What travelers say:
Very close to the main tourist attractions but still off the beaten path, in a small alley (very pretty alley). Cute little houses, simple but typical neighborhood. Mostly locals, but they still have an English menu (only speaks Japanese though). Staff is friendly and efficient. I highly recommend trying the Oyako-Donburi (egg and chicken on rice), it's really delicious, but also recommend the soba noodle soup which is delicious. Very simple food but good, perfect for a small lunch. If you want to try simple local food in an out of the way place this is the place to go!

The locals recommended this small shop. The environment is very ordinary. There is no seat because of the busy business. However, the food was served very quickly. The barbecue rice is really delicious. The portion is not big and it is just right with the miso soup.
It's a bit like Cantonese clay pot rice, but lighter and more delicate than clay pot rice. This is an old shop, but there are still many young people patronizing it, and it is still very popular. It seems that many people like this shop.
Parent-child Well, it's really great! We happened to be near this store today and saw people queuing up. Then we looked at the reviews and found out that it's the signature dish of Parent-child Well, which has been around for a century. It's surprisingly delicious. 1010 for a bowl, add 150 for a large bowl. But the large bowl doesn't look that big. It's really delicious, and my 2-year-old baby can't stop eating it. It's very close to Hanami-koji, so you can stop by to eat on your way to Hanami-koji.
I finally walked from Gion to the store in the bitterly cold evening. I had been wondering why the word "gourd" was in the name of the store, but when I walked into the store I discovered the reason: it turned out that gourds were used to hold seasonings. Once you sit down, the waiter will immediately serve you hot tea and a menu. I ordered the Oyakodon recommended by an online blogger. After waiting for about ten minutes, the meal was served, and it came with two pickles. The hard-boiled eggs were quite tender, but there was nothing special about the chicken. Actually, it wasn't as delicious as I imagined.
