacies of Gaudí's design while surrounded by the cozy, festive atmosphere of Barcelona in winter created a truly magical blend. From the captivating play of light on the mosaic tiles to the timeless elegance of each room, my visit to Casa Batlló was a winter journey filled with awe and appreciation for the artistry that defines this iconic landmark.

Casa Golferichs, Barcelona and its history! 🌴
The Casa Golferichs in Barcelona stands as a testament to architectural brilliance and historical significance. Designed by architect Joan Rubio i Bellver, this Modernist gem was completed in 1901 during the Catalan Art Nouveau movement. Its distinctive features, characterized by intricate ironwork, elaborate facades, and innovative design, contribute to Barcelona's rich architectural tapestry.
Originally commissioned by industrialist Josep Golferichs, the Casa Golferichs was intended to be both a residence and a textile factory. Its eclectic design reflects the convergence of industrial functionality and artistic expression, showcasing the innovative spirit of the time. The building's façade, adorned with ornate iron balconies and intricate details, captures the essence of Modernisme – a cultural and artistic movement that swept through Catalonia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Beyond its architectural significance, the Casa Golferichs played a pivotal role in Barcelona's social and cultural history. Over the years, it has witnessed the city's transformation and served as a backdrop to various cultural events. The building's adaptive reuse, from a residence and factory to a cultural center, speaks to its resilience and ability to evolve with the changing times.
During the Spanish Civil War, the Casa Golferichs became a hub for social and political activities, hosting meetings, discussions, and cultural events. Its walls echoed with the voices of individuals advocating for change and social justice, turning it into a symbol of resilience and community spirit during challenging times.
Today, the Casa Golferichs stands as a living heritage site, preserving not only its architectural marvel but also the stories embedded in its walls. The cultural center within its premises continues to host a diverse array of events, from art exhibitions to lectures, fostering creativity and intellectual exchange.
In conclusion, the Casa Golferichs in Barcelona is more than just an architectural masterpiece; it is a living testament to the city's dynamic history. From its origins as a residence and factory to its role as a cultural hub, this iconic building encapsulates the spirit of Barcelona's past, present, and future. Its preservation and continued relevance underscore the enduring legacy of Modernisme and the profound impact architecture can have on shaping the identity of a city.

Visit the Palau de la musica Catalana! 🏝️🌸
During my enchanting visit to Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona last December, I found myself utterly captivated by the unique blend of architectural grandeur and musical brilliance that defines this cultural gem.
The moment I stepped into the Palau, I was greeted by a visual feast of intricate details and vibrant colors. The Modernisme architecture, designed by the renowned architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, is nothing short of awe-inspiring. From the intricate stained glass windows to the elaborate sculptures, every corner of this UNESCO World Heritage site exudes a sense of artistic opulence.
What made my visit truly unforgettable was the opportunity to attend an orchestra performance within the Palau's majestic hall. The acoustics of the venue are unparalleled, creating an immersive sonic experience that transcended mere listening. The orchestra's harmonious melodies reverberated through the hall, casting a spell on everyone present.
The timing of my visit, amidst the festive December atmosphere, added an extra layer of magic to the experience. The Palau de la Musica Catalana seemed to come alive with holiday spirit, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. The combination of the stunning architecture, exceptional acoustics, and the joyous melodies performed by the orchestra made it a five-star cultural extravaganza.
In conclusion, Palau de la Musica Catalana is not just a concert hall; it's a testament to the intersection of architecture and music, offering visitors a truly immersive and unforgettable journey into the heart of Catalan culture. My December visit, coupled with the orchestra performance, left an indelible mark, making it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a sublime cultural experience in Barcelona.

I had the time of my life in Barcelona! 🌴⛱️
In December, my trip to Barcelona was nothing short of enchanting. Exploring Gaudi's masterpieces, from the surreal Sagrada Familia to the whimsical Park Güell, left me in awe of his architectural genius. The vibrant cityscape, adorned with his unique designs, painted a picturesque backdrop against the mild Mediterranean winter. Barcelona offered a warm escape from the chilly English weather, allowing me to savor tapas under the Spanish sun. The cultural richness, combined with the festive atmosphere, made this journey unforgettable. From the intricacies of Casa Batlló to the warmth of the locals, Barcelona in December was a delightful adventure.
In 2024, I would love to explore other areas of Spain. In particular the historical city of Granada.

Barcelona's Old Town Christmas Market 🎄
#christmas2023
No winter trip to Europe in December is complete without making a beeline for the Christmas Markets. In Barcelona, Spain, Fira de Santa Llúcia (Saint Lucy Christmas Market) is the city's biggest Christmas market where both locals and tourists flock to from end November to end December.
Situated in the city's stunning old town just in front of the imposing Barcelona Cathedral, the Fira de Santa Llúcia has been a yearly spectacle since 1786! It features dozens of stalls and attractions that liven up the atmosphere: artisanal craftsmen of all sorts of products, colorful decoration items and Christmas trees, delicious Christmas snacks, mulled wine and hot chocolate, and no shortage of giant Christmas trees for a quick photo opportunity!
I suggest setting aside about a whole hour to fully soak in the experience at this market, and to try the different snacks and drinks on sale - all traditional! Don't forget to also make friends with the warm locals who will proudly share more about the history behind the market, and of Barcelona itself. This is an enriching experience that one shouldn't miss when in the beautiful city of Barcelona! It's also right in the old town, so be prepared for a full day of adventures!

Staying in the Heart of Barcelona ❤️
#hotelreview
Europe, especially Western Europe, is notorious for being known to have more expensive hotel rates compared to other parts of the globe. However, it's not hard to find certain gems that are affordable without compromising on style and convenience.
One Shot Hotel Aragó 257 is popular among tourists in Barcelona, Spain. It's a trendy boutique hotel, tastefully designed with a modern touch, in the heart of Barcelona along the city's main street: Passeig de Gracia. Situated just 2 minutes from metro and bus stops, and just across Gaudi's Casa Batlló, it's the perfect choice.
Here are some facts about the Standard Room:
- 23 sqm
- Balcony overlooking the beautiful street
- 43" smart LCD TV
- Beautiful marbled bathroom
- Sustainable bathroom amenities
- Comfortable bed (King/Twin option)
The hotel also features a comfortable lounge area with a free coffee and tea making machine. The service was also spectacular: the friendly check-in staff and meticulous housekeeping team made our stay wonderful. Currently, they also offer discounts on multiple-nights stays, so One Shot Hotel Aragó 257 is highly recommended if you want to be close to all the action in Barcelona, while not giving up style and comfort!

Xmas Market at a UNESCO World Heritage Site
#christmas2023
While the Sagrada Familia itself is already a great excuse to hop on a plane to Barcelona, Spain, there's much more magic to it if you visit in Winter. Specifically, in December, with Christmas just around the corner.
Being the work of Barcelona's pride, Gaudí, the Sagrada Familia is famed for being continuously under construction since 1882 - that's 141 years! While it will be completed soon within the next decade, there's so much to see and do.
One shouldn't miss the Sagrada Familia Christmas Market after a tour of the cathedral itself. While not the largest in Barcelona, it has a lot of charm and makes a great photo spot with the Sagrada Familia towering in the background. Treat your senses to a feast: expect colorful Christmas trees and decorations on sale, talented buskers performing, cured meats and ham, fresh cheese, mulled wine, and of course, piping hot churros that go well with thick and velvety hot chocolate. Such a combo goes for only €6, and the serving is huge!
I highly suggest not giving this market a miss. It's situated right by a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and brings out the best of Barcelona and Europe. Drop by for a magical christmas!

Xmas like a local in Barcelona 🇪🇸🎄
#christmas2023
Wherever you go, always go where the locals go for the most authentic experiences. The same applies for Christmas markets in Europe!
In Barcelona, Spain, La Boqueria Market (Mercat in Catalan) has the most extensive, recorded history, dating back to 1217. La Boqueria is where many hotels and restaurants get the freshest produce from each morning. It's a lively place that opens from 8am to 8.30pm, and is the go-to place for locals.
Expect to treat your senses to a feast:
Colorful and delicious chocolates and sweets, as well as fresh fruit juice
A variety of bars that start serving drinks from as early as 8am!
Dozens of eateries featuring fresh breakfast and lunch options
Various freshly cut cured ham, meats, and cheeses that you can enjoy with different wines
Many seafood stalls that sell both fresh seafood and separate cooked seafood menus for you to enjoy
While there, don't forget to try many kinds of Christmas drinks, like mulled wine and hot chocolate. The huge Christmas tree at the entrance also makes for an awesome photo background. My tip would be to go there early in the morning when the market has just come to life, and is less busy.
Do note that in the evening, large groups of more than 10 might be denied entry at a single time. Otherwise, wear comfortable shoes, warm clothing, and have tons of fun!

Top 10 Dining Experiences of My Life🇪🇸
Fismuler in Barcelona offers an excellent dining experience without any arrogance.
The food is EXCELLENT - fresh Catalonian seafood dishes that are creative, yet simple and unpretentious such as a razor claims steamed on a bed of stones or the shrimp tartar.
The interior decor and ambiance are also noteworthy; dark and elegant, yet communal and inviting; this a great place for a date or casual business dinner.
Of all the restaurants I visited during my trip to Barcelona, Fismuler is the only establishment that I still dream about and this is what good chefs and restaurants should strive towards.
A truly delicious, affordable, and elegant experience.

Montjuïc Castle Barcelona 🏰
#familytrip
My recent exploration of Montjuïc Castle in Barcelona was a captivating journey through history set against a stunning backdrop. Perched atop the Montjuïc hill, the castle commands panoramic views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea, providing a breathtaking introduction to its rich heritage.
The castle's historical significance is palpable, having witnessed centuries of transformations. Initially built in the 17th century, it served various purposes over time, including military functions and later as a prison during the Spanish Civil War. The informative exhibitions within the castle narrate its multifaceted past, making the visit both educational and immersive.
The highlight was undoubtedly the expansive terrace offering postcard-perfect views of Barcelona's skyline, from the bustling port to the distant Tibidabo mountain. The surrounding gardens and walkways added to the charm, creating a serene escape within the city.
Nearby attractions include the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc, a mesmerizing spectacle of light and water, and the Joan Miró Foundation, housing a remarkable collection of the artist's works. The cable car ride from Montjuïc to Barceloneta Beach provides a scenic descent, completing the Montjuïc experience.
In summary, Montjuïc Castle is a must-visit, combining historical intrigue with breathtaking vistas. Its central location and proximity to other attractions make it a pivotal stop for anyone eager to unravel Barcelona's diverse tapestry. #spain #barcelona #vacation
La Pedrera-Casa Milà 🇪🇸
#familytrip
My visit to La Pedrera, or Casa Milà, in Barcelona was a spellbinding journey through the genius of Antoni Gaudí. Located on the iconic Passeig de Gràcia, this architectural masterpiece stands as a testament to Gaudí's avant-garde vision.
The undulating stone facade of La Pedrera is a mesmerizing dance of curves and unconventional shapes, making it a hallmark of Modernisme. Exploring the interior, I was captivated by the fluidity of design, with every corner revealing Gaudí's meticulous attention to detail. The rooftop, adorned with surreal chimneys and whimsical sculptures, offered panoramic views of Barcelona, making it a highlight of the visit.
The Espai Gaudí exhibition within the building provided invaluable insights into the architect's life and creative process. The courtyards and the iconic ironwork were additional features that showcased Gaudí's nature-inspired design philosophy.
Situated in the Eixample district, La Pedrera's central location made it a gateway to Barcelona's cultural treasures. The nearby Casa Batlló, also designed by Gaudí, and the high-end boutiques on Passeig de Gràcia added to the allure of the neighborhood.
In conclusion, La Pedrera is not merely a building; it's a symphony of art and architecture that immerses visitors in Gaudí's revolutionary world. A visit here is an essential odyssey for anyone captivated by Barcelona's artistic and cultural heritage. #barcelona #spain #vacation
Balmes Hotel - Barcelona
Balmes hotel provided us a nice and pleasant experience. The hotel had a really good location, it was located in the heart of Barcelona. It was very close to the famous Passeig de Gracia and some iconic landmarks like Casa Batlló and Casa Milà.
Regarding the staff, they were very kind and friendly. The room was very comfortable and clean.
The hotel’s pool and gym were very small. Also, there were only a few sun lounger which all were occupied by other guests so we couldn’t enjoy the terrace at all. If you are a person who enjoys larger pool, it is a consideration to keep in mind. But overall, we have a great stay.

3 amazing days in Andorra
My trip to Spain was the best opportunity to visit Andorra. This small country is located between France and Spain. I traveled directly to Andorra by bus via Barcelona airport (Directbus and Andbus companies have direct buses from Barcelona airport to Andorra la Vella). The cost of a bus ticket on this route is 34 euros. My trip to Andorra is for March 2023 and the prices listed in this guide are all for that period. The place where you get off the bus is the central bus station of this city and from this point you can walk everywhere in Andorra la Vella. My hostel, Barri Antic Hostel & Pub, was only a 7 minute walk from this bus stop.
Accommodation in Andorra is much cheaper than in the cities of Spain and France. For example, a double room in this hostel with private bathroom cost 30 euros per night. This was the same price as a bed in the dormitories of the hostel I booked in Barcelona.
Best places to visit in Andorra:
Casa de la Vall , Placa de la Rotonda and Noblesa del temps, Caldea Spa and Madriu-Perafita-Claror valley
If you spend a night in the mountains, you'll save €30 (the price of a double room in a hostel for one night) and now you deserve to enjoy three dreamy hours at the Caldea Spa. I will not forget this small but very beautiful country, and if you have a trip to Barcelona or the South of France, you should not miss this opportunity.

Barceloneta Beach, Barcelona 🇪🇸☀️🌊⛱️
#timetotravel
We visited the Barceloneta Beach the morning on our last day in Barcelona, it was such a shame that we did not have time to fully enjoy the beach (swim and tan). But it’s okay, next time I will be back.
My friends and I were walking from one end of the beach to the other and it was then we realised the beach is massive!!! This is amazing so that visitors are more spaced out and the beach is less cramped with visitors.
When we reached the end of the beach, we entered a restaurant called Opium Barcelona (which is also a disco club at night). We ordered a seafood paella and it was MASSIVE (see pic 5 of my friend’s head for comparison), we definitely did not expect the portion to be so big hahahhaa. Considering the portion, the restaurant is reasonably priced.

Yet another Gaudi attraction in Barcelona 🇪🇸🔔⛪️
#timetotravel
La Sagrada Família is a magnificent, forrest inspired church by Gaudi.
We booked tickets (with tower visit) 2 weeks in advanced but the guided tours were already sold out!! What in the world 🙄, so be advised to book really realllly in advance.
Although we couldn’t join the guided tour, we downloaded the official app on our phone which gives audio guide to different parts of the church. This feature is amazing!!!!
Before our visit, we read about the dress code and thus we dressed quite modestly (no tank tops and shorts) but turns out they don’t really care and we saw loads of other tourists in revealing clothes…
We booked the tickets with tower visit and we had to put our bigger bags into one of those lockers by the door. We were transported up to the tower by their lifts and it was a very futuristic moment!! However, I would say the tower visit is a let down because the church has ongoing constructions and the views are blocked by the scaffolding…
Note: we also had to go thru security screening before entering the church but they do allow food and drinks so don’t be too alarmed!
