Tangshan Ridge, also known as Xie Jianzhang, is located in the north of Liancheng, stretching for several kilometers. On the top of the mountain stands a 118-meter-high radio and television transmission tower with a launch radius of 120 kilometers, covering Zhanjiang, Maoming and Yulin in Guangxi, Hepu and Haikou in Hainan Province. It is like a pearl inlaid on the girl's green skirt, shining with silver light from time to time; there is an ancient well known far and near at the southern foot of the mountain, called Xianrenjing.Lianjiang · 2.8km from downtown

Chikan Old Street

4.7/5
357 reviews
Chikan Old Street is formed by a network of over a dozen old streets and alleys, including Minzhu Road, Minzu Road, and Minquan Road. A market was established here as early as the Song Dynasty. After the port opened for trade during the Qing Dynasty, merchants from Fujian, Zhejiang, Chaozhou, and other regions arrived by sea, leading to a bustling trade hub filled with merchant ships. This history left behind street names like Fujian Street and Chaozhou Street, which are still in use today. After France leased Guangzhou Bay in the late 19th century, European architecture blended with Lingnan-style arcades, creating the continuous Nanyang-style architectural complex seen today. Arched porches, carved parapets, and stained-glass windows can be seen everywhere along the streets and alleys. The old street is packed with attractions: the clock tower-style Guangzhou Bay Commercial Club Meeting Site on Minzhu Road, the former site of the Chikan Port Wharf, the Former Residence of Xu Aizhou, as well as Jingyuan Garden, Shuixian Well, and more. Most of these spots are within walking distance of each other, and the web series "The Bad Kids" was also filmed in this area. Unlike many newly built imitation ancient streets, locals still live here today. You can see people sitting and cooling off under the arcade colonnades, find Zhanjiang snacks like boji chui (steamed rice cakes), shrimp cakes, and seafood noodles along the street, and discover small creative shops and exhibition halls scattered in the alleys. The vibrant local life and the old-world charm are layered together in the same scene. When visiting, you can start from the Commercial Club Meeting Site on Minzhu Road and walk through the old alleys toward the former site of the ancient wharf. Pay attention to the bluestone slabs under your feet and the lintels and window lattices of the old houses at the corners; many details are hidden in inconspicuous places. The Dachang Theater in the district hosts a "Weekend Theater," where Cantonese opera and Leiju opera performances often echo through the century-old arcades, adding more local charm to your trip to the old street.Zhanjiang · 38.1km from Lianjiang

The Museum of Guangxizhuang Autonomous Region

The Museum of Guangxizhuang Autonomous Region (hereinafter referred to as "Guangxi Museum"), established in 1934, is a provincial-level comprehensive museum of history and art, and one of China's first national first-class museums. It houses nearly 100,000 artifacts (sets), including 148 first-class cultural relics (sets), 1,974 second-class cultural relics (sets), and 3,865 third-class cultural relics (sets). The museum's collection is not only vast in quantity and diverse in categories, covering a wide range from the Paleolithic Age to modern times, but also features strong local ethnic characteristics. These artifacts hold significant historical, artistic, and scientific value, bearing witness to Guangxi's historical development and evolution across various periods. To promote the high-quality development of museums, with strong support from the Party Committee and Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Museum of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region underwent renovation and expansion starting in January 2019. The new museum building, covering approximately 42,000 square meters with 10,000 square meters of exhibition space, opened to the public in late November 2022. It features permanent exhibitions such as "Ancient Civilizations of Guangxi" and "Flames of the Southern Frontier: Guangxi's Modern Revolutionary History," along with thematic exhibitions including "Setting Sail from Hepu: Guangxi's Maritime Silk Road of the Han Dynasty," "A Kaleidoscope of Glazes: Ceramic Collections," and "Exquisite Craftsmanship: Treasures of Artistry." These exhibits comprehensively illustrate Guangxi's developmental path within China's diverse-yet-unified civilization framework. The main building consists of an exhibition hall featuring the stilt-style architecture of the Zhuang ethnic group and a cultural relics garden with strong ethnic characteristics, integrating classic nostalgic views, leisure cultural spaces, and modern technological design. The new museum's functional zoning is scientifically and rationally planned to fully meet the public cultural service needs of the museum. It adds four interactive areas: a historical theater, a children's archaeology exploration hall, a youth activity center, and a cultural creative shop. The museum has established a smart infrastructure based on middle platforms, big data, cloud computing, microservices, and knowledge graphs, enabling smart management functions such as remote reservation, AR audio guides during visits, and volunteer management. It also offers diverse and personalized services including live guides, audio guides, historical theater performances, archaeological interactive experiences, and ethnic cuisine. In the era of cultural and tourism integration, the newly revitalized Museum of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will integrate functions such as collection, research, exhibition, education, tourism, and international exchange. Rooted in its distinctive "museum-garden combination" and "dynamic-static complementarity" approach, it is dedicated to exploring Guangxi's historical and cultural essence, showcasing Guangxi's image, and telling Guangxi's stories well. By promoting the fusion of culture and tourism, the museum aims to make cultural relics "rotate," "smart," and "dynamic," striving to achieve creative transformation and innovative development of China's outstanding traditional culture. This effort contributes significantly to building a magnificent Guangxi in the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics.China · Nanning

Sanniang Bay

Sanniang Bay is located on the southern coast of Qinzhou, a tranquil and beautiful small fishing village. Its famous attraction is the Chinese white dolphins inhabiting the nearby waters, though spotting them requires some luck. Beyond dolphin watching, the simple fishing village life here is also appealing. Whether strolling on the beach, foraging at low tide, or enjoying the peaceful coastal life, this is a perfect leisure destination. Most travelers come from downtown Qinzhou for recreation, with two main options. One is a round-trip day visit to enjoy the beach and rocky shores, then take a speedboat to spot dolphins before returning, taking about half a day. The other option involves a longer stay at the attraction, where travelers can lodge in fishermen-run homestays, savor fresh seafood, relax on the beach, and experience the tranquil coastal fishing village life for a leisurely getaway. Spring and fall are good times to see dolphins, with a higher chance of spotting them. They can occasionally be seen on the beach, but the better way is to take a boat trip. The attraction offers speedboating or fishing boat tours for dolphin watching, though no method guarantees a sighting. After sailing a certain distance from the coast, you will reach the habitat of the Chinese white dolphin. Sometimes you can spot these beautiful dolphins leaping out of the water. Adult white dolphins are mostly white and pink, while calves have darker skin tones. They are extremely precious, and the photos taken of them are utterly adorable. Many hammocks are hung among the trees on the beach of Sanniang Bay, where travelers can relax and enjoy the serene coolness of the seaside. There are also several large rocks by the shore, such as Sanniang Rock and Sea Mother Rock, where you can climb the reefs and take photos with the sea. In addition, the seafood in the fishing village is very fresh and worth trying.China · Qinzhou

The Hai Nan museum serves as an important window for visitors from home and abroad to comprehensively understand Hainan's natural landscape, ethnic history, and cultural arts, attracting travelers from all directions. Zhanjiang is close to the sea, and mangroves can be seen on the seashore in many places. In traditional history, there are laws and regulations to protect mangroves. When the tide is high, these trees will be half submerged in the sea water, and when the tide is low, you can see birds foraging in the forest.

The exhibits are plentiful, concentrated on the second and third floors, but unfortunately, the museum doesn't limit visitor numbers, making it impossible to sit still and appreciate them at a leisurely pace. I suggest following the example of other provincial museums and changing the reservation system to two-hour time slots—limiting the number of visitors would significantly improve the experience. Also, the smell of recent renovations in some exhibition halls is quite strong.

San Niang Bay is a low-key yet stunning national AAAA-level scenic area in Guangxi, renowned as the "Hometown of the Chinese White Dolphin." Here, azure seas and golden sands abound, uniquely shaped rocks abound, and the original fishing village exudes charm, blending culture and nature seamlessly. The highlight is the opportunity to take a speedboat out to sea for a chance to encounter the rare Chinese white dolphins; with luck, you might even spot a dreamy pink one. The sand is fine, the water clear, and at low tide, you can go beachcombing and collect shells. The Tianya Stone and San Niang Stone offer incredibly photogenic views. The area is not heavily commercialized, and the seafood is fresh and affordable, making it ideal for leisure vacations, family trips, and dolphin watching—a hidden gem in the Beibu Gulf for secluded seaside experiences.
