Pearl Harbor

4.8/5

Pearl Harbor is located on the southern coast of Oahu, Hawaii, west of downtown Honolulu. It is a natural deep-water harbor extending inland, surrounded by land on three sides with only the southern entrance facing the sea. On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Japanese naval air force launched a surprise attack on the U.S. Pacific Fleet stationed here. The battleship USS Arizona sank in less than ten minutes after being hit, with over a thousand officers and crew perishing aboard, marking America's full entry into World War II. Today, the harbor area has been designated as a historical attraction, comprising four venues: the USS Arizona Memorial, the Battleship Missouri Memorial, the submarine museum, and the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum. A full tour typically takes most of a day. Visits usually begin at the visitor center of the Pearl Harbor National Memorial: two exhibit halls display artifacts, photos, and footage depicting the ships, aircraft, and casualties on both sides before and after the attack. After watching the documentary, visitors take a shuttle boat to the white memorial spanning the sunken wreckage of the USS Arizona in the middle of the harbor. The bridge-shaped structure does not touch the ship's remains. Its 21 openings symbolize the 21-gun salute honoring the fallen. Through floor openings, visitors can view the rusted hull beneath the water, where oil droplets—known as "black tears"—still seep to the surface. The memorial hall at the far end bears the names of the thousand-plus crew members who went down with the ship, and the U.S. flag on the sunken mast is raised daily. This is a resting place for sailors, and visitors are expected to maintain solemn silence throughout the tour. While the USS Arizona witnessed the beginning of the Pacific War, the Battleship Missouri on Ford Island marked its end—Japan signed its surrender on its deck on September 2, 1945. Visitors can explore the deck, cabins, and bridge, with views of the white memorial across the water. The Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, housed in the original hangars attacked that day, still bears visible bullet holes on its walls. The island also features memorials for the USS Oklahoma and USS Utah. Access to Ford Island requires a shuttle transfer from the visitor center. The Bowfin submarine, docked nearby, conducted multiple wartime patrols; visitors can step inside to experience life in a submariner's quarters. Practical tip: Security is strict, and regular backpacks are not allowed, so travel light.Honolulu · 13.5km from Oahu

We had a great time at the ranch. Our guide was amazing! Arrived just in time for our tour, be sure to go to the ticket counter before lining up for your timed tour. Our guide explained well the ins and outs of the ranch, not just the movies shot there but the history and work being done beyond the big screen. Highly recommended.

As a highly recommended attraction for military fans and history lovers, the Missouri itself is a witness to the surrender of Japan and the end of World War II, and its historical significance is worth a visit. The maintenance of the warship itself can be seen to be very careful, and there are many open areas. It is highly recommended to visit. Military fans can visit the Aviation Museum and the Submarine Museum. There is a large hangar behind the Aviation Museum. Don't forget to visit it. The Arizona Memorial requires a ferry, and you must check in on the spot, but it is very close to the Missouri, which is a bit unnecessary.

Japan killed 2,403 Americans during the Pearl Harbor attack and 35,000,000 Chinese during the world war 2. Seeing the USS Arizona Memorial and crying Chinese baby lost parents is hard. The site kept and explained the history well. I highly recommend everyone who like learning about history and love peace to visit. I feel this is the most important site to visit in Honolulu. 珍珠港

My legs ached from climbing Diamond Head; the steps wound and twisted, and I had to rest several times. At the top, the wind was so strong I could barely stand. Oahu stretched out below, the sea a dazzling blue. An old lady was holding a selfie stick, her hair whipping across her face in the wind. The radar station, a dilapidated tin building, was badly rusted; someone was leaning against the wall, catching their breath. On the way down, my knees were weak. I encountered an elderly couple still climbing, panting, saying they were almost there. Back in the parking lot, I filled half a bottle with water; the sun was scorching the bike seat.

Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is one of Hawaii’s most spectacular natural attractions and a paradise for snorkeling enthusiasts. Formed within a volcanic crater, the bay is known for its crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and incredible variety of marine life. Swimming alongside colorful tropical fish in such a pristine environment is an unforgettable experience. The surrounding cliffs provide breathtaking views of the bay and the Pacific Ocean, making it a perfect spot for photography as well. Whether you are an experienced snorkeler or a first-time visitor, Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve offers a unique opportunity to experience Hawaii’s natural beauty up close.

Fun for Families & Photos, But Skippable for Solo Travelers 🍍 (6/10)The Dole Plantation is one of those places you hear about constantly when visiting Oʻahu, so I decided to check it out for myself. Here’s my honest take.Yes, the pineapple maze is huge—it even holds a world record—and riding the little train through the plantation to see how pineapples grow is pleasant enough. The grounds are well-kept, and you can definitely take some cute, colorful photos among the tropical plants. For kids or teenagers, I can see this being a fun couple of hours. Families seem to genuinely enjoy it.But as a solo traveler? I found very little that truly engaged me. The maze felt more tiring than thrilling without a group to laugh with. The train ride is short and a bit too slow-paced for an adult traveling alone. Even the famous Dole Whip, while tasty, isn't worth making a special trip for.Everything feels designed for groups, photo ops, or keeping young children entertained. There's no deep cultural or historical immersion, no real adventure, and not much for a solo adult to sink their teeth into.

We dived 107 feet into the seabed. The weather was fine and the underwater was very clear. There were broken ships and broken planes underwater, which were suitable for various tropical fish to survive. There were a lot of fish, and we also saw 2 small manta rays. There were also 4 deep divers who greeted us underwater, which was nice.

🏖Beautiful beach check-in spot ● Naxianghai Diamond Beach: The sand here is as fine as powder, shining in the sun, and the sea water is clear and has a charming gradient color🌊. In the evening, the afterglow of the sunset sprinkles on the beach, and the whole picture is as beautiful as a movie scene. It is a blockbuster with just a casual shot. Strolling along the beach, blowing the sea breeze, and feeling the good years, it is simply too comfortable. ● Jinshiwan Art Park: The seaweed houses in the park are unique and are a typical representative of Jiaodong traditional architecture. They are scattered on the seaside, set off by the sea, blue sky, and grass, full of artistic atmosphere🎨. Here, you can slow down, appreciate the unique architectural style, and take literary and fresh photos from all angles. ● Xiaoshi Island: It is a treasure check-in spot in Weihai! During the day, the sea water is sparkling, suitable for walking along the beach and riding the waves🌊. In the evening, this is a great place to watch the sunset at sea. The sun slowly sets, dyeing the sky orange-red, and the entire sea surface is shrouded in afterglow, which is breathtakingly beautiful. It is also a good place to go to the sea. When the tide is low, you can bring small tools to experience the fun of catching crabs and digging clams. 🏘A good place for humanities ● Liugong Island: As an important witness to China's modern history, Liugong Island carries rich historical and cultural connotations. There is the Sino-Japanese War Museum on the island, which displays a large number of precious historical relics and materials, vividly showing that magnificent history. When you board Liugong Island, it seems that you can travel through time and space, feel the golden weapons and iron horses of the year, and have a deeper understanding and thinking of history💪. ● Weihai Huaxia City: Here, natural landscapes and cultural landscapes are cleverly combined. There is the magnificent first archway in China, the simple and elegant Xia Garden, and the wonderful landscape performance. Here, you can enjoy the beautiful garden scenery, feel the strong cultural atmosphere, watch the shocking performances, and appreciate the charm of Weihai in all aspects🎊. 🍱Special food is not to be missed ● Weihai barbecue: Weihai's barbecue is unique, featuring seafood barbecue. Fresh squid, oysters, scallops, etc., are grilled on charcoal fire, with golden and crispy skin, tender and juicy inside, and sprinkled with special seasonings, the fragrance is overflowing, making people salivate🍗. 🎈Tips for playing ● Transportation: The transportation in Weihai is relatively convenient, and buses can reach most attractions. If you want to travel more freely, renting a car and driving yourself is also a good choice, and you can also enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way🚗. ● Accommodation options: If you like lively, you can choose to live in the city; if you want to get close to the sea, the seaside homestay is a good choice, and you can see the beautiful sea view as soon as you open your eyes in the morning🏨. ● Seasonal recommendation: Summer (June-August) is the peak tourist season in Weihai. The weather is warm and suitable for swimming and water sports. Autumn (September-November) has clear skies and plump seafood. You can taste a variety of fresh seafood, which is also a good time to travel🌞.

The Hohlum Lucia Botanical Garden is very large and transportation is relatively inconvenient. It is best to drive here. If you take a bus, you will need to walk a long mountain road, but the scenery is very beautiful and it is worth the trip.
