Reviews: Auckland: Rotorua Tour with Mitai Māori Village & Wai-O-Tapu

I enjoyed the cultural immersion into Māori traditions—it was both enriching and eye-opening to learn about their history, performances, and way of life. The warmth and hospitality made the experience feel authentic and memorable. Following that, the thermal wonders of Rotorua were equally fascinating. From bubbling mud pools to steaming geysers, it was like stepping into another world shaped by nature’s raw power. The combination of cultural depth and geothermal marvels gave me a well-rounded sense of what Rotorua is all about: a place where heritage and natural beauty meet in a say trip

Our guide was great. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Even though it was a large group I feel we were able to hear and see everything. Would definitely recommend.

Our tour guide was very informative and passionate about what she did. We learnt a lot about the Māori culture and enjoyed seeing the beautiful geothermal landscape in Te Puia. Our kids also loved seeing the baby Kiwi on site. The whole attraction was very clean and well maintained. We would highly recommend visiting this place.

Such a great trip! Grant (or Grant but in a kiwi accent) was a great tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and taught us a lot about the culture and history during the long van rides. Glowworm caves were cool but the highlight for me was definitely the geysers. The whole experience was great and am so grateful that they offer a trip like this including transport since Rotorua is quite a distance away. Note: this experience did not include a Māori performance or haka. If I read the description better I wouldve known that but that is the only thing I was a little bummed about. The experience is great, but just note what is actually included if thats what you are looking for.

Great museum and walk through history. Don’t skip walking to the waterfall, it’s worth the effort!

This is a guided walk through a Maori village and a self-guided tour of the valley with lakes. There will be no Haka dance performance in the village; that must be purchased separately. It turns out there are two companies in this valley, dividing the area in half. From this company's side, the geyser is visible from afar; you won't be able to get close; that's the other company's territory. But the colorful lakes, mud lakes, and other features are spectacular. The route is easy to complete with children. The village is also interesting; it's not a staged village, but a real one. Of course, the houses there are modern, but that makes it even more interesting. We were treated to corn boiled in a spring.
