Minghe Ancient Town is located in the southeast of Cixi, Ningbo, Zhejiang. It is 50 km east of Ningbo and borders National Highway 329 to the north. Built during the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty, it has a history of over 1,200 years. It is one of the oldest market towns in the Sanbei area and one of the few remaining ancient towns in Cixi that retains the typical style of Jiangnan ancient towns, earning it the reputation that "the scenery of Hegao rivals that of Suzhou." Minghe Ancient Town is built alongBaiyang Lakeand is adjacent to the Wulei Mountain Scenic Area, making it a true town of mountains and waters. A river flows through the town from west to east, spanned by seven ancient bridges from the Ming Dynasty. Along the river stand residences in the distinctive Jiangnan water town style from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Many of these are mansions built by the Ye family of Minghe after they made their fortune in the traditional Chinese medicine business.Yancang Zoumalouis a unique ancient building among the courtyard house complexes in southern China. The Shen family's old residence still preserves the announcements of their descendants' success in the imperial examinations. The lingering scholarly atmosphere on these notices is a testament to the accumulation and continuation of the town's culture. With over 1,700 years of history, the first ancient temple in eastern Zhejiang—Wulei Temple—andJinshan Temple, founded during the Datong era of the Liang Dynasty, are both near this small town. Accompanied by the morning bells, evening drums, and melodious chanting from the temples, the ancient town seems to take on a transcendent and mysterious aura.Cixi · 11.8km from downtown

Hangzhou Bay Bridge starts in the north at Zhengjiadai, Haiyan, Jiaxing, and ends at Shuiluwan, Cixi, Ningbo, with a total length of 36 km. It serves as a fast route connecting Shanghai and southern Jiangsu to the northern gateway of Ningbo. On weekends, it is very convenient to drive across the bridge to Ningbo and Zhoushan for seafood, or to Suzhou to enjoy the gardens. It looks even more beautiful when the lights come on at night. The bridge's winding structure spans across Hangzhou Bay, offering a visually stunning experience. The railings along the way are painted in seven rainbow-like colors, which not only create a beautiful and interesting landscape but also serve as a visual guide for drivers to gauge distance. Located in the middle of the bridge,Haitianyizhouis the bridge's landmark building. Its unique design resembles an eagle spreading its wings (platform + sightseeing tower: CNY 100). You can climb the observation deck to overlook the bridge and the scenery of Hangzhou Bay, and also buy local specialties like Jinhua ham andPutuoshan Guanyin cakes. If time permits, consider staying at theHaitianyizhou Scenic Hotelhere. Choose a sea-view room, and if the weather is clear, you can even catch the sunrise or sunset over the sea.Cixi · 27.3km from downtown

Wang Yangming spent his childhood in this building. The main building has a construction area of more than 500 square meters, with seven floors and seven bottoms, with double eaves and hard mountains. The main building is equipped with a display of Wang Yangming's historical relics. The exhibition shows Mr. Wang Yangming's splendid life as a person who "has made outstanding contributions, virtues and words" with detailed and rich picture materials and real objects. Near Duanyun Tower are Qinghui Jiaqi Tower, Dafang Yuedi, Hanlin House, Prefect House and many other ancient buildings.Yuyao · 17.2km from Cixi

Yangming Ancient Town is located in the core of the old town of Yuyao City, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. It is a characteristic ancient town with the purpose of promoting and inheriting Yangming culture. The ancient town consists of the core area of the ancient town, the old Yuyao Middle School block, the Jianjiang block and the Tianluoshan block. It includes three major blocks: the Fuqian Road Historical and Cultural Commercial Block, the Wushengmen Yangming Cultural Commercial Block, and the Longquanshan Historical and Cultural Style Area. Stepping into the ancient town, the ancient building style of blue bricks and black tiles, flying eaves and corners makes people feel as if they are traveling through time and space, and the rich ancient style and charm are overwhelming. The Fuqian Road Historical and Cultural Block is positioned as a "slow-life block where trends converge". Many emerging cultural enterprises have settled in, as well as experience exhibition halls such as the Yangming Ancient Town Heart Museum and the Craftsmanship Yuyao Museum. The Wushengmen Block will build the Yangming Memorial Hall, Yaojiang Academy and the supporting academy hotel, which will become a new landmark of urban culture together with Wang Yangming's former residence. Here, visitors can taste authentic Ningbo delicacies such as Liangnong cakes and crab meat dumplings, and buy traditional handicrafts such as paper-cuts and clay figurines. In addition, the ancient town also regularly holds folk activities and festivals such as dragon boat races and traditional temple fairs, allowing people to experience Yangming culture while also appreciating the rich traditional cultural connotations of the local area.Yuyao · 17km from Cixi

Cicheng has profound cultural heritage due to its millennium history, especially with iconic local ancient archituecture such as the ancient county government building and the Confucius Temple. Strolling through the town, you will see simple courtyards of ordinary people everywhere, occasionally mixed with modern buildings. West Lake

West Lake is undoubtedly the epitome of Hangzhou's beauty. The famous "Ten scenes of West Lake" surround its shores, where nature and culture complement each other, forming the core area of Hangzhou tourism. You don't need to visit every attraction - instead, spend half a day or a full day strolling along the lake. However you choose to enjoy it, the experience will surely lift your spirits. West Lake is the core attraction of Hangzhou, surrounded by clouds and mountains on three sides and the city on one side. The Su Causeway and Bai Causeway stretch across the lake, dividing it into several water areas. The lakeside scenery is highlighted by the "Ten Scenes of West Lake" from the Southern Song Dynasty, along with the later "New Ten Scenes" and "Three Additional Scenes," featuring over a hundred attractions along the shore and mountains. Pavilions, temples, pagodas, gardens, causeways, and islands complement the distant mountains and nearby waters, while legends like the Broken Bridge where Lady White Snake met Xu Xian add a layer of storytelling to the landscape. West Lake extends east from Songmuchang in Hangzhou and the north of Baolu Road turning to Shaoniangong Square, passing Baisha Road, Huancheng West Road, Hubin Road, and Nanshan Road to the south of Wansong Ridge, covering all attractions including Wu Mountain, Ziyang Mountain, and Yunju Mountain. To the south, it stretches from Gulou along the eastern foothills of Wu Mountain, Ziyang Mountain, and Yunju Mountain, passing Fengshanmen and Fenghuangshan Road, then following the West Lake water diversion channel to the north bank of the Qiantang River, turning to the Coral Sand Reservoir and ending north of Liufangling. To the west, it runs from Liufangling, Zhugan Mountain, Jiuqu Ridge, and Mingren Ridge to Meiren Peak, Beigaofeng, Lingfeng Mountain, and east of the ridge line of Laohe Mountain. To the north, it follows the foothills of Laohe Mountain (west wall of Zhejiang University), turns 30 m north of Qingzhiwu Road, connects to Yugu Road, Zhejiang University Road, and Shuguang Road, ending south of Songmuchang. West Lake has over 100 attractions, renowned for its "Ten scenes of West Lake", "New ten scenes of West Lake" and "Three reviews · Ten scenes of West Lake". West Lake overview You can explore West Lake on foot, by cruise, on electric bikes, via self-drive, or by riding. Among these, electric bikes are the most convenient and effortless option, with hop-on-hop-off sightseeing vehicles circling the entire lake. Riding along the lakeshore is romantic and leisurely, with many public bike rental spots available. For a boat tour, there are nearly 10 docks around the lake offering various vessels and routes. We highly recommend taking a cruise to Three Pools Mirroring the Moon at the lake center while enjoying the scenic views. Alternatively, you can hail a hand-rowed boat for a more flexible experience with a boatman guiding your tour. North line scenery The north shore of West Lake gathers quite a few attractions, usually starting from the remnant snow on broken bridge at the northeast corner and heading west all the way to Yuewang Temple. You can walk along Bai Causeway to Solitary Hill, visiting cultural attractions like Xiling Seal Engravers' Society, Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Chinese Seal Art Museum, and Zhongshan Park's Crane Pavilion. Enjoy authentic West Lake vinegar fish at Louwailou Restaurant, then cross Xiling Bridge to leave the island - Yuewang Temple and Breeze-ruffled lotus at Quyuan Garden are just a short distance away. If it's a summer day with strong sunlight, it is recommended to stroll along Beishan road, hiding under the dense shade of trees to admire the curve of Broken bridge and the swaying weeping willows on Bai causeway opposite. There are many entrances along the way leading to Precious stone hill, where you can hike for views, and descend to reach Yuewang temple. Yuewang square has many small shops for snacks, and the Impression West Lake show here in the evening is also worth watching. If you have ample time and energy, you can also head to Su causeway from here for a walk to enjoy the panoramic view of West Lake. Southeast coast (Lakeside-Nanshan Road) Another area with a concentration of attractions is the Hubin Road-Nanshan Road along the southeastern coast. Hubin Road is located at the junction between Hangzhou's urban area and the attraction, offering views of West Lake, a dock for West Lake cruises, and the iconic music fountain. The advantage of Hubin Road is its quick access from the attraction to the downtown business district, making it suitable for travelers with a tight itinerary to make a short stop. Head south from Hubin road and walk along Nanshan road, where you can visit attractions like Orioles singing in the willows, Long bridge, Leifeng pagoda, Evening bell at Nanping hill, and Viewing fish at flower harbor. The distance between adjacent attractions is not far, so you can walk or take a sightseeing bus or public transport, which are also convenient. You can arrange a day to visit a few of them according to your preference. Among them, Leifeng pagoda and Evening bell at Nanping hill can be visited in the evening. Listening to the bell at Jingci temple and overlooking the night view of West lake from Leifeng pagoda are both great experiences.China · Hangzhou

The Bund is located along the Huangpu River, stretching approx. 1.5 km in length. As a symbolic attraction of Shanghai, it features a diverse collection of international architectural styles and the stunning night view of the Huangpu River as its highlights. The Bund stands with dozens of classical revival buildings in diverse styles, including the renowned Bank of China building, Shanghai Peace Hotel, Customs House, and HSBC building, recreating the former glory of the "Wall Street of the Far East." Surprisingly, these structures were neither designed by the same architect nor built in the same period, yet they possess a unique harmonious beauty. The Bund showcases various architectural styles, such as French classical, French chateau, and Gothic, which are significant historical sites and representative buildings of modern China, forming a stunning scenic line along the Huangpu River. As night falls, the neon lights on both banks illuminate the sky. Board a Huangpu River cruise or ferry and glide along the river, feeling the gentle breeze. On one side is The Bund, a witness to historical development, while on the other stands Lujiazui, Shanghai's modern landmark. The graceful silhouette of Waibaidu Bridge offers a fresh perspective to admire the beauty of this vibrant metropolis.China · Shanghai

The Old Bund is located in Sanjiangkou, the center of Ningbo, and its history begins 20 years before that of the Bund in Shanghai. Today, the Old Bund still retains a large number of beautiful old European-style buildings, most of which have been converted into bars and restaurants, forming a leisure area with a very distinct atmosphere and becoming one of the primary attractions in Ningbo. It is quiet here during the day, with visitors in twos and threes strolling around the street and examining the old buildings. In the evening, the street becomes very lively, and the sound of music wafts out of the various bars. Lovers walk along the river and admire the charming night of Sanjiangkou in a romantic evening getaway. In the summer, the Li River is also a nice place to escape the heat for a while.Ningbo · 43km from Cixi

It's really a place with few people and beautiful scenery on weekends, and there are all kinds of delicious food. It's definitely worth recommending. Shanghai happened to be hit by smog and I had to escape quickly. Here, there are beautiful mountains, water and people. I like the company of fish and water, and there are all kinds of delicious lake seafood.

Although my trip to Yuyao was rushed, I still managed to steal a moment in the afternoon to visit Wang Yangming's former residence in the old town area. Located in the heart of Yuyao, the residence is free – a big thumbs up! For small groups, a guided tour is recommended. The residence is small yet fully functional, especially with a café in one corner of the courtyard. Wang Yangming (1472-1529), originally named Yun, later changed to Shouren, courtesy name Bo'an, commonly known as Master Yangming, was a native of Yuyao, Zhejiang Province. He was a renowned philosopher, educator, and military strategist in ancient my country, holding the official position of Minister of War in Nanjing, and was posthumously honored as Earl of Xinjian. Despite a life filled with hardship and adversity, he upheld virtue and righteousness, possessing both literary and military talents, achieving remarkable success. His unique "School of Mind" system, in particular, broke through the barriers of Cheng-Zhu Neo-Confucianism at the time, occupying an important position and exerting a profound influence after the Ming Dynasty. His disciples are found throughout the country, and his scholarship continues to this day, making him a giant in the academic world and a "teacher for a hundred generations." Wang Shizhen, a renowned scholar of the Qing Dynasty, praised Wang Yangming, saying that he was "at the pinnacle in establishing virtue, merit, and words," and called him "a first-rate figure of the Ming Dynasty." Therefore, it is worth visiting if you have the time.

Qilu·Visiting Pengshan It is said that the quest for immortality begins here, and the ancients mistakenly thought they were going to Penglai. The cliffs on the east side overlook the vast sea, and the Lingshi Terrace on the west side of Qindu Temple. The imaginary wandering monks left their footprints, and the first emperor of the millennium has been covered in dust. I have heard of the elixir of immortality, but how could Xu Fu ever find it?

Yangming Ancient Town is still very unique, with historical sites, delicious food, and a festive atmosphere. Langxia soy milk is very unique. It is the first time I have eaten salty soy milk with beef or mutton cubes. It feels a bit like tofu pudding and a bit like egg custard. It's a pity that it is closed on Mondays and some venues cannot be visited.

My second visit to West Lake was great; the boat tour was excellent. The dock was easy to find, the staff were very friendly, provided clear explanations, and helped with any issues. There were also sightseeing buses, which were nice but a bit pricey. Taking the boat tour and then walking around was both perfectly fine.

This trip with my two children on the Three Rivers Night Cruise was definitely a delightful surprise. The cruise departs from the Old Bund Wharf, a 50-minute journey traversing the Yaojiang, Fenghua, and Yongjiang rivers. Over ten bridges, including Lingqiao and Qinqiao, are brightly lit, and the reflections of the Corn Building and the Catholic Church on the river create a dreamlike atmosphere. The cabins are spacious and stable, so there's no need to worry about the children getting bumped or hurt. Stepping onto the deck and enjoying the summer night breeze is incredibly pleasant. The onboard audio guide narrates Ningbo's history in a captivating way, which fascinates the children and provides them with a glimpse into the local culture. The overall pace of the trip is relaxed and not tiring. The only downside is the short queue for boarding during peak season. Enjoying the blend of ancient and modern scenery on both banks while feeling the evening breeze is a fantastic family experience and definitely worth a visit to Ningbo.
