Lake Geneva

555 reviews
Lake Geneva is located on the border between Switzerland and France, nestled between the Alps in a crescent shape, with approx. 60% of its waters within Switzerland. The lake water is clear and blue, with distant snow-capped mountains reflected in it, forming a typical view of theAlpine region. Numerous views and landmarks are distributed along the lakeshore. Chillon Castle, built on a rock in the lake, has stood for nearly a thousand years and is one of Switzerland's famous medieval buildings, and Byron once wrote a famous long poem about it. The towns along the shore each have their own charm. Geneva blends modern urban vibes with historical heritage, and Montreux is known for its pleasant lakeside climate. Taking a boat cruise on the lake is a classic way to enjoy the panoramic view of Lake Geneva and the scenery on both shores. In summer, you can enjoy water activities such as sailing and kayaking on the lake, while in winter, you can head to the nearbyAlpine regionto ski.Saint-Prex · 40.2km from Geneva

Geneva Jet d'eau

4.7/5
297 reviews
The Geneva Jet d'eau stands on Lake Geneva, right next to the Jardin Anglais, and is one of Geneva's iconic landmarks. In the 1880s, Geneva's workshops relied on hydraulic power to drive their machinery. When they stopped working at night, the pressure in the pipe network needed to be released, and this water jet was originally designed as a pressure relief valve for this purpose. Because it was so popular with passersby, it was later moved to its current lakeside location and became a formal landmark. Its water jet can reach over 100m, resembling the spout of a giant whale. Hundreds of liters of lake water are propelled into the air at high speed, scattering into a sky full of white mist. Walking along the lakeside promenade, you can feel the cool mist on your face as it drifts with the wind. At night, if you catch it when it is illuminated, it is even more impressive.Geneva · 1.4km from downtown

Old Town of Geneva

80 reviews
Old Town of Geneva is nestled on the hillside on the south bank of the Rhône River. Its cobblestone streets form the framework, with churches, historic houses, and ancient fountains scattered throughout. The pace is much slower than elsewhere in the city, making it a perfect spot for a stroll to soak in the old-world atmosphere of Geneva. At its highest point stands the Cathedrale Saint-Pierre Geneve, founded in the 12th century and an important witness to the Reformation in Geneva. Climb the narrow stairs inside the tower to the belfry for panoramic views of the layered rooftops and the distant lake and mountains. The former residence and place of birth of the philosopher Rousseau is located along the main thoroughfare. Place du Bourg-de-Four, once a medieval market, is now surrounded by open-air cafes and small restaurants; it is a delightful spot to enjoy a coffee or sample local flavors after a walk. The winding alleys are home to galleries, antique shops, and bistros, where you might discover anything from old European paintings to vintage items from around the world—browsing for souvenirs while exploring is a delight. For history enthusiasts, the Maison Tavel is a must-visit; this ancient residence documents centuries of local life. Secret medieval passages still remain underground, adding a touch of intrigue to your stroll.Geneva · 536m from downtown

Jardin Anglais

Jardin Anglais is located on the left bank of Lake Geneva. Established in 1854, it is a lakeside park designed in the English landscape garden style, where lawns, large trees, and winding paths replace regular, symmetrical layouts. It can be accessed by walking along the lake after crossing the Mont Blanc Bridge. The park is lush and shaded, with expansive views of the lake. Standing by the shore, you can see the water jet of the Geneva Jet d'eau, making it a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy the view while walking around the lake. The park's signature view is L'Horloge Fleurie, built in 1955. The clock face is composed of thousands of seasonal flowers, and the patterns change with the seasons, so the color combinations you see will differ depending on when you visit. In addition to L'Horloge Fleurie, the park also features the bronze Four Seasons Fountain, the National Monument commemorating Geneva's accession to the Swiss Confederation, and memorial busts of painters and sculptors. The statues and tree shadows are interspersed throughout, making it perfect for a slow, leisurely stroll.Geneva · 973m from downtown

Broken Chair stands in the Place des Nations in Geneva, directly facing the main entrance of the United Nations Office at Geneva. It is a giant wooden sculpture designed by Swiss artist Daniel Berset. The entire chair is made of over 5 tons of fir wood and stands approx. 12 m tall, with one of its legs broken, while the other three legs firmly support the tall backrest. In 1997, Handicap International erected it here to promote the signing of the Mine Ban Treaty by various countries and to call for attention to the harm caused to civilians by landmines. It was originally planned to be displayed for only three months, but it was permanently retained due to strong public support, and it is now a highly recognizable landmark in the international district of Geneva.Geneva · 2.7km from downtown

The island is planted with poplar trees and has a bronze statue of Rousseau. It is suitable for enjoying the lake view, and there are pigeons gathering from time to time, and it is also a good place to feed the pigeons. This mini island was originally a natural reef on the Rhone River, and was later built into an artificial island as a military defense fortress, and was transformed into a factory for making gunpowder, a wharf, etc., until the statue of Rousseau was placed on the island. It was renamed Île Rousseau.Geneva · 935m from downtown

Lake Geneva, which shares the same name as the city, is very vast, with a sapphire-like color and sparkling in the sun. From Geneva Airport, you can take a train to Nyon, a small town on the shore of Lake Geneva. The hotel rooms there are large, and the lake view rooms also have terraces to enjoy the lake view. The breakfast is very rich and cost-effective. From the dock in Nyon, you can take a boat to the French flower town opposite and experience the fun of crossing two countries in half an hour. The price of the flower town is lower than that of Switzerland, and it is very pleasant to enjoy authentic French food there.

[Scenery] Surrounded by vast lakes and mountains, the scenery and views are unique whether it's sunny or rainy. [Fun] The weather was overcast and rainy that day, so bringing a brightly colored umbrella and jacket for photos was a real treat!

The old town still has its own flavor. The old streets, leisurely people, and busy business elites are all mixed together. There is no sense of disobedience in the same space. The feeling of Europe is really good. It is worth a visit.

Broken But Not BrokenIn a city where the skies are fair,Stands a symbol, a broken chair,Not of weakness, but a tale of might,A beacon for those in the fight.Across the lands, we venture far,Guided by this guiding star,Traveling roads both rough and fair,Finding strength in what's laid bare.Though the leg is shattered, split,It carries tales where warriors sit,Of journeys marked by hope and grace,Resilience found in every place.Exploring realms, both old and new,With hearts so strong, and spirits true,We face the storms, the winds, the air,With courage like that broken chair. For in our quests, we often find,The broken pieces heal the mind,And through the trials, we declare,We're broken, but we're not despaired. So let us travel, near and far,Underneath the same bright star,With stories woven, in the air,Of journeys bold, like that chair. And though we stumble, though we break,It's in the mending, paths we make,Through lands of peace, and ones in care,We rise anew, from the broken chair.

Experiencing some of the nuclear technology in person is still quite magical. Although I know nothing about it, it is nice to be able to take a close look at this high-tech that I usually only see on TV.

The Botanical Garden is very close to the Palais des Nations and close to Lake Geneva, so the scenery is very beautiful. It was summer when we went there, and we saw large areas of lotus and water lilies, which was very nice. The environment of the entire botanical garden is very good.

Geneva is the place where Protestantism emerged, so there are many Protestants here. The Reformation Monument is not on the hill of the old city, but at the foot of the hill. It is a long monument with great historical significance and worth seeing.
