📍 Saint-Malo is a free fortified city in Brittany, famous for its granite walls, powerful tides, and corsairs. It's the perfect spot for an action-packed getaway just a 3-hour journey from Paris. 🚄 How to Get There from Paris · Train (TGV): The most convenient option. It takes about 3 hours from Montparnasse station to Saint-Malo. Tickets start at €40. · Bus: The budget-friendly way. The trip takes about 5-6 hours. 🏰 Morning: A Stroll Through Intra-Muros Start your day with a walk through the historic center surrounded by fortress walls. Climb up to the ramparts for the best views of the city and the sea. Drop by the Castle of Duchess Anne, which now houses the history museum. ⚔️ Afternoon: History and Active Leisure · The Corsairs' Mansion: Visit this 18th-century mansion to see its lavish interiors and terraces offering gorgeous views of the old town. Important note: the museum is only open in the afternoon (from about 2:00 PM), so plan your visit after lunch. · Sea Crossing and Bike Ride: A great way to mix things up! Use the Compagnie Corsaire ferry service for a quick 15-minute ride from the port of Saint-Malo to Dinard (the crossing itself is an attraction with the best view of the city). In Dinard, you can rent a bike and hit the scenic La Vélomaritime (EuroVelo 4) route along the Emerald Coast, or simply take a stroll around this elegant resort town. 🦪 Evening: Gastronomy and Sunsets Saint-Malo is a foodie's paradise. Order the freshest oysters from nearby Cancale, mussels in a white wine and shallot sauce, and, of course, Breton galettes with cider—the ultimate staple of Brittany. For those with a sweet tooth, here are 2 more Breton desserts to note: Far Breton—a "sailor's cake" with rum-soaked prunes, and Kouign-Amann—a "butter cake," a pastry made of dough, butter, and sugar that turns into a caramelized, crispy, yet melt-in-your-mouth treat when baked. After a hearty dinner, take a walk along the promenade and watch the sunset on the sandy beach as the sun paints the bastions in gold. 🧘♀️ For Relaxation: Spa Centers If you decide to stay overnight, opt for hotels with a spa where you can perfectly unwind after a busy day: · *Kyriad Prestige Saint-Malo: Hammam, hydromassage, and an indoor pool. · *Grand Hôtel des Thermes: A luxurious spa center with sea views.!

Saint-Malo is truly a dream destination for all dreamers and lovers of atmospheric places! Towering stone walls, narrow streets, old houses, and the Atlantic right there behind the fortress walls—it honestly feels like you’ve stepped into a movie! 😍 The city was once home to legendary corsairs, and that pirate vibe still lingers in the air. ⚓️ Even if you’re just wandering around, it feels like you’re about to meet the hero of an adventure film. The best part is not chasing various "must-sees," but simply catching the moment: climb the massive walls (Intra-Muros—this is where the heart of the old city is!), look down at the insanely beautiful sea, head down to Plage de Bon Secours, or get lost in the labyrinth of cobbled streets like Rue de la Vieille Boucherie or Rue Jacques Cartier. You really don’t want to rush anywhere here. Chill to the max! Saint-Malo’s signature feature is its massive tides. Sometimes in just a couple of hours, the sea that was splashing against the wall retreats, and you’re suddenly walking across the giant open Grande Plage du Sillon. Before long, the sea returns again! 🌊 These changes are pure magic. The photos here turn out incredibly stylish: a bit rugged, a little romantic, and very Breton in atmosphere. The city itself feels like it was specially made for capturing cinematic shots! Useful facts: · Old Town (Intra-Muros) — Address: Place Chateaubriand, 35400 Saint-Malo, France · Best time for walks: From 9:00 AM until sunset (free entry) · Don’t miss the beaches: Plage de Bon Secours and Grande Plage du Sillon · Watch the tides—every morning and evening it’s a real show! Pro-tip: Look for the tide schedule on the city’s website. So, how do you like these historic coastal towns? Or do you prefer bright resort promenades? Share your vibe in the comments!

⛪️🇫🇷 Église Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc, Rennes While exploring the city of Rennes, I had the opportunity to visit the Église Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc, a Catholic church located in the city's eastern district. Although it is not as famous as the landmarks in the historic old town, it is a place steeped in history, faith, and the legacy of one of France's most iconic figures: Jeanne d'Arc, or Joan of Arc. Construction began in 1914, designed by architect Arthur Regnault during a time of immense national devotion to Joan of Arc. After she was beatified in 1909 and officially canonized as a saint in 1920, churches and monuments were built in her honor across France. Stepping inside, the tranquility and the light filtering through the stained glass create a warm atmosphere filled with the power of faith. This site is not just a religious building but a reminder of the story of a 19-year-old girl who became a symbol of courage and sacrifice for her nation. Joan of Arc was a heroine who played a vital role in the Hundred Years' War between France and England. She led the French army to several victories before being captured by the English and tried by an ecclesiastical court in Rouen, Normandy. She was executed by burning at the stake on charges of heresy on May 30, 1431, at the Place du Vieux-Marché (marked by a cross in front of the church site) at only 19 years old. Years later, a retrial declared her innocent, and in 1920, the Catholic Church officially canonized her as a saint. Today, the spot where she was executed in Rouen features a monument and the Church of Saint Joan of Arc to commemorate her legacy. Visiting Église Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc in Rennes is therefore more than just about seeing beautiful architecture; it is an encounter with the story of the young woman who changed the course of French history and continues to be honored as a symbol of courage, faith, and hope to this day. 📍 Église Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc, Rennes, Brittany, France 🇫🇷

Today, I had the chance to stroll through Rennes, the capital of Brittany in western France—a city overflowing with historic buildings, cobblestone streets, and that simple French charm. But what caught my eye the most today wasn't the tourist spots or the pretty cafes; it was the absolute stillness of the city on a Sunday. Almost all the shops are closed, and the streets that are usually buzzing with people feel surprisingly empty and quiet. At first, I was a little taken aback, being used to cities that are lively seven days a week. But as I slowed down and watched locals spending time with their families, relaxing in the parks, or just cycling by, I began to realize that this Sunday silence is just another charming part of life here. Sometimes, travel isn't just about chasing famous spots or the trendiest cafes. It’s about feeling the rhythm of a city’s daily life. For Rennes on a Sunday, this quiet, slightly lonely vibe gives the city a unique charm all its own. 📍 Rennes, France 🇫🇷

#summerinonecut Everyone told me I had to fight through bumper-to-bumper coastal traffic and dense summer crowds just to snap a quick photo from the ramparts of Saint-Malo, so I prepared myself for an exhausting, over-engineered tourist trap. But the moment I stepped away from the main entrance gates, walked down onto the wide-open expanse of golden sand at low tide, and watched the towering granite ramparts catch the fierce Breton sunlight while the Atlantic waves crashed against the offshore wave-breakers, the true, rugged majesty of the Emerald Coast hit me like a physical blow. Standing before that ancient corsair city as the massive tidal shift swallowed the nearby rocks without a modern distraction in sight felt less like a standard summer holiday and more like stepping straight into maritime history. 🏰⛵ . 📅 What I experienced · Escaping the Rampart Crowds: Dropping down off the crowded stone walls to walk the wild tidal flats around Grand Bé island, timing the walk carefully before the rushing sea cuts off the path entirely. · Exploring the Intramuros Backstreets: Wandering through the meticulously rebuilt 18th-century granite stone alleys of the historic corsair city, discovering quiet hidden courtyards far from the commercial souvenir shops. · Watching the Atlantic Surge: Sitting on the massive stone breakwaters (*les moles*) as powerful summer swells throw plumes of white spray high into the salty air. . 🏨 Where I stayed · I stayed in a charming, wood-beamed boutique hotel tucked inside the historic walled city (*intra-muros*). Waking up to the distant cry of gulls and the sharp scent of sea salt drifting through an open window felt grounded and deeply authentic. 🛏️🥐 . 🍴 My culinary highlights · Breton coastal dining honors rich, comforting regional traditions. I sat at a lively local crêperie and savored a traditional savory buckwheat galette loaded with artisanal ham, local farm eggs, and melted cheese, paired with a sharp, dry cider served in a traditional earthenware bowl. 🥞🍎 . 📌 My tips for visiting · Check the Tidal Tables Religiously: Saint-Malo boasts some of the most dramatic tides in Europe; always verify the local tide schedules before walking out to nearby islands like Grand Bé or Petit Bé to avoid getting stranded. · Rent a Bike for the Coast: Skip the congested summer parking lots by renting a bicycle to explore the stunning nearby coastal stretches toward Cancale or Paramé. · Pack Windproof Layers: Even in the heart of summer, the Atlantic winds sweeping off the channel can turn a warm afternoon brisk very quickly, so keep a light jacket handy. 📸🎒 . #SaintMalo #BrittanyFrance #VisitFrance #OverratedSpot #EmeraldCoast #CorsairCity #TravelDeep #BucketList #ExploreBrittany #TravelDiaries

Last time I traveled to Brittany, I made a stop at Saint-Malo. Overall, it’s definitely worth a visit, so let me share some tips and recommendations. 🚅 Transportation: Getting there is super convenient. There’s a direct TGV high-speed train from Paris, departing from Montparnasse station. If you plan to return late in the evening, you can transfer at Rennes. The Saint-Malo train station is very close to the attractions, and you can easily walk to them. 🏰 Attractions: 1. Grand Bé At low tide around noon, you can walk directly to this small island that emerges when the tide recedes. From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Saint-Malo castle. 2. Môle des Noires This lighthouse is also worth a visit. You can capture stunning views of the beach, boats, and the castle all in one frame. 3. Saint-Malo Cathedral The cathedral’s large stained glass windows are breathtaking. In the afternoon, sunlight streams through the windows, casting a beautiful purple glow inside. 4. Grande Plage du Sillon This is Saint-Malo’s main beach, and it’s absolutely stunning. The beach is vast and long, with crystal-clear turquoise water and fine, soft sand. It’s a perfect spot to watch the sunset, which is truly spectacular. The water’s color resembles the tropical seas of Southeast Asia. 5. Château de Saint-Malo The Saint-Malo castle and its surrounding walls are a must-see. You can walk around the entire structure in less than an hour. 6. Le brise-lames d'Angelo Saint-Malo is famous for its dramatic tides, and the unique wooden breakwaters built here are worth checking out. You can look up the tide schedule and height online. Watching the tide come in during the evening is an awe-inspiring experience. 📷 Photography: Unlike many major French cities with strict drone regulations, the beaches around Saint-Malo allow legal drone flights. Capturing aerial views of the castle, beach, and coastline is truly spectacular. Bring your drone for some amazing shots. Additionally, the west-facing beach is perfect for sunset photography. Don’t miss the chance to capture the stunning colors of the setting sun.

Saint-Malo Castle, which flies the flag with a white cross on a blue background, a symbol of Saint-Malo's independence 🏰. It is now a municipal museum displaying nearly 10,000 items related to the town's history ✨. The castle walls give off a fortress-like impression, retaining a sense of historical atmosphere. It feels quite strong, haha. At dusk, the scenery becomes even more magical and beautiful ✨. It's lovely during the day as well, but I recommend staying until the evening to see it, haha! It's located in the north, so it's cold, but I highly recommend it!

The waters of St. Malo are crystal clear and blue, making people want to be close, and sailing on a sailing boat is a good idea. The boat slowly drove out of the pier, bypassed the white lighthouse, and looked back at St. Malo from the sea to see its beautiful outline. The boat swayed in the blue sea and talked with the boss of the boat in charge of his past experience and life. Everyone talked and laughed and relaxed. The boat is circled in St. Malo Bay. The tidal drop of more than ten meters per day and the strong North Atlantic currents in St. Malo Bay not only make the sea water very pure, but also rich in trace elements and nutrients. As early as 160 years ago, it was discovered that this rich seawater in St. Malo Bay can treat diseases such as rhinitis, nasal congestion and asthma in the respiratory system. As a result, many seawater hyperthermia centers have been built around the Gulf of St. Malo, which are favored by middle-aged and elderly women. The ship turned a corner and parked in a small harbor. The ship's boss took out fresh oysters and snacks from the cabin like a juggling, and there was just a good wine in the ice. On the spot, when you open a oyster and drink a glass of white wine, the French romantic life permeates every detail.

In Saint Malo, France, there is a small fish port, Dinard, which is a dinghy in Jomalou, which can be reached in 20 minutes. Due to its perfect infrastructure and superior technical conditions, Dinard has maintained its unique charm while maintaining the city. At the same time, there are many luxury villas built on the mountains and the sea. It is a typical wealthy resort. It is said that many Chinese rich people are here to buy their own homes. At the seaside of Dinard, there is a hotel called Castel Brac, which is a famous five-star hotel. The oyster afternoon tea is quite famous. All along, I think that travel should be integrated into the local, France is a free, romantic, and a little lazy country, so why not drink an afternoon tea here, taste oysters, blow the sea breeze, sun drying, Let the pace slow down, it is really a real trip.
