Bicheno Blowhole

Bicheno Blowhole

5.0/5
1 reviews
Bicheno Blowhole is located beside the town of Bicheno on Tasmania's east coast and is one of the four natural wonders of the Tasman Peninsula. It formed over time as waves eroded the reddish-brown granite coastline — sea water carved a narrow tunnel inside the reef, and when the tide surges, water is forced through the circular opening to shoot up as a spectacular water column over 10m high. Mist drifts across the rocks, creating a dramatic interplay of crashing surf and ethereal spray. Eruption intensity depends directly on the tide and wind, with the water column especially impressive during strong winds and swells. Unique reddish-brown rock formations surround the site and contrast sharply with the deep blue sea. In some areas, oxidation has given the rocks an orange-red hue similar toThe Gardens. Visitors can follow the reef walkway to view the blowhole up close, but should be aware of slippery surfaces and changing tides, and should keep a safe distance.Bicheno · 755m from downtown

Wineglass Bay

Wineglass Bay is located on the Freycinet Peninsula on the east coast of Tasmania, Australia, and is the signature bay of Freycinet National Park. It is surrounded by the jagged pink granite peaks of the Hazards, and its white sandy beach outlines a near-perfect arc that meets the clear, blue-green water, with an overall silhouette resembling a wine glass filled with fine wine. There are various theories about the origin of its name: one says it is because of its shape, and another relates it to the history of whaling in the early days. This bay is hidden behind a ridge and cannot be seen from the road. To catch a glimpse of it, you need to put in some effort: the standard route is to follow the trail over the saddle of the Hazards to the lookout, which takes about an hour for the round trip. The crescent-shaped white beach carves a clean arc on the azure sea and is a frequent subject in photos of Tasmania. If you want to actually step onto the beach, you can continue down from the lookout to the bottom of the bay, then loop around via the isthmus to Hazards Beach, forming a circuit that takes about half a day. If you are energetic and the weather is dry, you can also challenge Mount Amos to get a high-altitude view of the entire bay from the steep granite summit; however, it is not recommended to climb when it is raining as the rock surface is slippery. The town of Coles Bay near the park entrance and the nearby Swansea are common places to stay. Departing from Coles Bay by cruise or kayak, you can also appreciate this bay from a different angle on the sea, where dolphins are often spotted along the way, and sometimes whales.Freycinet · 32.7km from Bicheno

Freycinet National Park

Freycinet National Park is located on the east coast of Tasmania, Australia, and consists of three parts: Schouten Island at the southern end, the Freycinet Peninsula in the middle connected to the mainland, and Friendly Beaches to the north. Most visitors focus their activities on the Freycinet Peninsula. The star attraction here is Wineglass Bay—a crescent of snow-white sand nestled between azure waters and pink granite peaks. It is particularly photogenic when viewed from above and is the park's signature view. The park's vegetation is well-preserved, and wildlife such as wallabies and parrots are often seen along the trails. You may also have the chance to see white-bellied sea eagles soaring over the sea near the lookout. Hiking is the main activity. An easier route is to cross the saddle ridge to reach the Wineglass Bay Lookout. Once on the platform, you can overlook that white arc. If you have the energy, you can continue down to the bay to walk on the fine white sand. A more relaxed option is the boardwalk at Cape Tourville, which is several hundred meters long. It is flat, suitable for all ages, and offers panoramic views of the coast and Wineglass Bay. For a more in-depth experience, you can challenge yourself with the peninsula circuit hike. The entire route is about 30 km and generally takes two or three days. There are hiker campsites at Wineglass Bay, Hazards Beach, Cooks Beach, and Bryans Beach, where you can stop and rest in sections. The town you must pass through to enter the park is Coles Bay. Prices in the local area and around Freycinet are relatively high, and accommodation is limited during peak season. If you cannot book a room, consider staying in Swansea to the south or Bicheno to the north. Both towns have plenty of dining and accommodation options. Supplies within the park are limited, so you must bring your own drinking water for hiking and camping. Only fuel stoves are permitted in the park year-round.Freycinet · 36.2km from Bicheno

Port Arthur is Australia's largest and most intact convict settlement, forming a key part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Australian Convict Sites. Discover iconic ruins, over 30 historic buildings, immersive house museums, compelling exhibitions, and guided tours complemented by a scenic harbour cruise and self-guided audio experience. Set within 146 hectares of spectacular landscape, heritage gardens, and walking trails, visitors can relax and enjoy breathtaking views, shop for locally-made products and savour local flavours in our cafés and at our acclaimed 1830 Restaurant & Bar. More than 300,000 people visit Port Arthur every year, but the now sunny port has a dark history. In 1930, Captain Governor George Arthur chose the Tasman Peninsula in south-east Tasmania to hold prisoners who had reoffended during the colonial period. The peninsula and the mainland are only connected by a land less than 100 meters wide (that is, the Eagle Neck Gorge). From 1830 to 1877, 12,500 prisoners spent hard sentences in Port Arthur. The Tourist Services Center is located in the Port Arthur Historic Site building. Downstairs is a gallery with detailed explanations, where visitors can learn about the suffering of prisoners in exile in Tasmania. You can also take a cruise around the Island of the Dead (Island of the Dead) in the harbour, and if you are interested, you can visit the island. This is a hugely popular excursion in Port Arthur, a 90-minute ghost tour with a guided tour of many of the old buildings and stories of some of the creepy events that have happened here. If interested, be sure to book before 16:00 on the day.Australia · Port Arthur

Maria Island National Park

Maria Island National Park is located on Maria Island off the east coast of Tasmania. The island is car-free, and there are no shops or restaurants on the island. Visitors take a ferry from the town of Triabunna to reach the island and explore by walking or cycling. Therefore, the ferry must be booked in advance, and food and drinking water should be brought along with your luggage. The enclosed environment makes this a paradise for wildlife: wombats, kangaroos, and wallabies can be seen everywhere on the grass, and echidnas often scurry past the bushes. The island is also a breeding sanctuary for Tasmanian devils, and you may sometimes encounter these nocturnal animals. Almost all of Tasmania's endemic birds can be found on the island. You may encounter dolphins during the boat trip, and during the migration season, there is a chance to see whales off the eastern cliffs. The nearshore waters are a marine reserve with clear water, suitable for snorkeling, and after low tide, you can observe marine life in the tide pools. Cultural attractions are concentrated in Darlington. This is a well-preserved convict probation station in Australia. Prison buildings such as cells and warehouses from the 1820s remain to this day. The old prison has been converted into simple dormitories, and visitors can stay overnight in the former cells. Later, the island also hosted a cement factory and farms. Relics such as farmhouses and shearing sheds are scattered across the grassy slopes. The old coffee shop and commissariat store house exhibitions introducing the island's history, and the entire area is like an open-air history museum. Hiking is the main way to experience the island. The trail to the summits of Mount Bishop and Mount Clerk climbs through grasslands and woodlands. At the summit, you will find columnar rock formations arranged like organ pipes, offering views of the open sea and sky. The cliffs of Fossil Cliffs are densely embedded with marine fossils from over 200 million years ago. The sandstone of the Painted Cliffs is stained with iron oxide in layers of patterns; it is recommended to visit during low tide to safely walk to the base of the cliffs for a closer look. If you plan to stay an extra night on the island, there are campsites at Darlington, Frenchs Farm, and Encampment Cove.Maria Island · 87.9km from Bicheno

On this day in 2019, the driver's self-driving Tasmania team set out from the Royal Leisure Hotel in Launceston, passed the Bay of Fire and arrived at the holiday camp in Wineglass Bay. At this moment, the oysters and seafood for dinner were ready [beer][beer][happy][happy]

The sea water is super clear, it is a dreamy blue. It is a super large and beautiful free resort. You must not miss it when you come to Tasmania! The transportation is not very convenient. You can either take a day trip or rent a car by yourself, and then you need to climb a mountain road. The scenery along the way is also good. The bay and beach you see when you climb up are spectacular. There are few beaches, you can go down to swim. There are complete tourist facilities at the foot of the mountain, except that there is no supermarket selling things.
