Guilin Li River: An Ultimate Journey Amidst Dreamlike Landscapes My darlings 👋, can you imagine that such picturesque, fairytale-like scenery truly exists? The Li River in Guilin is just such a place! It has captured the hearts of countless friends. Today, I'm presenting you with this super-practical guide to the Li River scenic area, so you can easily embark on your dream journey 🎊. 🏞 Three Essential Highlights of the Li River Scenic Area 1. Yellow Cloth Reflection The same scene depicted on the back of the 20 RMB note is right here 🤩! On sunny days, the yellow slabs at the bottom of the river resemble a yellow cloth spread out on the water, perfectly complementing the reflections of the green peaks on both banks. When a gentle breeze blows, the river surface shimmers, and the reflections of the green peaks sway, creating a breathtakingly beautiful scene 😆. To capture the stunning photos reminiscent of the 20 RMB note, it's recommended to visit on a sunny morning or afternoon when the light is perfect for amazing shots. 2. Nine Horses Painting Mountain Nine Horses Painting Mountain is like a natural ink painting 🖼. On the steep cliffs, the colorful stone patterns resemble a herd of galloping horses. Traveling in August doesn’t mean you have to squeeze onto crowded beaches. Head north, venture into the mountains, or go to places that sound cool just by their names. You can get there by high-speed train in two hours, stay overnight for just over 100 yuan, and have a meal for under 50 yuan per person. Compared to seaside rentals that easily cost over 1,000 yuan, these spots are true low-cost paradises. 01 Tonghua | Jilin At 7 AM, there are still few visitors on the stone steps of the Goguryeo relics. I walked alone along the city wall. The breeze was cool, and the scent of pine and stone moss was fresh. 📍 The ticket office at the entrance of General’s Tomb only accepts cash. I had to dig through my pockets to gather enough change. Remember to bring some small bills. ⚠️ Walking through the entire tomb area takes about an hour and a half. The steps aren’t many, but the path is uneven. Wearing sneakers is 100 times better than flip-flops. At noon, I turned into the rapeseed flower fields in Ji’an city. Don’t crowd the main scenic entrance. Drive west along the Yalu River for seven or eight minutes. There’s a fork in the road with a large, unattended flower field. 🚄 Taking a bus from Tonghua city to Ji’an takes about two hours and costs 20 yuan per person. That day, standing in the flower field, I could see a North Korean village across the river, with chimneys smoking and dogs barking. For lunch in Ji’an, we had Korean-style hot pot and rice wine for 68 yuan total for two. 🍜 I recommend “Ji’an Hot Pot No. 1” on Guangming Road. The owner will advise you to order less fire dragon meat or you won’t finish it. 02 Lishui | Zhejiang If you want to experience what it’s like to “work in the clouds in the morning,” go straight to Yunhe terraced fields. ⏰ From the end of the rainy season to late August, the terraces hold just the right amount of water, and the valley fogs up every day. I arrived at Baiyin Valley parking lot at 5:20 AM. Before the car even stopped, the crisp air flowing through the window startled me. A 20-minute walk down the stone path leads to the main viewing platform. ⚠️ Don’t wear white pants. Dew and wet mud on the path will leave marks. The experience at Jinyun Xiandu is completely different from the terraces. 📍 The Dinghu Peak trail takes three hours. It’s doable with kids who can walk on their own. If you have a stroller, it’s better to avoid the front mountain and enter from the back mountain greenway. At 4:30 PM, the stalagmites turn warm orange. Going at noon means a washed-out all-white view. 🍜 The sesame cake shop at the mountain gate only sells in the afternoon. Freshly baked sour vegetable sesame cakes make you sweat after one bite. Add a bowl of soy milk for under 10 yuan. 03 Nanchong | Sichuan Langzhong ancient city retains a very old atmosphere. I entered from the west gate at 3 PM. On the main street, you can still see an elderly man carrying a pole selling cold noodles. 📍 Turn right at the corner of Huaguang Tower into a small alley, and it immediately quiets down. Moss grows on the bluestone slabs, and elderly people sit by the walls dozing. ⚠️ Zhongtian Tower is closed on Mondays. Don’t make a wasted trip. 🍜 I recommend the “Old Brand Beef Noodles” on North Street in the ancient city. The chili oil base is rich, and the beef chunks are large. One bowl costs 8 yuan. I arrived at 7 AM that day. There was only one customer in the shop. The owner’s wife said in a drawn-out voice, “Today’s noodles are hand-kneaded. Take your time.” If you’re dragging luggage, don’t enter from the west gate. The stone path is hard to push on. The east gate parking lot has luggage storage. 04 Shigatse | Tibet If your budget is tight, you don’t have to camp at Mount Everest. 📍 In Shigatse city, look south. On clear evenings, you can see the snowy peak from the foot of Zongshan Mountain, dazzlingly white. 🚄 A taxi from downtown to Tashilhunpo Monastery costs 10 yuan. Walking takes just over 20 minutes. ⏰ After 5 PM, most tourists leave the monastery. The light turns the golden roof a warm honey color. ⚠️ To see Mount Everest up close, chartering a car from Shigatse to Rongbuk Monastery starts at 800 yuan. It only makes sense if you share with four people. If you’re alone, it’s better to give up this idea. Just enjoy the city view. 🍜 On Shanghai Middle Road in the city, there’s a sweet tea house. A pot of sweet tea costs 8 yuan, and you can sit all afternoon for free. Tibetan steamed buns are 2 yuan each. Three buns are filling. 05 Jinzhou | Liaoning Yiwulü Mountain is a seriously underrated place. 📍 It’s a 40-minute drive from Jinzhou city. Tickets cost 60 yuan. ⏰ I arrived at 8 AM. The stone path was covered in dew, making a crisp sound underfoot. The mountain isn’t high, but the steps are dense. My heart rate hit 140 climbing to Dawanghai Temple. ⚠️ The whole climb takes about three hours. If you’re with elderly or children, take the cable car up and walk down. Otherwise, your knees won’t hold up. 🚄 A dedicated bus line from Jinzhou station runs every half hour. It costs 7 yuan to the mountain gate. After descending, stop by Beizhen city to try Gou Bangzi smoked chicken. A whole chicken costs less than 40 yuan. 🍜 The “Qiu’s smoked chicken” shop on Renmin Road is tiny and easy to miss, but the flavor beats big brand stores. The chicken skin smells of smoked wood as soon as you peel it. 06 Baiyin | Gansu The Yellow River Stone Forest is one of the strangest landforms I’ve seen. 📍 It’s a one-hour drive from Baiyin city. Parking at the entrance costs 10 yuan with no time limit. Inside, you need to switch to an electric cart and take a boat. The whole trip, including food and tickets, costs less than 150 yuan. ⚠️ After 4:30 PM, the light no longer reaches the main ravine. Try to arrive early or you’ll only get half-lit dark stone pillars. ⏰ Late July to mid-August is the best time for the stone forest’s colors. Before sunset, the Yellow River water and the earth pillars turn the same color, like a faded ancient painting. 🍜 At the farm restaurant near the entrance, hand-pulled noodles cost 8 yuan a bowl. Paired with Yellow River carp stew, two people with side dishes spend less than 60 yuan. If you just walk the trails without stopping, the whole trip plus round-trip transport can be done in half a day without overnighting. 07 Anqing | Anhui Tianzhu Mountain can be enjoyed very easily. 📍 Take a bus from Anqing city to Qianshan station, then transfer to a bus to the mountain gate. The whole trip costs less than 30 yuan per person. I started climbing at 2 PM. Walking slowly to Liandan Lake, a thin mist covered the lake surface, like sauna steam. ⚠️ The Xiguan path is steep and hard on the knees going down. It’s better to go up from Dongguan and down from Xiguan. This route is shorter. 🍜 Near Sanzu Temple at the foot of the mountain, a farmhouse restaurant’s signature dish is Tianzhu Mountain free-range chicken soup. It costs 68 yuan per chicken, enough for three people. ⏰ If you only visit the mid-mountain and Liandan Lake, it takes three and a half hours. Add two hours if you want to climb the main peak. 🚄 The high-speed train from Hefei South to Anqing takes only 50 minutes, perfect for a weekend day trip. 08 Ankang | Shaanxi The name Ankang itself feels comforting. 📍 Qiancheng River Scenic Area is hidden in the mountains of Zhenping County. It’s a two-hour drive from Ankang city. The road is winding but traffic is light. The moment I got out of the car, all sounds disappeared, even bird calls felt muffled by a layer of mist. ⏰ Enter the valley at 2 PM. One and a half hours is enough. The sound of flowing water drowns out all distractions. ⚠️ Some homes along the mountain road keep dogs that bark loudly at cars. Don’t stop. They’re just noisy. Fengyan ancient terraces pair well with Qiancheng River. 📍 From Qiancheng River, drive 40 minutes toward Hanyin. You’ll see terraces stretching from the foot to the top of the mountain. ⏰ In August, the rice is green. After 5 PM, the side light enhances the layers. 🍜 At the farmhouse restaurant at the foot of the terraces, smoked pork stir-fried with garlic sprouts costs 20 yuan per serving. Rice is unlimited. Cooked over a wood stove, the flavor is stronger than any stir-fry restaurant in the city. 🚄 The high-speed train from Xi’an to Ankang takes one and a half hours. Second-class seats cost 50 yuan. It’s best to stay overnight and return the next day. Conclusion In eight days, I gathered eight places. None are viral “top spots.” They’re either so off the map they’re unknown or so popular locals avoid them. If your summer budget is tight and you don’t want to be gouged by tourist traps or see crowds, pick any of these places. Your total cost won’t exceed 500 yuan, and you’ll still have money left to treat friends to a meal. Share in the comments where you want to go first or if you have better budget travel spots for August.

Delve into Feidu Gorge and Huang'anba, and you'll find yourself in a three-dimensional world carefully sculpted by nature. This area combines waterfalls, rare trees, alpine meadows, and more. Known as the last secret realm of the Daba Mountains, it offers a rich sensory experience. 💧 Waterfalls and deep pools: a symphony of mountain water that refreshes the soul Entering Feidu Gorge, the first thing you hear is the sound of streams and waterfalls. · Clustered waterfalls: The canyon features more than a dozen tiered waterfalls. The most spectacular is the 50-meter-high Huoshiping waterfall, with an 8-km-long waterfall group above it. · Pools and falls: Below the waterfalls are deep pools of various shapes. The most stunning is Bobotan, where a 4-meter-high waterfall flows into an oval pool, creating a slow, lazy water sound. The water is crystal clear and pollution-free. 🌳 Unique trees and strange rocks: living fossils and geological wonders The uniqueness of Feidu Gorge goes beyond water to the ancient trees growing between heaven and earth and rocks shaped over hundreds of millions of years. · Living fossil plants: The forest coverage here reaches 98%, earning it the nickname "biological resource gene bank." The most famous is the living fossil plant, the dove tree (Davidia involucrata), along with the Jurassic cliff cypress, once thought extinct. · Geological wonders: The rocks in the scenic area have undergone geological changes from the Silurian to the Quaternary periods. The city wall cliff is a representative rock formation, majestic like a fortress wall; many strange rocks resemble knife cuts or animals crouching. 🌿 Huang'anba meadow: a cool world above the clouds Cross the gorge to reach the mountaintop, where 3 million acres of alpine meadow suddenly open up. · Vast grassland: At an altitude of 2,000–2,600 meters, it is known as the largest alpine meadow in southern China. In summer, the grass is lush and green, wildflowers bloom everywhere, and when the mist rises, it looks like a fairyland. · One step in two provinces: The meadow lies on the border of Chongqing and Shaanxi. Standing at the boundary marker, you can experience the wonder of "one step in two provinces, looking up at multiple skies." ❄️ 22℃ summer: natural central air conditioning The average summer temperature in the scenic area is only about 22℃. The mist from the waterfalls in the gorge brings coolness, the meadow is breezy, and you may even need a jacket at night, making it an excellent summer retreat. 🗺️ Travel tips · Route: It is recommended to visit Feidu Gorge canyon first, then head to Huang'anba meadow. · Transportation: Driving is preferred. From Xi'an, take the Baomao Expressway; you can also take a bus to Zhenping County and then contact the scenic area for pickup. · Tickets and hours: The reference price is 80 yuan per person. Opening hours are approximately 8:00 AM–7:00 PM. It is recommended to call ahead before your visit. · Accommodation and food: You can choose homestays near the scenic area or the Huang'anba ecological camp. Recommended dishes include Zhenping cured pig's trotters hot pot and potato cakes stir-fried with cured meat. · Gear: The altitude is high, so be sure to bring a warm jacket; also prepare sun protection, rain gear, and non-slip shoes. The waterfalls and unique trees of Feidu Gorge, together with the grasslands of Huang'anba, form a three-dimensional landscape painting. The 22℃ summer is a rare gift. If you have any questions about the driving route or accommodation, feel free to ask me anytime.

Travel date: July 25, 2026 | Weather: sunny turning cloudy | feels like temperature: about 15–20 degrees Setting off from Zhenping County in the morning, the car wound up the mountain road. The air outside the window grew cooler and sweeter. After about 40 minutes, we finally arrived at Feidu Gorge · Huang'anba Scenic Area. The scenic area consists of two parts—Feidu Gorge for canyon exploration and Huang'anba for alpine meadows. When buying tickets, the staff said you can drive inside with no parking fee, which is a thoughtful arrangement for the Dabashan region. Driving into the gorge, stone cliffs rise on both sides, moss covering the path. Not far in, the roar of water came into earshot—the Huoshiping waterfall cluster. A stream cascades down the hundred-foot cliff, splashing everywhere. Our group stood in front of the cliff, looking up silently for a long time. Continuing forward, we stopped at a temporary parking spot, crossed a wooden bridge, and followed a trail to Bobo Pool. A clear pool suddenly appeared, with a waterfall plunging into it—the sound of water steady and unhurried, slow, lazy, and calm, like a dream not yet awakened. A friend said this is the most beautiful part of Feidu Gorge. We sat by the pool for a while, doing nothing, feeling completely content. Deeper into the gorge, the roadside is full of oddly shaped stones—some look like they were carved by knives and axes, others like crouching animals. They are said to be remnants from geological changes spanning the Silurian to Quaternary periods. Afternoon sunlight poured through the treetops, scattering like fine threads on the stone walls—at that moment, you truly feel you’re not walking but moving through a painting. At the end of the gorge, the car began climbing the mountain. After 20 minutes, Huang'anba suddenly appeared before us. Three million mu of alpine meadows stretch to the horizon, the tender green grassland flowing like time itself to the sky. At 2,600 meters elevation, the mountain breeze brushes the grass tips, bringing refreshing coolness. Cows graze leisurely on the hillside, distant mountains overlap, shrouded in mist. Standing here, you feel all the depth and rush of the gorge was leading to this openness and tranquility. One interesting detail—Huang'anba is the border between Chongqing and Shaanxi. The boundary marker stands on the hilltop; one step across it is Chongqing territory. A local said this is called “one foot in two provinces, looking up at many skies.” Taking a photo by the marker is a nice keepsake. At sunset while descending, the meadows were dyed golden by the sun. A friend said, “If you come in autumn, the red leaves all over the mountain are even more beautiful.” I thought about it—summer has its own charm—not hot, fewer people, and the grass is just the right shade of green. 🗒️ Practical information · Tickets: 80 yuan per adult (annual tourist pass holders enter free). No parking fee for self-driving cars · Road conditions: The road from Huang'anba to Feidu Gorge has many sharp turns and is difficult for vehicles to pass each other. Sedans are advised to drive cautiously · Accommodation: There are guesthouses near the scenic area entrance, with standard rooms around 180 yuan per night; villas and hotels are also available inside the area · Food: Guesthouses serve Chongqing noodles for breakfast at 10 yuan per person; Zhenping’s cured pig trotters hotpot and stir-fried potato cakes with cured meat are worth trying · Special reminder: The altitude is high, with large temperature differences between morning and evening, so be sure to bring a jacket. Using Ankang Feidu Gorge · Huang'anba Scenic Area as a mirror, we can glimpse the core trend of future tourism development integrated with natural scenery: shifting from superficial sightseeing to in-depth ecological experience and value sharing. This is not just about simple non-destruction but making a healthy ecosystem the foundation and highlight of development. 🗺️ Trend 1: Systematic scientific planning replaces extensive development · Hierarchical planning system: Zhenping County has established a hierarchical system of overall planning, regional planning, scenic area planning, tourism village planning, and key project planning. Since the initial construction of Feidu Gorge in 2012, an overall plan was developed and approved, followed by detailed plans. · One blueprint carried through: This avoids arbitrary decisions and ensures every project aligns with long-term goals of ecological protection and tourism development, laying the foundation for sustainable growth. 🌳 Trend 2: Ecological protection is the baseline and the “red line” for development · Practice of “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”: In 2019, Zhenping County was named an innovative practice base for this concept by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. · Strict ecological controls: Implementing forest chief and river chief systems, with a forest coverage rate of 88.81%. An ecological access negative list was established, rejecting or halting 3 high-energy-consuming and high-pollution projects involving nearly 200 million yuan in investment. · Coordinated protection and development: Through zoning controls and institutional innovation, core ecological areas are protected while orderly development is allowed in designated zones. 🤝 Trend 3: Deep industry integration, moving from “ticket economy” to “composite economy” · “Tourism+” model: Promoting deep integration of agriculture, culture, sports, tourism, and commerce, such as specialty rural tourism in cured meat towns and traditional Chinese medicine towns, as well as TCM wellness and boutique homestays. · Extending the industry chain: Transforming agricultural products into tourism commodities and developing wellness tourism based on brands like “Hometown of Chinese Longevity Culture.” · Significant economic returns: Annual growth of over 20% in visitor numbers and comprehensive tourism revenue, with total income exceeding 1 billion yuan. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Trend 4: Community co-construction and sharing, making locals beneficiaries · Tourism poverty alleviation and rural revitalization: The scenic area has driven over 100 farm stays in the Shuhe River basin, helping more than 500 impoverished households escape poverty and increase income. · “Tourism + poverty alleviation” model: Guiding villagers to participate in tourism services and combining agricultural production and sales with tourism. · Co-construction and sharing mechanism: Future development will focus more on enabling local communities to benefit from protection, creating a virtuous cycle of conservation and development. ✨ Trend 5: Creating unique IP, shifting from “what it has” to “what it is” · Discovering unique selling points: The scenic area highlights “rare trees, strange rocks, waterfalls, deep pools, meadows,” and a cool 22°C summer, successfully selected as a top national summer cooling tourism route for 2025. · Shaping brand image: Building unique labels around “Hometown of Chinese Longevity Culture” and “The Last Secret of Daba Mountains” to avoid homogenization. From the practice at Feidu Gorge · Huang'anba, we see that the future of tourism development integrated with natural scenery will be a more scientific, greener, more integrated, more shared, and more unique development model. Its core lies in truly achieving ecological economy and economic ecology, allowing protection and development to move from opposition to symbiosis.

If you are tired of the fast pace of the city and want to find a place to completely relax your body and mind, then come to Ankang! Here you will find the mountains of Qinba, the waters of the Han River, simple folk customs, and healing cuisine. Three days here will let you slow down completely and heal all your unhappiness. 🌿 Day 1: Slow Life by the Han River Water Town Morning: Leisurely Time in Shiquan Ancient City No need to rush, wake up naturally, stroll slowly on the bluestone paths of Shiquan Ancient City, find a riverside teahouse, order a cup of Ziyang selenium-rich tea, and watch the Han River quietly flow by. Time seems to slow down here. Noon: Specialty Lunch in the Ancient City Recommended is "Shiquan Renjia" in the ancient city, where you can enjoy authentic Shiquan cuisine: Guiguzi cured pork, Han River small fish, dried tofu—these are local home-style dishes, authentic in flavor and affordable in price. Afternoon: Stream Trekking in Zhongba Grand Canyon Drive 40 minutes to Zhongba Grand Canyon, the most healing canyon I have ever seen. The creek water is crystal clear, waterfalls cascade layer upon layer, and the whole route is shaded by trees, making it very cool. You can take off your shoes and step into the water; the icy creek water flows over your ankles, washing away all your worries. Evening: Ancient City Night View + Barbecue As night falls, the ancient city lights up, red lanterns reflect on the river surface, resembling a Jiangnan water town. Then head to the riverside barbecue stalls, enjoy grilled skewers, drink beer, and feel the river breeze—this is how life should be. 🏔️ Day 2: Exploring the Secret Realm of Bashan Morning: Hiking at Nangong Mountain Get up early and go to Nangong Mountain. It’s recommended to take the sightseeing bus to the mid-mountain and then hike up. The whole way is through primeval forest, with air full of negative oxygen ions. Take a deep breath and feel completely refreshed. Noon: Vegetarian Meal at the Mountain Top Have a vegetarian meal at the temple on Nangong Mountain, made from wild vegetables and mushrooms from the mountain, all natural and pollution-free. The simple preparation makes it especially delicious. You can enjoy the mountain view while eating, which feels very ceremonial. Afternoon: Glass Walkway + Sea of Clouds Challenge the glass walkway on Nangong Mountain, suspended on the cliff edge with a deep abyss beneath your feet. It’s thrilling and fun. If you’re lucky, you can see the sea of clouds, with mountains faintly visible in the mist, like a fairyland. Evening: Specialty Dinner in Langao After descending, go to Langao County town for an authentic Langao specialty dinner: pot-cooked meat, konjac tofu, Langao cured pork—all stewed over firewood, fragrant to the bone. Then have a glass of local corn wine to complete a perfect day. 🍃 Day 3: Healing in the Countryside Morning: Fengyan Ancient Terraced Fields Drive 1 hour to Fengyan Ancient Terraced Fields in Hanyin, the largest terraced fields in Shaanxi. In June, the terraces are filled with water, like mirrors reflecting the blue sky and white clouds. The morning terraces have light mist, resembling an ink painting, perfect for photos. Noon: Farmhouse Lunch Have lunch at a farmhouse near the terraces, with vegetables grown by themselves and free-range chickens raised by themselves, freshly picked and cooked. Recommended dishes: chicken stewed with mushrooms, stir-fried wild vegetables, free-range eggs—tastes like childhood memories. Afternoon: Fruit Picking + Visiting Ancient Town Go to a nearby orchard to pick fruit. In June, there are peaches, plums, and apricots, all naturally ripened and very sweet. Then visit Xuanwo Ancient Town, a century-old town without commercialization, full of local life and a strong sense of everyday warmth. Evening: Return Trip With a heart full of harvest and relaxation, set off on your return journey. 💆 Ankang Healing Experience Checklist 1. Han River Night Cruise Take a night cruise on the Han River, with dazzling lights on both banks and a refreshing river breeze. There’s also a tea ceremony performance on board, making the whole experience very healing. 2. Tea Picking in Tea Gardens Visit the tea gardens in Ziyang to experience tea picking and making. Pick a bud and leaf by hand, then roast it into tea. Drinking tea you made yourself brings a great sense of accomplishment. 3. Hot Spring Bath Ankang has many natural hot springs. After a day of activities, soak in a hot spring to wash away all fatigue. Recommended is the hot spring near Yinghu Lake, where you can enjoy the lake view while soaking. 4.
