It's very convenient; you don't have to mess around with swapping SIM cards, or even switching anything. We visited Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore, and everything worked without a hitch. I had just stepped out of Kuala Lumpur airport, hit by a wave of heat, but my phone had no signal.
