The Daming Pagoda is located in the Liaozhongjing Ruins in Nancheng Village, Tianyi Town, Ningcheng County, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It was selected as one of the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units along with the Liaozhongjing Ruins. The Daming Pagoda is an octagonal 13-story solid brick tower with dense eaves. The tower is 80.22 meters high, the third tallest tower in the country, and the largest in volume. There is no information on the specific year when the Daming Pagoda was built, but according to the words written on a brick found on the tower during maintenance in 1982, it is believed that the Daming Pagoda should have been built between the 25th year of Tonghe in the Liao Dynasty and the 4th year of Shouchang. The first-floor eaves of the tower are nearly 11 meters above the ground. Each side is carved with a detailed and lifelike relief of a seated Buddha. Each Buddha has two ribs on the left and right, and there is a pair of flying celestials on the top. The left edge of each side is like a two-section tower. The upper section is engraved with the name of the Buddhist pagoda of the face, and the lower section is engraved with the Dharma name of the bodhisattva of the face. Due to hundreds of years of wind and rain, especially the magnitude 7 earthquake in the Yuan Dynasty and the Tangshan earthquake in 1976, the top of the tower tilted, and most of the wind bells and bronze mirrors fell. The tower may have been repaired many times in history, but there is no historical record. In order to protect this precious cultural relic building, the state invested in a comprehensive repair of the building in 1981. After three years of construction, the renovation not only restored the original appearance, but also replaced the original copper roof, and hung a number of new wind bells and bronze mirrors. After this renovation, the thousand-year-old style of the ancient tower has been completely renewed, and its original majestic appearance has been restored again.
