Greyfriars Kirkland 🪦⚡️
Greyfriars Kirkyard is a popular spot on many tour routes through Edinburgh but it’s a must see on a Harry Potter tour.
🪦Nestled within Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, Greyfriars Kirkland stands as a testament to centuries of Scottish history, its burial grounds echoing with tales of the past since the 16th century. Renowned author JK Rowling famously frequented this sacred space, drawing inspiration from the weathered gravestones and evocative names that pepper the landscape. Notably, the name Thomas Riddell, believed to have sparked the creation of the infamous Voldemort, captures the imagination of visitors. For a mere 50p, one can acquire a map pinpointing the locations of these literary treasures, adding depth to the experience.
However, it’s not just fictional characters that inhabit these grounds; beside the West entrance lies the resting place of Greyfriars Bobby, the beloved and loyal canine whose legendary devotion continues to captivate hearts. Visitors pay homage to this faithful friend by leaving sticks at his gravestone, a touching tribute to his enduring legacy. Greyfriars Kirkland offers more than a glimpse into the past; it’s a poignant reminder of the intertwined nature of history, literature, and the enduring spirit of loyalty.

National Library of Scotland
I enjoy a library break as much as any reader does so when I wandered past The National Library, I had to visit inside. Currently the library has 2 exhibits running, these are small but incredibly interesting - I particularly enjoyed reading and looking at the information surrounding Scottish Folktales.
There is some interactivity included in the exhibits but mostly it’s built on enjoyment of history.
Visit the shop after to see a selection of Scottish based books, these are really different to what you would find waiting in Waterstones.

A Meal with a View!
Cold Town House is one of the many places listed in ‘must see bars’ for Edinburgh. It’s easy to see why, the old style architecture located beside the Edinburgh Castle is beautiful.
Booking is recommended as it does get busy, I had booked the roof terrace which was fully heated and offered some views of the castle. It’s also decorated in a winters style currently so enjoy that too!
For food I opted for Leith pizza - delicious and huge!
Drinks wise - well Irn Bru is a must when in Scotland!
A 10% service charge is included and I spent £22 in total (not an expensive place at all)

The Milkman Edinburgh
Edinburgh is a delightful city to explore and has a number of recommended places to see. The Milkman cafe is one of these must do cafes.
The Milkman has 2 locations, both on Cockburn Street and I visited the slightly bigger branch for a tasty treat.
I had the White Hot chocolate and it’s divine! The food available here is croissants and cakes but they also taste amazing. Treat yourself while in Edinburgh and try one of their locations.

A Fascinating Walk at Royal Mile🏴
#timetotravel
The Royal Mile is one of the tourist attractions in Edinburgh and is not to be missed. Love the architecture and the entire vibe of the high street. There are a lot going on, there are street performers, restaurants, cafes , souvenir shops and pubs. We really enjoyed walking down the Royal Mile. What more can a tourist want and need when Royal Mile has it all? Just be aware that everything here is a little pricey so prepare to spend more for food. Also, it requires a lot of walking and there is a steep incline so just take your time. You can just stop at a pub for a drink then resume a later. Enjoy your stroll!

So much to see at National Museum of Scotland
There are so many interesting and free museums in Edinburgh but if there is only time to see one, I would definitely pick the National Museum of Scotland. The exhibits on display include many areas of sciences, including archaeology, astronomy, geology, social science, modern technology and even fashion and history. Many of the displays are interactive and suitable for everyone of all ages. Hiking up Arthur’s Seat
This is definitely a must do in Edinburgh. Arthur’s Seat is about 20 min walk from city center. The entrance to the hill is clearly marked with sign post. As it is a popular hiking trail, there will likely be others going up the same route. The total height is only 250m, and the slope going up is very gentle. When I visited in May, the hill was blooming with beautiful flowers. The panoramic view at the top is breathtaking. As you walk downhill, make sure to see St Anthony’s Chapel ruin and the swans at St Margaret’s Loch. Reserve 1-2 hours for this relaxing activity.
