I had my honeymoon last month in Greece and this was the most memorable and wonderful experience we had on our entire trip. It was just happenstance that I was able to find and book with Ed for the all day Heraklion tour. We were also lucky enough to have his wife along for the tour as well! Not only was it a nice and small group (that is the only way they book, 6 people max) but it was FILLED to the brim with activities for the whole day. Ed and Katie showed us a real glimpse at life in Crete. Absolutely beyond the touristy surface. We saw an olive oil factory that was small and family owned, we went to a local family pottery, a family owned restaurant as well as that family’s farm where we were able to pick and taste a lot of the ingredients they cooked with! We saw the windmills, and the mountains, Zeus’ birthplace. Too much to list! And the pictures were phenomenal! Don’t even question it. The price is unbelievable right? Believe it. And use cash if you can! This is great for all ages, we had two young ones on our tour and they kept up great! Expect to drink a little, but no pressure. Expect to eat great food with wonderful company and lastly, expect to fall in love with Heraklion in a way you never anticipated! When we come back, we’ll be booking again with Ed!

Reviews: Day Trip to Agios Nikolaos and Spinalonga Island

We done this trip on 3rd October with Altino Travel Services. A short journey from Hersonissos to our first stop at the coastal city of Agios Nikolaos. We visited a few souvenir shops on route to view the lake from above. Then walked down to the harbour and finished off with the statue of Zeus. AN is much less touristy than Heraklion and Chania and a real treasure. Then a short drive up to the small village of Elounda for some lunch before the boat journey over to Spinalonga Island. Our Lady Guide (didn't get her name) was fantastic, gave great insight to the places visited and the Island of Crete in general. She spoke perfect English and French and was great fun. Spinalonga Island is a must visit for those interested in culture and history. We first done the boat around the island then disembarked for 1.5 hours to explore. You can easily walk around the base of the island in a hour. It is a little bit hilly in places but nothing too difficult. For those who want to see the upper part of the island and take in the best views you need to take a lot of steps or slopes so need to be quite fit. On the way back to Elounda, some of the group were able to take a swim around the boat in the shallow and clear waters. We then headed back late afternoon. The trip was around 9 hours overall and great value.
