Gothic Quarter

Gothic Quarter is the heart of Barcelona's old city and the birthplace of the city. Around the turn of the millennium, the Romans established the settlement of Barcino here; remnants of the Roman square city walls can still be identified on many street corners, while many buildings were constructed in the Middle Ages, forming the profound backdrop of this area. Strolling through it, the streets are intricately intertwined, and small squares and narrow alleys layer to create a deep medieval atmosphere. Several iconic squares in the area each have their own unique features. Plaça de Sant Jaume is the political center of Barcelona, with the City Hall (Casa de la Ciutat / Ayuntamiento) and the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya standing on either side. King's Square concentrates the Palau Reial Major, the Roman wall ruins, and the City History Museum; the museum's basement also preserves walkable ancient Roman street ruins. Placa Reial is famous for its symmetrical arcades and palm trees. The Cathedral of Barcelona is a representative work of Gothic architecture, with white geese kept in its inner courtyard, a legend related to the city's patron saint, Saint Eulalia. Pont del Bisbe is a neo-Gothic style covered bridge, with a skull and dagger decoration hidden beneath the arch. Hidden in a courtyard behind the cathedral, the Temple of Augustus ruins, with several Roman stone columns dating back over 2,000 years, are one of the important ancient Roman stone remains in Barcelona.Barcelona · 477m from downtown

Montjuic Hill is a wooded hill in the southwest of Barcelona and the city's central park, a great place for jogging and walking. Due to the high terrain, it is also a good place to overlook the panoramic view of Barcelona. Montjuic Hill Park has witnessed the occurrence of many major events in Barcelona. It was once the venue of the Universal Exposition in 1929, and became the main venue of the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. In the past 100 years, various festivals and activities have been successfully held for Barcelona. Thanks for the hard work. It is still possible to visit the Olympic Stadium and the Olympic Museum. In addition, there are many famous museums and art galleries in Barcelona, among which the Miro Foundation, the National Art Museum of Catalonia, and the Spanish Village are all worth seeing.Barcelona · 2.5km from downtown

Mercat de la Boqueria is a public market with a history dating back to the Middle Ages. Today, under its iron-framed roof, you will find both local residents doing their daily shopping and tourists looking to experience the local atmosphere. The stalls inside are neatly and meticulously arranged, with fresh fruits and vegetables, Iberian ham, cheese, seafood, and candies spread out like an overturned palette. The deeper parts of the market are even more interesting. The seafood section displays sea urchins, red prawns, squid, and razor clams. You can have sea urchins opened and eaten raw on the spot, and some seafood stalls can even cook your purchase for you. The back area is home to many bar-style taverns specializing in paella and local tapas. Ordering a drink and pairing it with some snacks is a great way to get a taste of the local flavor. If you do not want to sit down, buying fried seafood or other prepared foods to eat while you walk around is also very convenient.Barcelona · 399m from downtown

It is known as the "Champs Elysees" in Barcelona. Passeig de Gracia is also one of the most important shopping areas in Barcelona. There are enough shops here for fashionistas to visit for a long time. In addition to Prada, Gucci, Loewe, Burberry and Dolce & Gabbana, there are also Zara, H&M, Mango, etc. High street fashion brand. This street is full of tourists during the day, and the shop windows along the street are dazzling. Even if you don't go into the store for shopping, you can just look at the shop windows. If you are tired of shopping, you might as well find an open-air coffee shop on the roadside, drink afternoon tea and watch the beautiful buildings on the street and the people on the street. Plaça d’Espanya is located at the foot of Montjuïc in Barcelona. Built for the World's Fair, it is one of the largest squares in Barcelona, where several major city thoroughfares converge, and it serves as an important gateway to the museum district on the hill. The square's attractions are concentrated along a complete central axis: a pair of brick-red Venetian towers flank the entrance to Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina. The square, boxy towers, standing dozens of meters high, once served as the main entrance to the World's Fair and are now iconic landmarks of the square. Pass through thetwin towersand head up the avenue, passing the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc, to reach the Montjuïc National Palace at the top of the hill. Looking up from the square, thetwin towersecho the domed palace on the hill. With its symmetrical axis and expansive view, such a large-scale landscape composition is rare in Barcelona. Tibidabo is one of the peaks of the Parc Natural de la Serra de Collserola, standing over 500m above sea level. Looking out from the summit, the city blocks stretch all the way to the Mediterranean coast. The mountain's name comes from the Latin "Tibi dabo," meaning "I will give to you," derived from the story of ascending a high mountain to overlook the prosperity of the world—a fitting description for the view before you: on a clear day, your gaze can extend fromMontjuïcall the way to the sea, taking in the entirety of Barcelona. Most of the mountain lies within the Parc Natural de la Serra de Collserola. The pine-covered slopes are crisscrossed with trails, often frequented by hikers and cyclists, making it a popular backyard for Barcelona residents on weekend outings. The summit area is home to several striking landmarks: the central bell tower of the Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is topped with a bronze statue of the Sacred Heart. You can take an elevator or climb the spiral staircase to the top of the tower to survey the entire city from the foot of the statue; the old amusement park right next to the church has been in operation for many years and even houses a museum with a collection of vintage automatons; not far away, the Torre de Collserola, designed by Norman Foster for the 1992 Olympic Games, stands on the ridge with its nearly 300m mast-like structure. The tower features an observation deck and can be recognized from many corners of the city when you look up.Barcelona · 6.2km from downtown

Barceloneta Beach

Barceloneta Beach stretches along the east side of Barcelona's old town, connecting with the old fishing neighborhood of La Barceloneta behind it. Historically, most of this area was covered by the sea. The construction of a long breakwater connecting to a small island, combined with silt accumulation and land reclamation, gradually formed the current coastline. Later, to accommodate residents displaced by the construction of a citadel, a well-planned fishing neighborhood was built by the sea. It wasn't until the eve of the Olympic Games that the entire coastline was renovated, resulting in the leisure beach we see today. Today, behind the beach lies a wide waterfront promenade lined with bars and small eateries. Volleyball courts are marked out on the sand, where people play, run, and sunbathe from dawn until sunset. On the beach stands the sculpture "Homage toLa Barceloneta" by German artist Rebecca Horn. Heading northeast toward Port Olímpic, you can see the golden fish sculpture designed by Frank Gehry, and looking back, you'll see the sail-shaped hotel. Walking into the narrow alleys behind the beach, you will find many seafood restaurants and small taverns. Paella is a common signature dish, and the locally created "bomba" (potato croquette) is also worth a try; it is stuffed with meat and can be served with spicy sauce or garlic aioli. Not far away, the Aquarium was converted from old port warehouses. The cable car spanning the old port connects Montjuïc to the western end of the beach, offering an aerial view of the entire coastline.Barcelona · 1.8km from downtown

La Rambla is a tree-lined pedestrian avenue in Barcelona's old town. It starts at Plaça de Catalunya in the north, following a gentle slope south for approx. 1.2 km to the Columbus Monument by the sea at the Port Vell. The Gothic Quarter lies to the east, and El Raval to the west. The word "Rambla" comes from Arabic, originally meaning a seasonally dry riverbed—this was once a drainage channel along the city walls, and the pavement now features wavy patterns that still hint at this history. The avenue is divided into five sections from north to south, each named after the monasteries and institutions that once stood here. At the northern end, the Font de Canaletes is associated with the saying that "those who drink from the fountain will return to Barcelona," and it's a traditional gathering spot for local fans celebrating team victories; the middle section is the highlight of the street, with rows of flower stalls making the "Flower Street" name apt, and the Mercat de la Boqueria right beside it, with a circular mosaic medallion by the artist Miró embedded in the pavement in front; the nearby Liceu Opera House and the Placa Reial, with its lampposts designed by a young Gaudí, are also worth a detour; the southern section ends with portrait painters and street performers, with newsstands and souvenir kiosks lining the way.Barcelona · 305m from downtown

The Castle Park is located at the junction of the coastal area and Little Barcelona, and is named after the ancient castle in the park. The Castle Park covers an area of 17 hectares and has a natural wetland, known as the "Green Lung of Barcelona". In 1714 Felipe V built the castle in the park, and in 1869 the castle was destroyed, leaving only an altar and an arsenal. The baroque arsenal is now the Catalan Parliament, opened in 1888 as the venue for the Universal Exposition. During the exposition, many new features were built nearby, such as the Arc de Triomphe, gardens and fountains. Among the most famous are the Three Dragons Castle (currently the Zoological Museum) designed by Mondanelle, the Flower House (now the Cultural Center) designed by Amagus and the awning designed by Foncere. Gaudí participated in the design of the details of the monument as Foncere's assistant. The "waterfall" in the north corner of the park is a highlight of the castle park. The waterfall is very magnificent and magnificent by the combination of fountains, sculptures and surrounding green trees. In addition, the lakes in the park and the Barcelona Zoo are also very popular, where you can breathe fresh air, feed wild ducks, and see the small animals in the zoo. There are several famous sculptures in the zoo that are also worth seeing. , such as Sorey's "The Lady with the Umbrella" and Imona's "Sad".Barcelona · 1.1km from downtown

The Gothic Quarter in Barcelona has a history of thousands of years. If you like history, it is worth visiting. It covers a large area and takes about a day to walk around the city. I like this feeling very much. It feels very romantic.

❤️Barcelona, Passeig de Gràcia, is the pride of Barcelona people. 🌟Count down those "weird" architectural artworks by masters: Figure 1⃣️-2⃣️: Casa Batlló, this is a story in itself. 👸 A beautiful princess was trapped in the castle by a dragon. The hero St. George fought with the dragon to rescue the princess and stabbed the dragon with a sword. The dragon's blood turned into a bright red rose, and St. George presented the flower to the princess. Gaudi's inspiration came from this story. The roof of "Casa Batlló" is arched, with colorful mosaic tiles and wavy glass ceramic pieces, like the back of the dragon, fishbone-like protruding balconies and colorful flying dragons hovering on the roof, and the cross-shaped chimney represents the hero. All these unique ideas add a layer of mythology to the design. Figure 3⃣️-6⃣️: Casa Mila, alien roof and art coffee shop. 👽 At that time, the wealthy Mr. Milà (Pere Milà) admired the Casa Batlló designed by Gaudi very much. Casa Milà was the last private residence designed by Gaudi. Now Casa Milà has become a cultural and art center, with one floor dedicated to exhibition halls and audio-visual rooms, and a suite that reproduces the modernist furniture of the time. The attic and rooftop terrace are the "Gaudi's Space" exhibition hall, which showcases the master's exquisite design and is most worth seeing. The chimneys on the roof that look like alien soldiers are fantastic no matter how you take pictures. ☕️ If you are tired of shopping, I especially recommend the Art Café on the second floor of Casa Milà, where you can eat some simple Western food and drink a cup of fragrant coffee. Figure 7⃣️-🔟: Barcelona's famous Discord District (Illadela Discòrdia). This short stretch of road brings together three buildings designed by three masters of different styles, namely the dreamy "Casa Batlló", the dignified "Casa Amatller" and the soft "Casa Lleó Morera". 🦁️ I really like the pink-toned House of Lions and Mulberry Trees. Unlike other buildings, it is not named after the owner, but after the lion (lleó) and mulberry tree (morera) in the decorative pattern. Although the exterior is not as stunning as other famous buildings, the old wooden carved elevator inside, the ubiquitous flower decorative patterns, and the use of colors highlight the vitality of this building. I wonder if the architect also has a girl's heart? 💗 Figure 1⃣️1⃣️: The Tàpies Foundation (Fundació Antoni Tàpies), which exhibits the works of the most important Catalan artists. Above the front of the building is the famous wire sculpture "Cloud and Chair". 🌹 Passeig de Gracia (Pg. Gracia) is a stunningly beautiful avenue where you will forget the passage of time.

Walking on this beach, the air is fresh and the mood is particularly happy. When you are tired, just find a bar to sit and have a drink to relax. I saw Chinese characters not far away. I walked over and saw that it was a Chinese restaurant, so I ordered beer, salted edamame 🫛, and steamed sea bass. I felt extremely happy. After all, this is Spain!

I've always loved sitting in the park. To look around and write about life as it happens. This park is no different and it's a masterpiece in scenery. I remember sitting under a tree and just writing a story about the scenery itself. Everything was just breathtaking and you can tell that everybody enjoys a stress-free moment. Writers, take it from me, this park is a paradise for inspiration.
