A town built on salt, sitting on a scenic peninsula is just waiting for you to wander through its medieval web of narrow streets and tiny romantic squares! It is among the favourite places of Slovenes and is one of the oldest towns in Slovenia. In its long history it has passed through the hands of many different rules that have left their footprints in the architecture, art and way of life. Today, Piran is known for its unmistakable Mediterranean appearance of a peninsula situated and fortified old town overlooked by the characteristic church of St. Georg. Its seaside promenade is full of inviting sea-food restaurants that serve fresh catch while the seagulls provide for an unmistakable sound backdrop. Piran is home to numerous interesting museums dedicated to the human presence on the sea, galleries, and an aquarium.
