Our tour started at 3:45 am when our tour representative Hazem came to the hotel to pick us up. The minivan we rode in was very spacious and comfortable. After picking up everyone , we set out at 4:15 am and spent about 3.5 hours on the road. After arriving at the temples at about 8 am, our guide Waleed Adnan gave us a lecture on the history of Abu Simbel, the Nubian people, and king Ramesses II. As a Nubian himself, Waleed was very knowledgeable on both Nubian writings and Egyptian hieroglyphs. He also speaks 5 languages, which is very impressive. After that, we had 1 hour free time to explore both temples, and started to head back at around 10 am. The sun was already scorching at 9 am, so it really makes sense to be here early.

This trip was incredible. You worry the long drive won’t be worth it but it is. This was the most amazing experience of my time in Egypt and easily the best site (and we saw most). Make sure to do the 7am trip as by the time you arrive at Abu Simbel the thousands of people on coaches are just leaving. We got the place to ourselves, with just a handful of people arriving at the end.

It was a great trip. The car was good, the driver also. He was very friendly and drive us safely to the temple and back. All was very good organized. Thank for the wonderful day.

It's a fairly long drive from Aswan to Abu Simbel. But it's a must-see site in Egypt. A French guide is available for some explanations outside of the temples. Afterward, it's a self-guided tour of the temples.


