Grafton Street

Grafton Street

4.4/5
33 reviews
Grafton Street is one of the two major commercial streets in the center of Dublin, as famous as Henry Street on the north bank of the River Liffey. It connects to St Stephen's Green in the south and College Green in the north, with brand stores, jewelry shops, and department stores concentrated on both sides, as well as many small fashion boutiques by local designers, making it a premier destination for fashion shopping in Dublin. Busking is an iconic feature here, with musicians, singers, and dancers performing year-round. It is especially popular on sunny days, and lively performances often continue into the night. The historic Bewley's Café preserves several stained glass windows designed by artist Harry Clarke. Ordering a coffee and sitting under the stained glass is a stop many tourists make a special trip for. If you want to taste a classic Irish coffee, there are also many cafes and bars to choose from in this area. When visiting, you might want to enter from the College Green end and stroll south to finish at St Stephen's Green. Trinity College is not far from the north end. On nearby Suffolk Street stands the bronze statue of Molly Malone. This cockle-selling girl from the folk song of the same name is a familiar city symbol to Dubliners.Dublin · 1.5km from downtown

The Spire

The Spire stands in the center of O'Connell Street, Dublin's main thoroughfare, and has become one of the city's landmarks. Nelson's Column once stood on the original site, but the stone pillar was destroyed in an explosion. The completion of the new structure was later seen as a symbol of O'Connell Street's revitalization. The design was created by British architect Ian Ritchie, with the concept of "bridging art and technology with an elegant and energetic simplicity." The structure is assembled from eight hollow stainless steel conical sections that taper rapidly upwards, looking like a silver needle piercing the sky from a distance. Such slender and towering street sculptures are rare. The tower's surface, which has undergone special treatment, changes texture with the light and clouds, and on sunny days, it often seems to blend into the sky. The lower part of the base is etched with patterns derived from underground rock core samples and the DNA double helix. At night, the base lights up, and the tiny holes at the top of the tower emit spots of light. Standing directly beneath the base and looking up, you can capture a striking image of the silver needle "piercing" the sky.Dublin · 585m from downtown

Ha'penny Bridge

In 1816, in order to connect the north and south urban areas of Dublin as a whole, the Irish built a graceful light bridge over the Liffey River, only for pedestrians. After the bridge is completed, pedestrians have to pay half penny "bridge tolls" to cross the bridge, so it has the title of "half penny bridge". When night falls, the Halfpenny Bridge will be lit with yellow lights, as if a golden bow is ready to go, lying on the quiet Lifei River, graceful and luxurious. Although the half penny bridge toll has long been abolished, Dubliners still love to call the bridge so, and the half penny bridge has become another scenic line carrying the history of Dublin.Dublin · 980m from downtown

The park is located on the north bank of the Lefey River in the northwest of Dublin City. It covers an area of 1760 acres and is a famous park in Ireland. The park was originally a deer park built by the then-governor, Duke of Ormond in 1663, to cater to the reinstated King Charles II and some dignitaries in Dublin at that time. After centuries of changes, it still maintains the characteristics of the 17th century deer park. The sound of Phoenix is the same as the Celtic Finniskk, which means clear water and green grass, and it has been passed down to this day. While the park was once a luxurious place of pleasure, it is now owned by the public, with its natural surroundings and herds of reindeer bringing joy to tens of thousands of visitors.Dublin · 4.6km from downtown

The square was built in the early 19th century and is the best-preserved square in Dublin. The green grass and flower-filled park is surrounded by Georgian red-brick houses on three sides, and the Natural History Museum and the National Gallery of Ireland are scattered on the west side of the square. Until the 1950s, most of the houses on the square were used for residential use. The famous poet Yeats lived in the square at number 82, and Irish nationalist representative Daniel O'Connell lived at number 58. So don't be surprised to see many houses with plaques in the square, which may record the historical stories of former famous residents. In addition, there are many bronze statues of famous people in the park. Among them, the one that is more popular with tourists is the one that Wilde leaned against the stone to tease.Dublin · 2km from downtown

Legend has it that in the past it cost half a penny to cross the bridge, so it was called the Halfpenny Bridge. It's just an ordinary bridge, but the hidden surprise is the seagulls that are not afraid of people at all, and the scenery on both sides of the River Liffey can be seen from the bridge.

Be warned, to walk all the way through takes about an hour and there are no busses that stop in the park- they only drive through and stop either side, but the park itself is beautiful and easy to spend that much time wandering in, the deer are usually in the upper end of the park after the cricket field, there are a few food carts dotted around and also Dublin zoo located in the park

St. Stephen's Green is Ireland's most famous Victorian park, reopened to all citizens of Dublin by Lord Ardilaun in 1880. This 9-hectare park has maintained its traditional Victorian layout, with lush trees and shrubs, and spectacular Victorian spring and summer flower beds. Herbaceous plants on the edge of the flower beds add a touch of color to the garden from early spring to late autumn.

The Irish Archaeological Museum is located in the city museum of Dublin. Although it is not very large, the products inside are very rich. In particular, some bog bodies unearthed inside have a history of more than 5,000 years. The skin of these bodies can still be preserved. It is really incredible and worth visiting.
