Your trip to New Zealand’s South Island would not be complete without witnessing the majestic scenery of Milford Sound! The fjord is located 15 kilometers inland from the Tasman Sea. The Bishop's Crown Peak, which rises vertically from the sea, is about 1,700 meters high and is one of the highest seaside peaks in the world. Like other canyons in Fiordland National Park, Milford's unique fjord landform was formed by ice belt movement during the Great Ice Age tens of thousands of years ago. Some glaciers still exist, and huge blue waterfalls cascade down, forming a sharp contrast with the green tropical rainforest at the foot of the mountain. Milford Sound receives between seven and eight meters of rainfall each year, making it the wettest place in New Zealand. Dense rainforest clings to the cliffs, and it’s interesting to see seals occasionally plying the waters below. You will depart from Queenstown Airport and embark on a flight-cruise-flying fjord exploration tour, flying over rolling mountains, magnificent valleys, glacial lakes, etc., and then entering New Zealand's largest Fiordland National Park. A window seat is guaranteed, allowing you to fully experience the wonders of nature from the air. After arriving at Milford Sound, you will descend to fly over the fjord area, allowing you to appreciate this unique landform up close, and finally land at Milford Sound Airport. The staff will then escort you to the pier and board the Gem or Maiden cruise ship for a 1 hour and 45 minute fjord cruise. The voyage will pass through the Tasman Sea, where you may also have the opportunity to encounter rare wildlife. As you sail past cascading waterfalls and sheer cliffs, be sure to look carefully for seals and occasionally dolphins and penguins, while your captain explains the wonders of the area. After the cruise ship docks at the pier, the staff will pick you up and return you to the landing location. After leaving Milford, it's a different flight over more snow-capped mountains, back to Lake Wakatipu and descending back to Queenstown. The pilot will also give interesting explanations along the way to give you a different flying experience. The itinerary will provide hotel or Queenstown airport pick-up service.
