Admiring the architecture in Havana
#bucketlistreboot
Havana is the capital and the largest city in Cuba. It is such a fascinating place; socially and culturally steeped in recent history. We heard so much about the country and yet we know and see so little of it.
Not many citizens can visit the country without visa so do not forget to check the requirement before travelling. Most travellers should be able to obtain a tourist card that grants a maximum stay of 30 days.
Walking in the city of Havana is like stepping back into history. There has been different artistic influence on the city and therefore the architecture of the city is truly eclectic and never ceases to wonder. #havana #cuba
Informative, historic museum
The museum of the Revolution is housed in a beautiful building: the former presidential palace to all presidents of Cuba prior to the Cuban revolution.
The museum's main highlight is the Cuban revolution and seeks to inform its visitors about the event, the Cuban struggle for independence and the events leading up to it. As such, many artifacts from that time are also displayed in the museum. This includes several aircrafts in the back, as well as a tank at the entrance.
Apart from this, it's simply amazing to wander the grand rooms of this building and it really shows the lavish opulence of the leaders of the time. The building itself is grand and majestic and is another prime example of neo-classical architecture. The museum is also home to several powerful and color paintings.
Overall, the museum is quite informative and there are interesting exhibits. It chronicles the Cuban revolution and is housed in a beautiful building that still stands majestically. Highly recommend as a museum to visit if in Havana.

Havana: an energetic city filled with history
Havana, the capital and largest city in Cuba is sight to behold. Several parts of the city seemed to have been frozen in time and its lovely architecture is just awaiting discovery.
The historic center of Havana is lovely; art déco buildings are juxtaposed harmoniously against colorful colonial styled buildings. You'll be greeted by majestic art déco theatres and hotels that are picture perfect. The presence of 1950s cars further adds to this allure. A bit further you'll find lovely Spanish styled squares complete with colonial styled cathedrals and churches that are majestic and beautiful in its own way. Being the capital of the country, you'll also find pieces of Cuba's revolutionary past. This is most notable in Plaza de la Revolucion, a part of town that is filled with Brutalist styled buildings and monuments. It is nonetheless very interesting to visit and has an iconic Che Guevara façade. Finally don't forget to spend some time chilling and relaxing along the sea, the Malecon. It's a great place to actually eat, while admiring the city and the sea that surrounds it.
Overall, Havana is an absolute gem. You'll find majestic art déco 1950s buildings alongside colonial cathedrals and squares. You'll also find grand monuments that honor its revolutionary past. A great city full of life, energy and discoveries!

Calm and pretty beach near historic Trinidad
Playa Ancon can be described as a sort of resort town. The main attraction is of course the beach.
Playa Ancon is located a good 25 mins by transport from Trinidad, making it an excellent day trip if you want some sun and beach! You can also choose to sleep there as there are several beachfront hotel properties. You'll find restaurants along the beach, as well, offering western options. You can get to the beach by taxi collectivo, taxi or bus. It isn't too expensive even if you take a taxi; just make sure you agree upon the price beforehand.
The beach itself is quite clean and the water is very blue. When I was there it wasn't overly crowded so it made for a calm excursion. As such, there was plenty of space on the beach for everyone to not only suntan by to get in the water as well without being in a sea of people. Other facilities seemed to be scarce as it was geared towards hotel stayers.
Overall, head to Playa Ancon if you want a short and close day trip to the beach from Trinidad. Transportation is convenient and not too expensive and you'll find a clean and calm beach for your enjoyment!

Charming colonial town
Trinidad is a small UNESCO town in Cuba that feels like you're in a dream. Its cobblestone streets and historic colonial center adds to the overall charm of the village.
The village isn't overly big and everything is quite navigable on foot.
The heart of the village is Plaza Mayor. The square is a bustling center of activity and the colored buildings lining the square make for very lovely pictures. The village is especially magical in the light of dusk. The village is home to numerous museums, which some have amazing vantage points over the city. The Convento de San Francisco is a cannot miss and a symbol of the city. Spend a day or two wandering around the village's many streets to discover the true beauty of the village.
Overall, an absolute must see if you're in Cuba. The lovely colorful houses and cobblestone streets are scenes from books and you'll understand why it's a UNESCO sight the minute you set your sights on the village.

Picturesque neoclassical city in Cuba
Cienfuegos is a cute small city in the heart of Cuba. It's a lovely planned city with many neoclassical buildings.
The main attraction of the city is simply to stroll around and admire the many colonial buildings. Stroll along the many large and carefully designed avenues that are lined with trees, making it very relaxing and giving the city an European feel. Paseo El Prado is a great example of this and it is dotted with statues.
A quick turn around the corner will lead you to Parque Jose Marti, which is the main square of the city. It's a lovely square with lots of cute buildings that surround it. There are also several hotels and restaurants in the area.
Going back on Paseo El Prado, if you continue, you'll be greeted by lovely views of the bay. It's a lovely place to sit by and relax with a drink.
Overall, Cienfuegos is definitely a laid back, picturesque city where you'll find neoclassical architecture, wide boulevards and cute city squares; a city full of culture!
