#Overseas Travel Take a stroll in Treviso, known as the Little Water City! It doesn’t have the bustle and bustle of Venice, but it has a quiet and leisurely atmosphere. There are winding canals in the center of the town. When you come to Treviso, you must visit the Fontana delle Tette (Fountain of the Breasts). In the 16th century, in order to celebrate the inauguration of the new mayor, the breasts of this fountain would spray wine for three consecutive days. One breast would spray red wine and the other would spray white wine. All citizens can come and drink free wine and celebrate together. This tradition was discontinued until 1797, after the decline of the Republic of Venice. This fountain is the most representative artifact of Treviso. The original work was created in 1559. The real body is already very dilapidated and is now stored in a glass box in Piazza dei Signori, the most important square in Treviso, for public viewing. When you come to Treviso, you will find that many houses have these circular arcades, which is also the architectural feature here. Treviso is a city that I visited exactly 3 times. It was one of my funniest stories because I flew to Italy just to drink a coffee in #treviso and in 5h I took the flight back. I did this exactly 3 times because I managed to found super cheap tickets and the airline timetable allowed to go for half a day and then go back. I found also amazing cafés in the town that made me come again. The town itself is very small but due to its proximity to Venice is very developed and beautiful. #happynewyear

Stayed in May with friends—our second trip to the Maldives. The boat ride from Malé took about 50 minutes. At the hotel, we were greeted by staff with drums and applause, which was pretty fun. Due to apparent overbooking, they put us in a water villa on the first night instead of a beach villa. While they thought we'd enjoy the upgrade, we strongly preferred the beach villa vibe. The water villa was nice, but not our style. Thankfully, by morning, we were moved to a beach villa. The beach near the regular beach villas in May was excellent—calm waters, no wind or waves. The villa itself felt fresh, and the bathroom was convenient. The food at the hotel was fantastic, with tuna, beef cooked to choice, papaya, pineapple, and Eggs Benedict for breakfast. The Prosecco, from the Treviso region, was delightful and poured generously. The gym had all the necessary equipment. We genuinely enjoyed the hotel and would happily return!

One thing I quickly noticed while wandering around the Old Town of Treviso was that many of the historic buildings seemed determined to blend in with one another. Beautiful? Absolutely. Easy to identify? Not always. The buildings stand shoulder to shoulder along narrow streets and charming piazzas, many dating back centuries and sharing similar architectural styles. After a while, I started feeling like I was playing a historical version of "spot the difference." Perhaps that's just my ignorance speaking. Lol. Fortunately, one building manages to stand out from the crowd: the impressive Palazzo dei Trecento, also known as the Palazzo della Ragione. Located right in the heart of Piazza dei Signori, this historic palace has been one of Treviso's most important civic buildings for centuries and today serves as the home of the Treviso Municipal Council. The palace was built during the 13th and 14th centuries as the seat of the Maggior Consiglio ("Highest Council"), which was the city's main governing body. Designed by Venetian architect Gabriele Saccon, the building is constructed primarily of brick and features a large open loggia on the ground floor. The upper level is distinguished by three elegant triple-mullioned windows, giving the façade a stately yet surprisingly graceful appearance. Inside, visitors can find remnants of beautiful frescoes painted between the 14th and 16th centuries by Venetian artists. Unfortunately, our timing was less than ideal. When we first arrived, it was lunchtime and the palace was closed. No problem, we thought. We'll come back later. And we did. Sure enough, when we passed by again, it was open. Excellent. Perfect. The only small problem was that by then, the afternoon heat had reached a level where even our enthusiasm for history was beginning to melt. I pointed toward the building. My brother pointed toward a gelato shop. The gelato shop won. Without much of a fight. In fairness, it was one of those scorching Italian summer afternoons where every step felt like a negotiation with the sun. At that point, the choice between medieval frescoes and cold gelato was never really a fair contest. History is important. But so is survival. And gelato, as it turns out, is surprisingly effective at preserving both morale and tourists. So while we admired the Palazzo dei Trecento from the outside and explored parts of its surroundings, the deeper historical investigation would have to wait for another visit. I never knew that in Treviso, the birthplace of tiramisu, you could find a perfectly good serving of this legendary dessert for just €2. Naturally, that discovery made my day. Since the weather was hot enough to convince us that walking was an overrated activity, my brother and I decided to make full use of our day pass and explore Treviso by city bus instead. After completing what felt like the grand tour of the city, the bus stopped near a bridge in the Old Town. An unusual place for a final stop, perhaps. Then again, in Italy, I've learned not to question these things too much. Right across the bridge stood Caffè Diemme Italian Attitude, a charming café that has been serving customers since 1927. By now, you've probably noticed that I have a soft spot for businesses that have survived decades of changing trends, economic crises, and generations of customers. If a place is still thriving after nearly a century, they must be doing something right. And they certainly were. The staff were incredibly friendly and patiently explained that they offered two sizes of tiramisu. A small one for €2. A large one for €3. The decision should have been difficult. It wasn't. For scientific and gastronomic reasons, I naturally chose the larger one. Lol. To combat the summer heat, we also ordered iced tea. Unfortunately, they had run out of their Moroccan mint iced tea, which sounded perfect for the weather. If tiramisu could somehow be classified as a balanced meal, I would happily eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—especially during a scorching Italian summer. One of the things I quickly learned about Treviso is that its old town isn't particularly large. That's actually part of its charm. You can wander through medieval streets, cross picturesque canals, stop for a tiramisu break (or two), and still find yourself discovering hidden corners you hadn't noticed before. One such discovery was the Chiesa di San Martino Urbano. Located just beyond the busiest parts of the historic centre, this church is easy to spot and well worth a look. While many visitors focus on Treviso's famous canals, city walls, and piazzas, San Martino quietly stands as one of the city's oldest religious sites. And when I say old, I mean really old. The church traces its origins back to the 8th century, making it one of the oldest churches in Treviso. To put that into perspective, the church was already around long before coffee arrived in Italy, long before tiramisu was invented, and long before tourists started taking photos of everything they ate. When your brother is a devoted fan of all things Italian, you quickly learn that in Italy, old restaurants are treated with almost the same respect as historical monuments. So when he discovered Toni del Spin, a trattoria that has been serving customers since 1880, there was absolutely no way we were skipping it. Established more than a century before either of us existed, Toni del Spin is one of Treviso's oldest trattorias and is renowned for its traditional Venetian cuisine. The restaurant sits in the heart of the old town, quietly proving that if you serve good food for long enough, people will keep coming back for generations. We almost didn't make it. Like many establishments in Treviso, the restaurant closes in the afternoon before reopening for dinner. We found ourselves racing against the clock to arrive before the 2:30 pm lunch cutoff. Nothing motivates tourists quite like the possibility of missing lunch. Fortunately, we arrived in time. My brother immediately ordered one of Treviso's most famous pasta specialties: Bigoli in Salsa di Acciuga e Cipolla. For the uninitiated, Bigoli is a thick, rustic pasta traditionally associated with the Veneto region. The sauce combines anchovies and onions, creating a flavour that is unapologetically bold. After stealing one or two strands from my brother's plate in the name of culinary research, I can confirm that the anchovies definitely introduced themselves very clearly. Language really is everything. Lol. Then came dessert. Naturally, we ordered tiramisu. My brother immediately approved because, according to him, it contained a proper amount of liquor. Throughout our Italy trip, he seemed to judge tiramisu using a very simple rating system: More liquor = better tiramisu. However, the real surprise of the meal was something I had been hunting for throughout our trip: Semifreddo all'Amaretto con Riccioli di Cioccolato. I had searched menus, checked reviews, and even planned parts of our itinerary around finding a good semifreddo. Some people build travel itineraries around landmarks. We apparently build them around desserts. In fact, our food itinerary was probably more detailed than those offered by some tour companies. Lol. And it was worth it. The semifreddo was unlike anything else I had tried. Creamy, smooth, slightly cheesy, yet not quite a cheesecake. There were delicate chocolate curls throughout, adding texture without overwhelming the dessert. It wasn't overly sweet, nor was it savoury. It simply sat in that perfect middle ground where every spoonful made you want another. For the first time during the trip, I found myself abandoning the tiramisu in favour of another dessert. That's how good it was. Of course, my brother accompanied his meal with an Aperol Spritz, which by this stage had become his unofficial travel companion. It's a ristorante, caffetteria, gelateria, and pasticceria all rolled into one stylish package. In other words, whatever food-related craving you happen to have, there's a very good chance Signore & Signori has already thought of it. Its location couldn't be more perfect either. Sitting right on Piazza dei Signori, Treviso's most famous square, it's practically impossible to miss. Whether you're exploring the old town on foot, joining a guided tour, arriving by public bus, or even riding the adorable Trenino Green di Treviso, sooner or later you'll find yourself passing by its doors. And that's exactly how temptation begins. The café proudly claims to be the best tiramisu house in Treviso, which is a bold statement in a city that considers tiramisu part of its culinary identity. Many shops still close in the afternoon and reopen in the evening, even on weekdays. When we arrived in the town centre at around 1:30pm, almost every non-food shop had already disappeared behind closed shutters for their afternoon break. Even lunch required careful planning. Some restaurants stopped serving at 2:30pm and only reopened at 6:30pm. In all my recent trips around Italy, I hardly ever encountered this anymore. Naturally, this became our perfect excuse to keep hopping in and out of cafés, pastry shops, and gelaterias all afternoon. Purely for survival purposes, of course. 😇 By 7pm, we were more than ready for dinner and headed to: 📍 Mic Ramen Treviso Via Inferiore 35, 31100 Treviso, Italy The moment we stepped inside, it felt like we had accidentally taken a wrong turn and ended up in Osaka. There were plenty of choices on the menu. As expected, I immediately went for the spiciest option available which was Spicy Miso because apparently I enjoy making myself sweat twice in one day. 🌶️😂 Meanwhile, my brother chose a Dry Pork Ramen. The drinks were equally interesting. They even had their own Japanese-inspired take on a Spritz called Midori Spritz, made with melon liqueur. Naturally, my brother couldn't resist trying it. I stayed loyal to my simple combination of water and iced lemon tea. For starters, I ordered the fried tofu, which turned out to be absolutely delicious—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and dangerously addictive. One thing I really appreciated was how accommodating they were with customisations. They happily added extra chilli oil upon request, and when I decided I wanted my chopped bacon transferred directly into my brother’s bowl while adopting his unwanted corn into mine, nobody batted an eyelid.
