I only used it on the South Island, and the signal was perfect near cities. However, between towns and in remote areas, there was almost no signal or only one bar. But given how cheap it is, it's hard to say it's bad. I suggest finding your route, attractions, and restaurant information in advance, as you might not be able to find internet access while traveling.★
