I’ve been through the pitfalls so you don’t have to. 1️⃣ Suzhou | Jiangsu People say Suzhou gardens are always crowded, but that’s if you don’t pick the right time. ⏰ At 7:30 AM, when the Humble Administrator’s Garden just opens, there are only a few early morning exercisers. The mist over the lotus pond hasn’t lifted yet, and the stone paths are dappled with leaf shadows—this is the real Humble Administrator’s Garden. Kids can run a few steps along the winding paths while parents sit in the covered corridors enjoying the breeze. 📍 The bamboo forest behind Tiger Hill is completely empty, the rustling underfoot feels like stepping into another world. The whole canyon is short and can be explored in half an hour. The cliff carvings line the stream, making it very cool. For lunch, find a farmhouse restaurant by the Yellow River in Jia County. Try the clear Yellow River carp stew, milky white broth, paired with handmade noodles. My dad ate a big bowl. 🚄 It’s about a 1.5-hour drive from Yulin city to Jia County. Booking a car is recommended. 05 Zunyi | Guizhou In July, Guizhou is like a natural air conditioner. I chose Foguang Rock and Shizhangdong Waterfall, which are close by and don’t require mountain crossing. Foguang Rock is a red cliff rising from the water. Visit after 4 PM when the sun lights up the rock like glowing iron. From the viewing platform, shoot left-front to capture the waterfall and cliff in one frame. The waterfall’s flow peaks in July, and the mist cools your face. A long trip just to visit would be extremely boring. It’s only suitable for local short trips. The cost-effectiveness for long-distance travel is very low. 2. Attractions are very scattered, self-guided travel is exhausting Key spots are spread out. The city’s cultural sites, Wukeshu riverside area, forest park, and Korean ethnic village are far apart with no direct connecting buses. Public transport is infrequent with long waits.
