Despite the overnight trip, our tour was still easy. 1. A huge thank you to our driver 4111, who thoughtfully stopped the car at various places so we could eat and rest. I'm a foreigner and my Chinese isn't very good, but the guide spoke so clearly and understandably that we didn't even need translation. The car was also very comfortable for such long excursions; I took a pillow under my head and slept from stop to stop. 2. We were very lucky with the weather, so we saw both the sunrise and the starry sky. We were very satisfied.

The driver was very enthusiastic and made sufficient stops at each point. The driving was very smooth. This tour was excellent value; those traveling independently should definitely consider this tour. We were very lucky to see the sunrise over the snow-capped mountains.

Balagezong Scenic Area is about a 1.5-hour drive from Shangri-La. Along the way, you can see the beautiful Grand Canyon scenery. Inside the scenic area, you can get up close to the snow-capped mountains and the Shangri-La Grand Canyon. The shuttle bus service within the scenic area is well-organized, making it a great day trip.

Manage your expectations before booking this tour. I checked the weather forecast and knew the chances of seeing stars, the mountains and golden sunrise at Meili were slim to none. I decided to chance it and went anyway. True enough, we encountered cloud cover that hid the stars and mountains, and golden sunrise. The late morning was much better. We saw some really nice scenery. My 3am pickup is at Dukezong North Gate, but they can also pickup from the East Gate. Do be aware of the cancellation policy before booking this tour in case the weather suddenly turns bad. Sufficient toilet breaks and rest time are factored into the tour. I don't know why but the tour ended earlier than stated.

There was a discrepancy between the itinerary and the original explanation, but I communicated with the customer service center and resolved it successfully. Although I missed the sunrise at Geumsan, I saw beautiful scenery everywhere thanks to the driver's skillful driving.
