St. Stephen's Cathedral
"St. Stephen's Cathedral is located in Stephansplatz in the center of Vienna's old town. It is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Vienna and one of the city's symbols. The church was first built in the 12th century as a Romanesque parish church. In the 14th century, under the leadership of Duke Rudolf IV, it underwent large-scale expansion and gradually took on the form of a Gothic cathedral. From the late 15th century, it became the cathedral of the Bishop of Vienna. A fire at the end of World War II destroyed the roof, which was later rebuilt after the war. Over the centuries, many weddings and funerals of the Habsburg dynasty were held here. Mozart was married in this church, and his funeral also took place here. Particularly striking is the church's colorful roof: hundreds of thousands of glazed tiles form diamond patterns, with the Habsburg double-headed eagle emblem embedded on the southern slope and the coats of arms of Vienna and Austria on the northern slope, shimmering brilliantly under the sunlight. The roof has an extremely steep pitch, allowing rainwater to wash it clean and preventing snow from accumulating. The Gothic main tower on the south side stands over 130 m tall and is affectionately called "Steffl" (Little Steffl) by the locals. It once housed the watchmen's quarters, where they kept watch for fires across the city and sounded the alarm bells. The north tower, halted due to construction difficulties, reaches only half the height of the main tower. Upon entering the church interior, the baroque high altar at the far end depicts the martyrdom of the patron saint Stephen; the Wiener Neustadt altar on the north side is a gothic double-winged altar, revealing gilded wood carvings of the Virgin Mary's life when opened on Sundays, with Emperor Frederick III's "A.E.I.O.U." motto still visible on its base. The stone pulpit in the central courtyard features reliefs of the four doctors of the church, adorned with carvings of a toad and lizard biting each other on its handrail, while a self-portrait of the sculptor peeking from a window hides beneath the pulpit steps; the crucifix playfully nicknamed "Jesus with a toothache" by Viennese locals is also worth pausing to admire. The catacombs house remains of over ten thousand individuals, including victims relocated after plagues and the sarcophagi/copper urns of dozens of Habsburg family members; beside the apostle choir stalls, Frederick III's red marble sarcophagus carved with over two hundred figures is regarded as a masterpiece of medieval stone sculpture. If your physical condition allows, you can climb the observation deck via the over 300 spiral stone steps of the south tower to overlook the continuous red-tiled roofs of Vienna's old town. The north tower has an elevator, allowing you to admire the approx. 20-ton "Pummerin" bell up close—one of the few giant bells in Austria and among the top-ranking surviving large bells in Europe. Charles Bridge
The Charles Bridge connects the old town and the small town of Prague. It is a landmark building in Prague, and it is also the oldest stone bridge in the city. It is often said that "you have come to Prague by crossing this bridge". Inscribed on the World Heritage List This is a Gothic stone bridge imitating the Roman Angel Bridge, and it is the only way for the coronation procession of the kings of the past dynasties. In 1992, the Charles Bridge was included in the World Heritage List. When it was first built, its name was "Stone Bridge". However, the reality is there is no "wishing well" mentioned in the lyrics, but the fairy-tale atmosphere here is enchanting enough. The Old Town Square was built approx. 900 years ago and is a historically renowned square in Prague, located between Wenceslas Square and Charles Bridge. It is also the heart of the city, bustling with crowds every summer. Public square highlights At the center of the square stands a statue of Jan Hus built in 1915, erected to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of the Charles University rector. The surrounding buildings showcase diverse architectural styles, ranging from Gothic masterpieces like the Church of Our Lady before Týn to Baroque gems such as St. Nicholas Church. A major attraction for visitors is the Prague astronomical clock on the Old Town Hall facade. On the hour, the clock chimes as windows above it open, revealing a procession of 12 apostle figures that bow to the crowd. If interested, you can also climb the tower of the old town hall to overlook the panoramic view of the old town. The roofs in the city are almost all painted red, while the slightly protruding spires of clock towers and churches are green. They are scattered yet orderly throughout the city, and the vivid colors give Prague a fairy-tale charm. Public square activity The old town square is not only a popular tourist destination but also frequently used for new year celebrations, holiday markets (Christmas and Easter) and rally activities. On ordinary days, there are many street performers in the square, and many local youth come here to take wedding photos. The square is surrounded by many cafes. If you're tired from exploring, you can order a coffee at an outdoor cafe, and don't miss the grilled sausages and ice cream. Marienplatz
Marienplatz is the central square of Munich's old town. Since the founding of Munich in 1158, it has been the city's main square. The old and new town halls stand on the north and east sides of the square respectively, making it the true "urban living room" of Munich. Below the square is an important hub where suburban trains and subways intersect. Most attractions in the old town are within walking distance from here, and many travelers choose Marienplatz as the starting point for their Munich visit. When FC Bayern Munich wins championships, the team traditionally waves to fans on the square from the town hall balcony. At the center of the square stands the Marian column erected in 1638, featuring a golden statue of the Virgin Mary standing on a crescent moon, holding a scepter in her right hand and cradling the infant Jesus in her left. The base of the column is adorned with bronze statuettes of angels subduing mythical beasts at each corner, now serving as the visual focal point of the square. To the north, the new town hall is a dark-spired Gothic Revival building. Its tower houses a glockenspiel that performs daily at 11 am and noon, with upper puppets reenacting a medieval jousting tournament and lower puppets performing the traditional Bavarian coopers' dance. The show concludes with a golden rooster crowing, and the square is often packed with travelers looking up in anticipation before the performance begins. Opposite the town hall entrance lies the Fischbrunnen, a bronze wishing fountain dating back to the Middle Ages. According to local tradition, people wash their wallets in its waters on Ash Wednesday to invite financial luck. To the east, the old town hall boasts elegant spires, harmonizing with the onion-domed Frauenkirche to the northwest. Dolomites
Dolomites are located in the southern foothills of the Alps and are renowned for their unique dolomite landscape. Votive Church
The Votive Church is located next to Vienna's Ringstrasse, facing the main building of the University of Vienna across the street. It is a neo-Gothic Catholic church, often referred to as the Church of Thanksgiving due to its origin as a votive offering. In 1853, Emperor Franz Joseph I survived an assassination attempt when the blade was deflected by his stiff collar during a walk near the old city walls. His brother, Archduke Maximilian, subsequently initiated a fundraising campaign across the empire to build this church in gratitude for the emperor's narrow escape. Construction took over twenty years, and the church was finally completed in 1879 for the silver wedding anniversary of the emperor and Empress Elisabeth. The facade follows a typical Gothic layout: two nearly 100 m high openwork spires stand symmetrically on either side, with a gallery of saints above the three pointed-arch doorways, while rose windows and flying buttresses outline its soaring silhouette. Due to its white stone construction and colorful patterned roof tiles, travelers often mistake it for St. Stephen's Cathedral, though the two buildings are separated by over seven centuries. Inside, notable features include the gilded canopy above the high altar, the hexagonal marble pulpit—bearing a relief portrait of architect Heinrich von Ferstel at its base—and the Renaissance-style sarcophagus of Count Niklas Salm, who defended Vienna during the 1529 Ottoman siege. The open green space in front of the church offers expansive views and is an ideal spot for photographing the twin spires, whose silhouettes stand out distinctly at dusk. Lake Hallstatt
Lake Hallstatt is located in the Salzkammergut region of Austria and is an Alpine lake carved by glaciers. It has a long, narrow surface and towering cliffs on both banks, resembling a fjord. The lake reaches a depth of 125m and has clear water; it is named after the town of Hallstatt on its shore. When the water is calm, the surface reflects the peaks of the Dachstein Mountains like a mirror. It is often shrouded in mist in the early morning, and the mountain forests are colorful in the fall. A traditional wooden flat-bottomed boat called a "Fuhr" is still preserved on the lake. It has been used to transport salt and goods on the lake since the 13th century, and this boating skill has now been included in the list of intangible cultural heritage. Every year on Corpus Christi, local residents hold a traditional procession on the lake. People decorate the flat-bottomed boats with flowers and set up altars on them. The bishop, choir, and people dressed in traditional costumes travel by boat on the lake to perform rituals, a unique folk custom that has continued for hundreds of years. In addition, the clear water of the lake also attracts diving enthusiasts. Sunken ancient trees and the wreckage of old salt transport ships are preserved underwater, and there is even an underwater altar. Tourists can take sightseeing cruises around the lake, and looking back at the town of Hallstatt from the lake is a classic postcard view. Mirabell Palace & Garden
Mirabell Palace & Garden is located on the north bank of the Salzach River in Salzburg. Built in 1606 by Archbishop Dietrich for his lover Salome and their children, the palace was later renamed "Mirabell" by his successor. Today, it serves as the office of Salzburg's municipal authorities. The iconic scene from the movie The Sound of Music, where Maria and the children sing "Do-Re-Mi," was filmed by the garden's steps and fountain. The palace suffered a fire in 1818, with the marble staircase leading to the garden and the marble hall being among the surviving parts. The staircase is adorned with cherubs sculpted by Baroque artist Donner, each holding clouds in playful and endearing poses. The marble hall once echoed with the piano melodies of the young Mozart and is now a popular wedding venue, also frequently used for concerts and other events. The garden features a typical Baroque layout: statues of Greek and Roman mythological figures flank the entrance, while the central Pegasus fountain is surrounded by sculptures symbolizing the four elements. The green hedge theater at the rear, enclosed by neatly trimmed hedges, dates back to the early 18th century. The dwarf garden boasts a group of whimsically exaggerated stone gnomes, said to be modeled after real court figures. Linz Central Square is located in Linz, Austria. It is also a landmark. The square is surrounded by Baroque-style buildings and many cafes. On the east side is the Town Hall. A marble monument stands in the center of the square. Sitting by the square and drinking a cup of coffee is a good choice.

Charles Bridge is one of the most famous landmarks in Prague and a wonderful place to visit. The historic stone bridge is full of beautiful statues and offers amazing views of the Vltava River, Prague Castle, and the city’s old buildings. I enjoyed walking across the bridge, watching local artists, musicians, and street performers, which created a lively atmosphere. The bridge is especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset when the light makes the scenery even more impressive. It is also a great place to take photos and enjoy the city’s history. Overall, Charles Bridge is a must-visit attraction that combines history, culture, and beautiful views, making it one of the highlights of any trip to Prague.

Prague's Old Town Square doesn't have a wishing well, but when the Astronomical Clock strikes the hour, the twelve apostles' figures emerge from the windows, always drawing a large crowd. The spires of the Church of Our Lady before Týn are a dark gray, like two flames. Pigeons perch on the Jan Hus statue in the center of the square year-round. Turning into the alleyways, you can buy cinnamon rolls, piping hot and sprinkled with powdered sugar. In the evening, as the lights come on, the sound of horse-drawn carriages crunching on the cobblestones is crisp and clear; sitting in an open-air seat watching people come and go is quite relaxing.

I visited Marienplatz in Munich and really enjoyed the lively atmosphere there. It is the main square of the city, surrounded by beautiful historic buildings and always full of energy. One memorable moment for me was hearing the town hall clock music play at the New Town Hall—it added a charming and unique touch to the whole experience, even though I did not stay for the full show. I also enjoyed walking around the square, watching people, and relaxing at a nearby café. It is a great place to feel the heart of Munich, with many attractions and shopping streets close by. Overall, Marienplatz is a must-visit spot that captures both the history and daily life of the city.

According to legend, Emperor Joseph was assassinated here and then miraculously recovered. In order to thank God for his protection, people built this Thanksgiving Church here. It is a magnificent church with a strong Gothic style.
