Located on the west bank of the Travo River, the Old Salt Warehouse is an important salt storage complex from the Hanseatic League era. The salt warehouses are built in the Renaissance and Baroque styles, with red brick walls, steep gables, and decorative pediments. Each building is 4-5 stories high, and the roof tiles gleam with the patina of age. The complex is about 100 meters long, and its asymmetrical facade reflects the practical aesthetics of 17th-18th century merchants. The reflections in the river have become a classic photo spot. In winter, snow covers the brick walls, while in summer, lush greenery provides shade, and moss in the brickwork adds a sense of history. Pedestrian walkways encircle both sides. The complex bears witness to Lübeck's transformation from a trading center to a cultural city. The nearby Hanseatic Museum showcases the history of the salt trade. Photographers often capture the light and shadow at dawn and dusk, while tourists stroll along the riverbank, touching the texture of the brick walls, inhaling the scent of river water and sea salt. The gates themselves look very interesting: they are unevenly slanted, so it is worth going around them to look at them from different angles. Inside is a city museum, with several interesting exhibits. Entrance is not cheap: 8 euros per person. Access regime: vaccination or a certificate of having had coronavirus + ID.
