Furano, the colorful hills of the four seasons, Shirahige Falls—a very fulfilling day.

On July 19, 2026, I took a day trip. I had booked a large bus tour, but due to insufficient participants, I was upgraded to a smaller car tour for free, and luckily, I even got to sit in the front passenger seat. There were nine people in the group, half of whom were foreigners. Our driver and guide, Mimi, was a young woman from Beijing. She was fluent in both Japanese and English, very knowledgeable, and a skilled driver. She also cleverly avoided peak-hour parking queues (it was a three-day weekend in Japan, so there were many cars). The experience was excellent. The weather was also nice, mostly cloudy, with rain only at the end of our visit to Shikisai-gaoka. Although the lavender in Furano was almost finished blooming, and other flowers weren't in full bloom, on a sunny summer day, Biei felt like a scene from a manga.

The season was a bit wrong, it was too cold, but the ski resort was still pretty good.
Reviews: [Official Ticket] JR PASS Hokkaido Rail Pass (electronic exchange voucher)

It's very practical, but it's a bit of a loss if the railway is operating in winter. Hokkaido has beautiful scenery, but train tickets are too expensive. Using this is more cost-effective if you're visiting multiple places. However, if there's a blizzard and the railway stops, there are no refunds.

I went on the Biei & Furano bus tour yesterday. Starting from Sapporo, the tour covered the Blue Pond, Shirahige Falls, Mt. Shikisai no Oka, and Farm Tomita all in one day, making it a very satisfying overall experience. The scenery at each site was beautiful, and while it would have been difficult to coordinate transportation and schedules if I had traveled independently, it was great to be able to move around comfortably by private bus. In particular, the mysterious colors of the Blue Pond and the refreshing scenery of Shirahige Falls were impressive, and I was able to take many photos while admiring the various flowers at Mt. Shikisai no Oka and Farm Tomita. The guide provided necessary information and informed us of the meeting times at each location, and the driver drove safely during the long journeys, allowing for a comfortable trip. Although the one-day itinerary was long, I think it is a good value in terms of both time and cost, as it allows you to visit Hokkaido's representative attractions all at once. I would recommend it for family trips with parents or children. However, I arrived late during the tour because I mistook the meeting time. I should have checked the scheduled time properly, and I am truly sorry for making the other passengers wait due to my mistake. I sincerely apologize to the other travelers who waited for us, and I would like to apologize once again to the guide and driver for the inconvenience caused to the itinerary. However, I was grateful for their patient waiting and for ensuring the rest of the schedule proceeded smoothly. This incident has taught me that I must be much more meticulous about checking meeting times for group tours. Overall, it was a comfortable and fulfilling tour, and I would recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Hokkaido.
