Was shopping at Rivervale Mall and saw this popular HK Dim Sum in 1 of the stalls. They started at Mei Ling Street but it’s too far for me. Now that they are in Sengkang, I jumped in straight away.
The first dish to try whether the dim sum is good or not is to taste the most classic dishes, aka Har Gow and Siew Mai.
Love their Har Gow as it is big with generous filling of whole prawn wrapped in thin and chewy skin. We liked it so much that we went to order another basket.
As for Siew Mai, it’s very meaty and flavourful. Great for those who loves it meaty.
Also got the steamed chicken feet which is braised in black pepper sauce. It’s not common as most dim sum restaurants will usually braised it in honey sweet sauce. It’s very nice and not overshadowed by the black pepper spiciness.
Their fried carrot cake is also quite special as it’s not typically pan-fried. But instead it’s coated in light batter in quick deep fried. The carrot cake is so soft but still firm. It doesn’t crumble down at first bite.
It’s a very satisfying tea break and they indeed live up to their name. I read that the founder used to be a dim sum head chef with famous Chinese restaurants in 5* luxury hotels in Singapore. And he wants to bring good quality dim sum at affordable prices to the masses. Hence he opens up stalls in coffee shops and Food courts.
They have since opened up many other outlets round the island. Another good thing here is, use the Food Junction card to get a 10% discount when paying for your order.

Missing so long for egg custard bun so much, almost the best i’ve tried, top favorite food here, for quite long a while didn’t eat here, missing quite! After renovation, it should be done for few years ago, the environment is so neat and comfortable here, feeling home here(;
Egg Custard Bun is the one i missing most, the color has changed to a yellow one haa, the size is still the same though the bun layer seems become thicker, it used to be so thin, and less custard sauces insides, it used to melt outsides, the quality seems less good as i think sadly honestly, used to be the best egg custard i ever tried saddd but it still a good one, just not in masterpiece level, a bit disappointed
Chicken Wings in honey spicy sauce surprised me soso much!!! the taste and texture are both so good! the honey taste is so strong and the sweetness is just good yayaya, honestly so surprising! chicken wings are so crispy too, indeed a signature dishes here haaa, good recommendation ya
Steamed Shrimp dumplings is not bad having good taste
Steamed Siu Mai my all time favorite too, though the one here is just soso
Steamed Chicken feet in black bean sauce having good taste, the chicken feet is soft too
Beancurd sheet roll with mushroom isn’t bad
Deep fried Wonton looking soso evil haa
Salty spicy tofu, i love this one so much too, crispy outsides and super soft insides with yummy seasoning, simply perfect one!
We also ordered a Yeung Chow noodles with seafood, pork and chicken in soup which tastes good, the soup is quite creamy
Steamed egg custard bun indeed disappointed me a bit , though overall the food is yummy here haa, and the environment and feeling is good(;

For a while we didn’t come for yumcha and the dishes choices changed a bit and some foods surprised me and just wanna write a updated version haa
Ohhh so good to try this Big Big Egg Yolk Custard Bun, i was so surprised with the price why so cheap and finally sense that is for One Bun lolll but it comes surprising good i like the big big one so cutee, honestly is one of my best custard bun i’d haaa in this big size haa, having many custard sauces insides, so good, so full after having a whole bun myself, too heavy and fullll! Such a good and lovely one too haa, such a double size as the normal one haa
Siu Mai not having good outlook and it’s funny to have some char siu on the top lollll first time seeing this lolll so shocking laugh jor
Steamed Shrimp Rice Roll is good with soft and smooth roll layer, the shrimp is pleasantly chewy quite good
Chicken feet and ribs rice isn’t too bad, i like soft texture of rice haa, but the waiter is too funny telling us the rice is salty enough and not need soy bean sauce after she adding soya sauce insides… lollll
Steamed Beancurd Sheet rolls with chicken having dry texture of chicken
The environment isn’t bad but so horrible there is a small crocodile running in the table in the middle of our meal, so crazy….i can’t accept this damnnnn, some foods quite outstanding though overall i think the one we usually eat better than here ha, not bad have a try for big big custard bun ha

First time coming this Joyous Gate having yum cha, when we just get in, the green jade environment makes you feeling relaxed and good match with the old styled light, you simply feeling delighted sitting here haa so niceee
There’re several signature dishes here, and we got to try them haaa, Steamed Baby Abalone Siu Mai is one of the signature dishes, as a big fan of siu mai, i would say the taste and texture of siu mai is good, though abalone is just fine for me loll haaa, honestly i am not so with abalone, but just a gimmick one, indeed a baby one ha
i’m in love with the crispy special spring rolls with cheese and mixed seafood, seem the best dishes here, honestly i didn’t expect this high standard before i have it even i know it’s awarded as best culinary, we put this as our last dishes to eat but still maintain crispy layer and slight radish slices but it won’t be too oily just in perfect texture and very good ingredients, having a shrimp and small mushrooms with strong cheese flavorrr, yeayeaaa best friend of cheese is meee haaa, just perfect dim sum i got here in Joyous Gate yayaya
Steamed Rice Rolls with roasted pork is good with soft and smooth layer, the insides pork is yummy too
Steamed Egg Custard Bun is a bit disappointed us sadly, small is one point, insufficient egg custard sauce is second point, you won’t feel very satisfied after having a bun, and saddest thing is most egg custard left out of bun before we having it so sadddd, not a good one i would say, not in good standard sad
Steamed shrimp dumplings with baby vegetables is not bad with thin layer like the rice roll one, and mixed vegetables are nice too , in a good standard ya
Steamed pork ribs rice with chicken feets having good standard of texture and pork ribs is good too though my mom said it’s a bit undercooked haa
The food quality is relatively good here with one to two yummy signature dishes, and the green jade environment making you feel good and comfy, such a nice yum cha choice haaa

Red Door is for Yam Cha, offering general dimsum like Har Gow with thin transparent wrapping of prawn and crab, Shumai of pork or beef, Shanghai dumpling either steam or fried etc.
Not only serving tea in pot but also various of spirit from beer, wine and alcohol too.
The price is quite affordable from around A$10 per dish onwards.
It’s a great place for gathering at a round table and sharing food.
The interior is such a fun with background of red and abundant of traditional Chinese decos for photo snaps.

Bygone tasty HK tradition
Amongst the bustling and glitzy skyscrapers of HK, lie some vestiges of old HK, which can be manifested in it's food culture.
HK is known for its food and dim sum is a great example of these. Of course you can head to restaurants for it but for a more authentic and nostalgic taste, head to some of the older tea houses. These can be found in less busy neighborhoods, which cater to the every day person. You're treated as a regular of the neighborhood and service is casual and friendly. For the dimsum, simply ask for what's available. They'll either name it or bring them in for you to choose. They're tasty and full of substance. The setting is will also make you feel like you stepped back in time!
Head over to a tea house for an authentic nostalgic and tasty experience. Just make sure you go a bit earlier as they do have afternoon break and make sure to bring cash!

RED Emperor- All you can eat YUM CHA
All you can eat yum cha in China town little Bourke st, Melbourne. It was excellent service.
I have eaten at many yum cha places over the years all over the world. This place at Red emperor is the best one I have had so far. The dumplings were amazing and fresh. The menu was unbelievable. The price was 60 dollars per person and I will definitely be back!
If you know #yumcha you can also add more dishes to your table, not just the ones on the trolley.
