The castle was built between 1882 and 1884 by Baron Stephan von Sarter, a Paris-based financial expert, as his private villa. However, the baron almost never resided in the castle. The builder of Schloss Drachenburg, Baron Stephan von Sarter, was born in Bonn and was a banker who amassed great wealth through stock analysis. In 1881, he obtained the title of baron through generous donations and began constructing this magnificent castle.
