Finding halal food is the most challenging moment during travelling. But the good thing in Kunming, there is a street called Shuncheng Street that offers various type of halal food. There are bakery, hotpot, bbq, snack and even grocery. Also got a mosque. #discoverchina

Copy my homework for accommodation to avoid price spikes when booking last minute 💼. In Yuxi's Hongta District, I recommend the areas around Nie Er Music Square, Xiaomiao Street, and Wanda Plaza. They're convenient for walking and hitting the night markets. Budget options are sometimes just over CNY 100, comfort hotels like Jinglan, Jinda, and Meihao are around CNY 140–170, upscale options like Atour, Litang, and Jianguo Puyin are CNY 210–280, and luxury hotels like Pullman and Hongta Hotel are CNY 350–450 🛏️. When visiting Fuxian Lake, don't insist on staying at "influencer" lake-view hotels. September sees big fluctuations between low and peak seasons. Chain hotels in Chengjiang County are CNY 150–300, while homestays in Luchong, Gushan, and Taiyangshan are typically CNY 250–500. Honestly, if you're just here for the lake and not to lounge at the hotel, stay in Chengjiang or Hongta. It's easier to drive around the lake. If you book last minute on a weekend, prices will skyrocket to the point of disbelief. It's safest to lock in your booking on Trip.com two or three days in advance 📲. Here's a breakdown of the popular costs 💰. September isn't the most expensive time in Yuxi, but there are many traps around the lake. Fuxian Lake itself is free. Admission to Luchong is around CNY 15, and climbing Bijiashan is included. Tickets for Mingxing Yudong are CNY 15. Sailing is extra: a catamaran at Luchong is about CNY 128, a monohull is CNY 166, and a standard Fuxian Lake sailing experience is around CNY 159. Sharing a boat at Gushan is CNY 166, while chartering a boat is very expensive when split per person 🚤. Tickets for Xiushan in Tonghai are just over CNY 9, and CNY 5 for students—an incredible value 🌿. Don't be foolish and eat right at the main entrance of scenic spots: cold rice noodles are CNY 8–15, fried potatoes are CNY 6–10, and copper pot potato rice is CNY 15–25. Copper pot fish by the lake using common grass carp costs CNY 50–80 per person; ordering "rare" lake fish can cost CNY 80–150 per pot. Ask about the weight before ordering, or you'll be shocked when the bill comes 😵. In the city, eel rice noodles, iced rice porridge, and papaya water are generally around CNY 10. Eating and exploring Xiaomiao Street is much more budget-friendly than by the lake. Here's my lazy, non-rushed itinerary—feel free to copy it 🚗. Day 1: A slow stroll in Hongta. Take photos at Nie Er Music Square, see the landmark at Hongtashan for free, eat cold rice noodles and iced rice porridge at Xiaomiao Street, and head back to the hotel to use a face mask at night. Day 2: Relax at Fuxian Lake. In the morning, visit the Chengjiang Fossil Site Museum (book in advance for free entry) to enjoy the air conditioning. For lunch, have copper pot fish and potato rice at a homestay in Luchong or the village; don't order expensive fish or trust people soliciting customers on the street. In the afternoon, pick just one spot: hike Bijiashan in Luchong for 20 minutes to see the lake, or pay the CNY 15 admission for Mingxing Yudong to walk on the shallows and watch the waterwheel fishing. Only go sailing if it fits your budget. In the evening, head back to Chengjiang to see the lake. If you don't want to deal with crowds, skip Moon Bay to avoid waiting in line 🌅. Day 3: Optional trip to Tonghai. Spend two hours at Xiushan for CNY 9, eat sweet fermented rice wine and buy bean powder candy in the ancient town, then take a walk along the Qilu Lake boardwalk before heading back. Trying to cram Ailaoshan and Gushan in Jiangchuan into this is a bad idea. You'll be exhausted by the third day. To be honest, the weather in September is a bit unpredictable 🌦️. Daytime temperatures in the 20s are quite comfortable, but it can drop to the teens in the morning and evening, and the wind by the lake can be chilly. Don't wear white sneakers; you'll regret it if the boardwalks are dirty after rain. Keep a light jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a folding umbrella in your bag at all times 🧴. The UV rays at Fuxian Lake are strong; you'll suffer if you don't wear sunscreen. Use official channels for water activities. Avoid private boats, cheap lake tours, and scalpers at the entrance. Only walk on designated shallows by the lake and don't go into the water on your own; safety is more important than getting the perfect photo. If traveling with seniors or children, don't overpack your schedule. Two main spots a day is enough; if you plan your itinerary like a military training camp, you'll just end up stressed 🫠. A few more tips to avoid food traps 🍜. When ordering copper pot fish, ask if it's common fish or a pricey specialty fish, and whether it's charged by weight or by the pot. For the dipping sauce, ask the owner for the local style: roasted chili with vinegar. Cold rice noodles are usually sweet, sour, and spicy by default; tell them in advance if you don't eat spicy food. Many "century-old shops" along the scenic streets just have old decor, not old recipes. For authentic food, go back to the old town of Hongta or Tonghai. Don't make impulse purchases of silverfish, lotus root starch, or bean powder candy at lake-side stalls. Check your hotel on Trip.com, then stop by a city supermarket on your way; prices are much more stable there 🛒. Overall, a three-day, two-night trip with one night in Hongta and one in Chengjiang is the most comfortable. If you don't splurge on lake-view rooms or private boat charters, you can have a very decent trip for just over CNY 1,000 per person ✨.

I've visited Yuxi 6 times and know this small town in central Yunnan inside out! Compared to the crowds in Dali and Lijiang, Yuxi is a seriously underrated gem—affordable prices, a relaxed pace, and every photo is wallpaper-worthy. National Day is almost here, so I'm sharing my secret guide. Just follow this itinerary! 🗺️ 2-Day, 1-Night Itinerary Day 1 Hongta District · City Walk Start your morning at the Nie Er Memorial Hall to learn the story behind the national anthem. Then, head to the Qinghua Street morning market to browse for local produce and handmade trinkets—it's a lot of fun. For lunch, enjoy authentic soy sauce chicken with kung pao meat; it's delicious. In the afternoon, start your city walk, passing by Nie Er's former residence, Yuxi Old Street, and Xiaomiao Street to soak in the local atmosphere. At night, head straight to Yousuo Food City for barbecue and cold beer. This is what Yuxi nightlife is all about. Day 2 Fuxian Lake · Crystal-Clear Waters Head to Fuxian Lake in the morning. Your first stop is Wanzigou, where white pebble beaches and willow trees create an unreal, tranquil scene. For lunch, you must try copper pot fish with potato rice—it's incredibly fresh. In the afternoon, head to Mingxing Fish Cave to experience sailing and kayaking, and catch a glimpse of the unique local water-wheel fishing technique. In the evening, watch the sunset from a lakeside cafe as golden light spills over the water—it's incredibly soothing. 🍜 Must-Eat List There are so many delicious things in Yuxi; don't miss these: · Eel rice noodles: Savory eel with smooth rice noodles, add a handful of mint leaves for a rich texture · Cold rice noodles: Chewy rice noodles with meat sauce and pea starch jelly; the sweet, sour, and spicy flavors are unforgettable · Iced rice porridge: Glutinous rice porridge cooled down and topped with brown sugar and candied fruit; it's refreshing, sweet, and perfect after barbecue · Pine needle roasted duck: Roasted with pine needles, the skin is crispy, the meat is tender, and it has a unique fragrance · Copper pot fish: Caught and cooked fresh by Fuxian Lake; the fish is tender and the broth is sweet · Beicheng baked flatbread: Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside; a taste locals have grown up with I also highly recommend the stone pot fish by Fuxian Lake! They use a straw hat as a lid to lock in the freshness of the fish. Drink a bowl of soup before eating the meat—it's incredibly delicious. 🏨 Where to stay Stay in Hongta District in the city: Convenient for shopping and dining. Nie Er Music Square and Taobao Street Night Market are nearby, making it easy to grab a late-night snack. Stay by Fuxian Lake: If you want to see the sunrise over the lake, choose this area. You'll wake up to views of the crystal-clear lake and can capture stunning morning photos without even leaving your room. 📸 Best Photo Spots Longma Mountain: A half-hour drive to escape the city. Climb the 999-step ladder to the top, where the entire Yuxi basin unfolds before your eyes. The sunset and blue hour in the evening make for cinematic photos. Jiulongchi Park: Free! The light is softest from 3:00 PM–5:00 PM. The green pool water reflects the ancient trees. Stand at the corner with red walls and grey tiles wearing a light-colored dress for a cool, traditional Chinese vibe. Fuxian Lake North Shore Red Beach: Natural pink sand beach with deep blue lake water. The contrasting colors are especially stunning when shot with a drone. Tonghai Ancient Town Old Street: Bluestone roads paired with the pavilions and towers of Xiushan Park create a classic, picturesque scene. ⚠️ Travel Tips (Important!) 1. Weather is the biggest variable. Rain in Yuxi can come out of nowhere. Fuxian Lake on a cloudy day is gray and lacks the jelly-blue transparency of a sunny day. Check the weather forecast before you leave. 2. Don't pay for private viewing spots by the lake. Locals set up viewing platforms on the side of the road and charge CNY 10–20. The view is the same as the free spots by the road. It's a total rip-off, don't be a sucker. 3. Attractions around the lake are scattered, so plan ahead. Fuxian Lake is huge, and the distance between spots is not short. Rushing around in one day is exhausting. I recommend choosing 2–3 core attractions for a deeper experience rather than trying to see everything. 4. Choose reputable restaurants for fish. The quality of lakeside restaurants varies. Choose a legitimate local fish restaurant and don't be tempted by cheap, nameless stalls on the side of the road. 5. The UV rays are very strong, don't be lazy with sunscreen. The high-altitude sun is unshielded. It might not feel hot, but you can get sunburned and peel in 2 hours. UV rays are also strong on cloudy days, so make sure to apply enough sunscreen. 6. Do not enter restricted areas of Ailao Mountain. You can safely visit the developed parts of the scenic area, but the deep areas have complex terrain and wild animals. Entering unauthorized areas is strictly prohibited. During the National Day holiday, Yuxi will also host plenty of cultural and sports activities, including choir performances, street dance competitions, and cycling challenges, creating a fantastic atmosphere.

Tonghai Xiushan | A thousand-year cultural legacy hidden in a small town in central Yunnan🌿 I found a hidden gem on my first solo trip! Tonghai Xiushan Park really surprised me✨ The last place that moved me this much was Weishan Ancient City, and the vibe is very similar! But this place has a unique sense of tranquility~ 📍Tonghai Xiushan Park, Yuxi 🎫Admission: CNY 10/person 🕑Duration: Approx. 3 hours ⛰️The terrain is gentle and easy to hike, no strain on the legs at all! You can reach Yongjin Temple at the summit in just half an hour of climbing—beginner-friendly! Xiushan, historically known as Yuyin Mountain, is a famous cultural mountain in southern Yunnan🏔️ Like Weibao Mountain, ancient temples are hidden in the serene forest, but it is easier to climb~ Over the centuries, countless scholars and poets have left behind plaques, couplets, and stone inscriptions, earning it the reputation of a "mountain of plaques and sea of couplets"! Walking slowly up the stone steps, soft moss spreads along the corners of the walls, and lush greenery wraps around the ancient buildings. You might even encounter a lazy cat along the way🐱 Look up, and you can overlook Tonghai Ancient City and Qilu Lake. This is truly a magical hidden gem in central Yunnan❗️ 🗺️Itinerary: ✔️Yuxiu Archway → Sanyuan Palace: The first group of ancient buildings upon entering the park, featuring red walls with reliefs and numerous couplets. The path is gentle and easy to walk ✔️Dengying Bridge, Panfu Shrine → Puguang Temple: The oldest building complex in Xiushan. The Yuan Dynasty "Zhizhao Lanruo Stele" is worth a close look, and the lush ancient trees create a great atmosphere ✔️Yuhuang Pavilion: The Ming Dynasty Hongyun Hall, with the inscription "Xuanzhen Tianshang" on the stone archway. A Taoist courtyard with exquisite architecture ✔️Qingliang Terrace (Highly recommended!): The highlight of Xiushan, where the most plaques and couplets are concentrated. The former residence of Zhu De is located here. The ancient hall is cool, and looking out from the railing over the Tonghai Basin offers an incredibly wide view ✔️Yongjin Temple (Summit core): The largest ancient temple in Xiushan, first built in the Southern Song Dynasty. It boasts the "Three Wonders of Xiushan": Song Dynasty cypress, Yuan Dynasty fir, and Ming Dynasty magnolia🌲 The Gubo Pavilion is a nail-free wooden structure. Reaching the top is the perfect photo spot to overlook the county town and Qilu Lake📸 ✔️Bailong Temple (Optional): Continue upward from Yongjin Temple. With babbling springs and a quiet courtyard, it is worth a visit if you have the energy ❗️Tips: 1️⃣There is a parking lot at the entrance, making it car-friendly. Just search for "Tonghai Museum" in your navigation 2️⃣Xiushan is adjacent to the Tonghai Confucian Temple. You can plan a half-day trip to visit Tonghai Ancient City, the Confucian Temple, and Xiushan Park all at once 3️⃣It is recommended to go in the morning when the temperature is cool and the morning light shines on the ancient buildings—the light and shadow are truly stunning🌅 4️⃣There are many steps on the mountain, and the moss can be slippery, so be sure to wear non-slip shoes! 5️⃣The biggest highlight of Xiushan is the couplets and plaques scattered throughout the mountain. Be sure to slow down and take your time to appreciate the stone inscriptions and ancient architecture If you are traveling from Kunming to Tonghai, I recommend staying at the Vienna International Hotel (Kunming South Railway Station Municipal Government Branch) on your return trip. It has convenient transportation, allowing you to rest comfortably after your journey🛏️ The roof decorations of the ancient buildings look even more charming against the backdrop of green trees. I was truly stunned by the cultural heritage of this small town in central Yunnan this time!

The biggest surprise about this hotel wasn't the room itself, but the complete overall experience. The location is quite good, close to Jukui Pavilion, Xiushan, and Qilu Lake. It's very convenient whether you're going to the ancient town for food, taking a walk at Xiushan, or enjoying the scenery at Qilu Lake. There was a welcome gift upon check-in, and they even included an admission ticket to Xiushan, which is very practical for tourists. The bedding in the room is very comfortable, and the rose bath salts for soaking added a nice touch of ritual to the experience—it was so relaxing to soak after a tiring day. The complimentary buffet afternoon tea was a pleasant surprise. It wasn't just some perfunctory dessert spread, but something you could actually sit down, enjoy, and take photos of. The terrace is also perfect for reading, zoning out, or sunbathing. Staying here doesn't make you feel like you're rushing through your itinerary. Overall, this Landun Hotel is the type that has aesthetic details and unobtrusive service. It's suitable for couples, weekend getaways with friends, or people like me who just want to find a place to relax properly.

Looking for a Yunnan destination for National Day that's uncrowded, has clear water, is relaxing, and is perfect for photos? Fuxian Lake is the top choice! It's perfect for a laid-back vacation, a romantic getaway, or a slow-paced family trip. It's the best value destination around Kunming for the National Day holiday✨ 📍Location Chengjiang, Yuxi, Yunnan Province Just a 1-hour drive from Kunming, this is a hidden gem of a deep-water freshwater lake in Yunnan. Seriously, guys! This 3-day, 2-night trip to Yuxi made me fall completely in love with this small city in central Yunnan 🏞️. The crystal-clear Fuxian Lake + the mysterious Ailao Mountains + streets full of carb-loaded happiness—it's top-tier! Here is my comprehensive guide. If you're planning a trip to Yunnan, just follow this itinerary 📝💫 🚄 Transportation: Take the high-speed train to Yuxi Station 🚉. It takes 30 mins from Kunming and costs about CNY 40—super convenient! Within the city, you can ride shared e-scooters for CNY 2/15 mins 🛵; it's cheap and flexible. For Fuxian Lake, I recommend renting a car. Renting from Kunming South Station for 2 days costs about CNY 400 🚗, giving you the freedom to drive the 100 km loop. For the Ailao Mountains, I recommend hiring a car for about CNY 300/day. The mountain roads are winding, so beginners should be careful. 🏨 Accommodation: For an immersive lake view, stay along the shores of Fuxian Lake 🏡. Moroccan-style homestays in Xiaowan Village are about CNY 300/night, and the sunset views from the window are incredible. For convenient dining and shopping, stay in the Hongta District city center 🌃. Budget hotels are about CNY 200/night, with easy access to night market snacks. To experience the slow pace of a small town, stay in Tonghai County 🏯. Guesthouses are about CNY 150/night, and a morning stroll through Xiushan is super healing. 💸 Budget (3 days, 2 nights): You can do it for CNY 1,000 per person! 💰 Round-trip high-speed train is about CNY 80, accommodation CNY 400, admission tickets CNY 200, and food/drink CNY 300. It depends on your spending habits, and students can save even more. 🍜 Food: Fuxian Lake copper pot fish (CNY 50–80/person) 🐟, the soup is fresh and the meat is tender—so healing. Eel rice noodles (CNY 15/person) 🍜, a local breakfast favorite that's sour, spicy, and appetizing. Pine needle roasted duck (CNY 40/person) 🦆, roasted with pine needles for crispy skin and tender meat. Dreamy scallion pancakes at Huangguan Night Market (CNY 4/each) 🥞, ridiculously cheap! Also, cold rice noodles (CNY 15), iced rice porridge (CNY 10), and Tonghai copper pot dishes (CNY 60/person) are all super delicious 😋. 🛕 Must-visit attractions: Fuxian Lake loop is free 🏖️. Tonghai Xiushan admission is CNY 10 🏯; the "Best in Southern Yunnan" ancient architectural complex is full of charm. ⚠️ Tips to avoid pitfalls: There are many speed cameras along the Fuxian Lake loop road, and speed limits change quickly, so be sure to use navigation and slow down 🙅‍♀️! The "red beach" is actually reddish-brown gravel; don't be fooled by filters—lower your expectations to be pleasantly surprised. When eating fish, be sure to ask about the weight and unit price, and confirm if it's copper pot fish or stone pot fish 🍴. Some seats in the cafes inside the Mingxing Fish Cave scenic area have a minimum spend; ask before you sit. Moon Bay Wetland Park may currently be closed for maintenance; be sure to check if it's open before you go 🙅‍♂️. For wild mushrooms, you must choose a reputable restaurant and ensure they are cooked for at least 15 minutes. Safety first! 💡 Tips: The weather in September–October is just right, not too cold or too hot 🌤️, with an average temperature of 18–26°C. However, there is a large temperature difference between day and night, so remember to bring a light jacket 🧥. The UV radiation on the plateau is extremely strong, so sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are a must 🕶️. Diving in Fuxian Lake requires guidance from a professional organization. Wear non-slip shoes for hiking in the Ailao Mountains to protect against flash floods during the rainy season 🥾. 💭 Final thoughts: Yuxi is truly an underrated treasure of a small city 🏞️. Girls, go now before it gets too popular 🏃‍♀️💨!

Hexi Ancient Town in Yuxi is a rare find in Yunnan. It has zero commercialization, no admission fees, no parking fees, and no tourists... Yet, it is an authentic, thousand-year-old ancient town. While ancient architecture elsewhere is often a paid attraction, the ancient buildings here are part of the locals' daily lives, where everyday life coexists with history. Compared to the nearby Tonghai Ancient Town, I prefer the raw, unfiltered charm of Hexi. I'm honestly tired of faux-ancient commercial streets. 🏯 About the ancient town Founded in the Tang Dynasty, it is a famous cultural ancient town in Yunnan. With its three streets and eighteen alleys lined with ancient buildings, it is a hidden gem in central Yunnan where diverse religious cultures and ethnic groups coexist. 👣 Walking route Hexi Confucian Temple ➡️ Wenming Archway ➡️ Daxingfu Temple ➡️ 🚗 Guanyin Hall ➡️ Jiexiao Memorial Archway ➡️ God of Wealth Temple ➡️ 🚗 Yuanming Zen Temple ➡️ 🚗 Ma Family Courtyard 📸 Must-visit spots ✔️ Confucian Temple: Built in the Yuan Dynasty with exquisite column bases, it is the second-largest Confucian temple in central Yunnan. ✔️ Wenming Archway: Features pairs of stone lions and qilin, with beautifully carved beams and painted rafters. ✔️ Daxingfu Temple: A Ming Dynasty temple that retains many Yuan Dynasty wooden structures. It now serves as the Hexi Senior Activity Center. ✔️ Jiexiao Memorial Archway: An original structure from the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty. ✔️ Yuanming Zen Temple: Founded in the Yuan Dynasty, its triple-eaved gilded roof is magnificent. It also houses Ming Dynasty painted sculptures of the Eighteen Arhats. What surprised me even more was that the temple is filled with various succulents, just like at Jizhao Nunnery in Dali—so healing. ✔️ Ma Family Courtyard: A century-old mansion featuring Chinese-style doors and windows, Hui-style pavilions, Nanyang-style color schemes, and European tiles. 📌 Tips: Hexi Ancient Town only offers cultural and historical architecture; there are no tourists, cafes, or souvenir shops. If you don't like ancient architecture, proceed with caution. Outside the core area of the ancient town, there is also the Ma Family Courtyard in Dahui Village, a merchant's residence blending Chinese and Western styles. There is no public transport to the ancient town, so driving is the best option.

Honestly, before going to Yuxi, my only impression of it was Hongtashan and cigarettes. A friend said, "Let's go to Fuxian Lake," and I even asked, "Isn't that in Chengjiang?" Later I learned that Fuxian Lake, Ailao Mountain, and Tonghai Xiushan are all in Yuxi. Take the high-speed train from Kunming South Station, it takes 25 mins, and the ticket is CNY 29. The moment you exit the station, the pace slows down. The water in Fuxian Lake is so clear you can see stones 7–8 meters underwater. Don't rush to Luchong to squeeze for admission tickets. Turn to Guanglong Fuhai Wetland instead. It's free, with cosmos flower fields and wooden boardwalks, and half the crowds. In the afternoon, find a small shop by the lake to sit down. The copper pot fish is made with freshly caught fish, boiled in clear water, with dipping sauce you mix yourself. The fish meat is so tender it falls apart with a chopstick. The soup is milky white, the crispy rice is fragrant, and you can eat until you're stuffed for CNY 60–70 per person. The next day, wake up early to watch the sunrise at Hongshanzui. Pink sand beaches paired with deep blue lake water—it feels soft when you step on it barefoot. On the way back, stop by to climb Bijiashan. It takes 20 mins to reach the top, and the entire "glass lake" is spread out beneath your feet. That blue is truly breathtaking. When hungry, head back to the city center. Xiaomiao Street is the breakfast scene for Yuxi locals. The eel rice noodle soup base is stir-fried eel with mint, with a sour and spicy kick. One bowl and you're wide awake. Nearby, the green bricks and black tiles of Yuxi Old Street are perfect for a leisurely stroll. The former residence of Nie Er is free to enter, and the old house is well-preserved. Travel tips The UV rays are stronger than you'd imagine, so don't skimp on sunscreen, hats, or sunglasses. The temperature difference between morning and evening is 10 degrees, so short sleeves with a light jacket are most practical. When traveling around the lake, don't trust the chartered cars soliciting passengers on the side of the road; booking through a legitimate platform is more reliable. Yuxi's charm doesn't need words. Just sit down, eat a bowl of rice noodles, look at the lake, and time slows down.

Many people think that in September–October, Yuxi is just Fuxian Lake crowded with tourists and endless social media photo spots❌! I just finished a 3-day trip through the hidden gems of Central Yunnan, and I'm genuinely warning you against it—because you might fall in love with the forests, ancient villages, and local culture and never want to leave! In September–October, Central Yunnan is crisp and clear with bright highland sunshine. The heat has faded, tourist crowds have thinned significantly, Ailao Mountain is turning colorful, and Huayao Dai flavors and Eshan pounded dishes are in season. It’s a one-stop experience of lakes, mountains, ancient temples, tea fields, and ethnic villages—uncrowded, peaceful, and great value. This no-nonsense, real-life 3-day itinerary for off-the-beaten-path travel is perfect for your short autumn getaway in the Southwest. Just copy and go📝✨ 1️⃣ Real 3-day itinerary experience Day 1: Ailao Mountain canyon and forest route🌲 Depart at 8:00 AM for Ailao Mountain Shimen Gorge. The stream water is crystal clear, the air is rich in negative oxygen ions, and there are few tourists. Immerse yourself in the primitive forest and enjoy the quiet atmosphere of the mountains. Light-colored outfits look great with the forest light and shadows; the streams and ancient trees are perfect photo spots📸. For lunch, try nearby caravan-style farm food—wild mountain vegetables and local cured meat. It’s fresh, rustic, and authentic Southern Yunnan flavor for about 50 yuan per person. In the afternoon, visit Nan'en Waterfall. The autumn water volume is abundant, the waterfall rushes down the cliff, and mist fills the air. If you're lucky, you might see a rainbow. View the magnificent scenery from the observation deck without having to squeeze into popular spots. On the way, visit the Longxi Aristocratic Manor to experience the old chieftain's residence and learn about the history of Central Yunnan chieftains. In the evening, return to Gasa Town, stroll through the local streets, and try the Gasa beef hot pot—spicy, savory, and rich. Stay in the town overnight, listen to the mountain breeze, and get away from the hustle and bustle. Day 2: Yi ethnic village and tea field route🍵 Head early to Eshan Yuncha Manor. Thousands of acres of tea gardens spread across the mountains. In autumn, clouds and mist swirl around, and the tea fields stretch out in layers. You can stroll through the tea rows, try simple tea picking, or sit in a tea pavilion to relax. There are almost no tour groups here—it's quiet and healing. For lunch, enjoy a tea-themed feast at the manor, where tea is incorporated into dishes paired with mountain vegetables for a unique flavor. In the afternoon, explore Xi'e Ancient Town, a free Yi cultural town. The ancient buildings and alleys are well-preserved, and you can learn about Yi customs in the intangible cultural heritage exhibition hall. It’s not overly commercialized, so you can stroll slowly and soak up the local atmosphere. In the evening, drive back to Hongta District, visit Qinghua Street, avoid the noisy crowds, browse ceramic creative shops, and feel the evening breeze while experiencing the local life of old Yuxi. For dinner, try Yuxi cold rice noodles or eel rice noodles—sour, spicy, and appetizing to wash away the fatigue of the journey. Day 3: Cultural ancient temples and local market finale🏯 In the morning, head to Xiushan in Tonghai, known as the "most beautiful mountain in Southern Yunnan." Ancient temples are scattered among the forests, with vigorous ancient cypresses and numerous stone inscriptions and plaques. Climb up to overlook Qilu Lake. There are few tourists, making it perfect for a quiet stroll to appreciate the cultural heritage of Central Yunnan. For lunch, eat local snacks in Tonghai Old Town, like bean powder candy and rice cakes—unlock the daily food of locals for just over 10 yuan. In the afternoon, choose one of two options: if you prefer science, visit the Chengjiang Fossil Site Museum (free, requires reservation) to see ancient fossils—it's cool indoors and avoids the afternoon sun. If you like markets, go to the local farmers' market to buy affordable souvenirs like tea, handmade pottery, and dried fruit, avoiding the overpriced shops in tourist areas. Then, pack up and head home. The 3-day itinerary is well-paced, covering primitive canyons, waterfalls, tea fields, and Yi ancient temples. It avoids crowded tourist spots, making for a relaxed and comfortable early autumn trip. 2️⃣ Transportation guide🚞 Visitors from out of town can take a high-speed train directly to Yuxi Station; it's a 30-minute ride from Kunming. · Self-driving is preferred: Attractions in Ailao Mountain, Eshan, and Tonghai are far apart. There are many curves on the mountain roads, but the road conditions are good. Most scenic spots offer free parking, and it offers the most freedom. · Public transport: Taxis are convenient in the city. For trips to Ailao Mountain and Eshan, you can carpool to save time. · The mountain roads in Ailao Mountain have many curves. Try to travel during the day; driving on mountain roads at night is not recommended. 3️⃣ Honest accommodation review🏨 Accommodation location: Boutique hotels around Nie Er Square in Hongta District Price for September–October: 170–230 yuan/night Highlights: Located in the city center, close to many supermarkets and restaurants, and not far from Qinghua Street and the Former Residence of Nie Er. The rooms are clean, well-ventilated, and have good soundproofing. It's quiet and livable at night, and dining and transportation are very convenient, so there's no need to stay in remote mountain areas. 4️⃣ Autumn travel tips to avoid pitfalls⚠️ 1. In September–October, the temperature difference between day and night on the Yuxi plateau is large. The sun is strong during the day, but it's cool in the mountains in the morning and evening. Bring a light jacket. The plateau UV rays are strong, so be sure to use sun protection. 2. The Ailao Mountain canyon trails are damp and mossy. Be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes and do not wander onto undeveloped wild paths. 3. Local food is mostly sour and spicy. If you don't eat spicy food, make a note when ordering for "mild" or "no spice." 4. Some attractions in Ailao Mountain require a package ticket. Buy tickets online in advance and do not trust roadside guides who charge for leading the way. 5. Museums are closed on Mondays. Check opening hours before you go to avoid a wasted trip. 6. There are many mosquitoes in the forests, so carry mosquito repellent. Mobile phone signals are weak in some mountain areas, so download offline maps in advance.

I chose Pusheng Hotel for this trip to Tonghai, and the overall stay exceeded my expectations. I sincerely recommend it to anyone planning to visit. 📍 Great location It's very close to Jukui Pavilion in the old town center, so you can explore the old town on foot. Xiushan and Qilu Lake are also nearby, making it convenient to visit historic sites, hike, or see the lake, saving a lot of travel time. 🪵 Public areas are well designed and photogenic Overall, it has a muted chaji-style aesthetic, with dark gray stone paired with warm natural wood, and the public areas display many root-carving art pieces that add a lot of texture. It's windy by the lake 4. Don't pack your itinerary too full. Yuxi is best for slow travel; relaxation is the essence

Yuxi is a place to slow down and soak it all in. It has the clear lake views of Fuxian Lake, the bustling old streets of Tonghai Ancient Town, as well as wetlands, mountains, and local food. It is perfect for a relaxed yet rich short trip to Yunnan. If it is your first time, make Fuxian Lake your main focus. Stroll along the lake, watch the reflections of distant mountains, or find an open stretch of shoreline to just relax. Mornings are great for photographing the crystal-clear lake surface, while evenings are perfect for waiting for the sunset. There is no need to check off every single attraction; choose one or two shorelines you like and linger there for a more comfortable experience. If you enjoy culture and local life, visit Tonghai Ancient Town. The grey-tiled eaves, wooden doors of old houses, and small street-side shops are all worth taking your time to see. Don't just focus on taking photos; pay attention to the daily rhythm of the locals. You don't need to rush through the ancient town; walking while eating and picking up snacks along the way makes for a more authentic travel experience. Nature lovers can fit the wetlands into a half-day itinerary. Walk along the boardwalks to birdwatch and observe the reeds and the changing lake surface. When the weather is good, the silhouettes of the distant mountains are beautiful. It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and bring a hat, sunscreen, and water; the temperature difference between morning and evening can be significant, so it is worth bringing a light jacket. For meals, prioritize trying local flavors. Stone pot fish, rice noodles, and various Yunnan snacks are great for sharing. To save money, avoid dining in the center of tourist areas and look for local restaurants in residential areas or near old streets; check the menu before ordering, and if you are in a small group, control your portions so you can try more varieties without wasting food. For your pace, I recommend setting aside at least two nights: one day for the lake views and one day for the ancient town and wetlands, leaving some free time in between. The most charming part of Yuxi is not the number of attractions, but the breeze by the lake, the light in the old streets, and a steaming hot meal. 📷

Yuxi is a place best enjoyed at a slower pace. It is not a destination for checking off a single attraction; rather, it is better suited for connecting the lake views, mountain scenery, ancient towns, and local life. Leave some room in your schedule to truly feel the relaxed vibe of this small Yunnan city. For your first stop, dedicate some time to Fuxian Lake. Take a walk along the lake in the early morning or evening, watch the water change with the light, or find a spot with a wide view to sit and relax. The lakeside is perfect for photographing distant mountains, reflections, and clear, shallow water—don't rush to cover every corner. If you enjoy a mix of nature and culture, consider visiting Hongta Mountain or the surrounding mountain scenery. From the heights, you can see the city spread out between the mountains and water, with even richer layers on clear days. Wear comfortable shoes for walking on mountain paths, and be sure to carry sunscreen and water. If you have limited stamina, just go at your own pace. Tonghai Ancient Town is perfect for a half-day or an afternoon. Stroll slowly along the old streets, observing the traditional eaves, wooden doors, stone paths, and the daily life of the locals. There is no need to follow a strict route in the ancient town; stopping to look at small shops, old buildings, or quiet alleyways is often more interesting than rushing to take photos. When dining, keep an eye out for local snacks and rice noodles. Choosing places with many locals and simple menus usually makes it easier to find authentic, everyday flavors. Don't pack your schedule with too many popular restaurants; save some room for street snacks, and feel free to ask the shop owners about the daily specials. For your itinerary, I suggest one day for a slow tour of the lake and another for mountain scenery and the ancient town. If you have extra time, you can add nearby small towns. Try to choose accommodation based on your main focus for the day to minimize back-and-forth travel. Don't schedule attractions too tightly; factor in time for transportation, finding parking, and taking breaks. The key to saving money is to buy fewer repetitive souvenirs and allocate more of your budget to accommodation, meals, and comfortable experiences. Enjoying the lakeside views and walking through the ancient town are rewarding in themselves. Weather, stamina, and your mood are more important than the number of places you check off. The best way to experience Yuxi is to watch a sunset, eat a bowl of hot rice noodles, and slowly return to the city lights✨ Tags:

Honestly, before going to Yuxi, I thought it was just a small city you'd overlook while passing through Kunming. After staying for 4 days, when friends asked me where the most fun place in Yunnan is, I blurted out: Yuxi. It's not that Dali isn't good, it's just that Yuxi is too underrated. ① Fuxian Lake · Luchong | 15 yuan for a piece of glass sea 🌊 📍 Luchong Village, Chengjiang City, Yuxi City 🎫 15 yuan/person (Free entry before 8:00 AM or after 6:00 PM) Fuxian Lake is the third-largest deep-water lake in Yunnan. The water is so clear you can see the white sand and stones at the bottom; it's no exaggeration that locals call it "glass water." Luchong is the most classic entrance on the west bank. Pay 15 yuan to enter, climb up Bijia Mountain to overlook the entire lake surface—that blue isn't something you can get with a filter. Boxi Bay has fewer people and clear water. Rent a paddleboard by the lake and paddle out; looking down at the water, which is over 10 meters deep, is both scary and fascinating. Must-eats: Copper pot potato rice is 10 yuan a bowl, with crispy scorched rice and fragrant ham; copper pot fish is 30–50 yuan per person, and the fish cooked in lake water is incredibly fresh. ② Ailao Mountain · Sea of Clouds Sunrise Viewing Platform | Is it worth waking up at 4:00 AM 🌄 📍 Yaonan Village, Gasa Town, Xinping County, Yuxi City, Sea of Clouds Sunrise Viewing Platform 🎫 Free (Parking is about 10 yuan/day) This was the most hesitant part of my trip. Leaving Gasa Town at 4:00 AM to drive up the mountain road in total darkness, I was nervous. But the moment the sun burst through the clouds, all my sleepiness vanished. The sea of clouds isn't static; it surges forward in waves, with distant mountains peeking out and then retreating back into the clouds. The best viewing period is from November in autumn/winter to March of the following year; whether you'll see it in summer depends on luck. Practical advice: The mountain roads are narrow, so don't drive yourself if you're a beginner; booking a local car is safer. It's cold on the mountain, so bring a jacket. ③ Chengjiang Fossil Site Museum | This is what "we" looked like 530 million years ago 🦐 📍 No. 14 Cambrian Avenue, Huanhu North Road, Yousuo Town, Chengjiang City, Yuxi City 🎫 Free (Reservation required in advance, closed on Mondays) Honestly, I didn't have high expectations for the museum. After entering and standing in front of that fossil wall, I fell silent. Cambrian creatures from 530 million years ago—trilobites, anomalocaris—were densely sealed in the stone, preserved as if they had just died yesterday. There's an interactive area where you can use tools to simulate fossil excavation; I squatted there playing for almost half an hour. When I came out, I kept thinking: Did we really evolve from these things? Note: Last entry at 4:00 PM, don't go too late. The museum has paleontology-themed ice cream, which is great for photos. ④ Tonghai Xiushan | Explore a "mountain of plaques and sea of couplets" for 10 yuan 📜 📍 No. 49 Wenxianli, Xiushan Town, Tonghai County, Yuxi City 🎫 10 yuan/person Xiushan is less than 1,800 meters above sea level, so it's not hard to climb, but what's on the mountain is not simple. The Ming and Qing dynasty ancient building complex is layered and hidden among ancient cypress trees, with so many plaques and couplets that it's called a "mountain of plaques and sea of couplets." What impressed me most was the platform behind Yongjin Temple; looking down, the entire Tonghai Basin and Qilu Lake spread out before you, and the view opens up instantly. The ancient town of Tonghai at the foot of the mountain doesn't charge an entrance fee either. There are few tourists on the bluestone roads, and the scallion pancakes sold by the grandma on the street are crispy and fragrant. ⑤ Yimen Lvzhi Town | Accidentally wandered into the 80s, no one will rush you away 🏚️ 📍 Lvzhi Town, Yimen County, Yuxi City 🎫 Free The last spot goes to this place because it's so special. Lvzhi Town is an old copper mining base. The entire street of Soviet-style old factories, old cinemas, and old guesthouses has been preserved. Walking on the street feels like traveling back to the 80s. When the phoenix flowers bloom from May to June, the red flowers cover the rusty factory area, and that contrast between "flowers and steel" looks great in any photo. If you come in autumn or winter, wake up early and drive up the 72-turn mountain road to the Lvzhi Slope Viewing Platform to see the sea of clouds filling the valley; it's more stunning than many paid scenic spots. Reminder: The mountain roads have many curves and are not suitable for beginner drivers. There are guesthouses and inns in the town, so you can stay for a night and explore slowly. A few final sincere words: Yuxi is not for rushing. You need to soak in Fuxian Lake slowly, wait for the clouds at Ailao Mountain, calm your mind to see the fossil site, and climb Xiushan layer by layer. Each place isn't expensive, but the experience they provide is much more substantial than many internet-famous spots.

If anyone says Yuxi is just a small town attached to Fuxian Lake, I'll be the first to disagree! In September–October, the breeze in Yunnan isn't too hot or stuffy, the lake water is crystal blue, and even the tangy scent of the cold rice noodles on the street is just right. This is the tried-and-tested route I've put together after 5 trips, all summarized with care👇 💚Day 1: Take the high-speed train from Kunming South to Yuxi Station → 20-minute taxi ride to Fuxian Lake Luchong Scenic Area → Walk along the lake to the Bijiashan Viewing Platform → Lunch at a lakeside copper pot fish restaurant → Drive/rent an e-scooter along the lake loop road to Gushan Scenic Area → Return to a Luchong lake-view homestay in the evening to watch the sunset 🚄: The high-speed train from Kunming South to Yuxi Station takes 40 minutes. Rent an e-scooter you've booked in advance right after exiting the gate; it's 30% cheaper than finding one at the scenic area entrance. Some sections of the lake loop road don't have non-motorized lanes, so don't ride in the middle of the road on your e-scooter 💚Photo tips📸: The platform halfway up Bijiashan offers an unobstructed view of the lake. The light hits the water perfectly at 4 PM, so you'll get great shots without needing filters Some small tips📝: Don't accept "low-price boat tour" cards from strangers at the scenic area entrance. They are all unlicensed small boats that will raise prices once they row you into deep water. Ask for the price of the "kanglang" fish before ordering, and don't pay without checking the bill 💚Day 2: Check out of your homestay → 40-minute taxi ride to Tonghai Xiushan Park → Lunch of cold rice noodles on the old street at the foot of the mountain → Explore the Xiushan Ancient Temple complex → 15-minute taxi ride to Tonghai Ancient Town → Browse Qinghua Street for handmade pottery → 20-minute taxi ride to check into a hotel in Hongta District Transport details: Bus No. 2 at the entrance of Xiushan goes directly to Tonghai Ancient Town. It only costs 1 yuan, so there's no need to take a taxi and get stuck in traffic at the entrance Photo tips📸: There are several century-old pine trees next to the old stage halfway up Xiushan. Standing on the steps and taking a photo, the ancient eaves paired with the pine branches look very atmospheric Some tips📝: Don't buy things randomly from the "wild specialty stalls" at the entrance of Xiushan. Many of the so-called dried wild mushrooms are locally cultivated, and the prices are twice as expensive as in city supermarkets 💚Day 3: Check out of your city hotel → 10-minute walk to the Former Residence of Nie Er → After exploring, walk 5 minutes to Nie Er Square → 10-minute taxi ride to Yingyuetan Hot Spring → Have lunch at the hot spring restaurant after soaking, then head home 🚄: Bus No. 18, adjusted after September 7, connects Nie Er Square and the City Planning Exhibition Hall directly. It runs every 30 minutes, so don't wait for it if you're in a rush Photo tips📸: The violin-shaped viewing platform at Nie Er Square. Climb to the top to take a panoramic shot of the entire square. The atmosphere is incredible after the lights come on in the evening 📝: At Yingyuetan Hot Spring, don't choose the public pools closest to the entrance; they are crowded and the water is murky. The small soaking pools 100 meters further in have much cleaner water and fewer people You don't need to bring a thick coat when visiting in September–October; just add a thin long-sleeved shirt in the morning and evening. It's windy by the lake, so remember to wear a hat, or you'll come back after two days so sunburnt that even your own mother won't recognize you😂

🌿 Qilu Lake National Wetland Park in Tonghai, Yuxi, Yunnan, is one of the nine major plateau lakes in Yunnan. It was officially designated as a national-level park in 2019, with a wetland coverage rate as high as 96.94%. Locals in Tonghai call it their "Mother Lake." The lake is crescent-shaped with a 30+ km greenway around it. It is free and open all day, quieter than Erhai Lake, less crowded than Dianchi Lake, and perfect for photos without the crowds. 🚲 Travel guide: Transportation: 1.5-hour drive from Kunming; 15-minute taxi ride from Tonghai High-Speed Railway Station; take bus No. 2 or 3 from the county town to "Qihu Station No. 1." Route: Morning: Shoot reflections at the Nagu section of the lakeshore → Rent a bike/e-scooter to cycle around the lake (30 yuan/hour) → Afternoon: Walk the wooden boardwalk, visit the viral floating bridge and bird-watching house, and bring bread to feed the black-headed gulls in winter → 17:30: Wait for the "orange sea" sunset → On the way back, visit the Ancient Town of Tonghai and Xiushan Mountain. Outfit: Light-colored dress + straw hat + sunglasses. Bring a windbreaker (it's windy by the lake), sunscreen, and mosquito repellent. Dining: Head down the mountain to the ancient town to eat Tonghai hot pot, cold rice noodles, and bean powder candy. Avoid getting ripped off at lakeside restaurants. 💡 Tips: Drones require registration; do not step on the wetland vegetation; it gets crowded with locals on weekend evenings, so go early if you want the place to yourself. Yunnan hidden gem lake

Zhouai Lane is located at the foot of Xiushan Mountain in the ancient city of Tonghai, Yuxi, to the left of the Confucian Temple. It was named after the Qing Dynasty notable Ai Tingxian and the Zhou clan who once lived here. Formerly known as Aijia Lane and Zhoujia Lane, it is one of the earliest established residential areas in the ancient city of Tonghai. The green bricks, gray tiles, the Zhou Family Ancestral Hall, and the Ai Family Gate retain the authentic charm of Ming and Qing Dynasty streets. Travel tips: We recommend visiting between the afternoon and evening. Turn in from Wenmiao Street, stroll slowly through the 3–4 meter wide old lane, and look at the cartoon wall paintings that evoke childhood memories and the door knockers of old houses. Step into the "Wuwai" courtyard or Nanzhou Teahouse (a renovated Zhou Family Ancestral Hall) in the lane for a cup of tea, or go to the Liuyi Night Market to eat barbecue and lianggao. Admission is free. Wear comfortable shoes. You can combine Jukui Pavilion, the Confucian Temple, and Xiushan Mountain into a half-day route along the way. It is photogenic and easy to walk.

Girls, listen to me❗️ I originally just planned to stop over in Tonghai for one night, but I ended up falling in love with this place and couldn't bear to leave after 3 days🥹 The density of information here is ridiculously high; there's a surprise at every step. I'm still reminiscing while organizing my photos… ❶ Qutuoguan – A Yuan Dynasty military fortress, now so quiet that only the wind can be heard🌬️ Not many people know about this place; I only found it after asking the locals! Qutuoguan was once a key military town in southern Yunnan and a hub on the Ancient Tea Horse Road. The base of the beacon tower is still there, and the view from the pass is incredibly expansive☀️ Go at 10:00 AM; the sun is strong, but the breeze is cool~ There's hardly anyone at the ruins park. Walking on the stone path alone, with hundreds of years of history beneath my feet, the feeling was magical! Perfect for history buffs and those who like peace and quiet. I recommend bringing a telephoto lens for photos; the layered mountains look amazing📸 ❷ Yangguang Ancient Town – The daily life of the locals🏘️ Located in the heart of the "Granary of Southern Yunnan," the farming atmosphere is very strong! The town is small and can be walked in half an hour, but I suggest slowing down~ In August, the rice fields spread out, and there's rice paddy art you can check out🌾 If you go in the evening, you might just run into villagers finishing their work, their tricycle beds filled with rice ears, smoke rising from chimneys in the distance, and the sky turning shades of pink and purple🍃 You can't buy this kind of scene in the city no matter how much you spend! ❸ Yunlong Mountain – The locals' backyard⛰️ Not far from the county seat, it's where Tonghai locals go for a weekend stroll~ The trails on the mountain are well-maintained, with rhododendron bushes on both sides (though August isn't the flowering season, the lush greenery is enough to see🌿). The glass viewing platform at the top offers a 360° view of the entire Tonghai area and Qilu Lake! I sat at the top for a long time in the afternoon, the wind blowing, clouds layering, and light and shadow moving across the valley like a slow-motion movie🎬 ⚠️Note: The mountain road has steep steps, so seniors and children should be careful; don't wear high heels on the glass platform; bring a light jacket as it's windy at the top🧥 📍Address: Y101, Jianshui County, Honghe Prefecture, open 08:00–16:00 ❹ Tonghai Confucian Temple – So low-key it's heartbreaking😭 Located in the ancient town, it's small but perfectly preserved! The dougong brackets of the Dacheng Hall are exquisite, and the stone pillars in front are delicately carved~ There wasn't a single tourist when I went, just an old man watering flowers. He said the Confucian temple dates back to the Ming Dynasty and that Tonghai produced many imperial scholars; this street used to be full of scholars📖 Free admission. The mottled walls and faded plaques actually have more power! 📍Address: No. 18, Shuncheng Street, Tonghai County, Yuxi City, open 07:30–18:30 (opens at 08:00 on weekends) ❺ Xingmeng Mongolian Township – There are Mongolians in Yunnan?🤯 The only Mongolian settlement in Yunnan, right next to Tonghai! It was left behind by the descendants of the Yuan Dynasty garrison 700 years ago. The houses incorporate Mongolian elements, and the door lintel decorations are different from other places in Yunnan~ The village is very quiet, with villagers working in the fields. It's a rare, authentic cultural experience without any staged performances! ❻ East Bank of Qilu Lake – An overlooked photography hotspot📸 Most people crowd the boardwalk on the west bank, but I discovered that the dirt road on the east bank leads to the lake! A natural gravel beach, where the water and sky blend together more purely~ When the light hits around 3:00–4:00 PM, it sparkles🌊 Photos taken with a phone look better than those from a camera! If you have time, I recommend renting a car to drive around the lake (over 40 km); the lake views are completely different from different angles 📍Address: Nagu Town, Tonghai County, Yuxi City, open all day 🏨 Accommodation experience This time, I chose a small courtyard at the foot of Xiushan~ Pushing open the wooden door reveals a patio filled with flowers and plants, and the room on the second floor has a window facing the Xiushan forest🪟 An old-fashioned canopy bed + thick quilt, I slept so soundly! There's a small tea table in the courtyard; at night, I brewed tea and listened to the insects chirping, and looked up to see a sky full of stars✨ I didn't even want to look at my phone signal~ 💡 Summary: Tonghai isn't a place that makes you go "Wow, how spectacular," but rather "Ah, I really want to stay here"~ Tonghai in August has perfect temperatures, lush greenery, and very few tourists. It's truly a hidden gem that only those in the know will appreciate🥰
