Crowned as "The King of the Five Sacred Mountains", Mount Tai has been one of China's most famous mountain peaks since ancient times. A large and impressive rock mass covering 25,000 ha and rising to 1,545 m above the surrounding plateau, Mount Taishan is considered one of the most beautiful scenic spots in China and was an important cradle of oriental East Asian culture since the earliest times. The mountain was an important object of the cult worship of mountains even before 219 BCE, when the Qin Emperor paid tribute to the mountain to inform the gods of his success in unifying all of China. Watching the sunrise and catching the spectacular sea of clouds are common activities that visitors engage in. You are also encouraged to explore the ancient sites, engravings, and religious temples to understand the role of Mount Tai in China's long history.Tai'an · 56.7km from Pingyin

Hongfan Pond, also known as "Dragon Pond", is located in Hongfan Pond Town, southwest of Pingyin County. It is a famous spring pond in the west of Jinan. The name of the pond comes from the "Book of History·Hongfan". According to the "Reconstruction of Hongfan Pond Stele" during the Daoguang period, in the Jin Dynasty, "the villagers prayed for rain and built a dragon temple in the north of the pond, so it was also called Dragon Pond." On the outer wall on the south side of the spring pond, the two characters "Dragon Pond" are engraved in running script. Under the characters is a bluestone dragon head protruding from the wall of the pond. The spring water overflows from the dragon head's mouth, but it does not appear to be gushing. The water surface is clear and stable like a mirror, and it flows all year round. Yang Shiyuan of the Qing Dynasty once wrote a couplet: "Always reflect the shadow of the pond on the world, and do not rise and fall with the spring and autumn." As the spring water is buoyant, coins thrown into the water will not sink for a long time, and the "Hongfan floating gold" has become one of the famous local landscapes. The water quality of Hongfan Pond is excellent and rich in minerals.Pingyin · 25.3km from downtown

Baotu Spring is located in the bustling downtown area of Jinan, bordered by Qianfo Mountain to the south, Daming Lake attraction to the north, and connected to Quancheng Square to the east. This spring-themed garden is renowned as the "No. 1 spring under heaven" and ranks first among Jinan's "72 famous springs," with a history spanning over 2,000 years. It has also frequently appeared in literary works, most notably in Lao She's "Baotu Spring." Visitors come here to witness the spectacular sight of the three gushing springs. The main spring serves as the park's centerpiece, with its crystal-clear water gushing in three separate jets day and night, reaching several feet high during peak flow. The spring is surrounded by large stone masonry and guardrails, allowing visitors to overlook the spectacular sight of the three jets from the railings. A dark green stone tablet inscribed with "No. 1 spring" stands nearby, bearing the calligraphy of Licheng's Wang Zhonglin from the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty. In the vicinity, over thirty other famous springs are scattered, including Jinxian Spring, Shuyu Spring, Xibo Spring, Liuxu Spring, Huanghua Spring, Dukang Spring, and Bailong Spring. July and August, when local rainfall is abundant, make for the best season to observe these springs. In the height of summer, visitors can get up close with the springs in the park. Some springs have no railings around them, with stone paths in the pools where water flows over. Visitors can step into the pools to interact with the water, walking on the stone paths where their feet will get wet from the cool spring water. Besides water interaction, there are free drinking springs available for visitors by the pools. On the east side of the springs stands the Wangheting teahouse, specially catering to visitors. This springFragrant tea brewed with water at a moderate price. In addition to the springs, another highlight of the park is its magnificent south gate, adorned with grandeur and elegance. The horizontal plaque above the gate, inscribed with "Baotu Spring" in golden characters on a blue background, bears the imperial handwriting of Emperor Qianlong from the Qing Dynasty. It is acclaimed as the "first gate" of Chinese classical gardens. In previous years, seasonal water stoppages frequently occurred here, but through recent conservation efforts, normal water levels have been largely restored. Additionally, the attraction regularly hosts various cultural events. Every year on the first day of the lunar new year, a lantern festival is held for 20 days. In late September, there's a spring water culture festival lasting about 10 days, featuring folk activities, calligraphy and painting exhibitions, and traditional opera performances for visitors to enjoy. From late October to late November, a chrysanthemum exhibition takes place where the golden fall scenery of gushing springs and blooming chrysanthemums creates a spectacular sight well worth seeing. In addition, the attraction has launched a cruise route. After visiting the attraction, interested visitors can board the cruise at the dock, passing through the west gate bridge in Jinan's old town, the east gate of Wulongtan Park, and entering Wulongtan Lock, Jinan's first passenger ship lock in history, where they can experience a drop of over 2 m. Sitting on the east side of the boat, visitors can also see the relief of "Jinan's eight scenic views". The riverbanks along the route are lined with aquatic plants, and the water is crystal clear. The cruise finally passes through Yanbo Bridge and enters the Daming Lake attraction.Jinan · 64.9km from Pingyin

Cuiping Mountain Attraction is located 12.5 kilometers southwest of Pingyin County, Jinan City. It is a key scenic spot in our county, with beautiful natural scenery and profound cultural heritage. Since ancient times, it has been famous for its "strange temples, strange stones, strange trees and strange waters". Wonderful temple: The Baofeng Temple on the hillside was built in the Tang Dynasty and was originally named Baoning Temple. The temple is magnificent and has Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism as one. The pagoda of the founder, Zen Master Cijing, is also located here. There is also a national cultural relic protection unit in the Baofeng Temple on the top of the mountain - the Tang Dynasty Duofo Pagoda, which is more than 1,300 years old. Strange Stones: There is a "Water Mountain with Greenery" on the mountain, which is rated as the first of the eight ancient scenic spots in Pingyin. Two huge rocks are stacked on top of each other, and between the rocks stands a pine tree with lush branches and leaves, so it is named "Greenery". There is also a group of naturally formed canine-tooth-shaped stones on the mountain, which look like a group of turtles, implying that every visitor will be lucky, safe and long-lived, so it is named "Group of Turtles Paying Homage to Birthday". Strange Trees: There are many century-old cypress trees on the mountain, with luxuriant branches and leaves of various shapes, growing between boulders and on cliffs. There is also a thousand-year-old tree called "Elm Thousand Layers", known as "the best elm in the world", which has a history of more than a thousand years according to research. Wonderful water: There are many springs on the mountain, and there is a saying that "there is a spring in every crack in the rock", so the locals call it "Water Mountain". The more famous ones are "Youben Spring" and "Shimen Golden Spring". Among them, "Shimen Golden Spring" was originally named "Luoyang Spring". Water flows out from several cracks in the rocks and continues for four seasons. It is now the main water source for monks. Cuiping Mountain is the birthplace of Pingyin Rose. More than 1,300 years ago, the Tang Dynasty monk Cijing planted and cultivated roses near the Shimen Jinquan in Cuiping Mountain, offering flowers to Buddha and using Buddha to cultivate flowers. Later, roses spread Souvenir Cuiping Mountain, and Pingyin Rose came from this. Nowadays, in order to provide better services to tourists, Cuiping Mountain Tourist Attraction has renovated and upgraded its infrastructure, functional facilities (tourist service center, toilets, parking lots, etc.) and scenic spots in accordance with the national A-level Attraction assessment standards.Pingyin · 10.8km from downtown

Millennium City Park

Millennium City Park is located by the Longting Lake in Kaifeng, a large-scale historical and cultural theme park that faithfully recreates the Northern Song Dynasty's capital based on the famous painting "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" by artist Zhang Zeduan, following the original layout at a 1:1 scale. The park is divided into two sections by the Shuangting Bridge: the southern area recreates the bustling urban life of Bianjing, with taverns, teahouses, pawnshops, and artisan workshops lining the streets, where peddlers with shoulder poles and shouting shop assistants move about; while the northern area features imperial gardens, with lakeside halls and quadrangular courtyards standing by the water. Staff and vendors throughout the park wear Song-style attire, accompanied by ancient music and the rhythmic sounds of bells and drums, creating the illusion of "stepping into a painting and traveling back a thousand years in a single day." The architecture here offers visually striking highlights: the Rainbow Bridge spanning the Bian River replicates the famous bridge from ancient paintings, arching like a rainbow—watching grain barges pass beneath recreates the painting's ambiance. Fuyun Pavilion towers above all other structures with its crimson facade and golden-roofed eaves, offering panoramic garden views. The reconstructed Shangshan Gate mirrors Kaifeng's Northern Song dynasty city gates, standing majestic with resplendent paintings as the garden's most imposing structure. Waterside pavilions like Shuixin Xie, Double Pavilion Bridge, and Nine Dragons Bridge dot the emerald waters in picturesque harmony. The daytime highlight is the scattered live performances throughout the park: "Judge Bao inspecting the Bian River grain transport" unfolds on the water by Rainbow Bridge, "Squire Wang's daughter seeking a husband" brings the embroidered ball tossing matchmaking to the streets, and "Yue Fei unhorsing Prince Xiao Liang" stirs up dust with galloping hooves in the drill ground. Folk performances like cockfighting, stilt walking, cuju (ancient football), and pan drumming are interspersed throughout. Families with children can visit Fun Garden and Great Song Games to try archery, dart throwing, rope climbing, and hoop diving—experiencing every Song dynasty game from a thousand years ago—or dress in period costumes at Square Courtyard to take mock imperial exams. Street-side workshops showcase folk crafts like Bian embroidery, Zhuxian Town woodblock prints, official kiln porcelain, and dough figurines, where visitors can watch artisans at work. The park takes on a different face after nightfall: red lanterns light up one after another, and the streets are ablaze with lights, making it seem like a completely different place from daytime. The large-scale water show "Northern Song Dynasty: Splendid Dreams of Dongjing" is performed on Jinglong Lake. The entire show is connected by eight classic Song Dynasty poems and a scroll of "Along the River During the Qingming Festival," transporting the audience back to Dongjing of the Northern Song Dynasty a thousand years ago. The performance lasts approx. 70 minutes, and many travelers specifically reserve their itinerary for the evening to wait for this show. After the performance, you might as well climb the Shangshan Gate tower to overlook the park scenery and the night view of Kaifeng under the lights. Dining in the park is also convenient: the snack street and night market around the Dongjing food area gather Kaifeng snacks like soup dumplings and mutton pancake, perfect for eating while strolling; for a proper sit-down meal, head to Sunyang Restaurant, a recreation of the "main shop" depicted in paintings, and try traditional Henan dishes such as soup dumplings and carp with noodles.China · Kaifeng

The Best Spring In The World is located in downtown Jinan, featuring "one river (the moat), one lake (Daming Lake), three springs (the Baotu Spring, Heihu Spring, and Wulongtan spring clusters), and four parks (Baotu Spring Park, Huancheng Park, Wulongtan Park, and Daming Lake Park)." The attraction centers around Baotu Spring, renowned as the "No. 1 Spring Under Heaven." Its waters flow into rivers and converge into lakes, harmoniously blending with the ancient Mingfu City. To the north lies Wulongtan (Five Dragon Pool), while to the east stretches Jinan's Huancheng Park (home to the Black Tiger Spring and other springs), both highly celebrated in Jinan. These springs boast exceptional water quality. Daming Lake, a natural lake formed by the convergence of numerous springs, receives water from its southern shore. When full, the water flows out through the Northern Water Gate, built during the Song Dynasty on the lake's north shore. The lakebed consists of impermeable igneous rock, preventing flooding during heavy rains or drought. Often described as "a confluence of springs merging to embrace the Jiluo region," it's hailed as the "Pearl of the Spring City." Similarly, the moat formed by spring waters encircles the ancient city like a jade belt, offering scenic cruise rides along its course. The attraction boasts stunning natural scenery and rich cultural heritage, featuring not only springs, rivers, and lakes but also numerous historical landmarks. Highlights include the Chaoran Tower dating back to the Yuan Dynasty and the Luoyuan Hall originally built during the Northern Wei Dynasty (now a Ming-era structure). Historical sites include the Luoshang Terrace, the former residence site of Qin Qiong, and the Beishui Gate. Notable former residences include the Nanfeng Ancestral Hall, Jiaxuan Ancestral Hall, Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall and Yi'an Old Residence, Tiegong Ancestral Hall, and Lao She Memorial Hall. Red tourism sites include the Jinan Massacre Memorial and the former site of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.Jinan · 66.9km from Pingyin

Quanfu Xiaojiangnan Attraction is located in the Qiluquan Township - Zhifang Village, Hongfanchi Town, Pingyin County, Jinan, Shandong Province. The village has a history of more than 400 years. This is the location of the imperial forest granted by Yu Shenxing, the imperial teacher of three generations of the Ming Dynasty, and also the location of Yu's villa. Most of his poems and essays describing the landscape of Hongfan in his later years were created here, such as "Peach blossoms have fallen in Wuling Creek, green grass and willows are slender on the banks, the owner of the cave is not here now, the green mountains are like a painting and birds are crying in the sky" was created in the villa. A blessed land of springs, like a dream in the south of the Yangtze River Hongfanchi Town is known as the Qilu Spring Town. It is spiritual because of the confluence of springs, and also because the springs gather blessings from all directions, it has outstanding people and rich products. It is indeed a place of happiness and longevity. The springs are beautiful, the bamboo rafts in the creek, the green bamboos, the Jiangnan folk songs, the Hui-style buildings, the flowing water under the small bridges, the clouds and mist, all of which outline a Jiangnan landscape ink painting, which is like a dream, and is rare in the north. Tomb of Yulinge Lao: There is a unique forest of white pine trees in Shandong Province, which is rare in scale and ranks first in the country in terms of concentrated reserves. It is called "Yulin" because it is the tomb of Yu Shenxing, the teacher of three emperors of the Ming Dynasty (Shenzong, Guangzong, and Xizong), the Grand Councillor of the Ming Dynasty, the Prince's Guardian, the Minister of Rites, and the Grand Secretary of the Dongge. Yulin is a mausoleum built in Hongfan by Emperor Wanli in 1607 to repay his teacher's kindness. It covers an area of 64 mu. According to historical records of the Ming Dynasty, Yulin was once magnificent, with a pair of tall stone lions outside the main gate, two Huabiao in the forest, and stone tigers, stone sheep, stone horses, and Weng Zhong facing each other on both sides of the corridor; there are also coffin pavilions, 10 stone tablets recording political achievements, articles, and personal qualities, and two memorial archways. Yu Shenxing was 63 years old when he died, and Wanli gave him 63 white pine trees to mourn for him. Unfortunately, after experiencing historical trends such as "Destroy the Four Olds", only the gate and other buildings and 40 white pine trees remain in Yu Lin. The other stone tablets and stone carvings were cut into pieces to build a "Cultural Revolution Bridge". In the Attraction, the four epitaphs of Yu Shenxing and his wife have been cleverly preserved and are kept in the Wenchang Pavilion in the Hongfanchi Attraction. Bamboo Forest Trail:The bamboo forest trail is located in the bamboo forest area in the west of the Attraction. Walking through the dense bamboo forest by the Langxi River and stepping onto the wooden fish stone path is like entering a dream. Sometimes the bamboo forest is dense and shrouded in mist; sometimes you pass through the bamboo forest and suddenly appear on the water; sometimes you encounter scenic spots and are constantly surprised. Walking through it, it is unpredictable and is a key project of Fuquan Fu Xiaojiangnan. Bamboo Forest and Sea of Bliss:Passing through the quiet bamboo forest, you will occasionally see a gourd-shaped spring pond. It is said that the God of Fortune came here to take spring water, so it is named Fuhai. There is a giant Fushi stone at the junction of the bamboo forest, which is a must-see for tourists to take photos and check in. Bamboo Forest Dream:The Bamboo Sea Dreamland is located in the bamboo forest. Standing in the bamboo sea, on the quiet bamboo forest path, with mist filling the air, it is like a fairyland. You can experience the dreamy beauty in the mist. Huludao:Huludao is a gourd-shaped island in the Langxi River, surrounded by clear water and ever-blooming peach blossoms. According to legend, Lü Dongbin once came to Nantian Temple to practice Taoism. On the last day, he said goodbye to his Taoist friends and got drunk. His wine gourd rolled down Yuncui Mountain and fell into the Langxi River, turning into Huludao. The Drinks in the gourd flowed out and formed the "Fuquan", which is the clear spring at the mouth of Huludao. Tourists take the water from the Fuquan and feel relaxed and happy. Because of the water of the Fuquan, there are flowers all year round on the island, and the air is like a fairy. Like a dream in Jiangnan:Standing at the Wangfu Bridge, looking eastward, you can see Nian Mountain, Langxi River, the Hui-style buildings built along the river, and the bamboo spring fairy in the water, which outlines a dreamlike dynamic ink painting of the Jiangnan water town. It is like a miniature of Jiangnan and is the best photo-taking spot in the whole park. Bamboo Spring Fairy:Gathering in an elegant room overlooking the river, enjoying the delicious food of Quanfu, I suddenly heard a Jiangnan tune outside the window, and saw the fairy of bamboo and spring in the song. Following the song, I found a beautiful woman in the river, seemingly in the middle of the water. Such feelings and such feelings, how can I linger on. Clear Spring Stone Flow:It is inspired by Wang Wei's "Autumn Night in the Mountain" in the Tang Dynasty. "After the rain in the empty mountain, the weather turns to autumn late. The bright moon shines among the pines, and the clear spring flows over the rocks. The bamboos are rustling with the return of the washerwomen, and the lotus leaves are swaying with the fishing boats. Let the spring flowers rest as they please, and the prince can stay as he pleases." The bluestone is a hundred meters square, and the spring water flows over the rocks, with waves cascading down, washing away your worries.Pingyin · 23.6km from downtown

The foremost of the Five Sacred Mountains is definitely worth a visit! It's worth mentioning that water is only a bit more expensive near the summit; 4 bottles for 10 yuan is very cheap along the way. The cable car down the mountain costs 100 yuan one way, which isn't cheap, but it's worth it for the sake of your knees and the different scenery.

The Dong'e Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Tourism Area mainly revolves around donkey-hide gelatin (Ejiao). The Dong'e Ejiao City is an antique-style architectural complex where visitors can observe the Ejiao production process; the integration of industrial tourism and traditional culture is quite natural. The China Ejiao Museum houses historical artifacts, offering insights into the evolution of Ejiao, while the Tribute Ejiao Hall showcases traditional production techniques and offers interactive experiences. The area isn't too crowded, making it easy to explore. Overall, it's worth taking your time and is suitable for those interested in traditional Chinese medicine.

The last time I visited Baotu Spring was 20 years ago. After so long, a friend finally gave me the opportunity to come again. The scenery was still beautiful even on a sunny day. The park wasn't too crowded during the last part of the National Day holiday, and it was easy to walk around in front of Baotu Spring.

My dears, I went to Cuiping Mountain in Jinan! This mountain is really great, the air is so fresh as if it has been washed. Climbing all the way up, you can see many ancient monuments, and feel the full sense of history. The view at the top of the mountain is super wide, and you can see far away. There are few food and drinks on the mountain, so you have to bring enough by yourself, but overall it is worth it!

Daming Lake holds the story of Emperor Qianlong and Xia Yuhe's "epic, tragic love" 😂 "Your Majesty, do you still remember Xia Yuhe by Daming Lake?"—When Emperor Qianlong toured the south, he encountered Xia Yuhe playing the zither in the Yuhe Hall, fell in love at first sight, wrote a poem and presented her with a fan, vowing that "a true friend is hard to find." However, after more than a decade apart, Yuhe fell ill with longing and died with her zither in her arms 😢 However, there is no historical record of this person; it's purely a romantic fiction by Qiong Yao. The lake shimmers, lotus flowers fill the pond, and the saying "lotuses on all four sides, willows on three" is truly fitting. The illuminated Chaoran Tower is even more breathtaking.

The area is serene and verdant, offering a tranquil and refreshing escape. The boardwalks and bamboo groves add a touch of wild charm. It's perfect for a weekend getaway, avoiding the annoyance of crowds and the overwhelming presence of trendy advertising signs. It has the ambiance of a 2000s-era scenic area seamlessly integrated with nature, with its stone paths and wooden bridges. However, there are virtually no recreational facilities. Aside from a few swings and plum blossom stakes—things I loved playing on as a child—the mini-train and boats are closed due to the lack of visitors. The commercial street on the other side is also likely closed, leaving only a few rows of white-walled, black-tiled Hui-style buildings standing silently. The only two businesses operating in the entire area are a restaurant (with mediocre food) and a small shop at the entrance. On a side note, this area seems more suitable for guesthouses than trendy streets; it's a shame those rows of empty houses are so empty. Our family arrived at 10 am and left around 3 pm, spending about four hours there, excluding meals. In short, it's worth a short visit within an hour of parking, but not worth making a special trip for.

It was really fun! Even though it was outside the National Day holiday, it was still quite crowded. The NPC interactions were great. The iron flower display is a must-see. The music and parade at night were especially exciting. It's a place I would definitely fly back to.
