Daocheng Yading, also known as Yading Nature Reserve, is known by locals as Aden Scenic Area. Located in the southern part of Daocheng County in Ganzi Prefecture, it is mainly composed of three mountains, Xiannairi, Yangmaiyong, and Xianuoduoji, as well as surrounding rivers, lakes, and alpine meadows. There are not only magnificent and sacred snow-capped mountains in the scenic area, but also vast meadows, colorful forests, and blue crystal clear lakes. Hiking on foot like the local Tibetans is a better way to experience the scenery in Yading. However, due to the high altitude of the Aden Protected Area, the entire walk still requires considerable physical fitness.Daocheng County · 64.3km from downtown

Mugecuo(Full name:Mugecuo, located in the middle section of the Gongga Mountains, is about 17 km from Kangding city center. It is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a World Natural Heritage nominee, and a key scenic area. The attraction serves as a core component of the "Two-Hour Economic Circle Around Gongga Tourism." With an elevation of 2,800–3,780 m, it lies at the northern foot of the Hengduan Mountains, part of the Daxue Mountain Range, and marks the western edge of the Sichuan Basin.Qinghai-Tibet PlateauThis transitional zone features a water area of nearly 4 km² with depths exceeding 70 meters. Most of the water comes from melted snow off the Nuwa Snow Mountain behind it, resulting in exceptional visibility of approximately 6–10 meters. The attraction showcases a stunning landscape with alpine lakes, primeval forests, hot springs, snow-capped peaks, peculiar rock formations, and the 8 km-long Thousand Waterfalls Gorge. The ingeniously designed scenic spots make it an ideal destination for sightseeing, recreation, relaxation, recuperation, fitness, summer retreats, and scientific research. The attraction is located in the sub-humid climate zone of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, featuring cool summers and autumns but severe cold in winter and spring. The specific climate conditions are as follows: From late December to February, the lake surface freezes, thawing in March. Temperatures remain low before April. During summer, the average monthly temperature ranges from 10–14°C. Due to the high-altitude terrain, the attraction experiences significant daily temperature variations, with warm afternoons—visitors should prepare for cold weather. Snowfall occurs after late October, offering scenic snow views, though snow accumulation is short-lived. Visitors should pack appropriate clothing according to the season and climate characteristics and be mindful of altitude sickness, carrying necessary medication if needed. The scenic area covers approximately 350 km², consisting ofRhododendron Gorge,Fangcaoping,Kangding Love Song (Mugecuo) Scenic Area - Seven-Color LakeYaochi Hot Springs, Mugecuo (Wild Man Lake), andRed Sea GrasslandSix attractions combinationNearby, there are several other alpine lakes and hot springs, where pristine forests, grasslands, and snow-capped mountain views blend seamlessly. The attraction boasts unique local customs, serving as the birthplace of love songs and the cradle of Khampa culture. It is also the starting point for Sichuan-Tibet travel. The Fangcaoping grassland spans over 60,000 square meters, divided into inner and outer sections by the central white pagoda. Every June, this lush green meadow covered with Gesang flowers served as one of the primary filming locations for both the movie "The New Love Song of Kangding" starring Alec Su and the TV series "The Warriors" produced by August First Film Studio to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Red Army's Long March victory. The Mugecuo Scenic Area (Kangding Love Song) - Seven Color Lake is located at an altitude of 3,200 meters, forming a plateau lake where lake water blends with hot springs. The crescent-shaped lake covers approx. 20 hectares with a depth of over 20 meters, surrounded by forests and meadows in serene tranquility. Its crystal-clear waters shift through seven hues under sunlight and weather changes, hence the poetic name. Azalea Valley connects to the east and joins Wild Man Lake to the west, stretching 8 km in length. Within the valley, streams alternate between rushing rapids and gentle flows, creating a sparkling spectacle. Both banks are lush with vegetation, particularly the pristine azalea forests that stand out. The azaleas here display a stunning variety of forms and vibrant colors. The valley weaves together hot springs, lakes, meadows, peculiar peaks, and cascading waterfalls, presenting an unspoiled natural landscape. Walking through it brings a sense of tranquility and delight. Mugecuo, also known as Wild Man Lake, is one of the high-altitude lakes in northern Sichuan. With a water area of nearly 4 sq km, it reaches depths of over 70m and sits at an elevation of 3,700m. Surrounded by mountains, forests, and grasslands, it's encircled by dozens of smaller lakes like Red Sea, Black Sea, and White Sea, creating a star-like constellation. The golden beach on its left side, renowned as Lovers' Beach, is a major highlight. Its fine, soft sand naturally appears golden—a rare phenomenon for lakeside formations in the western Sichuan plateau region. The Red Sea Grassland derives its name from the alpine lake—Red Sea. Local Tibetans refer to it as "Little Haizi" to distinguish it from the sacred lake "Mugecuo," known as "Big Haizi." With lush green grass and wildflowers everywhere, travelers can personally experience the breathtaking beauty of Gesang flowers beneath the snow-capped mountains, their delicate fragrance permeating the air.Kangding · 20.8km from downtown

Moshi Park Scenic Spot is located in Bamei Town, south of Daofu County. Naturally, it belongs to the northern end of the Daxue Mountains in the Hengduan Mountains. People usually call this scenic spot Bamei Stone Forest, but according to the professional definition, it has different names, emphasizing its tectonic function, and it is called "tectonic stone forest". There are many stone forests in the world, but most of them are karst stone forests and sandy stone forests. Stone forests formed by special geological landforms like Moshi Park Scenic Area are very rare. Looking at the scenic spot from a distance, you can tell it at a glance from the color tone. The stone forest is gray toned, and the mountains, woods, grasslands, and flowing water around it are colorful. These changeable colors are like the changing scenery of the stage, and also make the stone forest present different beauty in different seasons. In summer, the green hills are green and green, green grass and wild flowers are everywhere, and the stone forest is like a gem resting on a colorful carpet; in autumn, the mountains are full of golden withered grass, fiery red maple trees, and the stone forest seems to be reborn from the ashes.Daofu · 71.7km from downtown

Cuopugou National Forest Park is located in Chaluo Township between Litang County and Batang County, and the Sichuan-Tibet Line of National Highway 318 passes through the mouth of the valley. Cuopugou is a collection of snow mountains, forests, lakes, hot springs and pastures, which is quite Swiss. With beautiful scenery and different seasons, it is a dazzling pearl on the Sichuan-Tibet line. Cuopu Valley is famous for its Cuopu Lake, which is surrounded by mountains, close to Zhajinjiabo sacred mountain with peculiar mountain shape, with Nitegangri Peak on the front, surrounded by virgin forests, beautiful scenery, and fish schools in the lake shuttle, which is an original ecology scenery. In the woods by the lake stands the Cuopu Temple. Around the temple, groups of Tibetan horse pheasants can be seen foraging here, without fear of monks and pedestrians. The monks in the Gein Temple fed and raised for a long time, and gradually the wild animals no longer feared humans, and even strung into the temple unscrupulously to look for food, which was a spectacle. Another unique landscape of Cuopugou is the hot spring group in Chaluo Township. Numerous springs are scattered on hillsides, in forests, in fields, under cliffs, in caves, and beside rivers. Intermittent fountains and long-flowing hot springs are rising with hot air, permeating the entire valley, and the hot air follows the sunlight. Flickering, thickening, brightening, darkening, the scene is spectacular. The exquisite riding skills of the herdsmen in the Cuopugou area are well-known in Kham District and enjoy the reputation of "the hometown of equestrianism". In June of the Tibetan calendar every year, in addition to holding horse races, Cuopu Temple also hosts large-scale mountain and lake sacrifices, which is very lively.Batang · 58.2km from downtown

It's worth a visit. After seeing so many high-altitude forests and snow-capped mountains in western Sichuan, the scenery here is quite breathtaking. After getting off the shuttle bus, it will probably take about an hour to walk around, stopping to take photos. There's a shuttle bus at the exit to take you back to the entrance. There's not much shade inside the scenic area, so be sure to wear sunscreen.

Hailuogou Scenic Area is mainly for viewing snow-capped mountains. Whether you can take good photos depends largely on the weather. Due to continuous rain, I waited for 4 days before entering the scenic area. The service was very good, after all, it is a 5A scenic area. The ticket prices for the shuttle bus and cable car are relatively high.

Light and shadow + snow-capped mountains + Tibetan villages + yak hot pot: capture the essence of Western Sichuan in one trip! 📍Xinduqiao is not a tourist attraction, but a small town in western Ganzi and Kangding, at the intersection of G318 and G248 highways, a must-stop station on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway. It's renowned: 📸A photographer's paradise, ✨A world of light and shadow. Beauty lies in its 10+ kilometer scenic corridor: golden poplars, streams, Tibetan villages, and snow-capped mountains, like a flowing oil painting. The essence of the trip: Treat it as Western Sichuan base camp, explore during the day, and return to the town at an altitude of approximately 3300 meters to sleep at night, without carrying any luggage. 🗓️When to go? 🍂Late September to early November: Golden season, mid-to-late October when the poplars turn golden, peak photography time. 🌱May-June: Grasslands turn green again, wildflowers bloom everywhere. ☀️July-August: Summer retreat, stargazing, mushroom picking, matsutake season, but be mindful of the weather during the rainy season. ❄️December-February: Like an ink painting, less crowded, tranquil golden sunrise over the mountains. 🎮Core Activities 📸Chasing the Light 🌅7:00-9:00: Photographing the crepuscular rays: 3km poplar forest in Waze Township or Qumogong. 🌇16:00-18:30: Photographing the warm light of Tibetan villages, backlit silhouettes at the Gongga viewing platform. 🛣️Ten-Mile Gallery: Approximately 15km of the most scenic section of G318/G248. Secret code: Photograph the poplar shadows in the early morning, photograph the golden sunrise over the mountains in the evening. 🏔️Mountain Watch Yuzixi: Altitude approximately 4200 meters, 360° views of Gongga, Yala, and Qingrao. Panoramic views in the afternoon, golden sunrise over the mountains in the evening, Milky Way at night. Strong winds, wear a thick coat! SUVs are recommended for gravel roads. Gongga Viewpoint: 5 km from town, offering panoramic views of snow-capped mountains, villages, and rivers with a telephoto lens. Gaersi Sacred Mountain: Within 1 hour, free and less crowded. 🗺️Northern Route Yuzixi → Gedilam → Tagong Grassland → Gunong Village → Moshi Park. Take photos of Yala Snow Mountain and Muya Golden Pagoda at Tagong, and circumambulate the pagoda; take photos of otherworldly landscapes at Moshi. 🗺️Southern Route Juli Temple Pass → Jiagenba → Lenggacuo. Jiagenba is a pristine Tibetan village with few tourists; the E'se flowers bloom in July. Lenggacuo offers views of Gongga Mountain's reflection; a clear day is ideal. 🍄Local Experience In July and August, go mushroom picking with a guide. Open blind boxes of porcini and oak mushrooms, and cook fresh mushroom soup back at your guesthouse. ⚠️Don't eat anything you don't recognize! 🐎 Horse riding in Tagong; 🏠 Ask permission before visiting a Tibetan village and drinking butter tea; 🛏️ Tibetan-style guesthouses have oxygen-filled underfloor heating, and snow-capped mountains visible from the windows. 🍲 Highland Flavors · 🍲 Yak meat hot pot: The soul of the meal! Warms the body and combats altitude sickness. Recommended at Axi Pottery and Black Barley Estate. · 🍵 Butter tea: Salty and fragrant, relieves altitude sickness; sweet tea is an alternative if you don't like it. · 🥛 Yak yogurt: Thick and tangy, even better with sugar. · 🫓 Barley cakes + Tibetan buns: Authentic breakfast. · 🍄 Wild mushroom soup: A must-try in summer and autumn; red pine mushrooms are harvested from July to September. Restaurants on the main street cost 30-70 RMB per person. Tip: Ask the owner of the guesthouse where you're staying; Tibetan food at guesthouses is often a pleasant surprise. 🚗Transportation + 🛏️Accommodation 🚗Driving: Chengdu → Kangding → Highway 318 (crossing Zheduo Mountain), approximately 5-6 hours; High-speed rail to Kangding, then share a car, approximately 35-50 RMB/person; Charter a car in Chengdu, approximately 800-1000 RMB/day. 🛏️Boutique Tibetan-style guesthouses with snow-capped mountain views from the window; Guesthouses in town, approximately 200-350 RMB/night. ⚠️Tips 🏔️Altitude 3300 meters: Move slowly, start on the first day...

From the moment you enter the village gate, your driving skills will be put to the test. It's all winding mountain roads with sharp S-shaped uphill turns, so drive carefully. There's a guesthouse parking lot at viewing platform number 5; it costs 10 yuan to enter and overlook the entire village. The view is quite good, so it's worth the visit.

We went on a rainy day, so there were fewer people. The snow-capped mountains were shrouded in fog. We entered the scenic area with the mindset that since we were already there, the air was very fresh. The scenery on a rainy day had a unique charm. After climbing for a while, it started raining heavily, and the kids didn't want to go any further, so we went back down. But then the rain stopped, the weather cleared up, and the snow-capped mountains appeared. It was absolutely amazing.

To be honest, if you're just watching the sunset, it's not necessary. I didn't see the stars at night because I was worried about the return trip. The road back is difficult to travel and there are traffic jams. The road is narrow and has gravel. It would be 10 o'clock by the time I got back to Xinduqiao.
