Brief Garden is the work of Bawa's brother, Bevis Bawa. Bevis was a famous Sri Lankan landscape architect who inherited the family plantation in the late 1920s and began to manage the garden. He cleared part of the oak forest to build the main house, created various landscape spaces and placed interesting sculptures in them. When the Brief Garden opened to the public in 1969, it was already famous for its vivid portrayal of Sri Lankan life.
