Peru Abiseo National Park Mossy Gran Pajatén Ruins Trail easytravelpost #RioAbiseo #GranPajaten #MossyCloudForest Gran Pajatén is the forbidden fruit of Peruvian archaeology — circular Chachapoya stone platforms with stepped friezes, sitting at 2,800 m inside Río Abiseo NP, a UNESCO double-listing (natural 1990, cultural 1992) that has been closed to general tourism since 1986. I didn't walk it; I stood at the Juanjuí airstrip watching the cloud line and talked to a SERNANP ranger who'd done the 6-day mule trek twice in 15 years. That's the honest frame: this post is a "how it almost works" guide. Access is Tarapoto → Juanjuí (bus 6 h, 25 PEN), then a licensed operator-only expedition — permits from MINCUL + SERNANP, issued for research/conservation, not leisure. Authorized groups run 5–7 days in/out, 500–1,000 USD/day all-in, mule-supported, max 8 clients, yellow-tailed woolly monkey corridors strictly off-limits to detour. The mossy part is the approach: Andean cloud forest between 1,800–2,800 m where every Weinmannia trunk wears 4 cm of bryophyte, the stone friezes themselves go green at the drip-line, and the site clears fog maybe 40 minutes a day. Mistake tourists make: assuming "it's on UNESCO lists so I can book a tour." You can't — only credentialed expeditions, and even those pause in wet season (Nov–Apr) when the Abiseo river swells. Another: the 1,000-strong monkey population is the real reason it's shut; don't frame the closure as bureaucracy. Would you spend 5,000–7,000 USD on a research-affiliated Gran Pajatén expedition if you qualified, or redirect that budget to the open Chachapoya sites (Kuelap, Revash) and leave Pajatén to the monitor? 132. Bolivia Ríos Negros Valles Cruceños Mossy Rainforest Drive easytravelpost #RiosNegros #Samaipata #MossyValleyDrive "Ríos Negros Valles Cruceños" maps to the Los Negros valley below Samaipata, 3 h from Santa Cruz (bus 5 h 13 m / 25–35 BOB, or 4×4 2.5 h). I took the 07:00 bus from Santa Cruz bimodal terminal to Samaipata (30 BOB), slept at a 120 BOB guesthouse, and next morning hired a taxi for the Cañon de los Negros river road — 300 BOB with wait time, cash only. The mossy drive is the unpaved stretch where the road follows the Río Los Negros: subtropical transition forest, moss on the riverside rocks and the citrus-farm fence posts 2 cm thick, 21°C at 09:00 in August, a swallow-tailed kite over the canyon. The swimming holes (Cañon section) are green-edged with seep moss even in dry season; I ate a 15 BOB salteña from the Samaipata plaza before descending, and the taxi driver pointed out the Amboró buffer zone birds I'd have missed alone. Mistake: I tried the Los Negros road in February — river crossing axle-deep, taxi turned back, lost half a day; May–Oct dry only. Another: Samaipata agencies quote "Amboró 500–700 BOB/4×4" — that's the park, not Los Negros; negotiate the river-road half-day at 300 BOB or you overpay. Would you pay 300 BOB for the Samaipata→Los Negros mossy river-canyon drive with swimming holes, or skip it and do the 30 BOB El Fuerte de Samaipata ruins instead? 133. Brazil Chapada dos Veadeiros Mossy Crystal Waterfall Trail easytravelpost #ChapadaVeadeiros #RioPreto #CrystalWaterfall Chapada dos Veadeiros NP sits at 1,000–1,600 m in Goiás, 40 km from Alto Paraíso. 2026 entry: R$40 foreigner / R$20 Brazilian / R$4 local, gate closes 12:00 (Sat–Sun from 07:00), last exit 18:00. I drove from Alto Paraíso at 07:30 in a rental (sedan ok in dry), paid R$40 cash at the São Jorge gate, and walked the Rio Preto trail — 2.4 km each way to the 80 m and 120 m falls. The mossy bit isn't the falls (those are sun-blasted quartzite); it's the 1.5 km boardwalk-lane through cerrado transitional forest where moss fringes the Candeia trunks and the seep-lines on the quartzite 1 cm thick, 19°C at 08:40, a hyacinth visorbearer humming at the Syagrus palms. The water at Rio Preto is the "crystal" — turquoise over white sand, 22°C, I swam 20 minutes then ate a 15 BRL pão de queijo from the Alto Paraíso padaria I'd packed. Mistake: I came on a Sunday at 10:00 — gate queue 40 min; weekday 07:30 or Sat 07:00. Another: the R$40 is park-only; the Cachoeira do Guardião (Kalunga community, R$40 + R$200 guide) is separate, 2 h further on worse road — don't conflate the two. Would you pay R$40 for the Rio Preto mossy lane + 120 m crystal fall swim, or add the R$240 Kalunga Guardião day with 4×4? 134. Brazil Itatiaia National Park Mossy Agulhas Negras Ridge easytravelpost #Itatiaia #AgulhasNegras #MossyRidge Itatiaia is Brazil's oldest NP (1937), split into Parte Baixa (P1, Itatiaia-RJ) and Parte Alta (P3, BR-485 km 13.5, Resende–Itamonte). Foreign entry R$23, 80-people/day cap on Pico das Agulhas Negras (2,791 m), accredited guide mandatory for the summit, register at P3 by 14:00. I slept in a 180 BRL chalet at Penedo, drove the BR-485 climb at 06:50, paid R$23 cash at P3, and walked the Prateleiras base loop (Campo Belo → Pedra do Altar, 5 km, 3 h) — not the summit (that's a 6–8 h rope-assisted climb, guide + 07:00 start). The mossy zone is 2,000–2,400 m: Araucaria and Podocarpus with moss on the Prateleiras slab edges 1 cm thick, 9°C at 08:00 in July, a Brazilian tanager in the Dicksonia tree-fern grove. The Agulhas Negras massif itself is bare granite above the moss line — the contrast is the photo. I ate a 12 BRL pão com mortadela from the Penedo mercado, refilled at the P3 fountain (no refill past the trailhead). Mistake: I tried Prateleiras in April — afternoon fog by 13:00, view gone; Jun–Aug dry and the 08:00 light holds. Another: the 80-permits/day for Agulhas sell out on holidays — summit needs a guide booked in Resende 1 week ahead, not walk-up. Would you do the R$23 Prateleiras mossy slab loop and skip the Agulhas rope-climb, or commit the 07:00 guided summit for the Mantiqueira panorama? 135. South Africa Tsitsikamma Storms River Mossy Suspension Bridge easytravelpost #Tsitsikamma #StormsRiver #SuspensionBridge Tsitsikamma is the wild coast section of Garden Route NP, Storms River Mouth off the N2. 2026 SANParks conservation fee ZAR 232/international adult (SA citizens less, Wild Card accepted), covers the rest-camp boardwalk to the 77 m pedestrian suspension bridge. I drove from Plettenberg Bay at 08:00 (60 km), parked at Storms River Mouth, paid 232 ZAR card at the gate, and walked the 1 km boardwalk — 45–60 min return. The moss lives on the coastal forest: yellowwood and stinkwood with moss on the boardwalk edges and the cliff seep-lines 2 cm thick, 16°C, a Knysna turaco calling, the bridge swaying 30 m above the black-stained river meeting the Indian Ocean. I stood mid-span at 09:10, the moss on the upwind cable anchor green, a dassie sunning on the far cliff, and ate a 45 ZAR boerie roll from the rest-camp shop. The second smaller bridge 600 m upstream is quieter — worth the extra 20 min. Mistake: I arrived 11:30 in July — tour buses stacked the boardwalk, no bridge photo without strangers; before 09:30 or after 15:00. Another: the Paul Sauer bridge on the N2 is 19 km away and not this one — don't stop there thinking it's the hike. Would you pay 232 ZAR for the Tsitsikamma 09:00 mossy boardwalk + suspension-bridge span, or skip the fee and do the free Nature's Valley beach walk instead? 136. Madagascar Marojejy National Park Mossy Tsingy Needle Forest easytravelpost #Marojejy #Manantenina #MossyNeedleForest Marojejy rises 2,132 m from the Sambava–Andapa road, trailhead at Manantenina (65 km from Sambava, taxi-brousse 5,000 AR, 4×4 transfer 40k AR). Park entry + mandatory guide 25,000–40,000 AR/day, porter 15k AR, camps 20k AR/night (Mantella 450 m, Marojejia 775 m, Simpona 1,250 m) — cash only, no card at Manantenina. I flew Tana→Sambava (180k AR), slept in Sambava, 4×4 at 07:00, entered 09:30. The "tsingy needle forest" is the transition zone at 600–1,000 m: granite needles draped in moss 3 cm thick, bamboo lemur territory, the trail to Camp Marojejia runs through it — 3 hrs from the gate, 26°C, a silky sifaka crossing the ridge at 10:40. Above Simpona the moss thins to cloud-fern moorland; the mossy hero is the mid-slope, not the summit. I ate a 5k AR samboa from the Sambava market, carried 3 L — no refill past Mantella. Mistake: I came in March — Simpona trail a clay slide, turned back at Marojejia; Apr–May or Sep–Dec only. Another: the 65 km Sambava road breaks in wet season; confirm with the Andapa office before paying the 4×4. Would you pay ~120k AR all-in for 3 days Manantenina→Simpona mossy needle-forest trek, or skip Marojejy and do the easier Andasibe indri loop? 137. Seychelles Mahé Morne Blanc Mossy Tea Plantation Forest easytravelpost #MorneBlanc #Mahe #TeaForestMoss Morne Blanc (667 m) is in Morne Seychellois NP, trailhead on Sans Souci Road 11 km from Victoria, beside the Seychelles tea factory. No entry fee, bus 7 SCR from Victoria to the Tea Factory stop, or rental car (parking 5 spaces, arrive 06:30). I took the 06:40 bus, started 07:10, climbed 50 min to the viewpoint. The lower 200 m is abandoned tea rows — moss on the terrace stones 1 cm thick, 23°C, a Seychelles scops owl calling pre-dawn; then it kicks into mist forest: Phyllanthus and tree fern, moss on every root 2 cm thick, the wooden platform at the top suddenly opens west to Port Glaud and Thérèse Island. I ate a 25 SCR coconut bun from the Victoria market, drank the 10 SCR tea at the factory kiosk before climbing, and watched cloud pour off the cliff at 08:00. Mistake: I wore trail runners in July — the mist-forest roots are permanently wet, slipped twice; grip soles mandatory. Another: buses back from Sans Souci thin out after 16:00; note the 15:30 or hitch with a tea-truck. Would you bus 06:40 from Victoria for the free Morne Blanc mossy tea-forest climb + 10 SCR factory tea, or pay 300 SCR taxi and add the Trois Frères ridge instead? 138. Sri Lanka Horton Plains World's End Mossy Cloud Forest Walk easytravelpost #HortonPlains #WorldsEnd #MossyCloudWalk Horton Plains sits at 2,100 m above Nuwara Eliya, 8 km loop (Baker's Falls → World's End → Mini World's End). 2026 foreign entry USD 25 + USD 10 service + 300 LKR vehicle, cash LKR only at the gate, no card, counters close 14:30, best light 06:00–08:00. I slept in Nuwara Eliya (6,000 LKR room), taxi 4,000 LKR at 05:30, entered 06:20. The mossy stretch is the first 2 km through cloud forest: Calophyllum and Rhododendron with moss on the trunk bases 2 cm thick, 5°C at 06:30 in January, a sambar stag 10 m off the path, Baker's Falls mist-green. World's End itself (870 m drop) is bare cliff — the moss is the approach, not the brink. I ate a 300 LKR hopper from the Nuwara Eliya town before dawn, carried 1.5 L (no refill inside), and hit World's End at 07:10 — 20 min of clear air before the 07:30 fog rolled in. Mistake: I came at 09:00 once — World's End a white wall, Baker's Falls the only payoff; 06:00 gate-open only. Another: plastic banned, metal bottle mandatory; the 300 LKR vehicle fee applies even to the taxi you came in. Would you pay ~9,800 LKR all-in for the 06:20 Horton Plains mossy cloud-forest loop to World's End, or skip it for the free Hakgala botanical gardens instead?

My husband and I recently stayed at Seasense for our honeymoon, and it was absolutely amazing. The hotel is situated right on the beach, offering stunning sea views and a serene atmosphere surrounded by palm trees. The service was flawless, and the staff consistently went above and beyond. A special thanks to Sylvana and her husband Adi at the bar, as well as Kavi, our room attendant, though everyone on the team was fantastic. The breakfast options were plentiful, and although we booked a bed and breakfast stay, we ended up dining at the hotel most evenings. The signature chocolate moulaux was extraordinary! We also highly recommend the homemade rums, especially the vanilla flavor - it’s exceptional. We treated ourselves to a couple’s massage at the spa, which was incredible, and the spa team was incredibly warm and welcoming. Overall, our stay at Seasense exceeded all expectations, and we completely recommend it!

Alright guys! Currently on the African leg of my gap year, and I’ve just finished an incredible week road-tripping around the Western Cape. I’m a bit of a history and classic landmarks nerd, so I had a few absolute must-dos on my list. Honestly, it did not disappoint. Here’s a quick run-down of how I spent my week, in case anyone is planning a trip down here soon! 📍 Days 1-3: Cape Town & The Peninsula You can’t come here and not do Table Mountain, can you? It’s an absolute classic. The views from the top are unreal, especially after driving down Chapman’s Peak. I also made a stop at Stony Point to see the penguins—proper cute, and much quieter than some of the other spots! And of course, standing at the Cape of Good Hope felt like a massive bucket-list moment. So much history there. 📍 Days 4-5: Garden Route & Route 62 Took a drive along Route 62 and through the Wilderness National Park. The coastline is stunning, and the little coastal towns along the way have so much character. Walking along the cliffs at Tsitsikamma was brilliant, definitely recommend getting some proper walking shoes for that bit. 📍 Day 6: Addo Elephant National Park This was my third 'must-see' landmark. Seeing these massive, gentle giants up close in the wild was just mental. Absolutely loved every second. 💡 Quick tips from my experience: · The weather: Since it's their cooler season, it gets proper chilly in the mornings and evenings. Pack a decent windbreaker and a warm jumper. · Plug adapters: They use those massive round three-pin plugs here, so make sure you get the right adapter before you fly out. I almost got caught out! If anyone is thinking of heading over or needs some advice on the route, drop a comment below! Happy to chat and share what I know. Cheers! 🍻

Hey guys! Just got back from an epic 12-day trip to South Africa. Honestly, this 37-year-old Penang uncle actually survived the long flights! 😂 Since I'm a massive history and culture geek, I had to tick off some major bucket list spots. Here’s what went down: 📍 Cape of Good Hope Standing at the edge of the world where the Atlantic and Indian oceans clash. The history buff in me was absolutely screaming! 🌊 Felt like an old-school maritime explorer (just with a mirrorless camera and a much warmer jacket). 📍 Table Mountain They say it's one of the wonders of nature. Took the cable car up because there was zero chance my Penang knees were going to hike that. The top is literally as flat as a giant roti canai! 🫓 The view of Cape Town from up there? Absolutely mind-blowing. 📍 Penguin Colony (Simon's Town) Met the local residents! 🐧 They waddle exactly like me after a heavy Nasi Kandar meal. Super cute, but don't try to pet them unless you want a sharp nip! 📍 Tsitsikamma National Park Beautiful coastal rainforests and suspension bridges. They have the world’s highest bridge bungy jump here. Did I jump? Safe to say my heart belongs to flat ground, so I just watched others scream. 😂 South Africa is wild, beautiful, and so rich in history. Now, time to fly back to Penang and get my Char Koay Teow fix! 🍜

#2024wish My fav post COVID trip was to South Africa to see family and friends after 5 years. I did the following route : Johannesburg , Durban, George, Pretoria in 3 weeks. As usual, the most fabulous scenery and delicious foods and there are plenty of amazing photos from each area of this trip, but more so the top foods we had every single day. South Africa itself is so large and has so many wonderful places to visit in each area. My favourite on this trip was the Garden Route , the first image is Wilderness Beach , and the second image is the fabulous Guest House called Moontide which is part of the Luxury Collection. The last image is the Lighthouse in Umhlanga Rocks from the hotel restaurant where we had a fabulous seafood platter! For 2024, my wish it to travel to Costa Rica

#summerbreak Traveling to South Africa is such a pleasure, especially if you stay and take in the splendour of Wilderness Beach. The wonder of watching the sunrise and sunset will astound you. Relax, let go of anxiety, reconnect with nature, and feel free to take a leisurely stroll down the beach. A wonderful area to unwind, observe the sea and imaginative rock formations in peace, and be daring to climb to the summit. Without a doubt, I'll return in the summer.
