The canal cuts through the hard rock of the isthmus, directly connecting the Saronic Gulf on the Aegean Sea side with the Gulf of Corinth on the Ionian Sea side, allowing ships to cross this narrow strip of land without having to sail around the Peloponnese peninsula. The canal is approx. 6 km long, the waterway is at sea level with no locks, showcasing the ingenuity of its construction and adding a breathtaking sight to the coastal landscape of Greece. Navagiois located on the northwest coast of Zakynthos, Greece, and is one of the iconic natural views on the Ionian Sea. The bay is surrounded on three sides by towering, steep cliffs and faces the vast open sea, forming a secluded coast that feels like a hidden paradise. The breathtaking scenery here is defined by the massive white limestone cliffs that surround the beach. The cliffs rise nearly vertically to a height of about 200m, displaying rugged and layered textures shaped by years of erosion from sea winds and waves. The stark white cliffs contrast sharply with the fine, light-colored sand in the bay, outlining a natural crescent-shaped coast. Standing in the bay and looking up, it feels as if you are in a massive open-air theater carved by nature, which is both spectacular and serene.Greece · Elation

Blue Caves Zakynthos

5.6
4.4/5
35 reviews
Blue Caves Zakynthosare a series of natural sea caves along the coastline and one of the island's iconic natural landscapes. Devoid of artificial embellishments, the site relies on its peculiar rock formations, crystal-clear water, and dreamy blue light to create a visual experience that feels like stepping into a fairy tale. What makes this place so fascinating is the ever-changing blue light within the caves. Sunlight enters through the cave openings near the water's surface, passes through the crystal-clear water, and reflects off the light-colored limestone seabed, creating a unique optical effect. Because water absorbs different wavelengths of light to varying degrees, red and orange light gradually fade, while blue light becomes more prominent, making the cave walls, water, and rocks appear as if they are bathed in layers of blue light. The interior landscape is equally distinctive. The light-colored rock walls, eroded by waves over the years, have formed irregular natural textures, while the arched ceilings and undulating rock surfaces cast soft shadows on the water.Elation · 92.3km from Lefkada

We stopped in Zakynthos on our drive to Athens. The narrow, man-made canal, with its towering, steep cliffs, is visually stunning. Standing on the bridge, the cliffs appear nearly 100 meters high – truly breathtaking. We arrived late, so we missed the daytime blue-green waters, but the warm, dusky lights illuminating the banks and the long, narrow canal stretching into the distance created a captivating atmosphere. We were still awestruck by the magnificent sight. No need to take a special detour; a short stop off the highway is perfect for sightseeing and definitely worth stopping for.

Did Korean dramas make this place popular? Fortunately, I went there before. However, because this is not a conventional beach with convenient transportation, it is basically reached by boat. Generally speaking, there are not many people. There is no commercial development here. There are no services such as drinks, meals and sunshades, so tourists will not stay for too long. For this reason, the sand and stones on the beach are all original, not the kind of very fine artificial sand. However, although it is not big and cannot provide additional services, it is still one of the most beautiful beaches, especially in sunny weather, it is so beautiful

Blue Grottoes, as the name suggests, refer to those blue caves that automatically emit blue light. However, I almost missed seeing them. The Greek sea is a beautiful, azure blue. However, you have to take a speedboat to find a deeper blue in this azure sea. There is such a place at the northernmost corner of Zakynthos Island. Turn into the cave and look down carefully through the transparent deck at the bottom of the boat. The bright blue is deeply imprinted in my mind...

This is a must-see event of the change of guards every morning at 8 am. This is really a spectacular galore of the past & that is most exciting to foreign visitors. It's normally packed with bus loads of tourists and foreigners alike, so be ready for crowds, all trying to capture the best photo and video angle of the 'guards' change. The guards in full ancient military costumes are really mesmerising!

The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is located on the southwestern slope of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. It was built in 161 AD by the Greek Herodes Atticus in memory of his Roman wife, Aspasia Annia Regilla. It was originally a steep-pitched theater with a three-story stone front wall and a wooden roof made of expensive Lebanese cedar. It was used as a venue for music concerts and could accommodate five thousand people. It remained intact until it was destroyed by Heruli in 267 AD and left in ruins. The auditorium and stage were restored in the 1950s using Pentagram marble.
